Murfs Auto Tech Center

I’ve had the opportunity to use Murfs twice in the last few months. My daughter moved from MN to the Culver City area and ran into car problems a couple of times. She drives a 2003 Jeep Liberty with about 250k miles, so yeah, it needs things from time to time. How do you pick a repair shop in CA from MN? Murfs came recommended by my insurance company or at least they were close to where my daughter lives and where her vehicle broke down.
So, perhaps by luck/​chance/​kismet, I’ve become acquainted with their work. They treated my daughter respectfully and did JUST the work needed to get her rolling again. The vehicle could probably use 20 different things at any given time but they focused on just what that day’s problem was, explained everything to both her on site and me via phone and got her on her way. This first time was a fuel line issue.
A few weeks ago while I was visiting over the Holidays, (although not known at the time) the water pump gave way causing an overheat. I was leaving the next day (Sunday) but had the Jeep towed to Murf’s. After contacting them first thing Monday morning and speaking first with Jose (who asked me why I lived in MN. funny guy!) and then later with Mike, I was assured they would get the vehicle rolling again. They did, as expected. Prior to finishing, Mike called to say that there was something else, not related to the water pump, that should be replaced (I asked him to check out a high-​pitched noise). Before I could even think he then said he doesn’t want to nickel and dime me but since it was on the rack, the part should be replaced. He said it would cost $ 38 with no additional labor. Well, that didn’t seem nickel and dime to me, that sounded like a preventative solution. Do it!
And so it was done. On time and as quoted. I’ve tried to explain to my daughter how valuable a neighborhood/​local repair center relationship can be. It hasn’t taken long for Murfs to win my business and loyalty. I trust them enough and value their service that next time I’m in town from MN, I’ll need to drop by with some donuts or fresh tacos to meet the guys and personally share my gratitude in doing right by me from a distance and my daughter locally.

Updating my experience, many years later Murfs continues to impress. The team was a big help in keeping our Mini running without failure for over 12 years. I bring my Acura for service on a regular basis, and my Fiancée brings her new Mazda for regular checkups.

BAD AUTO REPAIR:
To all of my friends out there. Having your car repaired correctly is key to your family’s safety. I had a very bad experience recently, and wanted to pass my experience on to you so you will not have to go through the mess that I did.
I had Murphs Auto Tech Center replace my U-​Joints on my SUV and with only 2,590 miles on the U-​Joint, it failed, which caused $ 3926.13 in damages to my transmission. I have asked Mike Murphy to back up his work, and after 5 weeks, he has NOT offered to me, any compensation for the damages to my SUV. Mike Murphy does not care enough to return phone calls and he returned only 1 phone call to me 28 days after the event. There is no integrity demonstrated by this company. I will file a lawsuit to get compensated for the unacceptable work performed at Murphs. I will never have my car worked on by Murphs Auto Tech Center ever again. I would never recommend having your car serviced here. If you care about your family’s safety, then don’t use Murphs Auto Tech Center!

Just had the motor rebuilt here along with a list of other things. Mike and Dave are awesome. They got the car right in and efficiently got the car right back out. I came here with high recommendation from friends. I will return.

A few years ago when I was new to the area my old Buick started acting up and I needed help ASAP. Thanks to the great reviews on Unilocal,I took a chance on Murfs Auto, and after who-​knows-​how-​many-​repairs on my clunker, I’m still a big fan! Mike is the best. He is patient and kind with me despite all my worries, questions, and needs and is always honest with me. I’m so happy to have found a mechanic I can trust in the big city ;)

I went to Murf’s with a couple of problems, and they told me one wasn’t worth fixing, and gave me a competitive price on the other one. They also showed me the part that needed replacement, and taught me what the problem was. My most important criteria for an auto shop is trustworthiness, and I trust Murfs!

When a hit-​and-​runner smashed my side view mirror, I was like @&$!?, this is going to cost me a fortune. Luckily, I immediately dropped by Murf’s where they quickly called and ordered the part at a killer price. Installation was quick and everyone was very chill. Least stressful car damage I’ve ever had. Thanks Murf’s!

MURF’S IS THE BEST! They always take great care of me. At this point I feel like I’m just dropping my car off with family, like they’re all my uncles. I trust them completely to do quality work at the best deal they can manage for me. Mike, Dave, and Jose are WONDERFUL. I recommend them to everyone for every car need!

This place is really great. I always take my car here. I got it diagnosed a long time ago with Pep Boys and even though they found several things that needed to be repaired they had no idea what was of most importance. Also they wanted to charge me an arm and a leg.
Murf’s Auto is old style, they look at THE CAR not a computer and they are VERY reasonable with the price. Its awesome, the only problem I have with them is that they are getting popular and now I will have to wait a little longer than before… but they are worth the wait.

I have been taking my car to Mike and Dave for several years now and have recommended several people, all of whom have been satisfied. They are nice guys and have always done good, honest work at a reasonable price. When they fix something, it is fixed. These guys used to work at a local dealership that closed and decided to start their own business, so they bring a wealth of knowledge. I will continue to recommend them. Thanks Mike and Dave!

