The Social House

This past weekend marks probably my 5^th time visiting this location. I would frequent it before I even became a Dallas resident. Yesterday, a large group of us (20+) came for brunch. I’ll break it down below.
Hits: I am definitely a fan of their carafe deal. Benny was a very accommodating manager and made sure to help us out however he could when we were inside. The desserts were absolutely delicious and I would come back again just to eat them. My meal, the chicken and waffle, was great although next time I would put the jalapeño gravy on the side. I’m also appreciative of any place that can host a group of 20+ with grace.
Misses: Apparently, you cannot have the mimosa carafes outside in the back, which defeated the purpose. There is a bar in the back so we were a bit taken aback, but we adjusted and ended up inside eventually. I also believe that they should have given our server, Melanie, one additional person to assist her. She looked overwhelmed and at times she would avoid coming to us. It got to the point that we would have to ask other servers for items because we just wanted silverware /​a drink, etc.

This place is right up my alley. Great for brunch. I got here early before the crowds and sat right down. I strongly recommend the carafe of mimosa to share, dollar refills. Don’t mind if I do.
I had the steak Benedict and it was just perfect. The cheese grits were good too.

The brunch here is prefect for a hangover or if you just want to socialize with friends. The front porch is amazing. You will definitely have a good time in the backyard if the weather is nice. Running around in the giant balls was a lot of fun! I definitely recommend coming here.

I came here on a Saturday with my cousins for a birthday brunch, the food and atmosphere are both great. I had the banana foster French toast and bacon with a side of grits… I ended up sending the grits back because it was only about 3 spoonfuls in the bowl. I asked for a side of the chicken fried chicken with jalapeño gravy instead (I was really hungry). We all ordered a carafe of Mimosas which is $ 9 & you can refill it for $ 1. I wouldn’t order this again because I clearly didn’t drink it all, you can share one for $ 10.
I’m already planning my next visit to this restaurant!

I came here on a Saturday during brunch time. Wanted a place with mimosas. They have this deal where you get a pitcher of mimosas, and you can refill it for $ 1. I made a mistake of ordering two when we only had two people. Should have just done one and get refills. Learned my lesson! But it was still worth it if you don’t refill as well.
Food here was great. Service was great too!
I never had buffalo styled calamaris until this place! Very interesting texture and taste combination! Their steak benedict was also really good too! Highly recommended!~
Ambiance: Plenty of TVs around the place for you to just chill, eat, drink, and watch sports games on TV. I can see this place packed during playoff season.
They have an outdoor area as well. Free street parking if you can find any!

Very nice menu. The bruschetta appetizer was amazing. Wife had grilled chicken sandwich. I had the salmon entrée with a barbecue demi-​glaze sauce on the side with a multi grain wild rice. It was delicious. Great presentation. Enjoyed it very much. Highly recommend it. Is the atmosphere. Casual. Not too formal. Staff was very friendly. Manager stop by circle time to check to make sure that we were enjoying the experience.

per Andy! Fantastic Happy Hour, Fantastic Service from Eric, Fantastic food! We ordered from the appetizer menu and dinner and it was all fabulous!!! We ate the burger sliders which were by far the best in the city, then a pasta dish which was amazing and the meatloaf was so full of flavors alongside greens and mashed potatoes– what more can a girl ask for :)

While I think the food is only worth 3 stars, I bumped it to 4 stars for the atmosphere and insane variety of food and drinks on the menu. I like to think of this place as the uptown, upscale version of Chilis/​TGIF. This place has a little bit of everything on the menu (salads, burgers, pizza, sandwiches, bar food, seafood, all the classic entrees) so there’s definitely something for everyone. The restaurant itself is also really big (and sectioned off with different rooms to prevent it from getting too loud) which makes it especially great for large parties.
They have a really affordable happy hour special (Mon-​Fri 4−7pm) on drinks and food that makes this place particularly great in my opinion. (ie. ½ off cocktails, pizzas, some appetizers, and more wine/​beer/​well specials) They have a ton of drinks to choose from, but a bunch of them are on the sweet/​sugary side. I was actually a fan of their moscow mule so if you don’t want something sweet I would recommend that. The Lychee martini was also nice and fruity without being overly sugary.
If you want to get a bunch of friends together, I would recommend this place. Don’t expect extraordinary food here, but it is super accommodating for bigger groups, affordable, and spacious!

