Mateo’s definitely has the best Mexican ice cream in West LA. No doubt about that. But, have you ever tried their food and juices? They are to die for! For starters, I love their healthy ingredients. Everything tastes so fresh! I can almost feel the nourishment whenever I order one of their juices or fruit salads. My favorites are the green juice and the Bionico fruit salad. As for sandwiches, I always go for the cheese and beans which is made with authentic Mexican quesillo(Oaxaca string cheese). The flavors at Mateo’s are as colorful as their décor. I have been a huge fan for many years and will continue to visit them as much as possible!

Looooookin’ for paletas to satisfy your cravings for creamiscles and fresh fruit taste? Come on down… if you don’t eat dairy, they have regular fruit pops too! Easy lot to park in, might be crowded tho depending on when you go.

Have a couple of friends who kept recommending this spot and finally gave it a try! Mateo’s is in Culver City on Sepulveda Blvd in a small shopping center. The store is sitting in the far left corner so it’s fairly easy to find. The lady that helped us was very nice and explained all the different options of ice cream, popsicles and other menu items they have. Since it was my first time, I chose about 5 different flavored popsicles: arroz con leche, coconut, vanilla, strawberry in milk(not the watery flavored), and walnut. I thought they were all good, flavorful and sweet! My favorite one was the strawberry which had actually pieces of strawberries in every bite! My least favorite one had to be the walnut one since it tasted a bit plain to me, not sweet enough. Each came up to about $ 2.25 which isn’t bad at all! I’m definitely gonna come back for another strawberry popsicle, and to try out the rest of their menu items!

They really have some unique flavors here like smoked milk, and soursop. I really liked the chocolate rimmed waffle bowls with sprinkles. This is a great little neighborhood ice cream shop with a great atmosphere.

BEWAREFOUND A HUGEHAIRINMYCHOCOBANANO&GOTATTITUDEFROMANEMPLOYEECALLED«LOLA». Came in today to get icecream for my SO& myself after a long hot day. The chubby light skinned girl was a total sweet heart and let me taste one of their new flavors and then proceeded to give me my choices. I ended up ordering a chocobanana & strawberry paleta, as I was paying I tried the stawberry paleta, and realized something was off. It tasted like it had freezer burn and was inedible. I told the girl and apologized repeatedly for the inconvenience. The nice girl told me to wait and called Lola over who gave me straight up attitude, looked me up and down and acted as if I was lying, didn’t apologize once! I let it go because I was tired and not in the mood to deal with rude people. In the end they reluctantly exchanged my paleta and I walked out. Two minutes later as we are driving away my partner bites into his chocobanano and a long hair is inside melted with the chocolate. I’ve been coming to Mateos for ever and so has my family, to the point of introducing tons of people to them, to have to deal with unclean food and rude employees. Not coming back and telling my fam and people to do the same. If you want crappy service and nasty food go here!

Mateo’s is an ice cream lovers’ paradise! It’s not your typical parlor, but rather, a unique find in an ordinary strip mall on Sepulveda. It’s a hidden gem that is surprisingly crowded for a little place at the end of a strip mall that you would generally pass by. The options are very overwhelming from the moment you walk into the store, but thanks to the line of customers waiting to get their order, we had time to scope out what we wanted. There are a variety of seasonal and experimental flavors as well like Tamarind, Mezcal, Mango Chile and the Leche Quemada. Aside from ice cream, they also carry frozen chocolate covered bananas, shakes, fresh squeezed juices, and fruit cups. If you want to experience some amazing desserts with a little Mexican flair to it, Mateo’s is the place to go!

All this time I never knew I could enjoy such a sweet Latin cultural experience in my own back yard! This quaint little colorful gem is the bomb, and it sums up all the reasons I love living in a diverse city. The flavors look amazing! I couldn’t try them all, so I got the yellow cherry & pistachio ice cream, 2 scoops of creamy eclectic sweetness. The pistachio seems like it may have a hint of lemon in it and a slight cookie flavor. Loving it! The girl behind the counter was really cool and down to earth… I liked her vibe. They had this ginormous coconut on the counter that I have to try when I come back. If you want to experience something different, cool, sweet, and cultural, this is the spot! Thanks once again Unilocalers! 045⁄100

My second time here. The first time, I tried the strawberry paleta, which I liked but didn’t crave. This time I wanted to try something different and sampled the leche quemada(caramelized milk), which hit the spot. I couldn’t believe how flavorful it was. I got the paleta with cactus at the edge — probably one of the best«cheat meals» I’ve had in a while I’ll definitely be back– went there two days ago, already craving that exact one!

