Hochberg Henry, MD

Dr Henry, I call him that because I have been going to this doctor for many years, maybe 20? And what is so impressive about him is that he is a «real» or «genuine» person. No airs here. He is kind, knowledgeable, considerate, and always helps me figure out what is wrong and best most economical way to address the problem.
I recently went to see him because I had 3 or 4 minutes of severe chest pain and he got me in right away and listened to me, told me his impressions, asked what I thought about that, and we discussed the most economic minimal things we could do.
He suggested an ultrasound for my carotid and CT for my chest both only cost $ 115. And that was all I needed for Henry to determine that my heart was not the cause of my chest pain… Yahoo!
Another thing is that he would never prescribe medication/​pharmaceuticals for me… unless absolutely necessary. I maintain my body with plant based diet and never take medication, and Henry respects that about me.
Coming here is like coming home… and his staff led by Gi is so friendly and helpful.

Dr. Hochberg and his staff were very courteous and I felt welcomed and at home when I was there. Going to the doc is rarely a pleasant experience so imagine my relief when I was made to feel comfortable at the office. Thanks to Dr. Hochberg and his staff I feel like I have a nice place to get a check up when I’m in the Seattle area.

We moved to Edmonds earlier this year and found Dr. Hochberg on Unilocal as the only family doctor long established in the area with all five star reviews. I felt fortunate that he accepted me as a new patient on Medicare, as after serving on a hospital board for eleven years through the ‘80s and then after early retirement volunteering for nine years with what is now the Center for Integrative Medicine at the Univ. of AZ medical school founded by Dr. Andrew Weil, I know more about some doctors than I wanted to and was only interested in being seen by an exceptionally good medical doctor with a holistic approach. He has turned out to be everything I could ever hope for.
Dr. Hochberg went to a top medical school and has expanded his knowledge far beyond that, keeping up with the latest in holistic health. He has a keen mind, is an good listener and has referred me to excellent specialists and for tests in cardiology, ophthalmology and neurology. I have acted on his recommendations and am very satisfied with results so far.
I’m saddened to see these new reviews that are polar opposite, which prompts me to read a bit between the lines, hope those with negative experiences find relief, and write of my own experience. I feel very lucky to have found him thru Unilocal

I have been interning at Dr. Hochberg’s office for a few months. I’ve been hearing from many patients how this office is neat, homey and relaxing. The staff is hard working and thorough. They are nice and warm understanding people. Occasionally some drug seeking patients have trouble with the front office. Since Dr. Hochberg is more natural doctor he is very strict about narcotics or other addicting drugs. Those patients sometimes end up storming out of the office slamming the door even before they get to see the doctor when they don’t get what they want. Except for this I can see most of the patients are very nice and have a good relationship with this office. I love working here. Unfortunately they are not taking new patients or otherwise I would recommend my own family and friends to come here with confidence.

Dirty office, un-​professional staff, I would give negative stars if Unilocal has that function

If I could give no stars, I would. I just moved to the area less than a year ago and thought I hit the jackpot with Dr. H. Kind, attentive, well respected among other drs regarding getting referrals to the inevitable specialists i would need. Then, without warning, he stopped providing medical care to me (and this was after I referred my husband to Dr. H and he performed test after test on my poor hubs). I injured my back in March, aggrivating a previous back injury of which Dr H had record. For weeks i was in pain, going to appts w him every other wk, giving status updates about failed acupuncture etc. Only thing that would slightly ease pain was one rx pain med. After 2 mos with no progress & worsening pain… what does he do? Not refer me to a Pain Doc or specialist, Not order xrays or MRIs, Not answer calls or messages… He & his office CALL THE PHARMACY & CANCEL THE PRESCRIPTIONS THEY WROTE FOR 1 week of pain meds without telling me! So now Im in crazy back pain, have no relief, have a dr who refuses to refer me to a pain specialist (you need to be referred to them by your pcp), and who won’t take calls or appts.
Finally was able to switch primary care providers, get a referral to pain specialist, get the MRI i needed, and the rx i needed re-​established by another doc. Turns out my back is in SUCH BAD CONDITION i need surgery.

I really love Dr. Hochberg! I just met him for the first time last week and decided to try him out. Oh wow! He listens to me and tries to get to the cause of my problem. The other doctors I’ve had in the past never listened to me and never really solved my digestive issues. He is determined to get to the bottom of the problem and it’s so refreshing to know that someone understands me for the first time. I highly recommend Dr. Hochberg if you are looking for a primary doctor.

Wonderful doctor and his wife is great. They always get me in right away if it’s emergency. Dr. Hochberg is a great person and a doctor. and his wife is kind.

I have been a patient of Dr. Hochberg for over 10 years. I have the usual array of issues that older, overweight women often faced. He listens, coaches, prescribes, talks gently about life style changes, explains lab results, prescribes alternative medical treatments, and uses current tradition prescriptions. I think he is wonderful. The wait times can be long at times in the office but I know that when I come in and am prepard and reassured by the fact that it means he is taking time to really listen and to talk to other patients. Gi (whose name I am probably misspelling) seems to run the office and is extremely knowledgeable and competent as well.

Dr. Hochberg always takes time to listen to your symptoms/​problems even if they are not what you originally scheduled the appointment for. His diagnosis is usually on target. He has a good sense of who to refer you to and when it is necessary. He has an open mind about nontraditional medicine and doesn’t just write it off. Quite possibly the best family doctor my family has ever had.

Dr. Hochberg, where have you been all my life??? This is exactly the type of practice my husband and son and I have been looking for. We’ve now been patients of his family practice for about 6 months and simply adore Hochberg. He is patient and reassuring, not afraid to show you his thought process, confident, funny and personable, very experienced, very thorough, open to more natural approaches in medicine, has taught at Bastyr, has a friendly staff, and I’ve never seen people look happier in a waiting room. I simply cannot imagine a better family doc. We look forward to many years as a family with Hochberg.

Easy to get in — When I called to ask if he was taking new patients and could I make an appointement, they asked if I wanted to come the next day or the day after. And every time since, I’ve been able to make a same-​day or next-​day appointment.
Open — I am partial to taking a very scientific and medical view of my health care but at the same time, I appreciate a doctor who is in tune with the alternative community because I take it as a sign that s/​he will be willing to let me contribute to my own care. Right up at the reception desk, the office has business cards for a couple of naturopaths and acupuncturists, and hanging next to his diplomas in one of the exam rooms is a commendation from Bastyr University.
Listens — will take the time to listen to all of your concerns, I’ve never felt rushed during an appointment.
Is aware that he doesn’t know EVERYTHING — this is key to me… I have spent so much time educating myself to the best of my ability on current opinions/​treatments/​lab reference values/​etc. for my primary health concerns that I have been very upset when I go to a doctor only to have them diagnose and treat me with out-​of-​date information while dismissing anything that I bring up. Dr. Hochberg tries to stay current but said during my first appointment that there was too much out there and too many things changing all the time for him to know all of it. He’ll listen and look in to the things that you bring up AND, also important, he will refer you to a specialist or another dr. in the area that has more experience treating something if what he is trying isn’t working for you.
Prompt — they call you back ASAP when they get lab results back AND, when I needed a renal ultrasound sooner than the week-​and-​a-​half away appointment than I was able to schedule on my own at the radiologists, Dr. Hochberg’s office had the u/​s place call the tech at home in the evening to ask if she would be able to stay late the next day to add me on to the end of her schedule (which means the u/​s place and tech get a star too :)