On this particular evening, a group of girlfriends and I decided to get some late dinner and with The Social House being open late and being a trendy location we thought this would be the best location. When walking into the restaurant we waited for a host or someone to come and seat us however after waiting a while and no one coming, we seated ourselves. Which is a absolute inconvenience because this is what the host is supposed to do. After seating ourselves the host then showed up 10 minutes later. I went and asked her could we finally get menus. The host was eating something and couldn’t speak, she just handed us the menu.
Finally we ordered and Kevin was great. He made sure we were accommodated from that point going forward. I ordered the fried pickles which were good. Another girl in our group ordered pizza that she said was really good. An someone else ordered the collard greens and something else. Everyone was please and the drinks were good. FYI please DON“T ask for the Barbecue sauce it is THE WORST BBQ SAUCE I HAVE EVER HAD!!! It will ruin your entire palate. Someone at the table ordered fries and insisted that I try the sauce and it was terrible. Other than that I might give the social house another shot just not on the restaurant side.

Oh my– I read all the tips and reviews– glad I came here.
Free flowing mimosas and bellinis– great selections for food– and loads of TVs which they will change to your game upon request.
Great service — attentive as hell/​and it’s busy.
Amazingly huge patio too! With a car outside as well!
I’m so excited about the magnificence of this place that it almost makes me want to move to Dallas.

Came here to meet up with friends. After being stuck in traffic I was dying for a drink! So I ordered the Moscow mule drink. It was just what the doctor ordered. Now I can finally relax and listen to the gossip with a clear mind :). We all ordered appetizers and everything was pretty good. The happy hour menu was cool and I really enjoyed the spicy wings and pizza. Nothing fancy but after a long day it tasted so good. Maybe it was the alcohol talking. Who knows but I enjoyed the scene, service, food and drinks.

Came here for a friends birthday. We had to wait till the whole party arrived so we went to the backyard which was a pretty amazing backyard! They had giant jenga, big beer pong game set up, foosball. There is a bar outside as well!
Once everyone arrive we were seated quickly. We had a nice quiet reserved arrive with curtains. We had 2 servers 1) Sebastian and the 2^nd man I don’t remember but he was bald. At first both men were taking care of us than later ended up just being the bald gentleman taking care of us.
Food and drinks came out in a timely manner. I ordered the Frozen piña colada which was very good! The boyfriend ordered a couple different beers. I had the seared tuna sandwich which is suppose to be med rare… But when I got the sandwich some parts were med rare majority looked pretty cooked. It was still delicious. My boyfriend got a burger I got what it was called but I think it was something with chorizo, that was also very tasty.
After everyone ate, we had a cake. And we expected our server to give us our checks right away but he had to ask him multiple times. I understand there was like 10 – 12 of us and he had trouble who had what and who’s on what check. I’ve been a server and he should of ask us in the beginning how checks would be split. Manager stepped in to help. Just the end of the process was taking forever. The manager was nice enough to give us a round of drinks on the house!
I will come back to this place but maybe just for drinks.

Pleasantly surprised at how great their happy hour was. I have been here a few times, but it was usually for a quick drink and nothing else. This time, my fiancé and I decided to take advantage of their discounted food and drink from 4 to 7PM last Friday. The deal consisted of 100+ discounted local brews on tap, $ 2 off wine, marked down cocktails and mixed drinks. For dinner we took advantage of a half-​off calamari appetizer (dipped in buffalo sauce served alongside blue cheese dressing) and a $ 6 pizza pie topped with jalapenos, sausage, red onions and pepperoni.
To be honest, the food was medicore. But the awesome service we got from our server combined with the super cheap tab for all that we ordered and the central Uptown location, really bumped our experience up a notch. I recommend this for an after-​work light bites and a few drinks meet up.

