We had the bacon wrapped meatloaf, Mac and cheese, trio of dips, and specialty margarita. All very excellent — this place is a true 5 star to me. Will definitely be coming back soon!

Maybe because I am not from Texas? Maybe because I did not grow up on Southern Food? Who knows why, but the food here was not only poor, it was a highway ripoff for the price. I gave them two stars because Steven Pyle visited our table and the environment was cool. But do we eat to be cool? Problems: 1) the amazing margaritas are actually complete and total heart burn inducing sugar bombs. yek 2) the waiter had a mouthful of marbles and i couldn’t understand a word of what he was saying 3) the chicken fried buffalo steak was actually breaded with a roof of the mouth tearing impenetrable fortress of breading(more like concrete). in fact, it could have been fish, beef or buffalo and i would have never known b/c the concrete casing overwhelemed everythgin else about the meal 4) the dessert was a cobbler that was 90+% breading. what is it with this place and the breading? Good: Well the biscuits were yummy… but every part of my meal was a face plant. I have to assume this is for the uneducated palate, who wants to pay too much for a Cracker Barrel meal.

I came here for a date a few nights ago & I loved it. Great ambiance in the restaurant. The service was excellent. Our waiter was very friendly & personable. He was very knowledgable of the menu and was a big help because sometimes I can be indecisive(I’m a woman… what else is new?) I decided on the bacon wrapped meatloaf and mac n cheese and was not disappointed. SO delicious. I will definitely be coming back soon!

This was my first dining experience in Dallas. So it will always hold a special place in my food adventures. Love the layout, décor and ambiance. The high-back booths make it unique. It gives a table privacy, but you can still have a feel for the fast-paced hustle and bustle of the place. Dinner was decent but nothing to write home about. Yay — Honey-Fried Chicken(But you already knew that didn’t you? Just get it.) Ok — Hell’s Eggs — Trio of Dips — Butterscotch Pudding — Warm Brownie Nay — Braised Beef Short Ribs — Too fatty and under seasoned for me. I think the veggies on the plate were my favorite part. Also, it’s easy to get confused going to the bathroom. If you’re a female and see a naked cowboy on the wall, you walked into the right restroom. You’re welcome.

Visited Dallas for the cotton bowl recently and made reservations for this restaurant on a recommendation from a friend. We received fabulous service from the waitstaff. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. The food was absolutely out of this world. I cannot recall when food tasted so good. I had the pleasure of eating the bacon wrapped meatloaf and also sampling the quail as well as the fried chicken from the people I was with. You cannot go wrong on this menu. Top to bottom one of the best restaurant experiences I’ve ever had.

I love Stephen Pyles in Dallas and I finally got to try Stampede 66 in Uptown today. Soooo good!!! Working lunch and we both got the brisket with potato salad. It came with an awesome sauce and homemade pickles. We ordered the deviled eggs as an app and had the Dr Pepper Snickers dessert. Everything was awesome, service great and the restaurant itself is just really cool. I want to take my husband here soon!!!

Between 3 and 4 stars, but given the price, I’ll go with 3. Drink prices don’t match up with food prices and being in the restaurant business myself, I hate that. I don’t want to have to spend $ 14 on a drink to go with my $ 16 meal. I have no problem spending $ 14 on a drink at an upscale restaurant where the service and atmosphere are worth it and when my $ 20something meal is worth it. I got tamales and a taco after my wife and I split the cornbread. The tamales were borderline perfect. The rest of my meal was average. The atmosphere is really cool with lots of Western décor. The place is big and accepts reservations(which you’ll need on the weekend). Despite being being and accommodating a lot of groups of all sizes, it’s not too loud, so that was nice. Service was good. Multiple people checked up on us so we were well-taken care of. I’d probably go again for lunch, when I’m not in the mood for a nice drink to unwind from the week.

One of the BEST margaritas I’ve EVER had! No lie. The Prickly Pear Margarita, Modern Star Canyon Margarita really. First of all, it’s made tableside. You can watch the magic. And it’s really like a LIVE science experiment. This is genius, it’s the best way to make a margarita… with liquid nitrogen! It was so cool, so quick and tasted amazing. Placed in a cup for a Queen, topped with homemade whipped cream and candied jalapenos. They give you, what I call, a Spraw lol… a spoon and a straw. You can eat it like a pre-dinner dessert or sip it like a regular margarita. The vibrant magenta color was beautiful, not a watery taste at all, nothing but flavor. It’s definitely something that I would get every visit. I love how innovative this place is. You get the modern, Texas, western feel with the décor, but when it comes to their food, it’s a twist to down home, country Southern cooking. My parents kept telling me about this bread that they ordered when they went, Shiner Bock Beer Bread. It’s fresh, hot bread, served in a Shiner Bock Beer can. I think it was pre-sliced for us, served with soft, creamy butter. Every bite I took, I closed my eyes. It was SOGOOD! I wanted to order another one for the table, but that would’ve been too greedy. But believe you, me… order that bread when you go!

