Love my Kenwood VR-405! Paid a great price for a nice receiver. I went back recently, a few months after my purchase, seeking out a remote for my model — as I had no luck with universal remotes. I called ahead and they had more than a dozen on the counter ready for me to test. I found one that worked and they didn’t request any additional money for it. Great folks.

I could not be more impressed! The service is excellent. The price I paid for a beautiful receiver today was great. Please keep this great local business in mind for quality electronics. Mr and Mrs Thompson are as sweet as people get.

My girlfriend and I needed a turntable, reciever, and some speakers. Content to listen to mp3s and CD mixes; I didn’t know a lot about the world I was stepping into, and was afraid that the people working wherever I ended up going would judge me and make me feel embarrassed for not being on their level. Well, let me tell ya, this shop is ran by people who knew exactly what I didn’t know I needed/wanted, and they sold it to me for a price less than I expected to pay. Super friendly and knowledgeable, and not afraid to share that knowledge with you. The man who helped me seemed excited that we were just getting into a hobby he knew so much about, and he really wanted to get me the best sound he could for the best deal, and even took apart the reciever on the spot, after we’d already paid, to fix the power switch which crackled an unnoticeable amount immediately when first pressed(not something I would have even noticed). I can’t say enough good about this place. Whether you’re just getting into some semblance of a vinyl collection, like myself, or you know your stuff and need a great set of vintage speakers; this is definitely the place to check out first.

Amazing, amazing store. I was in town on business and stopped by to look at their vintage gear. The folks who run the place clearly know and love the equipment they sell, and I never once felt like they were trying to sell me on anything. Just standing around chatting about vintage audio. I ended up with some new gear — just couldn’t help myself. When I unfortunately discovered an issue with one of the pieces a few days later, the folks at Thompson’s handled the return with impeccable care and service. It’s a shame that there aren’t more business run like this these days — by good people who truly care about their product, and prove it by the way they serve the customer. Highly recommended!

Oh wow, someone actually typed the words«Horrible Customer care people» without irony, about not being able to get his TV fixed at a store specializing in vintage audio gear. Literally there is no such thing as the worst person on Unilocal. Thompson’s is an incredible family owned electronics store dating back to 1936 run by three friendly siblings who know an incredible amount about their awesome collection of reasonably priced old stereo equipment, and will take as much time as you need to figure out what you need. The more you know about this stuff the more you will love this place.

we have been doing business with Thompsons for years. They are low key, not fancy and just great. We have gotten very high quality stuff there. I have found them to always be really nice and super helpful. Not gushy or suck-up sales person phoney, just nice people with good stuff doing their job. When we want to upgrade or replace anything stereo related we go here first. I just wish they were open on weekends.

I’ve thrown out too many cheap dvd players from big box stores making me question why I keep buying them. I just want a simple DVD player that doesn’t skip or do funny things with the eject tray. There has to be a better way. I decided to check out Thompson’s Electronics because they have used equipment and a sign that says they do repairs. Cool, if I buy it and it breaks they’ll fix it right? Not really, they are no more likely to fix a cheap dvd player than Target or Walmart. The will fix higher end models that have some real value but that’s not the market I’m in. My wife and peruse the wares and are not impressed at first. The selection was diverse but not deep, mostly stereo and receiver equipment but some home entertainment. There was little or no salesmanship as the two folks alternating at the counter seemed genuinely disinterested in our presence, whatever, soft sell, hands off approach is fine by me. I quizzed the woman about the differences in the 3 dvd players we saw that fit our general requirements and she called in the other guy. He was nice but there wasn’t much to say about the models no guarantees one was better than another, so we went with a Panasonic for 70 bucks. I feel like I got a good deal and it has performed very well for over a year now. The place is across from a St. Vincent DePaul and I can’t help but compare Thompson’s décor and merchandise to a nicer more focused version of Goodwill or the like. The guy at least ran a test disc in the machine to make sure everything was running smooth, and they do claim to be able to work on machines so there has to be some knowledge base.