Came here for brunch on Sunday and had high hopes. My group had the upstairs level which didn’t look as up to date as the lower level. I ordered the short rib hash, it was really ONE short rib. It was hardly any hash browns. It was like they took one short rib and a pinch of hashbrows and spread it over the plate with BBQ sauce. It was tasty but $ 13.95 for half a cup of a meal! I think not! I don’t ever have to go back to this restaurant. Not to mention the service wasn’t good! I didn’t understand the nice lady sitting on the bathroom, collecting tips, flat iron was plugged up, as if it were a night event going on.
I can’t with this place! Go to another spot instead of this place. I lost some money!

I’ve heard mixed reviews about The Social House so I wasn’t sure what to expect. On this particular day, it was pouring down rain and I didn’t expect many people to be there. Boy was I wrong.
It was very crowded and loud. I guess due to the rain people couldn’t enjoy the patio. So they brought the party inside. When I found my group I was basically yelling to have a conversation.
Our server came to our table very quickly. She was very nice and thorough. She made suggestions and even told us what item to avoid. Thanks!
I decided on the prosciutto and pesto pizza. I was concerned that maybe my pizza would be too salty. To my surprise, my pizza wasn’t overly salty. The caramelized onions plus the pesto cut the saltiness. My two other friends had the crab cakes and the barbacoa pizza. The crab cake was very fresh. It really tasted like Maryland style crab cakes. I was glad she was willing to share because I wouldn’t have. Ha! The barbacoa pizza was little too spicy for my liking. However, the flavor was really good.
This place is more like a pub than a restaurant. The crowd on this night was more mid 20s. We felt like we were the oldest people there. LOL! Hell we aren’t that old ourselves. I could easily come back for Happy Hour with friends. However, it’s not on the top of my «I just have to go back» list.

Perfect outdoor activities for an afternoon with friends and great weather. Tons of room so it doesn’t feel too crowded, but service was pretty slow. Also, I wasn’t a big fan of the fact that the outdoor bar didn’t have as extensive of a drink menu and you had to run all the way around to the main entrance to order a beer/​drink they may not have outside.
Overall, fun though and worth a try!

This place is a ‘hot spot’ without a doubt. Upon walking up to the entrance for the first time, I ran into Cowboys’ WR Terrance Williams! I knew The Social House was the joint to visit, however the price concerned me if a NFL player was leaving…
To be honest, the prices are quite reasonable for them being situated in Uptown. The fried pickles are amazing, as well as the mixed drinks (Mad Men). I will definitely be back here.

…I came with a Unilocal $ 40 for $ 20 coupon, and totally still got good service.
…This was my first visit, so I’m totally ready to review Social House.
…Boom! — This place was the nom-​bomb.
…I really wanted to like this place — and I DID!
…I’m a human, so I’m an expert on what good human food is, and this is good food for humans.
Annoying cliches aside, Social House has just about everything you could want in an Uptown restaurant /​bar. It has plenty of space (more indoor than outdoor, but the patio is very nice) so it’s good for groups and can handle its own popularity. It somehow manages to feel like an upscale sports bar, and still like a homey pub.
It has a great menu, both beverages and food. And, obviously, it’s all about brunch. But don’t write them off your list for dinner because we’ve had the most fantastic medium rare filet that my husband can’t stop talking about still.
Service has always been fantastic, their brunch menu doesn’t disappoint, their mimosa and bloody mary specials are fantastic — and the Stout Blood Mary… or whichever one is served spicy and covered in bacon is, honestly, one of the best I’ve ever had. I brought my brother and sister-​in-​law here during their last visit — We went on a Saturday and they loved it so much we came back Sunday.
Altogether, we’ve had:
Crab Cake sandwich — which is very good, very different. Ask them to cook the crab cake until crisp to avoid any mushiness once it’s in the sandwich!
The Filet at dinner — cooked to tender perfection and served with extremely flavorful port wine demi.
Bruschetta which my husband and I both agreed was the best we’ve ever had — perfect crisped bruschetta, robust red tomatoes, lovely fresh mozzarella and rich balsamic vinegar. *Muah*
The Guinness Braised Short Rib Hash — I just started drooling. It’s a hash, so it has that comfort food feel to it, the short rib is deep and tender, and Hollandaise is the perfect buttery compliment to the dish. It’s bowl of breakfast yumminess and definitely a hangover’s kindest friend.
The Belgian Waffle — if you do bring a kid with you, I recommend this puppy. Also, I don’t recommend bringing a kid here, it’s definitely an adult environment… but we’ve had fine experiences bringing our daughter.
The Beignets with Jelly — Also perfect for the kids… or to make you feel like a kid at breakfast. These are perfect little dippers and light and yummy!
Pulled Pork Tacos — Perfection.
Fried Oysters — Our server told us they were popular. She dropped them on the table, went to get something and was back in probably 2 minutes. They were gone.
The menu is really extensive here with some creative and appealing options so I’ll have to keep coming back until I’ve tried everything! I usually judge a place on its burger in the first few visits… but now suddenly the Texas Shrimp & Grits are calling my name.