Had dinner here for a birthday(not mine). The duck breast/confit on mashed potatoes was very good, but slightly over cooked. My date had chicken fried buffalo steak which was delicious and HUGE. That was great. The drinks were good, they know what they’re doing here, but of course, it’s a bit pricey. Overall for a relatively fancy dinner but my all the way fine dining, it’s s good stop.

Stampede 66 is an upscale restaurant which features a menu with a modern take on Texas cuisine. I was fortunate enough to go a work lunch here so I was able to sample a few of their appetizers. After seeing that it was affiliated with Stephen Pyles, my expectations grew. After glancing over the menu, we ordered hell’s eggs(their take on deviled eggs), shiner bread, and their dip sampler. The appetizers were admittedly, very average. The hell’s eggs were beautifully presented, but just did not have the flavor I was expecting. The filling was very mousse-y, so I thought it lacked in texture. The Shiner bread was again, beautifully presented, but was also sub-par. The bread is cooked in an empty shiner can, taken out just before it’s done so it can be sliced, then finished in the oven inside the can. When it gets to the table, a quick flick of the wrist makes the bread just drop from the can. Very creative and fun to see, but I found the bread very underwhelming. It was quite dense, and not in a good way. The final appetizer we got, the trio of dips, was fine in the flavor category, but was a very small portion. The bean dip and guacamole were just ok(the guac could have used more texture), but the pimento queso was on point! I just wish there was more of it. They are served in a very shallow cast iron tray, which made it difficult to dip our chips in. For my entrée, I ordered the spiced venison taco salad. It was a very large salad, and could feed two people if you feel like sharing. The venison, true to it’s name, was well spiced and had a good kick to it. The dressing was a little heavy, but I still enjoyed it. My only complaint would be that there were entirely way too many tortilla strips. Instead of being served in a traditional, fried taco shell, this salad came with a lot of tortilla strips already in the salad. This provided a nice crunch factor and made for a nice presentation, but by the end, it was too much. In the end, I thought the food could have been a lot better for the type of establishment this place is. However, a good ambiance, service, and presentation go a long way, so they still get passing marks. That said, I probably won’t return unless it’s during happy hour or another work lunch.

We came here before a concert. I had the Tomahawk Pork Chop and Pork Belly Taco. The Pork Belly Taco was good. The flavors were well balanced. The most memorable part of the meal was the Tomahawk Pork Chop. It was amazing! It was perfectly cooked. It had a nice crust and smoky taste. The Texas Caviar, apples and brandy butter went well with the pork chop. The service was great. Everyone was friendly and attentive. I liked the ambiance. It has a modern cowboy appearance. It would be a great place to bring out-of-town guests.

For me there are a few meat dishes that determine a good restaurant. One of them is Pork Chops. The Tomahawk Pork Chop from Stampede 66 was a religious experience. It was perfectly cooked with a delicious sear on top. The Apples and Brandy butter sauce was so smooth and delicious. It came with a side order of beans in a slaw mix and it was the perfect side dish to cut down the meat and freshen the pallet. On the side we ordered the Pork Belly Taco and it too was awesome. I can’t wait to eat here again. This place was an easy 5⁄5. The server was great too as he wasn’t overly attentive but out glasses were always full. The ambiance is very interesting here with a modern cowboy feel and the TV screen had some really funny Texas related quotes scrolling. Everything I saw coming out of the kitchen looked and smelled good.