HIGHLY recommended, just be sure to make an appointment since they’re fairly small.
Now I know why my Culver City neighbors recommended them. They obviously believe in the ‘customer for life’ credo, or at least they give a hoot. They don’t make up stuff that isn’t wrong with your car (like, say, Galpin Mazda) and then overcharge. You know those ‘coupons’ for oil changes, inspections, etc. They’re scams. Murf’s don’t play that. If they recommend your car needs something, your car does.
I know about cars, just no tools, time or skillz. So when I brought my car to them for nothing more than an oil change and brake shimmy on my Mazda 5, they did exactly that. Only $ 50. Then a discount on the inspection, knowing I had to get my rotors turned. But he pro-​rated the discount right there, w/​o assurance I would even show up the next day to do the rotors (I did of course). It’s little things like these that will instill a sense of trust with customers. Integrity, folks. It’s a nice, warm fuzzy blanket.

These guys are great! On our way back from Santa Barbara, my boyfriend and I noticed my car making a really weird noise so we get off the freeway and luckily enough we found this auto shop. Once we pulled in there, Co-​owner Jose immediately figured out what was wrong and rebolted what was causing the noise enough to at least get us home. This was a very fair place

Good guys with good guy pricing. Need your car, truck or suv fixed possibly a motorcycle too. This is the place to come and see what’s happening. I drive a little over 30 some odd miles one way and surpass all the other stops and shops just so Dave and Jose can check out my car and work on it as needed. They don’t B.S. you and the pricing is according to the repair. No more no less. So I would say if you don’t want to feel like getting jacked around at another shop or at dealer pricing. Then check out Murphy, Dave & Jose. Guaranteed they’ll make you smile.

I’ve been taking ALL of my cars to Murf’s the last 5 years! Whether it’s a timing belt on a 2002 Honda or front end work on a classic ’55 Chevy, these guys always find a way to get it done! Their honest, excellent work for a great price sets them apart from any shop I’ve dealt with previously — they are my «one stop shop» :)

We have been taking our cars to Jose at Murf’s Auto Tech Center in Culver City for the past three years. He has always given us good service at fair prices. It’s nice to have a mechanic you can trust.

I have taken both my Landcruiser and my BMW 7 series to Murf’s and always get the best service. Mike at Murf’s is a straight shooter and has a combination of really good mechanics and fair prices, a hard combination to find in Los Angeles in my opinion. He and his team really care about their customers and want to build a relationship, and not just a one time repair. I highly recommend Murf’s to all my friends, as you always get treated with respect, professionalism and fair prices.

All my life, I’ve been going to the same mechanic my mom goes to. He’s far away, and he’s not very good, but I continued to go to him because he always gave us the cheapest rates I could find anywhere, and I’d been going to him so long (as far back as 9 years old, when my Mom would pick me up after school and we would get the oil changed).
Last year, I found Mike at Murf’s Auto Tech in the west side. It’s still a drive but not nearly as far as my old mechanic. Besides that, Mike and his crew are THE BEST. I have never had to bring my car back in because they screwed up the repair. I’ve never felt gouged. In fact, Mike keeps things as reasonably priced as possible. And, the one time the repair cost more than we had initially thought it would, Mike called me every step of the way, keeping the whole process forthright and transparent. It is such a relief to fully trust the person handling my car. I didn’t realize what a source of stress it was to me to have to drive really far to see a mechanic that wasn’t very good. Mike is THE MAN. Besides honesty, communication, and a great sense of humor, this guy is just an all-​around nice man.
I went this whole review and didn’t ONCE make a «Mike and the Mechanics» reference. All I Need Is A Miracle!!!

I am SO happy I came upon this auto shop! My car needed a repair, and they were able to do the job for about half the cost that other shops quoted the job at. As a young female, I am used to having to be cautious about being taken advantage of by auto shops. I feel like Murf’s really took care of me. They knew exactly what the problem was, were able to fix it quickly, and they were genuine in their efforts to give me the best experience possible. The tech who took care of me, Jose, is clearly very good at what he does and is a very sweet man to boot. In talking with the owner, Mike, he revealed how he likes to take care of his customers the way he hopes his own family would be treated. The guys at Murf’s obviously take great pride in offering great service and making their customers happy. I am SO relieved that I have finally found an auto shop that I really feel like I can trust. They definitely have my business from now on and I would recommend them to anyone!

The guys at Murf’s are quality people. They always treat me with respect, even though I’m a girl who admittedly know very little about my car. I’ve never felt ripped off by them – in fact, they are quick to tell you if they think you can get some more time out of a malfunctioning part. I started going there because my boyfriend’s trusted mechanic Pete moved there when he closed his shop. I don’t know if he’s still working there, but Jose always takes good care of us. Really though, see any of them. The owner Mike is a really nice guy, and he’ll take good care of you.

Murf’s treats me well each time I go. I’ve been three times since they opened, twice with my girlfriend’s car and once with my own. I only take in the work I can’t do myself. They are fast and don’t try to over charge me for parts or inflate labor time. All the work has been top quality.
Since moving to LA from the east coast I have been to a few garages and it seems like the default is to jerk the customer around and rip you off because they can. We all need our wheels out here and when your car needs work done they got you by the balls. I was glad to find these guys, dealing with them reminds me of my old place I used to go to.
