Motown Guerrero; a retired contractor discovered a new passion in hair cutting. He saw a need for modern Men grooming Services, this led him in the decision in becoming a Barber. Motown is diligent in his persuit of the newest techniques and products available in order to provide a top notch experience to each and every Client. The last time I got a $ 10 haircut I ended up with my hairline pushed back an inch, so I was a little hesitant coming here. Thankfully, the barbers at Motown did an amazing job with my hair! The only downside is that there is a really long wait time so I suggest coming in as early as possible.

This is the best barber shop in Davis and the cheapest one as well if you have your student ID to get the $ 10 cut. I always get my haircuts from Ben (you can request who you want). He always listens to you and while gives you advice on what is better, he always does what you ultimately decide to do to your hair, which is what I like to see from a barber. Be cautious of the wait times as they are really in demand.

Best barbershop in Davis, hands down. I’ve had my hair cut at most of them in the area, and this is by far the best. Clean, professional, and (most importantly) the best cuts. I used to go to Olive Drive, but was unimpressed by their recent drop in quality and service. This place has proved to be a far better replacement. You never have to worry about which barber you get, because all of them have given me a great cut.
PRO TIPS: Arrive early and leave yourself some time! This place is pretty much always busy, and you cannot call ahead. However, I think this reflects the quality, detail, and popularity of this place. Also, bring your student ID (if you have one). Student cuts are $ 10, but you need ID.

Been getting my haircut at Great Clips for a while now because it was close to home. Probably one of the worst mistakes I could make.
I found Motown’s shop through Unilocal as I was tired of Great Clips. I showed Mo what I wanted from one of his previous cuts and he took care of me. Very professional and caring. He was very easy to talk to. He took his time compared to my 10 minute cuts from the other shop.
A month later, needed a new haircut and I had the pleasure to get Benny to get my second cut. I came at such an odd hour that they were about to close, but Benny and his crew took me in anyway and took care of me. Similar to Mo, he was very easy to talk to and explain what cut I wanted. He also gave me great advice on my cal-​lick and was able to care of it. I may have found my perfect shop!

They should call this place motown’s waiting room. It’s ridiculous how long you have to wait. I get, motown does a nice haircut and it’s affordable. But damn, I can’t spend 2+ hours to get my hair cut. If the wait wasn’t so long, 5 stars easy. So I guess if you’re first in line when he opens up, you’ll have a 5 star experience.

Not much that needs to be said. Expert, precise, and careful cuts, a low student price that can’t be beat, and that old school barbershop vibe.
The only note may be for anyone who’s unacquainted, Motown is pretty much legendary in Davis now so get here early in the day to make sure you get a seat!

I have been to 4 different barbers in Davis before coming across Motown Barber. Yesterday was my fourth time going to this Barber and all my previous cuts were from the white guy in the middle chair (unfortunately I forget his name) but he always takes his time and does great cuts. This was my first time being cut by Mo, the owner of the Barber shop in the chair closest to the door (has a KC Tattoo on his left arm). He was friendly but he rushed through the haircut and didn’t ask which direction I combed over my hair. He gave me a bowl cut on the right side (I comb my hair to the left) for an unknown reason. It’s literally twice as long as it is on the left side. He also used an electric razor to clean my neck line instead of a straight razor. I never go back to a barbershop that doesn’t do a straight razor line up, (the nice guy in chair two always uses a straight razor without having to ask).
Always request the white guy in chair two not the owner Mo. I’ll be going back but I’ll never let the owner cut my hair again.
Sidenote: this was the first time seeing a third barber (woman, don’t know her name) in chair three, I haven’t had her cut my hair so I can’t comment on her ability but the guy that she worked on while I was waiting had a good cut.

Can’t review much since I personally don’t get my haircut here… But my boyfriend does and he loves it! $ 10 cuts with student ID! :)
He likes getting his haircut both Motown and Ben (you can request your preferred barber) and it always turns out how he expects it to be. Mo seems very chill but also professional. He greets his customers and also gives them a firm handshake when he’s done.
The only thing that bothers me (but really doesnt affect anything) is how close that front desk table is near the door LOL it’s not a big deal but the door and table are one inch away from hitting each other. But that’s whatever lol
Also they give out free water :)

Worst haircut experience! Sorry I have to dissent from the general opinion. Mo is a good barber, but the bumbling novice I got didn’t know which end of the scissors to use. He didn’t understand what a medium fade meant and proceeded to butcher my hair. I was going to go with it and let him fix it, but his incompetence continued. I made him stop in the middle. I was going to walk out, but Mo stopped me and somewhat fixed things. Still the worst. Be careful who you get.