I forget how much I enjoy paletas! It is definitely a hole in the wall so don’t expect much in décor. Their paletas are great because they use real fruit pieces and they have scoops of ice cream as well. They have a sign that says that they don’t do samples on the weekends, but I think if it is not toooo busy, they are usually pretty nice about it. My favorites so far are strawberries and cream for paletas and horchata with walnuts for ice cream. All you really need to know: –Close to my apartment, but it is located in a small strip mall on Sepulveda so parking can be a bitch. If the lot is full, street parking isn’t too bad. –Cheap! –Portions are great– got a «small» scoop and it was plenty

I know for a fact that you won’t be disappointed by this spot. The best part is that they have three locations from you to choose from. This place is always packed because of the unique flavors and combinations. From soft serve to Popsicles, the variety is endless. There are both juice and milk based flavors and you can ask for a taste if you’re unsure. My all-time favorites are: mamey, leche quemada, nuez, and tuna(cactus fruit not the fish). Not sure what you call these flavors in English but I know there are translations at the store. You can always ask the server to describe to you any of the flavors. They are all delicious, I promise. Apart from the ice cream, there are cakes, smoothies, sandwiches, and fruit bowls. You’ll definitely be coming back to try more of the products!

So, so good! Our whole family loves this place. We’ve only gotten dessert here so far. My kids tend to like the ice cream/fruit bars while hubby and I go for the ice cream bowls. Every flavor is interesting and the prices are super reasonable.

A hidden gem! So many unique flavors for ice cream and popsicles. Tried the passion fruit and it was tangy and a burst of flavor. Guava ice cream has the texture of frozen guava dessert and smoked milk ice cream was creamy and tasty! Can’t wait to go again!

After eating a delicious po’boy for dinner, my friends and I were craving a light dessert to end our night. We headed towards Mateo’s Ice Cream & Fruit Bars. This place is very easy to miss. I only turned into the plaza because I recognized the similar architecture from the pictures on Unilocal of their storefront. Next door is a Coin Laundry place and across the street is an Enterprise Rent-A-Car. The colorful fruit bars were the main reason why I had been wanting to go to Mateo’s, but my eyes were immediately drawn to the many flavors of ice cream. After trying a TON of different ones, I decided on the Coffee Chocolate. My friends got Pistachio and Smoke Milk. I might be one of those weirdos who doesn’t drink coffee, but I am obsessed with coffee flavored ice cream and this, my friends, was DEE-licious. I was pleasantly surprised by the Smoke Milk. You can really taste the smokiness in each bite, which may sound strange, but worked very well with the milkiness. The girl behind the counter was super friendly and let us try as many flavors as we wanted. She even gave a little relationship advice to one of my friends. Side note: I randomly bumped into one of my Make-A-Wish families I had previously worked with at Mateo’s! I haven’t seen them in almost 2 years! So happy that they are all doing so well. The shop itself is small, as is the parking lot, but I really liked the vibe of the place and will definitely be back to try the fruit bars. Anddddddd maybe some other ice cream flavors too!

For quite some time, wanted to try their sandwiches. Finally did tonight. Tuna sandwich about twelve inches. Very good. Sliced lettuce. Avocado. Mayo. Bread top of the line. About $ 7. Strawberry sorbet like having party in mouth. I’m a believer.

Although their ice cream and paletas as are delicious, I tend to go for the vegetarian sandwich combo. One of my favorite places to eat. Why… Very generously made on fresh baguette, includes a small side of fruit drizzled with yogurt, half an orange & a drink… Any drink!(Pineapple juice, fresh cantaloupe juice, smoothie etc) They’re always polite, accommodating & very clean! Sadly I keep forgetting to take a picture of my meal but will do so next time I go. Support your local mom and pop shops!

Today Sunday(1÷17÷16) 3:25 pm Finally I tried this place because I love the one on pico. Love their banana split, it’s amazing . Parking sucks in the tiny plaza in which this store is located. The Hispanic guy(behind the register) was really mean to this employe, he was calling her names in Spanish, he said he was the one in charge. He was rude In front of the costumers. He said that he was in charge, his role is to ensure that each and every customer is served in a friendly, professional, and timely.

False advertisement. They don’t have the right hours up. It’s closed and Unilocal says the close in 10 minutes. This is why I hate mom and pop spots they close whenever they want.

