Great Hilton Garden Inn — Just A Sucky Location
SITREP
As I travel for state to conduct trainings, I prefer to stay as close to the training locations as possible. But I also prefer to keep using the same family of hotels so I can accumulate points at a level that will make it worthwhile to take advantage of discounts and free nights. The Hilton Family is one family of hotels I prefer to stay within.
THE SETUP
This hotel is technically close to our regional office in Culver City. There are some other Hilton family options (such as Double Tree, Embassy Suites, Hampton Inn, etc.), but depending on their locations, the time of year you need to travel, and how quickly you are able to lock in a reservation, the options may be limited. On this occasion, Hilton Garden Innn worked out nicely.
However, the problem with this location is it’s right next to LAX airport. And there is not much within walking distance to take advantage of in terms of culture, restaurants, and the other pleasantries that may a stay worthwhile.
But on the other hand, all I’m really doing at this hotel is crashing, going to sleep, getting up and getting ready for a day of training for five (5) straight days (or 10 days if a two-​week stint).
THE ROOM
The rooms are very comfortable, and I always snag a two-​queen bed room just in case a colleague has to jet down at the last minute and might need a place to crash as well. But most of the time, I like to lay my shit (both work and the next day’s clothes) out on one bed while I sleep on the other.
It’s nice that if you have a «Do Not Disturb» sign up, they respect that, even if you leave it up for 5 straight days. While I’m embedded in an area, I like the fact that they won’t come in and mess my stuff up while cleaning. So I keep them out for the 5 days.
Always enjoy the desk set-​up, and the HBO and the CNN and the random local TV stuff. And I try to snag as many cookies as I can get away with, and I love the fact that there is Free WiFi here.
THE RATE
Hilton Garden Inn is always abiding by the State Rate whichever community I find myself in and so I am very happy to set up reservations here that fall within my reimbursement plan.
THE LOWDOWN
This Hilton Garden Inn — besides location — is a great solid hotel deal.
