History

Established in 1984.

An ice cream parlor in Berkeley, CA is where Azim Dehestani (current owner) started Hi-​Tech Car Audio. After a few years of building a loyal customer base, Azim moved across the street and established his own private facility. From here the shop flourished– eventually to a degree where it was in need of a much bigger location with more room for installation. So, Azim moved to a location 3 times larger in the city of El Cerrito (current location). Soon it was carrying brands like JL Audio, Rockford Fosgate, Pioneer, Alpine, Kenwood and Focal. Immediately, it gained public recognition as one of the best car audio company’s around & in recent years it’s been declared by Mobile Electronics Magazine as one of the Top 50 Retailers in the Nation. It has also created quite a reputation as being one of the few retailers to sell merchandise below wholesale prices during its semi-​annual ‘Midnight Madness Event’. Until this day Hi-​Tech persists in providing the ultimate consumer experience.

Business Owner

Azim Dehestani was born in Iran and immigrated to the US in 1984 with his wife and daughter. To support his family, Azim worked long hours at a smoothie stand in Berkeley, CA for the first few years, and soon after started work at a friends ice cream parlor. Azim had a life-​long passion for consumer electronics and his friend saw this and offered him a section in his shop to sell electronics from. Due to his natural ability to connect with people and his love for the car audio industry, his business flourished and expanded to where it is today. And even though he’s reached great success, it doesn’t stop him from being present and fully engaged in all aspects of his business. And if he’s not at Hi-​Tech, you can probably find him on a riverside fly fishing or spending time with family.
