Surprised to see some bad reviews here… I thought the desk staff was great, and I’m pretty sure I’m not of the same ethnic group they are. They were really attentive to my mother’s insurance issues and gave us plenty of attention. She saw Dr. Holland (Sr) and I would gladly refer him to any of my friends. I sat in on her exam and found him to be very personable, attentive, and knowledgable. Plus, he’s a BEAR (the Cal variety)! What more can I say? :)

This was my first time I’ve ever gotten a check-​up and eyeglasses outside of Costco Optical and I must say, thumbs up!
I’m not quite sure why there are so many subpar reviews. My experience with them was pleasant and speedy. My doctor was Dr. Kan and she was efficient and friendly. What else could you ask for in a doctor? Also, I ordered 3 pairs of glasses, yes 3, and I was able to pick them up in a little over a week’s time.
If anyone is looking for designer brands, they do carry a nice selection. I picked up a couple of Michael Kors frames and I love them!
The employees there always greeted me when I walked in and asked if I had been helped. In addition, they were patient with me in explaining what specifically my insurance covered.
Overall, I enjoyed my experience and plan to stick with them!

Dr. Holland’s office are life savers. I made the mistake of buying glasses at Daly City Optometry and they did a horrible hack job and acted as if my daughter and I purchased glasses there and needed them fitted. Dr. Holland’s staff was happy to refit our glasses and correct the bad work done by Daly City Optometry.

Dr. Pao was sweet and explained everything she was doing as she examined me. My glasses arrived in 3 business days! They have a large selection of glasses. i’m only giving 3 stars because my husband was completely ignored after his eye exam and it wasn’t until they heard me ask him if he had already picked his glasses that they bothered to help him.

Reiterating what one other reviewer had said: the front desk cares more for one particular ethnic group.
I walked in and was ignored. Stood there like an idiot waiting for someone to acknowledge I was there. Even made eye contact and tried getting their attention. Nope. An older gentleman of that ethnic group walks in. «Oh hello! How are you?! (Starts talking in their language).»
What the heck. Well after HE was addressed I guess they HAD to acknowledge me, right? Yeah, well, the receptionist finally got paperwork for me after she saw the disgusted look on my face that I was giving her and the steam coming out of my nostrils. I had to keep my mouth shut because I would have regretted what would have come out of my mouth.
Oh and I normally order a years worth of contacts. The receptionist gave me 2 boxes since my insurance «only covers 2 boxes.» Yes, I am aware of that, that’s why *I* buy the rest of the years worth!!! I walked away with the two boxes because I didn’t want to spend any more of my money there.

Don’t. Just don’t. I had Dr. PAO. She was nice but she did not explain a lot of things to me.
Customer service is bad as well, you can’t ask for shit without bring asked to pay. Like if your contacts don’t fit right and you want to try a new one.
I could swear I recieved a new prescription for a different brand but lost my copy, they keep denying it. But I was able to buy the said brand 4 freaking times.
I found a new optometrist! So bye!

I paid $ 125 for contact lenses fitting and they gurantee that I can try as much lenses as I need if they don’t give me clear vision. I tried about 4 pairs and none of them is satisfactory. They said I have astigmatism and it’s not possible for any contacts to give me 100%, clear vision. I understand that but those lenses really don’t work. I feel like I will have a car crash if I wear contacts while driving.
And I end up getting nothing after paying $ 125.

Very bad customer services ! All they want is to charge you fee from here and there if you want to change something! I would never come back to this place !

I’ve called a bunch of times to check if I had insurance and everytime they claimed that I didn’t when I in fact did. I had to call up my insurance company myself and clear it up. For some reason, they don’t know that they technically accept San Francisco Health Plan, which is ridiculous. After multiple calls, I finally managed to get an eye exam. The doctors there were quite friendly but the people that work in the front were rude, except for a young Filipino girl with long hair. I got my lens from there and when I received my glasses and tried them on, the Filipino girl with the shoulder length hair just took them and adjusted my frames without even asking them and when I told her that it was too tight, she completely disregarded my comment and told me to go home and see how it fit. I had to go back a second time. When I went, an elderly Filipino lady helped me but for some reason she did not see my industrial piercing on my right ear when I had my glasses on and had my hair lifted. She looked at my right ear and was tugging on it so hard and it irritates my piercing a lot. In the end, she wasn’t really helpful either, because now I plan on going to Target Optical instead to ask them for help with adjusting my frames since I bought them from there. Also, if you’re like me and don’t have an insurance that covers the cost of decent frames (not the ones provided by Medicare) and have to pay out of your own pocket, GO TO TARGET OPTICAL. Their frames are much cheaper. Most decent branded frames were 250+ there. The nicer branded ones are way overpriced. Even for a brand like Ninewest is about 170+ when I could get something like Coach for 200 or under at Target. I bought Raybans from Target Optical and it was $ 156 because the original price was around $ 180 but the lady said there were discounts. The Raybans here are all over $ 200 which is ridiculous (because it’s a boutique). So save your money guys and just go to Target Optical because not only is it not as pricey, but the employees aren’t rude.

I’ve seen Dr Paul Holland for quite long time since 1989, and her Senior Receptionist Mila is one of the best! They both know what’s best for you but there’s one guy and a few younger one are not efficient and courteous In fact I went there couple time recently to ask for a free sample eye drop and to repair my eye glasses were told that I should make appointment to see Dr Holland first before they can do anything about it. Mila was on vacation on those two incidents After the 2^nd incident I didn’t go back anymore and I am shopping for another competent Optometrist. I hope Dr Holland and Mila see this review.

The ladies here are very caring. I came here today to pick up my glasses and one of them attended to me right away as soon as they saw me. Even though she couldn’t adjust my glasses because she didn’t know how, she made sure to ask someone who knew how to do it for her.

