As a busy professional and a
young father I thought I could simply hire a professional specializing in construction, throw money at him and have my old carpeting replaced with laminate and tiles. I specifically wanted to rely on a seasoned professional to properly scope out and manage the project. Instead I am wasting time having to learn everything under the sun about flooring, about laminate installation, about sub floors, about consumers rights, about contract law, about condo association complaints, about legal counsel and about the judicial system, and now have to redo the whole project. So unless you really want to have a similar experience look elsewhere.
N.B. Being fairly sentimental by nature I thought I was doing a good deed hiring someone from the local Russian community… Big mistake! If you insist on hiring Metin make sure all communication is in English and duplicated in written form.
P. S. finally replacing the flooring as of Jan 30^th with a different contractor, so uploaded a few more pictures of the quality issues. Most of the laminate was glued together, which made removal thrice as long and meant we couldn’t salvage any material for future use.

We agreed to have a flooring renovation with Metin Home Improvements in our condo. The project was supposed to start and finish with us out of town for some time. We wanted Metin to remove the carpet and put some ceramic tiles at the entrance and install laminate in the living room and hallway. Metin assured us that there was plywood underneath the carpet and thus we didn’t need to level the floor for laminate installation. After getting an estimate of $ 2700 for putting 70 sq. feet of ceramic tile and 370 sq. feet of the laminate, we chose the materials at a local Home Depot, and Metin suggested helping to pick up the materials and buy some necessary supplies. When he came to our place for a second time to help deliver the materials, We asked him how he would put the ceramic tiles on plywood. Metin answered that ceramic tiles were not to be installed directly on plywood, and that is why he was going to put cement boards underneath. We agreed to start the project with a $ 1000 deposit while we were away and an additional $ 200 gift card. The second payment of $ 1700 was supposed to be paid after the job is done.
After coming back from vacation we looked around and noticed that there are many gaps between the laminate tiles, that the laminate tiles are laid unevenly in many spots, that large «bubbles» of laminate are visibly going up and down as you walk over them and make tons of creaking and groaning noises. One particular spot is so bad that a laminate tile easily flexes downwards pressing it with the toe, and another tile makes thumping noises. We reached out to Metin and he had surprised us with the information that our sub floor is not made of plywood, but is very uneven concrete instead, and showed us some pictures on his phone of the concrete with many cracks. It was obvious that the concrete needed leveling and the unevenness was the reason behind all the flexing in the laminate. In his own words, he did not inform us about any of this during the actual work, because he thought we would not want to pay extra for leveling the sub floor. He agreed that the quality of the work was substandard and that he would never do something like this inside his own house. He also agreed to come in a week to try to repair the one really bad spot. After a week the laminate seemed worse and was making noises in more places and seemed to «bubble» and flex more all over the place, and we had realized that trying to fix any particular portion by tearing it apart and using cement wasn’t going to help matters, especially since affected sections would need to be replaced with fresh laminate material. When Metin came for the repair we shared our concerns regarding the whole flooring project, that the only way to repair this floor was to remove the whole laminate flooring, level the concrete sub floor and put new laminate on the now even concrete. We had suggested to Metin to field the cost of new material and get the work done (with us paying additionally for the leveling). Metin refused. As a result, we have about $ 1500 of good laminate and associated materials completely spoiled, and thus reasonably refused to pay the remaining second payment of $ 1700. Metin had suggested paying him $ 500 as his compensation, and told he would send an updated estimate and termination of contract. That same day in the evening our neighbors downstairs came to us and complained of loud cracking noises they had been hearing from our unit ever since we came back about a week before. The following day we also received an official complaint from our condo association, obliging us to resolve the matter or face financial penalties. This means that we cannot simply leave the improperly installed laminate sit until a more convenient time to be redone, but now have to ASAP hire qualified professionals to tear all the laminate down and redo everything. Speaking of the tiles, because the sub floor is actually concrete and not plywood, there was no technological necessity to use cement boards, as a leveling compound should have been used instead, and we had never discussed and confirmed any of the additional work or charges, either via instant messaging, email (as we were away) or via amending the original estimate. The quality of the tile installation is so-​so, and according to Metin this is due to the quality of the materials, even though it hadn’t been brought up at all during the installation.

We have had 2 bathrooms done by Metin and his crew. There is only one thing I regret — that I didn’t met Metin earlier. If you are looking for expert, patient, neat, quite and nice person he is the right man. The estimate was very reasonable. He arrived every day on time and clean up every night before he left, you can’t even tell there is a contractor at your home. I changed the project so many times, but he was patient and meticulously precise with every little detail. If you want it done RIGHT, these are the guys to get it done, I highly recommend them!

We hired Metin to remodel our bathroom, particularly to install a glass shower enclosure and to tile it. There were multiple problems with Metin’s work: the shower floor was not installed and tiled properly; the tile was installed unevenly on the wall; the shower niche was tiled sloppily; the shower border and the walls were not built properly, the shower walls were not waterproofed as promised etc. We had to hire someone else to redo the project from the scratch, which was a big time and money waste for us.

My apartment bathroom needed to be retiled pretty badly and some friends of mine recommended Metin to me. He responded quickly to my request and gave a very fair price quote. He completed the job within a day and was also able to install a new faucet to fix the leaking fixtures that I currently had in place. He did a great job with the entire project and stood by his work by offering to fix any issues that might come up.
Metin is a good, hardworking guy. He’ll give you a fair shake and do quality work on whatever job you need him for. I would definitely recommend him.

Metin was recommended to me by one of my friends for whom he regularly worked for. I needed Metin to do quite a few things around a condo I had just purchased including painting, removing sliding doors in the shower, installing a storm door, installing carpet and under-​lining in the bedroom, removing some damaged wood from the front façade and replacing it, replacing the front door etc. So it was a big job, Metin was fantastic right from the first phone call, having been stood up by couple other contractors previous 2 days I was rather surprised Metin was punctual and even gave me a ride home since my car was broken down after doing a walkthrough.
His quotes were very reasonable I thought, his work was stellar and he did well to manage expectations throughout the 2 week long project. We had a tight deadline to move in and Metin did well to accommodate us. Metin was great in that he gave me tips while walking around the house on what to keep an eye on and what to do in case XYZ happens.
Metin is a great person, honest, hardworking, thoughtful, needless to say I will not think twice about calling him again.

Metin truly is a wonderful handyman. He did a few projects for us recently, and we were so happy with the outcome. He is hard-​working and honest, and definitely takes pride in his work! This is very rare to find nowadays. Highly recommended!

I called Metin on a Sunday as I needed a new hardwood floor in my rental unit. He was able to come in to take a look at the job the same day and gave me a very reasonable estimate within 2 days.
