Avalon Dental Care

This place is great, especially compared to the place I came from. The equipment they use seems up to date their work is solid not to mention their staff is super friendly and really make you feel comfortable.

I highly recommend Diane Shaw the Dental Hygienist. She is very motivated, easy to be around/​talk to and very passionate about patient education. She really pulled out all the stops to make sure the cleaning procedure was comfortable. Having your teeth scraped is never fun, but this was by far the best and most professional version of this procedure I have had! Diane taught me more about how to appropriately clean my teeth than any RDH I have ever had.
I also have Invisalign with Avalon. I always look forward to my regular visits because the staff is so friendly, always smiling and more than happy to help you in any way they can.

Everyone was friendly here however I noticed something odd about this place. The technology was all top notch and they took an excessive amount of x rays of my teeth (way more than is needed or necessary). Be aware as your insurance may not cover the amount they take. This however, is not why i would avoid this place. I take very good care of my teeth and have only had one or two cavities my whole life. After examination they told me I had at least 10 cavities. I was floored to hear this. I went to my usual out of state dentist for a second opinion and he said I didn’t have a single cavity. This makes me skeptical of their honesty and their desire to money to have all the latest technologies within their office. Would not recommend.

I highly recommend Dr. Kelishadi and her staff. They are professional, kind, thorough and just as concerned about your comfort as they are about the procedure. Dr. Kelishadi is a perfectionist and it shows in her work and methodology. The staff is great about appointment reminders and rescheduling when necessary.

Billing here is a NIGHTMARE. They don’t have all their marbles.
My filling was the worst experience of my life. It hurt for months afterwards (and several adjustments) and still doesn’t feel normal to this day.
Just another bad dentist, what else is new.
Oh ya, free whitening for LIFE (fine print: only when you get your teeth cleaned. good luck if you lose the whitening trays).

The Good:
Started coming here since it was located in the same building as my old office. Office is very clean, staff is very friendly, and very equipment is very cutting edge. Have mostly done just regular cleanings here which were fine. The main hygienist was very nice and knowledgeable.
The bad:
The main reason for the lower rating is due to the amount of upselling. They tried to sell both my wife and I on both Invisalign, Night guards, and deep cleanings. This last trip they told my wife she needed a full crown and it was going to cost her over $ 600 after insurance. After going and getting a second opinion, she was advised that she actually did not need the work done. They also suggested replacing one of her fillings because it was leaking. Again, after getting a second opinion we were told there was no leak. Not for sure why they would tell her she needed these services if she really didn’t. Obviously it could be a difference of professional opinion. But given the amount of upselling that took place previously, it makes you wonder if you are being SOLD. Hate feeling like i am at a car dealership just to have a clean mouth.
The bottom line:
would like to give them benefit of the doubt and trust there was no foul play going on here. But not willing to risk my dental hygiene trying to find out.

Dr. Kelishadi is a very good dentist and she has an outstanding staff. All the work I had at Avalon is top notch. They do really good work and take care of you while you are undergoing a proceedure. I’m alway comfortable and happy with my cleanings and checkups. I had them replace all of my old silver fillings recently, and I’m very happy with the results. I’ve never been in any discomfort during a procedure, and they are very considerate of comfort level. The office is clean and all equipment is modern and state of the art.
The only reason I have to give them 4 of 5 is due to how expensive they are (but you get what you pay for). Sadly to say, I have to quit going here since I had to drop my coverage from PPO to HMO due to rising insurance costs at work, and they are not in network for the HMO. Also, they do really make a push for you to get additional services. Different hygenist suggested, multiple times, I get invisiline even though I have had braces and my teeth are in really good shape. They also keep making similar suggestions to my wife for things that seem mostly cosmetic. My friend who initially referred me told me she had similar experience.

