History

Established in 1988.

smithARCHITECTS, inc. is a full service architectural firm based in Flagstaff, AZ. Since the late 1980’s we have been providing Northern Arizona with outstanding architectural services. The firm was originally founded as Josh Barclay and Associates, Ltd. In 2001, Ryan Smith joined the team and helped create the partnership of Barclay-​Smith Architects, Inc. Josh Barclay retired in 2005 and Ryan has forged ahead and established the name smithARCHITECTS, inc. Our work represents our commitment to providing the professional service, creative design solutions, and sustainable architecture that our clients expect and deserve.

Business Owner

Ryan is principal and president of smithARCHITECTS, inc., Ryan’s strengths include design, technical expertise, project management, client collaboration, and construction administration. His professional experience in Arizona and Seattle, WA, includes all types of public and private work projects that focus on the commercial, retail, institutional, educational, governmental, and multi-​family/​hospitality, and private residential architectural services. Ryan is a certified LEED Accredited Professional and strives to incorporate sustainable design elements through fundamentally sound design principles, into each and every project that passes through the doors of smithARCHITECTS. As principal of his own firm, he is responsible for complete oversight of client projects from initial programming and design to the final construction completion and occupancy of the project.
