In-Shape: Fairfield Dover

I have been taking a Friday morning aquatic class. There is a substitute trainer, named Lorrence Dungca, that has made the morning workout extraordinarily fun. A great workout is always the goal, but to also have fun and laugh at the same time makes it truly worth getting up early to go to the gym. I wish he taught morning aquatics on a regular basis.

I have been a member for over 2 years and have seen a decline in cleanliness and overall care of the equipment. I pay a lot of money to come here to have to deal with constant wet floors in the bathroom and out of order machines. The floor is always dirty. Dust balls wth hair all over. it is sad because this is the closest to my home so I come for the Convenience not the enjoyment of the club. I was a long time member of Cal Fit and only joined this club because there isn’t one out here if Fairfield. For the money we pay this place should be in tip top shape!!!

I’ve been here a few times. It always seems very clean and not over crowded. There’s a good set of machines available.
There’s an in door and out door pool along with a tennis court. It’s a pretty nice facility as far as gyms go.

This is a great facility, friendly, and clean. It has a TRX which is a plus. A great add would be water bottle filling spigots on the drinking fountains.
But my favorite part of Dover is my trainer Danielle Smith. She is the perfect balance of tough, but encouraging. She is open, understanding, and listens to what I want to achieve and how I want to get there. She knows her trade well, but doesn’t presume to know how I’m feeling better than I do. She is happy, energetic, and so fun to be around that most times you forget that you are working out! She’ll drive you hard, but not kill you so that you can still function in days after your training.

Cara Olmedo’s 8:30 am indoor cycling class? Unsafe/​contraindications during class: hands in position 3 when seated, hovering, insufficient recovery times, and encouragement that her class is in fact truly «safe».

I Love this Fitness club InShape Dover Fairfield. Employees are super nice. The facility is Posh & Clean.

I came in today for my free training session. I came in with a friend and we were greeted by a high energy, smiling face. Kevin greeted both my friend and I with a firm hand shake and bubbly voice. Kevin brought us to the back where he asked us questions and we filled out paper work.
Kevin was honest and blunt, two things that I highly appreciate. We signed up for training almost immediately. Kevin held our best interest and answered any and all questions promptly and in detail.
I am excited about working on the new me with all of this encouragement!

Thanks to Amber, I was able to resolve a terrible dispute. Although I still don’t plan to ever workout at any In-​Shape Facility, I’m thankful for her customer service!

In-​Shape has done what I thought was impossible… it got me to actually like going to the gym! That’s how great this gym is. The facility has all kinds of training equipment, machines, and other amenities that make it stand out among other local gyms, aka 24hr Fitness.
Lets start off with actually joining the gym. I used their 7 day free pass to test the place out. After the 7 days I went and talked with an employee about joining. I was apprehensive at first because I know that gyms will often pressure people into joining, but the young man I worked with wasn’t pushy at all. I ended up going with the family plan which is a great deal.
What initially drew me to this gym was the indoor pool. If you go at night, there is literally almost nobody there. One complaint I do have, is that the water clarity is not great. At times it’s a bit murky. More recently I’ve gotten into using the machines. There are so many machines to choose from. They’ve got a whole row of treadmills. Another row of stationary bikes. A full row of ellipticals and many many more machines that I have yet to try out. One great thing about the machines they have, is that they are fairly new models. Makes me feel a bit better because I’m not walking on some old rickety treadmill.
The gym in never insanely busy, granted I do go mostly at night. There is always plenty of machines available. Every staff member has been super friendly. Another great thing about this gym is that I don’t feel super judged. I’m not in the best shape, but I have never felt any negativity from staff members or other gym members. Everyone is just very respectful of people of all shapes and sizes.
It’s taken me awhile to write this review because I was unsure if I would stick with In-​Shape, but now that I’ve been a member for several months I can safely say that this is the best gym I’ve ever been to. I highly recommend them to anyone who is interested in improving their fitness.

Like this one more so than than the Suisun one which is why we switched… decent enough staff and a nice facility. They offer pretty much every piece of equipment known to man so there’s no excuse to not get a good workout in. There’s and indoor and outdoor pool & tennis courts. They also have a day care center for small children so again, no reason to not come work out. My main grip is some customers who do not clean/​wipe down the equipment after they’ve sweat and put all their grime onto the equipment, just nasty. I have noticed that they aren’t great with scheduled appointments. I’ve either been overlooked, not booked or someone is running late, it’s happened more than 3 times. Also there’s the occasional one or two male customers who do more staring at the women working out than they themselves actually workout, why spend money to come look others… I’ll never understand that, lol.