I’m relatively new to LA so I was looking for a local dentist that was covered by my insurance. I found Avalon on Unilocal and saw they had some great coupons on their website so thought why not. I called at lunchtime and they booked me in for a 2pm apo the same day for a routine checkup, cleaning and an x Ray (which btw you can use a coupon on their website to redeem free lifetime teeth whiting when you get all three!). This dentist was the first one in my short 32 years that explained in detail every step they were taking, taught me why and how to clean and care for my teeth with photos, broke down the cost for each procedure and gave me very clear options so I could choose how much I wanted to pay out of pocket (after insurance). I’ve never seen that before so I was impressed by their professionalism and understanding of their clients. I’ve never written reviews for a dentist before but after my experience here, I knew I had to because there really aren’t many legit dentist reviews out there (most seem to be written by «fake» Unilocal profiles. People with one or two reviews… friends, family or the business owner???). So I thought I would add my review here for those of you like me who use Unilocal to search for dentists :)

I was fortunate enough to work at a near by office, when Dr Kelishadi opened. Even though I do not work in the area, I will continue to go here. Not only is this entire office is spotless, they also have top of the line equipment (star quality). The main reason is the people! I absolutely love Dr. Kelishadi. Her hands are so gentle. She is truly the best dentist I have even been to. Her staff is also great! Favi, at the front desk has always been so nice to deal with and very helpful. Very professional! Every time I go there, I know that I am well taken care of and would highly recommend Avalon Dental Care.

I have been waiting to write this review until all my dental work was completed but it’s now all done and can really speak of my experience. I love this dental office I am completely afraid of the dentist but I actually feel comfortable coming to get work done here. Dr. Kelishadi has very soft hands and hardly feel the shots and I would know since she did a root canal and 4 wisdom teeth extractions on me. The location is very clean and everyone that works here is friendly and always trying to make me feel comfortable. Eventho because of my job I get many offers from other dentists I wouldn’t change.

I work in the same building and thought I’d ought to give this place a try. I work in the healthcare industry so I tend to be quite picky and have high expectations about my experience in other healthcare facilities. I’ll list out things I noticed:
— Very clean atmosphere with soothing music
— Walls are light green to give a sense of calm
— Glass doors separating the reception area vs the clinical side
— Each workstation inside was separated by wooden walls/​divideres as to not violate too many HIPAA laws. This is important to me. I hate sharing a space with another patient and having them overhear my health concerns and then see my face
— High-​Tech instruments with thorough explanation of its usage by the hygienist
— Great smelling pomegranate tooth polish (that’s a new one for me)
— Eye shield so that the polish doesn’t get into your eyes when it’s being applied (my only concern is wondering whehter or not those eye shields get disinfected after use)
— Goodie bag on your way out full of dental fun!
— Dr. Kelishadi was very thorough and understanding when meeting with me. Carefully listened to me as I gave her the low-​down on my dental history
— Also told her cost was an issue for other procedures and she totally understood
— Dr K prioritized which procedures could wait and which to start soon
— Favi was great with going over financials — explained insurance benefits and out of pocket expenses
— Very courteous when it came down to scheduling and helping making appts work for «me»
— A little more pricier than other dentists I’ve been to. But have accepted ‘paying’ for better customer service if it means having more quality care and attention
Overall pleasant experience. The only thing I noticed was that when I walked in, no one was at the front desk. There was one other patient waiting there before me but no one asked if I had checked in or if I was there for anything in particular until Favi came in (since I originally scheduled with her and had been coordinating this whole event with her from start to finish). It wasn’t a huge ordeal, but I’ve learned that the #1 thing that patients hate is not knowing where they are in the process.
Will refer my friends and relatives here!

Basically, this is the best dentist I’ve ever been to, and I didn’t know a dental office could make for this nice an experience every time. Here’s the details as I see it:
This office is new and seems to have the latest dental care technology and an excellent, friendly, efficient staff. Dr. K inspires confidence and is careful and sensitive. She took a lot of time with me and communicated well and carefully about the options I had.
One of the things I liked best was that the individual patient rooms aren’t walled off with doors down a hallway like a traditional dental office. They have an open plan with high wood wall dividers made of a warm wood that’s not only beautiful and soothing, but felt less claustrophobic and off-​putting to me. The offices are beautifully designed — full of natural light, soothing very creamy yellow walls, room dividers and cabinets of the same wood, and a very light and airy feel.
It matches the warmth and openness and relaxed nature of the staff. It makes for a really good experience. They also treated me well when a vendor lost and broke the impression for my nightguard twice, and gave me a free item (a non-​trivial one, i mean) to make up for it. It was pretty impressive, and even though the office is now across town from me, I’ll keep going there in the future.
