Yo Ku Mon

Quick and cheap deserts. Very satisfying. Very confused by what the name is supposed to mean. Yo Cool mon?

I came here again with my two kids and I think they got the right temp in the freezer now. The ice cream was the perfect consistency for an ice cream sandwich. My kids exact words were, «mom, this is the BEST dessert place! Thank you for bringing us here!» We ate a few of those sugar cookies… so good…

Cookies are soft and chewy, ice cream is pretty good, buuut hygiene people! Guy used same gloves to make ice cream sandwiches, which requires the whole palm to squish the cookies together, and handle cash. Same gloves for the customers before us and after us.
Scoop of ice cream is a bit small, compared to diddy Reese, but for $ 2 it’s good enough.
Will come back but will ask for change of gloves if I see them touch money

If our you I would stay away from this place because the old white guy that was always in there is the rudest person I’ve ever come across! Boy if he’s the owner I hope he goes out of business real quick. I work in the shopping center and I will make sure that all of my coworkers know not to do business with him. This is the second time I’ve given him a chance to be nice but he’s just so ignorant and racist! FYI the customer is always right and if I’m paying for something then I better get exactly what I want, I wanted cookie dough ice cream and the bin was completely empty and he said that he can scrub some more off the edges. I asked if he had more he said yes but I’m not taking it out he said maybe you should get cookies and cream. If I wanted your opinion you moron I would’ve asked for it! Rude!

Comparing this to Diddy Reese is a bit of a stretch. The selection is limited and the display case is dreary. The place doesn’t look exactly up to health /​hygiene code, though there was an Inspector there during my visit (either this is ironic or a good sign for improvements in the future.)

This place is like a jack of all trades but master of none. My date wanted coffee and I wanted tea so he went in the door with a big banner that read IMC BEST COFFEE IN LA or something like that and I went into Yo Ku Mon. Turns out they are the same store.
The worker was sitting down at a table on the other side of the room and wasn’t attentive to any of the other customers in the café part.
This review is only for the café side, not the dessert and ice cream part. The coffee was not the best, it was just alright and the iced tea I ordered was nothing special either.
I think it was because I was expecting a boba spot or lots of specialty coffees that I was disappointed but I’ll have to try part 2 next time.

At first, this Yo Ku Mon was excellent fun, not the greatest quality but for the price it was right on target. However, on our most recent visit, the quality and more importantly the care have slipped while the price has increased — it’s not expensive, but it’s not cheap either anymore.

The shaved ice is too chunky… not the fluffy, snow experience I expect from shaved ice vendors. The cookies and ice cream sandwich was pretty gross… the cookies were too crunchy, so it was really messy to eat. The cookies kept breaking and squishing the ice cream together.
My friend and I came here really late at night… we thought it was closed because the lights were mostly off and we couldn’t see anyone inside. But it was actually open – the worker was in a back room and only came out when we started saying «Hello?»

I really enjoyed my sandwich and I like that I can take the kids here and get a cup of coffee, too.

What a dump!
Dark inside with no one working.
Some old lady reading a paper in the corner, don’t think she worked there.
Ice cream looks generic, old and unappealing, as do the tiny cookies.
We stood there for a good 5 minutes waiting and deciding what and if we should bother getting anything and finally walked out.
Nice idea, would have loved to get us all ice cream sammies, but their loss, not ours, too many great other options in the area.

Check-​In when you check out Yo Ku Mon Dessert Lounge for a $ 4 fresh-​made Ice Cream Sandwich and Soda. (Used to be $ 3) With regular ice cream cookie sandwiches costing $ 3 normally, getting a bottle of soda or water for a buck extra is alright.
Of course, the funnest part of a place like Yo Ku Mon is picking and choosing which 2 cookies to pair with an ice cream. Be creative and get what you wish. It’s your ice cream sandwich.

My masterpiece was a Red Velvet Cookie and White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cookie with Butter Pecan Ice Cream. The huge sandwich was almost too big to eat by hand … so a spoon helped get me started. I’m such a sucker for cookies and ice cream. Loved it.
Besides ice cream and cookies, Yo Ku Mon also sells cakes and other desserts. The small shop is connected (like literally via a short hallway) with Island Monarch Coffee shop and apparently staff work both counters. The guy from the coffee shop who helped me was friendly and quick.
Yo Ku Mon may not be the cheapest or most unique ice cream sandwich shop on the Westside, but it is convenient, has free parking, and offers a great Unilocal Check-​in deal that’s hard to pass up.
Ya Mon, I’m a fan of Yo Ku Mon.