So disappointing!!! I’ve had this placed bookmarked on Unilocal to take out-of-town guests. I’ve visited and enjoyed all of Stephen Pyles other restaurants so my hopes were high. My mom was in town this weekend. I don’t see her often as she lives on the other side of the US so I always try to find cool restaurants to take her to and thought this would be fun! This was our entire table’s first time here. We had several questions about the menu. While asking the server a few, he cut us off and said they were going to be really busy tonight so we need to get our order in right away. WOW! So we ordered the Shiner Bock beer bread. $ 6 for four dense hockey pucks that fit into a beer can. Flavor wasn’t terrible but that’s a LOT of money for a quick bread! They took my mom’s plate out from under her bread while she was eating because the meals were on their way. WOW #2! We had only placed the order 5 minutes prior. Soon the FOH manager greeted the table and I mentioned we felt very rushed. He didn’t seem to care. He walked away unconcerned. The main course: I literally thought they messed up when my dinner came with two(2) tator tots. Is this a joke? Did they forget them? Or run out? NOPE! That’s how they portion food here. Shame on Stephen Pyles! I expect waaaay better from you! Our waiter, who rushed us the entire time, never explained that the sides were al a carte, we had to keep ordering food. So I ordered more tator tots. Guess how many came in that order? FOUR! They are $ 1.00 each! Gimme a break. Never again! Not even for the guy on the bathroom wall! Fried chicken: undercooked. Tator Tots: more expensive then diamonds. Biscuits: hard and dry. Shiner Bread: dense, dry and pricey. Big Texan dessert: Delicious but the $ 10 pecan cake was about 3 bites and it was hidden under a PYLE of inexpensive meringue.

My friend and I came here a while back and it was a solid 4 stars. We arrived to our table and had to wait a while until a manager came up because our waiter was stuck at a huge table, which wasn’t a huge deal since it was a busy weekend night. The food was extremely good as we had a couple different tamales and both got the buffalo chicken fried steak, which was awesome. Throw in a few cocktails and the Cobbler for desert, which was kind of runny but still pretty good. Would have been 5 stars if faster service and our waiter was a little misunderstanding at times. Will visit again soon.

Love Stampede 66. It definitely has an over the top ridiculous caricature of Texas atmosphere and feel to it, but there are enough generic restaurants around, I think it is fun to have something different. The food is really good. I also think it is getting better over time. When we went there years ago when they opened I didn’t think it was as good as when we went last month. Good service as well. I am pretty sure Stephan Pyles wins my vote for best chef in Dallas.(I say that because I can say Tim Love is in Fort Worth)

That’s one hell of a BBQ brisket you have there chef. Tender enough to be cut with a fork, while still being meaty and full. Accompanied with a terrific BBQ sauce. Best brisket I had in years. The honey fried chicken here was also terrific, just as the chicken adobo tamales. Both were still moist and succulent inside. And that tomato sauce with the tamales — just awesome. Decent wine list here as well. You can ask for their recommendations as they know what they are doing. You can’t really go wrong here, especially if you finish off with that amazing butterscotch pudding(pot o’ crème).

Fabulous! Never disappoints! This time we were seated in the inner room, intimate the evening makes! Started off in ordering our favorite starters with our friends: margaritas-Shiner bread-faux gras mouser, jalapeño jelly-fried oyster tacos-wild boar tamales-watermelon salad! All made with perfection with intricate and decadent surprises in elevating each dish! We then each ordered our own entrée: mine was the ribeye seared and cooked perfectly to my specification! ‘Yum’ ‘wow’ ‘delicious’ ‘oooo’ was our conversation! Portions was just perfect to our liking — having room to top off with the butterscotch and cobbler for dessert! Love, love, love Stampede66!

I’ve been here twice – once for a business dinner, and once for a dinner date. I really enjoyed it both times. It’s a high-end take on Texas cuisine. I highly recommend the Shiner bread, the quail entrée, the tomahawk pork chop, and the brisket. All delicious. I also suggest ordering some nice Texas wine(Becker Malbec is good, but the menu offers several) to round out the experience. I’m not a huge cobbler fan, but both the berry and the peach cobbler are delicious. In terms of «ok, not great» I’d mention: the deviled eggs, the dip trio, the Texas cheese plate, the Mexican cornbread. They’re fine but you could get the same thing cheaper at many local alternatives. The ambience and service are great. This is a fabulous option for entertaining out of town guests or just celebrating local heritage. I would suggest leaving the kids at home based on price point and atmosphere.

Stephan Pyles’ Modern Texas Cuisine Atmosphere: Big Restaurant. Texas/“Wild West”/Outdoorsy Decorations. They offer complimentary valet which made it very convenient for getting to the restaurant. Hostess was very welcoming and seated us promptly. Food: I ordered a variety of items from the menu including: –Mexican Cornbread –Beef Brisket Tacos –Bacon Wrapped Meatloaf –Honey Fried Chicken –Warm Brownie Nothing was overly impressive in regards to taste. Very heavy food. Portion sizes were smaller than I expected relative to the pricing of each dish. Overall, I was very underwhelmed from the entire meal, which is unfortunate since I enjoyed San Salvaje and the Stephan Pyles flagship restaurant. Service: Standard. Menu was well-explained. Offered genuine recommendations on both drinks and food dishes. Would I come here again? I would prefer to go to Stephan Pyles other restaurants.