I was here for a week on a guest pass and was happy with the facilities. Regardless of how busy the gym gets, there’s always enough cardio equipment without having to wait for a machine. Behind the cardio equipment they have a circuit training area with a huge wall timer that allows you to do the course on your own. They offer many classes that always seem to be packed and when the studio doesn’t have class, you’re able to use the room and choose workout videos to do if that’s what you prefer. They also have two weight rooms: one with machine weights and one with free weights. Unfortunately the weight rooms are not as expansive as the cardio room so you might find yourself waiting for something depending on the time of day.
They have two pools and the outdoor pool has a jacuzzi to relax. I love going mid-​morning when it’s pretty empty. They have a good number of tennis courts but nothing special about those. They also offer spin classes and childcare both of which I didn’t use.
What a like about this gym is that they have a diverse population here: whether you’re already in shape or trying to get your health on track, there is no judgment here. I see so many people during their personal training sessions and it seems that the trainers are doing a great job working with clients’ strengths and weaknesses and the clients have always seemed satisfied with the sessions.
Whenever I’m in town, I would choose to use this gym over any others in the area.

** This review is more-​so for my personal training experience
I’ve been going to this gym for about 6 months now (Great gym — everyone is friendly and the gym is clean and not overcrowded). I decided the only way I’m going to hold myself accountable and get in the shape I’ve wanted to get in is to sign up with a personal trainer and get some solid guidance and motivation. I’m not overweight or anything but my main goal was to build muscle, strength, size and get shredded. I’ve tried doing this on my own by reading books, magazines, going to different gyms and trying different supplements and never got the results I was looking for.
I must say, I couldn’t have been paired up with a better trainer than Aj Elahi. Let me start off by saying, the dude is in great shape himself, you’d be surprised how many personal trainers I’ve seen in worse shape than me which has always baffled me. I’ve been training with him for about 4 months now, twice a week and have had the best results I’ve ever had. He’s motivational, he’ll push you to do your best each session (no slacking), and he knows what workout exercises to do with the best techniques to get the maximum results. He’s also a nutritionist so if you’ve had a hard time gaining muscle and size he will guide you in the right direction on what to eat, how much to eat, and what supplements to take.
I’m already getting compliments on the increase in size and definition from friends and family. I personally feel healthier and better and I’ve seen a huge jump in my strength and this is just the tip of the iceberg!
It’s worth the investment, ask for Aj to be your trainer if you want to get in shape and get great results fast.

Great place to workout they have everything covered which is amazing for such a small sized gym. They have a indoor and outdoor pools with gaquzozi. They have a classroom for all the fitness classes one could want, also have sauna/​steam rooms. They have one free weight room which could be a lot bigger but due to space it’s really not possible. They also have a circuit training area The cardio area is where this place shines in my opinion

Love this location! The group class instructors are best in class and the gym is smaller than Alamo if you want a more boutique feel! At this location my fave instructors are Cara Olmedo, Lauren Bodie, Becky Mazzuca and Kay Meyers. In no particular order! Love you all!

Getting myself healthy has been a struggle. Joining In-​Shape was the first step, monitoring my nutrition, and establishing myself with a trainer! AJ Elahi, has made me accountable every step of the way! He knows when to push, me, as well as when to back off! Excellent trainer, who works with YOU, as well as brings out the best in YOU!

Great gym! Alex at the front counter is awesome! He remembers always remembers who you are. Some of the moving around staff members (a couple of trainers & cleaning staff, though you don’t really see them clean anything) do stand around but make a «B» line to a woman whom they tend to follow around the gym thus why there’s only 4 stars. However this is a select few most of the staff is very curious including the GM which is a really great guy.

Today was my first time at this gym. The customer service is very good and friendly and the staff is very knowledgable. Their weight room looked a bit small, but I was impressed with the amount of cardio equipment that they have especially for the size. They also have outdoor tennis courts which I’m excited to explore. I also want to check out their classes, but I’m pretty sure that I can’t make any of the ones that I would like go to. Specifically, I was hoping that there would be more Zumba classes in the evenings on Sunday or Monday.
Since I mainly swam today, this review is focused on the Pools and Jacuzzi. First, I checked out the indoor pool. The room itself is very warm, but the watered seemed to be at a good temperature. I opted not to swim in this pool because it was a hot day and the stuffy room was too much. I spent most of my time in the outdoor pool. It was very refreshing and I liked how there were plenty of cabanas and pool chairs around. The only damper on the experience was that the pool was not so clean. It was pretty murky and even with my new googles, visibility was really poor. As I was making strokes, my hand would hit something and I’d realize that it was a clump of somebody’s hair. I know it couldn’t have been mine since I was wearing a full swim cap. That kind of grossed me out and I hope that it’s just a one time occurrence. After the pool I hit the jacuzzi and really enjoyed myself. They have plenty of jets and it didn’t feel crowded when there were eight people in there. They back jets aren’t strong enough for a serious back relief, but they do feel nice. The calf jets, on the other hand, are pretty intense and felt really good on my legs after my swim workout.
As I try more options at this gym, I will update my review (and when there is a change in the pool cleanliness situation). For now, I’m just excited to get in shape!