When I went in to get my glasses. The older ladies are very helpful and very knowledgeable. The «WOMEN» were all very professional. However there is a young girl there that is very rude and unprofessional. She makes that business look bad. She also is not welcoming and didn’t show any concern or empathy to the fact that I had waited for my glasses for 3 weeks. Every time I called to see if my glasses were ready she would rush me on the phone and give me all kinds of reasons and excuses showing no concern about the fact that I had been waiting and needing my glasses. She always sounded like she could care less, and never even tried to give me a type of genuine assurance that she would try her best to check up on my glasses. The other times I called and the older woman answered they made me feel like they really cared about my frustrations and I could feel that they really cared. As for the young immature girl I spoke with… she is a bad apple. She is the one who makes every one else look bad. It’s obvious by reading the other reviews… that we are all probably talking about the same person. She is immature and very unprofessional.

Dr. Holly Pao is the best! She is the most thorough and caring eye doctor that I’ve ever been to. I’ve seen her two years in a row now and could not imagine anyone better to trust my eyes with. She extremely competent and always willing to take the time to explain things in detail. Definitely someone I would highly recommend.

I have not even been in here but after getting off the phone with their front desk I definitely do not want to give it a try. The lady answering the phone literally just hung up the phone on me because she said she couldn’t figure out the insurance information. I really wanted to give this place a try because of the reviews they have about the doctors but really she was really rude, I’m definitely looking else where.

Receptionist sucks! I made an appointment for 4 people, wife, 2 kids and me. I told her repeatedly (over the phone while I was making the appointment — 2 weeks ago) that the appointment was for 4 people, and that she needed to block out a good chunk of time since this was the kid’s first eye exam. She assured me that she was blocking the extra time. When we now showed up for the appointment, she said she only made an appointment for one! WTF. She said «we can see the rest of the family at 5:45». Seriously! Why would I make an appointment for 4 and wait an hour because she f up on the schedule?
By the way, she stated «I don’t remember you telling me that you needed more than one appointment» after I repeatedly told her that the appointment was for 4 and we may need few appointment slots. Now, She was blaming me instead of apologizing for her mistake? People that knows me could vouch that I have a great memory (to a fault /​photographic memory), AND I had a witness calling to make an appointment for 4 people.
Seeing a doctor (for any reason) is not a fun thing (Everrrrr), and now, we were trying to cheat our way to see a doctor? Seriously? This is not like going to a party or a club, or they are giving away $ to each person they see. Thanks but no thanks. Going to look for another office. Any recommendations?

Great doctors, bad front end staff.

Dr Holland is awesome! I think I’ve seen Dr Holland for at least 8 – 9 years now (I’ve lost track so it may be longer). In any case, he’s seen me through tons of fancy shmancy eyewear/​contacts all the way to helping me get LASIK. If you feel lost about what to pick, look no further than Mila the fashionista to help steer you in the right direction. Dr. Holland’s examinations are incredibly thorough and he’ll gladly explain what questions you may have without having you feel rushed. If you’re lucky, he’ll tell you some great stories (he’s a pilot and also did the swim from Alcatraz in the freezing SF waters!).
And even though I’m seeing ²⁰⁄₁₅ and live in downtown SF, I’ll gladly make the drive to get my yearly eye exam with Dr Holland.

We have been going to see Dr. Shieh or Dr. Holland for many years now. Despite living first at the East Bay and now the South Bay, we still make the trek!
The staff is friendly and caring. They have a great selection for glasses — and I always take advantage of getting a new pair when I can.
Overall, consistent great service.

Located inside Macy’s Serramonte mall, by the purse section & main entrance. The staff are very professional, and friendly. As soon as I entered, right away they greeted me and asked if they can help me. I had an appointment, and Karina took care of me, and got started with my eye exam. Prior to that, I had to fill out a form, and then got down to business.
After the eye exam, which literally took 1 minute, I sat back down, and Dr. Holland called me in. Did more eye tests, and he was super duper funny and bubbly. I joked with him, and he was awesome to give me free trial clear contacts, (for now) since I was blind, and still had to wait for my glasses to come in. He was kind enough to put my contacts on, for me. After meeting with Dr. Holland, the fun part begins! I got to shop and choose from the many frames they had to offer.
Because of my eye insurance, I was only limited from choosing the standard «okay» styles. not really designer name brands, which kinda sucked. Nothing special. Woooo~hooooo! LUCKILY, I actually found one I fell in love with, that l felt confident wearing. =)
The negative: While paying for everything, the woman calculated WRONG! I almost paid a ridiculously massive amount. In total, I only had to pay $ 35! SCORE!!! Good thing I checked her, on it. Damn right, glad she did, because there’s no way I was going to pay THAT much, WITH eye insurance. Freakin’ insane.
Other than that, great experience. I love it here, and would definitely would come back if I need anything when it comes to my vision. Before this place, without insurance, I was paying too damn much at Costco. Boooo! Never again. Dr. Holland it is! :)

Dr. Holland has an excellent team to provide my eye care.
I’ve been coming here for some years now and it’s still worth the drive from San Jose. I’m satisfied with for their expertise and professionalism; plus the women staff are all cute (Yes my glasses were on. Jeez)
I see Dr. Joanne Shieh and if she’s not there, other optometrists will treat you well. They have great respect for you as a customer and you don’t feel rushed (in fact I’ve been late driving down, and it took one phone call to smooth things out)…especially if you’re following a megga time-​table (OK OK I go there just around Christmas time when the mall is exploding, just so I can meet my VSP deadline. Can you blame me?).
Trying to choose frames? Then there’s lots to choose from.
Maybe they can order stuff that’s not there.
Waiting for your appointment? Chill. Go grab some lumpia or something from Seramonte food court and come back.
