I’ve had my 27 year old hardwood floors sanded and refinished 3 times, each time with different companies, and this last time was with Gil at Eden Flooring. The floors have never looked better and my expectations were exceeded. His price was very competitive (I did get 3 bids). Gil and his workers are professional, pleasant, friendly, prompt, conscience and do excellent work. They even came back on Friday evening to put on another coat, when they’d already finished for the day. Gil is an honest and trustworthy guy and good business person. I highly recommend Eden Flooring & Construction in Encino!

I interviewed 3 contractors to install new hardwood floor. They were price about the same but I had the best rapport with Gil. He was professional and took his time to really look at my floors. I was really worried about how they were going to look near this rock wall and fireplace hearth but they did a great job. Gil always returned my phone calls or text timely. The installers worked quickly and professionally and payed attention to detail. They moved furniture with no damage. Thank you Gil!

This company was hired as a sub-​contractor during my kitchen remodel. We had ceramic tile floors in the kitchen before, so it all had to be ripped out down to the sub-​floor. Had I read some of the reviews for this company here and on Angie’s list, I would never have allowed them to do my floors.
They installed new oak flooring strips in my kitchen and tied it into the existing wood floors. They sanded it all down and at a quick glance, it looked pretty good. They didn’t try very hard to match my prior stain exactly, and in fact the final product is not exactly what I wanted… it’s lighter.
I have a security camera in the area and was able to watch them apply the stain. The guys wore street shoes and it appears they were tracking in and out from outside which is covered with construction dirt and sawdust. Once the stain was on and the first coat of polyeurathane, I could immediately see problems. There was dirt and hair stuck in the varnish and I could see swirl marks in the wood. They also got stain all over my brick porch and cement pool deck. Someone from the crew also stole a brand new can of DW40 from inside my garage (I found my garage door open several times while they were here… they did not have my permission to go in there. I have no idea if anything else is gone.
My contractor requested that I wait and look at it all after the 2^nd coat of poly was put on. They did that yesterday (and we had to live with the horrendous fumes for 3 days). Today I went in and looked at the job and overall if you just glance at it, it looks pretty good. But if you look closely there are lots of problems. I’m going to upload some photos.
There are exposed nail heads, holes in the wood that wasn’t filled, swirl marks from the sanding, uneven stain areas, ripples in the wood, dirt in the varnish, etc.
Clearly my contractor just hired the cheapest company he could get so that he could make more money on my contract with him.
It’s never a good idea to go for the cheapest company when redoing your floors. You get what you pay for.
**UPDATE**
Gil shows up a week later, acting like he’s not seen my review, and asks, «What’s going on?» like he has no clue there’s even a problem. I point out all the mistakes (which you can see in my photos) and he has an excuse for all of them. When I showed him all the swirl marks he says, «These things happen!» When I tell him he used cheap polyurethane, he acts like he doesn’t even know that there are grades of poly. He says, «Are you just going to tell me what’s wrong, or tell me what you want fixed?» He’s not even owning up to there being problems, so how am I supposed to tell him what needs fixing?! Why should **I** have to tell him anyway?
On top of this, my contractor tells me that he heard the whole conversation because Gil called him and had me on speakerphone the whole time… without my permission… which is illegal wiretapping. He tells me to call my contractor as he leaves and never even mentions that he has him on his cellphone!

On 6÷11÷2011 they were hired to sand and stain the floors of our 1938 Long Beach home that we just bought. They came out and were quick with a start date and quote, $ 3,500. The project manager stated «this place will look like a million bucks.» Our house was 1,077 sqft and part of the work was to remove laminate flooring in the kitchen and match the hardwood flooring/​tie it in to the existing floor. The first day many workers showed up and got straight to work taking off baseboards and sanding floors. They they made a color to our liking.
Everything was going great until they laid out all the stain and we had to do a final approval. When we looked at the entryways there were huge swirl marks on the floor. The stain made it even more noticeable. It was way to noticeable for it to not need fixing. The only solution was that they had to redo all the floors by sanding it all down and restaining. We simply didn’t have time for this. We just moved in and we were in between our new house and paying rent in a apartment where the lease was up in 2 days.
We would have to just get them redone later down the road. So we settled on just paying the deposit which was ½ the quote, so about $ 1,600 and we went our separate ways.
Now 2 ½ years later the floor boards that were tied into the kitchen are separating and creating gaps. It was poorly done. Some of the wood floor is chipping.
PROS:
–Nice and polite people to work with
–Fast with labor and quote
–Can match floor boards sizes even if you have an old house
CONS:
–Perhaps fast labor caused the poor work quality
–The 1 minimum coat of protector on floor is no where near enough
–Flooring that was tied into kitchen coming apart and breaking after 2 ½ years
–Price is a little high, we found someone else that does it way cheaper and has high quality work