When I was living in LA, I was a member of 24-​Hour Fitness for a little while. It was okay, no real complaints, and I liked that it was open late so I could go when it was less crowded. Is it true that some locations aren’t open 24 hours? Isn’t that… okay whatever. Anyway, so I was thinking about joining the local 24-​Hr in Fairfield.
I looked up the prices and they seemed a little hefty. Monthly, it seemed very reasonable (especially if you sign up when they’re having a special deal), but there’s an initiation fee plus the first month’s fee due at sign-​up which really adds up, especially if you’re on a tight budget. I decided to check out the competition.
At first, I wasn’t sure about In-​Shape. I didn’t like that they don’t have prices listed on their website, and that you have to sign up in person. I was worried that I’d have a hard time saying no if the price wasn’t right, or if I didn’t like the facility. As I mentioned, I’m on a strict budget and can’t afford to pay a penny over what my gym-​reimbursement plan through work will allow.
I stopped by on a weekday afternoon and was able to speak with an employee who showed me around the place. When it came time to talk money, he explained everything very thoroughly and made sure the membership fee was something I could afford. No pressure or anything. Luckily it fit within my budget and I went ahead and signed up. There’s also an option (for only a few dollars more per month) for access to additional In-​Shape locations in the area, and I definitely think that’s something I might consider bumping up to in the future if I can afford it. But for now, access to just the Dover location is fine by me. It’s in a nice, safe part of town and I feel comfortable being there at night.
In addition to the main facility, they have a daycare/​play room, tennis courts, both an indoor and outdoor pool plus a jacuzzi. I haven’t taken advantage of any of these yet, but it’s great to know they’re there.
It’s a really nice set-​up. It’s a large place with a spinning room, another big room where classes take place, a weight room, and then two areas for strength-​training and cardio machines.
The employees are always really friendly and helpful. If you want a towel (small or large), you can ask a front desk employee for one on your way in. The restroom/​locker room (the women’s, at least) is always very clean. If you want to use a locker for the day, make sure you bring your own lock. They have a half dozen private showers and soap is provided.
I’ve been here on various days/​times and it never seems to get insanely busy. Even when it seems like there are a good amount of people there, there always seems to be plenty of machines available.
I believe they sell some drinks and snacks, but I suggest bringing your stuff, especially water/​sports drinks. The drinking fountain water is pretty nasty.
My only complaint is that their «large» towels aren’t that large. I’m not a humungous person (5’6″, 150) yet their large towels do not fully wrap around my body. Maybe that’s encouragement to keep going to the gym? Or maybe I just got a shrunken towel last time I went. I don’t know. Anyway, you may want to bring your own.
Overall, I highly recommend In-​Shape Dover. New, clean, safe, fun place to work out.

I have been a member of In Shape for about six months now and I love it. Every time I walk in I am welcomed with a friendly greeting. The staff is great and has always been very helpful. The equipment is of good quality and the gym as a whole is very clean and well kept. As with any gym, there are certain times where it gets a bit crowded but there has never been a time where I haven’t been able to do the activity that I want. The locker rooms are always clean as well and have plenty of lockers and showers. I have yet to use the pool, sauna, or steam room but I like knowing I have access to those areas.
I have two young sons and bring them with me on a regular basis. The kids area is really wonderful and I love the staff in there. They always make my kids feel welcome and are great with my 2 year old who doesn’t like leaving my side. There is an indoor play structure, toys, blocks, a Wii and more. This is a wonderful option for anyone with kids!

I’ve belonged to this gym prior to the InShape take over and I’ve been really impressed with the updates! Not only is the facility super nice, the staff is amazing. The manager Billy is super friendly and helpful. Anytime I have a question or concern he’s always attentive and prompt! He’s definitely seems to genuinely care about the members and staff.
My kids love spending time in the kids club. The workers are attentive to my children– they play and interact with them. It feels more like a welcoming environment than dumping my kids off in a zoo (which has been my experience with other gyms). It’s really nice being able to work out and know they’re in a safe, fun environment!
The tennis courts could use a little love (there are some wonky cracks-​nothing bad) but the players at this club and great. It’s a nice relaxed environment to play and socialize and the tennis pro Sarah is awesome!
I really enjoy spending time at this facility. It’s been great getting to know the amazing staff and other gym regulars! I couldn’t imagine ever going anywhere else!