Absolute worst service ever.
So, we decided to come here after a Dallas Unilocal event to grab some grub– plus one of the people in my party had a gift card as a service recovery from a bad experience prior– and she was willing to give them another shot so we all scurried over.
Parking really sucks– you basically have to find a spot on a residential street and try not to block anyone in– reminds me of a few places off Magnolia in funky town. We were also in separate cars, and it was dark, which didn’t help the situation. I noticed they had valet– but the station was unmanned, so it didn’t really matter. The patio was almost empty– one table of three had the whole space to themselves. We would have opted for unenthusiastic hostess that just sighed when we asked for a table. Down a Star for the first impression.
The inside was quiet– no tables except the people snuggled up to the bar. We were seated in a big fluffy booth overlooking the entire dining area. I love booths– so all three of us snuggled into the middle. The server actually came over pretty quickly, took our drink and food order– as we had already decided to just share a bunch of appetizers. We ordered Irish Nachos, Buffalo Calamari, Ahi Tuna and Angry Shrimp. I was actually surprised that I liked the Angry Shrimp the most– its super spicy. Grilled and seasoned perfectly floating in an equally spicy sauce with crusty grilled bread. I wasn’t a fan of the tuna– it was bland to me. Like Lyn said– how do you make Irish nachos with no friggin cheese? that should be illegal. the Calamari was also good– not over cooked and lightly battered.
So as we all happily munched on the food– none of us noticed the server had not been by since she took our order. She wasn’t the one that brought out the food– and had the order been wrong we would have been sitting there letting it get cold. We ran out of water and our only round of drinks was gone quickly. There wasn’t even a busy boy, or anyone besides the bartenders on the other side of the room. We sat for over 45 minutes until we went outside to ask the hostess to find our server so we could pay. The rude hostess brought us our check– we sat another 30 minutes waiting for the server to take the payment. Lucky for us we had a gift card so we just left. I have never had to wait so long for anything!
Maybe it was our fault for deciding to do the right thing and actually wait– we were obviously not a priority. I can see why it was so empty and all the smart people sat at the bar so they would actually be served.

The Social House was by far one of the most disappointing turn of events in the few months I’ve lived in Dallas. Since I’ve moved here I’ve been to The Social House for a variety of events from Happy Hours and Brunches, but I’ve been very concerned about my last visit and perturbed by the response.
After one pleasant brunch experience, I decided to return to The Social House with a different group of friends. It was on this occasion that we ended up with food poisoning. Half our group ended up vomiting by the end of the night and we lost an entire Sunday. At first we thought it might have been an overdose of mimosas until we’d heard that our friends who didn’t drink had gotten sick as well.
We called back the next day to warn them about what happened (in case other patrons called in sick), and we were quickly dismissed and even hung up on. In my opinion a highly offensive and downright dangerous response to a potentially huge problem.
So please, if you run into similar problems with food poisoning make sure you report your case as well to
to prevent future incidents.
