Generations at Elmwood

All of the staff are very kind and know what they’re doing. I’ve had 2 family members here and I wouldn’t hesitate to use this facility again.

If I could give ZERO stars, I would! My grandpa was at this facility for a little under an hour and we went to visit him to make sure his transfer from the hospital was smooth. As soon as we went in his room, he was in the bed and facing the wall. He turned around and his glasses were on upside down. He then started to talk and his speech was not right, he was slurring, lips droopy, drooling and something was totally wrong. I asked him what was wrong and he told me that he was drunk. I told him no grandpa you’re probably on some medication so I asked the nurse if he was given anything and he told me no. I told the nurse that he was not right, the nurse then proceeded to check him out. I then called the hospital he was transported from to see if they had given him medicine and/​or if anything was wrong or medicine was given, the answer was no to both. After that I asked the nurse if it was alright for me to call 911 and he said yes, if it was my family I would do the same. I then called 911 and he was taken to the ER where he was transferred to ICU at UIC.
The bottom line of my story is now Elmwood Care will no longer accept my grandfather in their facility because they said we went AMA (against medical advice) and didn’t follow protocol. I contacted both the director Colleen Rodney and the nurse leasion, Sid who told mr that they will no longer accept my grandfather because we were AMA and didn’t follow protocol when in fact, I did. They are saying that he was in a stable condition when in fact he wasn’t. If he was stable then why did the paramedics take him? Why did he get transferred to an ICU unit? Most ‘stable’ people aren’t placed in ICU. So my complaint is that because I did was right and was trying to save my grandfathers life and was advised to call 911, this facility is denying his stay there.
Please consider another place for your loved one. They do not care about the patients well-​being but rather protocols, which don’t make sense.

HORRIBLE! Just moved my mother from tgis hell hole. Where they put her in a VERY hot roome with 2 other patients (A room only big enough for two) which is a fire hazard! They nursing staff is lazy they barely clean up the patients the dont turn them either! Never any clean linen. Rude Administration Staff! The day I moved my mother The new place found bed sores on her feet and back! also Arrived with a respiratory infection so SOMEONE WASNT DOING THEIR JOB! I WOULDN’T LEAVE MY DOG HERE

I had a nice impression from this place and I’m not sure what the other reviewers are talking about. I was very comfortable leaving my mother here. The staff is very friendly and I feel they provided her with quality care. Thank you.

I went here on a field trip one day back in jr. high (yes, I realize I’m dating myself here but deal with it) for Christmas and it was nasty. The whole place smelled like old urine, the patients did not look happy to be there.
The nurses seemed super uptight and not interested in anyone other than each other.
I drive by it semi frequently and always notice the people who work there outside smoking. I wouldnt want them to take care of me or any of my loved ones.

Horrendous nursing home. With extremely lazy workers. The places a dump and smelled like urine and feces. I highly suggest never to send any elderly person here.