I found out they increased the price of their ice cream sandwich from $ 2 to $ 3 which I think is now overpriced (single scoop is $ 2 without cookies… we could just drive down another block and pick up the same Thrifty ice cream at Rite-​Aid for cheaper). I also have a Unilocal check-​in special in my app and the lady who worked there didn’t know about it so she didn’t honor the special despite my showing her the special on my phone. She had to call the owner about it but couldn’t reach him. We don’t think we will be coming back. I’m disappointed to see this neighborhood shop going on a decline.

It’s great that this place is located in Culver City and that they’re relatively cheap but it’s certainly a case of getting what you paid for. For $ 2 you get an ice cream sandwich with a so-​so cookie and so-​so ice cream. I’m not sure it’s better than a packaged ice cream sandwich from the market. The décor inside aims for club chic. You’re lucky if you can find a seat that doesn’t have disco lights flashing you in the eyes. I doubt this place will last for too long as it’s frequently empty. However, I’d recommend it for an ice cream fix when you’re low on cash.

Stopped by here to try their ice cream cookie sandwiches. The price is $ 2 plus tax. There were about 12? different kinds of cookies to select from.
We chose red velvet cookie with vanilla flavored ice cream and chocolate chip cookie with mint chocolate ice cream. Both were quite delicious. I didn’t think the ice cream selection was that good. Wish there were more variety.
Seating was limited but I heard you can go to the coffee shop next door.
The place is a bit tucked in a corner of the plaza.

I was in Palo Alto this summer and saw a huge line in front of an ice cream sandwich store… ok lots of college kids looking for a cheap dessert .same thing at Diddy Reese in Westwood-​huge lines. Well, Culver City has it’s own version-​Yo Ku Mon… delicious made to order ice cream sandwiches, but no lines! Hits the spot every time, and I can just relax and enjoy one hassle-​free!

I have one of those silly little Belly cards, and when looking up what businesses utilize them, this one came up. As a fan of both cookies and ice cream, I was delighted and so my preschooler and I set off to investigate.
$ 2 is a pretty awesome price for what you receive there. Their primary menu item seems to be a cookie-​ice cream sandwich hybrid (as is still the trend). I was excited by the Belgian waffles in their cookie selection/​collection, though I decided not to indulge.
My son got a chocolate ice cream+m&m cookie, and I got a butter pecan+white choc mac-​nut one. The cookies were pretty standard grade, and the ice cream didn’t seem especially extravagant, but the combinations were yummy. Considering the price and how full we were from these treats, I’d say pay a visit and indulge your sweet tooth (and then go next door and get some bomb coffee to prevent sleeping off the calorie coma).
TLDR; Yummy and affordable to the max.

First off I’m not a fan of Diddy Reise! I think that place is only popular bc it’s cheap! Any who, I thought this place was fine for the area and location. I’m a big fan of cool haus but when I’m at this part of town, this will handle my ice cream cookie craving!
Workers are very friendly and I like that there is different stations for ordering ice cream, smoothies and coffee!

Came here last night for some dessert. I had an ice cream sandwich with vanilla ice cream and double chocolate chip cookies while the husband got his with chocolate chip cookies and a coffee chip ice cream.
The ice cream was so-​so and the cookies got pretty stiff with the ice cream. However, the cookies alone were nice and soft. The cinnamon cookie, in particular, was delicious! I’ll definitely be back for some cookies. If they get some better ice cream I think the ice cream sandwiches could be much better.
This is a convenient option (compared to Diddy Riese) because there’s parking and no long lines. It’s more expensive ($ 2 for an ice cream sandwich), but that’s not a bad price for dessert. It’s also much cheaper than cool haus.
Overall it was a-​ok. I’ll be back for the cookies =)
EDIT: Spoke to the owner, Jason, and he said their ice cream is Dreyer’s (same that they use for Diddy Riese). He also said that they’ve been working on the cooking time for the cookies so that they stay soft even when paired with ice cream. If they can get that down, this place will do very well.

Let’s be honest — this place is no Diddy Riese. Diddy Riese will always be the king of ice cream cookie sandwiches in my heart.
Yokumon is dimly lit, so I actually thought it was closed when I stopped by around 8:30PM on a Monday night. I got the oatmeal raisin cookies (my fave cookie) with peanut butter ice cream (my fave ice cream). The cookies were WAY too sweet and cinnamon-​y! The ice cream was good but I think it’s because they use Dreyer’s ice cream, so you can’t really go wrong with that. The cookies are also quite soft, and smaller than Diddy Riese’s. The only pro is that you can actually eat the ice cream cookie sandwich as its meant to be eaten! Diddy Riese tends to fall apart because they pack it full of ice cream and the cookies are not as soft.
Yokumon isn’t bad, but they’re a little more expensive, cookies aren’t great, and you get less. The store does have some seating inside though.
