Kettle Art is a wonderful little gallery I happened to chance into while enjoying an unseasonably warm February day in Deep Ellum, and I’m glad I did. Amidst the hustle and bustle of food, drink, and shopping, you can duck into Kettle and enjoy contemporary art from Dallas locals. There’s 2 large rooms you can enjoy looking at all that’s hanging on the walls. The gallery has a very open and airy feel to it which I enjoyed. Although I did not buy anything, I’d love to come back here if I ever come into enough money to justify buying a lovely art piece(vs. bills. #adultlifeislame). But either way, thanks, Kettle, for the fun stop on my visit to Deep Ellum!

I love Kettle. It’s the kind of place where art is good and unpretentious. Anyone should feel welcome there. Frank and Paula always explain who’s who and what’s what without making you feel intimidated by art. Great pieces.

«Anybody can get a show at Kettle Art.» my friend whined with the comic edge of a cartoon operatic playfulness as he descended the scale. I imagined the amateurish shows of banal borrowed images in bright slightly unharmonious eye catching colors. I had only been there briefly once before and remembered the grass roots feeling, but forgot if it felt like a cheap street art carnival with an urban penchant. I was wrong. Besides being in a beautiful space on Main, not only is the art reminiscent of a pop aesthetic you might find in modern day Soho or Williamsburg, the prices are shockingly inexpensive, with medium sized, technically well produced art work going for around $ 300. This Modern pop art style can seem reductive and decorative. In soho you might see appropriated images of celebrities in candy colors, derivative of the one dimensional Grafitti artist Brain Freeze or graffiti looking paintings with primitive childlike drawings and words written and then crossed out copying a signature motif of Basquiat. Here a well produced painting of repeated stenciled images of Donald Trump wearing a swastika band on his upper arm with«mein» and«trump» framing him in a mock political ad. Trite can be fun, and some, unlike me, find a pleasing ironic depth in the superficial. But the art got better, the best being prolific cartoony panels or finely detailed illustrative paintings. One painting showed an everyday man connected to another silhouette of a dark manlike figure comprised of veins and arteries having a connection at a table. They shared the same arm. The more«human» image raised a saw at the point of connection where the arm joined. The artery monster sat in dismay, the human looked quietly irritated. In the background windows opened up to a lush magical Boschian landscape of arterial trees and gardens. It was priced surprisingly reasonably. There were in fact several pieces of art I would be delighted to have hanging in my house. The artists showing here might not be «names» in the Dallas art scene, but you can imagine that one day, one or two of the artists represented might rise to commercial success. Kettle Art doesn’t have a typical pretentious atmosphere that you find in an upscale sterile gallery with an emphasis on white walls. Instead, it’s focus on illustrative cartoon work breathes a distinct gold breath into the grid work of Dallas’ growing art scene. Deep Ellum Open at night, pairs well with a pre or post drinking session.

Not only is this place a fantastic gallery showcasing emerging artists but its also local hub and artistic staple of the neighborhood. I have yet to go to an opening at another place that is a warm and welcoming as the people that I have encountered at Kettle. Great art from amazing artists, reasonable prices, fun events, and community minded. A destination point that shouldn’t be overlooked.

A staple of Deep Ellum, there’s always something brewing at Kettle! Whether you’re looking to buy art, sell art, learn about art, or just have a good time with some friendly and creative folks, Kettle Art is a great place for all of the above. You’ll find a wide variety of art from local emerging and established artists, most of which is very affordable… and there’s never a shortage of entertaining conversation.

The best variety of Texas artists I have ever seen in one gallery. Reasonable pricing with a very welcoming atmosphere. Every show is different, with something new to experience almost every month. I suggest stopping in on a Thursday night to be apart of a show opening, lots of new people to meet.

This place has the best local artists at a price that won’t break the bank. I have something from here in every room of my house. The owners are wonderful and this is always a great spot to be. The openings are a lot of fun, and a great place to take a date. It’s always a comfortable environment, never stuffy or pretentious like some other art spaces. I really can’t say enough good things about this place.

Love, love, love this gallery! After hearing great things about it for a while now, I finally had the chance to visit for the first time recently. My only question is: what took me so long? Let me tell you, if you’re looking for some beautiful art, but your budget is small, you are going to get a lot of bang for your buck here. I picked up a really nice larger piece of art for around $ 100 and three smaller pieces for $ 40. $ 40 for original art! It brings a whole new meaning to Christmas in July for me! One of the best things is that they only represent local artists, and apparently that’s one reason that people love this place so much. The lady behind the counter told me that they are celebrating their tenth year this year with lots of special events, so you can bet that I will be watching for those. They are also very knowledgeable about the neighborhood, which was really helpful since I don’t usually visit Deep Ellum. But I will now! And they do a wine walk every month! All I can say is that Kettle Art lived up to it’s reputation, and then some. I can’t wait to come back!

Great gallery with affordable art this is an update to my previous review. I’m taking a star back because this is the 4th time we have came and we have not been acknowledged I would have loved to buy a piece they had during an art event for 100 bucks very affordable but never had anyone attempt to ask. If I needed any help. The staff look to busy conversing among friends which is fine but I felt left out and isolated. Still a great gallery with local artist and a great addition to Deep Ellum.