Gil and his team from Eden Flooring just finished up a four day installation of engineered flooring at our house in Valencia and I couldn’t be happier! Gil is extremely knowledgeable and honest. He took the time to walk us through the process, answer questions, and helped us make the right choices so that we are thrilled with the final product.
It’s clear that Gil and his crew are professional and takes tremendous pride in their work. His crew of installers took the time to insure lots of small details were done correctly and with precision. And he even did some extra work that I wasn’t charged for.
Eden Flooring is the real deal and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to family or friends. I found them through advertisement and then saw their high ratings on Unilocal,and once again Unilocal didn’t let me down!

Eden flooring has been an amazing contractor to work with. Gil has the customers interest in mind. He has done work at my home, my new home and I have recommended him to friends and they also have used eden flooring. Gil takes time to make sure everything is perfect. An example of this was we had hardwood put on the stairs and after they sealed them we forgot to block the stairs while they dried. Our cat went up and down them and put paw prints all over them. Although it was kind of cute (like writing in wet cement) it wasn’t perfect. A quick call to Gil at Eden flooring and he said no problem, we will come back and make it perfect. It wasn’t Eden floorings fault, but Gil wanted us completely satisfied. His prices are amazing for the great work and professionalism you get. We love eden flooring and highly recommend them.

Gil came by to address my concerns and it will be taken care of by the end of the week. It did take awhile for it to be addressed but at least it will be.

Found Eden Flooring on Unilocal and called to get an estimate to refinish our hardwood floors. Gil himself went to our place and promised to complete the work in 3 days at a reasonable price. A previous place had already given an estimate but could not promise to remove a heavily scratched area of our living room. My husband and I decided to put our trust in Gil, and we could not be happier with the results. Our 50+ year old floors look like new, and the surface scratches were completely removed. Gil is also a pleasure to work with, and his crew of workers were professional and prompt. Thanks Eden Flooring!

I just used Gil and his crew to do all the floors in my house. They did it in 3 days for exactly what he estimated. I just bought a really old house and the floors were a little trashed — now you can’t even tell how terrible they were — they are so amazing now. I will definitely use him again, and I thought the price was very reasonable.

job was horribly done. we had them install hardwood floors 3 months ago and now, there are gaps throughout the floor, there is dirt and even a piece of glass stuck under the polyurethane. the floor is uneven in many spots throughout the house. Gil and Ruben always told us don’t worry and always seemed unphased when my husband and I tried to tell them what we wanted. I was so upset I didn’t bother calling them back to fix anything because all they’re going to tell me is not to worry.

I highly recommend Eden Flooring! Gil (and his team) were an absolute pleasure to work with. His estimate was accurate and our floors look great! I will use him again should we need future work.

Gil is just a pleasure to deal with. He is understanding and professional, but so is his team! We had to move 100% out of our house to refinish and repair the hardwood floors in the entire place. This was overwhelming for me and my family but Gil and his team made it bearable and the quality of work is top-​notch. He makes me feel confident that the condition of the floors will last many many years, so all the stress was worth it.
May I also mention he is fair in pricing and takes pride in his workmanship — a rarity these days!

Okay… so we had a pipe burst and we didn’t know it until we started seeing water damage from below our oak hardwood floors. We had to take out quite a bit of the floor, repair the pipe and put it all back together again. Got a few quotes… went to water damage specialists and they were high and I didn’t really trust what I saw. They definitely weren’t flooring experts. Went to a trusted friend who is a contractor and he recommended Eden Flooring. The Eden guys — Gil in particular — just looked and sounded like they knew what the hell they were doing. They were licensed and I trusted my friend, even though the price I was being quoted was much better than anything else I had heard. That’s usually a red flag for me. But… I went with my gut on this one and it definitely paid off! These guys weren’t always on time, but as far as contractors go, not bad really. When they were here, they worked like crazy fast, knew exactly what they were doing, knew just what my wife and I wanted, and refinished 1200 square feet of flooring in a few days for right around $ 2 a square foot. And water damage??? What water damage? No trace, no sign, like it had never happened. Mold tested clean and visually stunning. Really… this was amazing work. If you’re in a similar boat as we were, don’t hesitate. These guys are the real deal and they don’t gouge you. Very very fair and very very good! 5 stars from this happy camper!