BEST BARBERS IN TOWN!!!
I really wish I’d found this place sooner. I’ve been to almost all the barbershops over the past 3 years I have been in Davis and I haven’t found one that can stick with until now. This place is run by nice, honest people who are absolutely great at cutting hair. When I first walked in, I noticed how clean and well put together the shop is. I was immediately greeted by Mo with a friendly handshake and introduction before he proceeded to cut my hair. Unlike the other barbers I had gone to over the years, Mo really understood how I wanted my hair cut. Not only that he was able to cut my hair just how I liked it, he actually TOOK HIS TIME cutting my hair to make sure I look good. To top it all off, they gave me the student discount (10 dollar haircut) even though I had forgotten my ID. This place has earned every star and every good review given to them. I would give them 6 stars if I could. I can’t wait for my hair to grow out so I can come back here to cut my hair!

I’ve been searching for a decent barbershop in Davis ever since someone-​who-​will-​not –be-​named at the Davis Barber Shop yelled at me for coming in 10 minutes after they had closed while they finished up a haircut. I had been going there for years, and I told them frankly that they had just lost a customer.
After going to Terrible Clips for a quick cut (hind sight is 20 – 20), I headed over to Motown to see if they could fix the travesty that was my hair. It was a Sunday, and few places were open (bonus), so it was by chance that I ended up here, but I’m glad I did!
Ben (shaved head, goatee, tattooed arms) was the perfect balance of courtesy, humor, and just plain doing a great job cutting hair! He was friendly and talkative, but also managed not to talk my ears off as some other barbers have done in the past. Not only did he fix my bad cut, he explained to me the incorrect techniques that left my hair poorly blended, and what he was going to do to clean everything up. Finished my neckline with warm soap and a straight razor. I might go back for a shave next time! Afterword, he even let me leave to grab some cash since I had already spent my cash at Terrible Clips.
At such a reasonable price ($ 15, $ 10 with student ID), and with professionalism and quality that has been hard to find in town, I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Motown Barber.

After getting my hair thrashed by another barber, I came here to hopefully get it fixed.
I was not expecting a miracle, but I definitely needed some damage control. And the lady fa sho helped with that.
I explained to her my situation and how I wasn’t sure what I could do to fix my hair. She gave me her input and checked with me before doing anything major. I’m very satisfied with her take on my hair and the results. I wish I had checked this place out sooner!
I’ll be leaving Davis soon but will be coming back to Motown’s shop whenever I’m in the area. Only reason I can’t give 5 stars is because I want to see what they do with a good head of hair… (as opposed to the abomination that was my hair lol).

MOTOWN!!! I love this spot!!!
I cut my own hair for years but when I decided to let a professional take over it took equally as long to find a place that I liked. Not only liked, but trusted.
Trust is a big thing when you’re talking hair. From the very first visit, the overwhelmingly friendly attitude and professionalism shined. Being in customer service myself, a hello with a smile is always a step in the right direction. Not only were they friendly but they listened to what I wanted. I’d been to the big and «better» and trendy places around the Sacramento area. Non of those «traditional» barbers gave a damn about anything, except that their own hair looked proper. I have a simple look and to not get it right, means you’re not paying attention…
Now I frequent Motown every other week or so to stay fresh. They fade me up and finish every cut with a straight razor neck shave. They have the hot foam for your face if you’re in to that. For me, I have a beard and they know how to take care of that, too.
I’d recommend this place for gentlemen of all ages. They always have the old school jams playing and offer discounts with school ID. Sometimes there’s a short wait. So, if you want to look fresh on a Friday, go before the 3 O’clock bell rings.

When Motown cuts my hair, I’m pretty sure an angel in heaven starts crying. Seriously though, I could not be happier that Motown has his own place now. I’m a big fan and I’m vowing to never get my hair cut anywhere for the rest of undergrad.
So, here it, short and simple:
–Bottom line, as a student: at 10 dollars, there’s no better price in Davis
–He’s a genuinely friendly guy and his attention to detail is unmatched
–He will spend time on your hair and ask you how’s it’s going throughout
–The place is spacious, beautiful artwork, and it is remarkably clean
The best barbershop I’ve been to, hands down. Once you come here, you don’t go… joking. You’ll be back.