I’ve been very excited about this place ever since I found it. So when the chance came up, I made my move. Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to the hype. Although they have A LOT of really interesting flavors, there weren’t any that really struck my fancy. After trying a couple runner-ups, I ended up with the coconut, which was just fine. The biggest disappointment is usually the gimme. I got the chocolate sprinkles waffle cone, which just tasted stale. Super disappointing.

i finally tried this place!!! and i will be back soon, regardless if the weather is FREEZING! i only tried a few flavors, but the walnut hit! i got 2 scoops in a chocolate/nut dipped cone. and boy was it delicious! the texture of the ice cream was perfect; super soft and creamy! $ 5 and i thought, damn that’s kind of expensive for a mom & pop place with a small cone. but as i was half way into the cone i was like dear lord this is a lot of ice cream!!! definitely worth it. my friend ordered a sandwich and said it was yummy. i really want to try the coconut popsicle so i’ll get that next time. i think the only thing i dislike, actually hate is the décor and colors. there’s such a thing as being too vibrant! lol the shop was clean and had a lot of customers for a rainy day. it must be a mad house on hot days! go for the ice cream and food though, not to look at the walls. you won’t be disappointed :)

Love the assortment of flavors from cactus fruit, smoked milk, mezcal, passion fruit and much more. The service is friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about all the various flavors. Today I tried the mezcal. I loved it. The ice cream is not overly sweet and not heavy. Prices are great. For a single scoop $ 2.00, double scoop $ 3.75, ice cream bars range from $ 2-$ 3. They also have drinks and fresh fruit, flan, and other dessert items. There is a small eating area that is clean and well maintained. Will absolutely come back!

I LOVELOVELOVEMATEO’S! Thankfully in Los Angeles, EVERYSEASONISICECREAMSEASON! First off, they’re special for the popsicles. That said, if you go with the standard ice cream scoops, you will still have the magical experience of Mateo’s. I love the freshness of the fruity flavors and the CHOICE of fruits that they offer. Even simple strawberry is phenomenal(if you order the popsicle, it comes with a piece of strawberry on the stick too!). As for the popsicles, you can choose milk-based or not. I personally love milk-based ice cream. And under that category, I like the smoked milk. I’ve also tried the pistachio which was good, but not phenomenal. For non-milk-based, they’re known for the chili mango. Some of my friends absolutely love it, I’m not the biggest fan(even though I LOVE eating chili mangoes). I need to return to try other flavors… can’t wait to try them all!

I’ve been dying to try Mateo’s for awhile now. They have every paleta flavor you can ever want. The most popular are their spicy mango and creamy strawberry. It’s on average $ 2.50 per paleta. Such a great deal! We came here when it was 90 degrees outside and the line went out the door. But it only took five minutes for us to get helped. My friend ordered the horchata ice cream in a cup and it looked pretty good. But he tried some of our creamy strawberry paleta and told us it was better. The parking really sucks at this location since they share a lot with a laundromat. But I still can’t wait to come back and try another flavor.

I’ve seen one too many snapchat and instagram posts about this place but couldn’t find the time to stop by. But one glorious day, my friend brought me some! It definitely lives up to the hype. The bars were creamy and flavorful. We had the coffee, the strawberry and the milk one. I LOVED the strawberry one the best– the taste was all there and there was a heart-shaped strawberry on the bar that made it look cute and picture-worthy. =) Definitely on my list to go try the other items.

Came here to get some ice cream bars. I got the strawberry popsicle, creamy and rich in strawberry-milk flavors. My husband had the chile con mango(spicy mango) and it was spicy and tangy. I did not like it but he sure did! Each popsicle bar was only $ 2.00! Limited parking in the small lot.

Las paletas are great, there are so many choices from mango con chile to pineapple coconut. They also serve regular ice cream, bionicos, banana splits(3 scoops of ice cream, mango, strawberry, and whip cream!!) Their sandwiches include a small bionico and a juice which is pretty filling. They also have juices if you’re into juicing which they call vampiros. Recently our customer service was a little disturbing, Jennifer had a lot of attitude, so I hope they shape up and get it together because our ice cream didnt taste the same when you get attitude from the server.

I loooooove this place! The ice cream flavors are unique and de-freakin-licous!!! The Popsicles are simply amazing and the best I have ever had! I wanted to try something new so I had the eggnog and raisin ice cream — so good! I also tried a bite of the strawberry Popsicle and it tasted like the strawberrys off a delicious shortcake just frozen– the best!
