Specialties
Hospitality and wonderful wines and pairings are our speciality. At Aspen Dale we are a farm winery in the best sense of the word. It is our privilege to be the owner/caretakers of this wonderful 200+ year old country estate. Moreover, we are pleased to be able to say that there is not a piece of sheetrock in the entire 200+ year-old barn winery!
Both the staff and we, the owners, value each person who decides to visit us and we take very seriously the fact that you give us time out of your day. We always try to make your visit the most satisfying experience you could hope to have in the wine and horse country of Northern Virginia.
Do come to see us.
History
Established in 2009.
Shay, one of the owners, has deep Virginia roots and Aspen Dale is the perfect place for her to exercise her passion for wine, history and race horses. Her family was in the wine business in ‘Olé England and throughout the American Colonial Era.
In fact, her real motivation was a fantasic bottle — a blend of Carmenere, Cab Sav, Cab Franc that was so nice you could chew it. «Almaviva is the name of both winery and wine born of the joint venture between Baron Philippe de Rothschild and Viña Concha y Toro. It is also that of Pierre de Beaumarchais’ character, the „Count of Almaviva“ in his Marriage of Figaro, a work Wolfang Amadeus Mozart later turned into one of the most popular operas ever.»
So …we just harvested our first Carmenere this year and joined the few who now grow this wonderful historic grape on the east coast. It grows beautifully along side our Cab Sav and Cab Franc. And, this should come as no surprise — we actually just completed a field blend of the 3 Cs.
