History

Established in 1996.

Opened in 1996 by Alison Dance, Cyprus Café was created to offer a small mountain town a taste of the Mediterranean. Dance, formally of San Francisco, had previously co owned the acclaimed Asimakopoulos Café, a Greek restaurant on Potrero Hill. Desiring a wider audience, Dance chose to increase the boundaries of her new establishment which is now described as Cyprus Café, «Where Mediterranean Meets the Mountains.

Business Owner

Alison Dance started her restaurant career at the age of 11, washing dishes at the Red Rooster restaurant in Pine Junction, Colorado. She opened her first restaurant with a friend at the age of 23 in San Francisco’s lower Haight. A pizzeria and art gallery, Pannatolli’s was a popular spot until it’s closure in 1981 due to a fire in the building. Dance co owned and operated Asimakopoulos Café on Potrero Hill in San Francisco until its sale in 1996, when she relocated to Durango Colorado. She opened Cyprus Café an award winning Mediterranean restaurant in 1996 and in 2010 opened ENO a wine and tapas bar also featuring hand crafted cocktails and coffees.
