The goal of zero impact on the environment is one which is consistently in the plans, with the overall integration of good design practices and the client’s desired aesthetic the top priority.

Amato Architecture is committed to listening and collaborating with the client in order to bring about the best solution to each individual aspect of the project. A strong devotion to client satisfaction, attention to detail and a keen sense of cost consciousness has developed a strong and loyal following of return clientele.

History

Established in 2001.

Amato Architecture was founded in 2001 by Rebecca Ivans Amato, AIA and built upon over 20 years of experience in the architecture and design industry. Rebecca’s past involved commercial interior design, hospitality and hotel design, residential and retail projects both throughout the Bay Area as well as in Colorado, Thailand, Hong Kong and China. Her experience working with developers on high end residential projects, in a design-​build office as both an architect and project manager, and in smaller boutique design firms has enhanced her ability to wear many hats and be able to creatively solve problems in all areas involved in the design and construction process.

Business Owner

Born and raised in Colorado, Rebecca graduated from the Environmental School of Design in Boulder, CO in 1988. She moved to San Francisco in August of 1989, where she worked for large and mid-​size architectural firms such as Huntsman Associates (4 years), HOK (2 years) Babey — Moulton (2 years) and In: Site Design Build associates (6 years). Rebecca traveled extensively for 2 years throughout South-​East Asia and combined exploring different cultures with working. She spent 3 months in the Nepal jungle working for Tiger Tops and over 1 year in Bangkok Thailand working for the Australian Architectural firm of Woods-​Bagot as a design director. Rebecca started Amato Architecture in 2001 after getting married and has since had two children. She is currently living in Oakland, CA

She made an appointment with us at a time that was convenient for her. I spent one hour commuting, my daughter-​in-​law left work early and skipped lunch so she could be home. This person called us at 4:30 (she was supposed to be at the house) and said she was not coming as she had too much other work to do. I felt she was rude. (canceling at the last minute is rude)
O.K. possibly a misunderstanding. But still was not happy.

Rebecca Amato has tons of experience with both residential and commercial design. As a general contractor, I have worked with tons of architects over the years. Rebecca is one of the best. She is still personally involved in the design and execution of her projects. With large firms, clients are handed off to «project architects», who may not be up to the standard of the principals. With Rebecca, you get the «real deal” – Rebecca herself. And she is outstanding. Highly recommended!

I am a general contractor who has worked with Rebecca Amato. I have worked with many architects over the past 11 years of owning my own business. Rebecca’s design build experience gives her an understanding of field construction and job costing that is far superior to many architects. She matches her aesthetic sense to the clients’ desires while also taking into consideration their budget, and delivers a product that best meets their needs. Her field visits to work out design details ensure that the project is completed per her specifications. As a contractor I found her very easy to work with and our client was clearly very impressed and satisfied. I would highly recommend Rebecca to anyone pursuing a construction project that requires an architect.

We recently worked with Rebecca Amato for a total remodel of our 1925 home. My husband and I are not great at articulating our style, but somehow she was able to get us what we wanted. Rebecca came into our project after it had started and immediately began making necessary architectural changes that we couldn’t be happier with today. She is able to collaborate with other team members and was incredibly sensitive to our wishes as well as the needs of our other contractors. She is extremely responsive, creative and easy to work with and has a large network of specialists/​suppliers. She also has a lot of ‘green building’ knowledge, and makes ‘green’ suggestions but leaves it up to the client. Rebecca’s pricing is very fair and she was conscious of our budget. We used Rebecca as a designer as well and love the tile, metal, lighting and paint choices she helped us with. My husband and I highly recommend her!

We debated whether we really needed an architect for our do-​it-​yourself remodel of our small house, which involves moving a stairway, re-​doing our kitchen, putting in a second bath and finding room for some much-​needed closets. We had a general idea of what we wanted, but I felt a professional would help us come up with a better plan, particularly because we were trying to do a lot with a small space and needed to be clever about it. My partner now agrees that he is glad that I won the debate and we hired Rebecca Amato. I appreciated the attention she gave to our small project (we only hired her to do the design and basic drawings, not full construction plans). She listened to what we wanted, but also provided a voice of experience and her own advice. After visiting our house and discussing our ideas, she came up with several alternative designs, took our input, and combined them into a final plan. The plan was significantly better than what we came up with on our own and well worth the investment. We are midway through the project now and very happy with how it is shaping up!