Whenever you’re embarking on a home remodeling project and you t’aint doin’ the work yourself, get used to living on someone else’s schedule for the entire length of the project. It seems that no matter how hard you try to balance the dynamic of keeping contractors and sub-​contractors in line and adhering to your work and extracurricular scheduling constraints, these unruly folks say one thing and do another.
Prior to having Gil Bittan of Eden Flooring and his ragtag bunch of mugwort brigands decend upon my humble abode for a refinish and repair of my 45 yr old original hardwood floors, I was firmly convinced that there was an inverse correlation between the skill of the work team and the absolute bullshit scenarios they subject you to, the ultimate in ‘say-​one-​thing-​and-​do-​another yeah, yeah, i got it, i heard what you’re saying, but then you’re gonna have to remind me 20 million times or I’ll completely disobey your instructions, even though i’ve already smirked and smiled and told you I understood you and now get outta the way and let me do my job — and by the way, yes I am fucking with you, I enjoy watching you go crazy with exasperation and frustration as we do whatever the fuck we please, whenever we please, so that you may be graced with our divine workmanship whenever we decide it shall be ordained that the work is DONE…‘
Basically, that the more bullshit they shovelin’, the more doomed the final workmanship will be. Sound familiar?
INCREDIBLY Gil and his marauder team of insane workers proved me wrong – yes, they affirmed the most counterintuitive impossibilities–
That you can spin crazy bullshit stories and exhibit a cavalier swagger disguised in some kinda faux-​accommodating earnestness, yet pull off amazing craftsmanship and lightning fast output in the few frenetic sessions when they actually show up to do the work!
Ok, perhaps this is not the most conventional or ringing endorsement, but my point is, if you can find a reliable, actions speak louder than words contractor, then I proclaim this economic meltdown shall suddenly part like Moses parted the Red Sea – ummm…yeah.
HERE’S WHY YOU NEED TO CALL GIL AND HIS EDEN FLOORING TEAM:
1) CONFIDENCE – Gil, from the first day he arrives at your place to ‘survey’ the job, will proclaim with supreme confidence that he can re-​finish and/​or repair even the most heinously decrepit floors you’ve ever seen, gaps and all, that all the other contractors have looked at and told you, ‘umm, buddy, you need to lay down all new flooring.’ All the while, he’ll be on hands and knees, with his palms sliding methodically across your trashed hardwood, wide-​grinned and wide-​eyed like a crazed Doctor Frankenstein, sputtering, ‘Yes, Bee-​yooty-​ful, Bee-​yoo-​tyfull, these floors will be gorgeous, I tell you, when we’ve finished with them… ha ha!‘
You will deem him crazy and a shyster, but then he’ll pull out a laminated flip book with before and afters (the ‘befores’ look like gory CSI scenes of complete squalor and carnage), and then he’ll pull out his digicam and show you in full brilliant megapixel glory the shiny gleaming masterpieces, of which yours, he says, shall be the next.
2) VALUE – The price is freakin’ amazing. Seriously.
You are going to be grateful that you saved that ‘they don’t make it like they used to’ classic hardwood rather than take the easy way out and lay down some kinda flavor of the month über trendo-​riffic brazilian walnut or exotic kilimanjaro-​sumatran hybrid flash-​blended composite hoobajoobawood (ok, so i made that last one up, ha!) :OP
3) RESULTS–
After taking a HUGE leap of faith and talking about how I, a fellow Heeb, was going to entrust an Israeli, which would a MAJOR coup for me, with this job, and that I wouldn’t be cheated – hmmm…that was a huge pole vault for me. And I juuuuuust cleared the bar.
Lucky I did. Because the end result was wicked fuggin’ pissah (ok, only someone who knows the horrendous infamous Boston accent will get that one)…Gil’s team blended the original Red Oak with newly laid down and repaired red oak seamlessly. Holy shyte the befores and afters made me shudder in disbelief.
Whenever anyone sees these floors, they can’t believe the kick-​ass professionalism of the job.
So what if I had to ‘work from home’ or call in sick for like a total of 5 days spread out over like a week and half and watch over and micromanage the idiot-​savant work team, and so what if the team clearly was annoyed by this – it’s imperative that you be the final inspector/​foreman or you WILL be fucked. This is just the reality in dealing with any big home improvement job that you’re not doin’ with your own hands.
This team of crazed wood-​wizards may have exasperated me, but they sure as hell have made me look good in the months since they finished the job. Let’s just hope it stands up for the next 10 – 50 years or so…(knock on wood)
