Masterad Radiator & Air Conditioning & Auto Repair

So happy we chose to stop here. On our way home to San Francisco our car was overheating and we needed to get our radiator replaced. Not only did he have our car ready to go in a few hours, but he didn’t overcharge us. Fast, friendly, honest mechanic!

Dropped off my Toyota Prius yesterday morning with Mr. Hyong Yoo to have my condenser replaced, and got it back at the end of the day for exactly the price quoted, which was less than half of what the dealership was asking! Very professional and friendly.

Came here due to the good Unilocal reviews. I had replaced the seals in the AC system myself since I know my way around the car. I just needed a vacuuming of the system and recharge.
The first visit, the mechanic briefly vacuums the system for 5 minutes instead of half an hour or more, and then adds enough freon for the compressor to engage. He then complained my fan was not working.
He told me to wire a switch inside to the dash to short the connection to the fan, but I like to fix my car the right way, so I took it home to replace the auxiliary fan ballast resistor since that was the real culprit.
The mechanic informed me that he would add a little more freon next time I came in. Since I had to wait a week for the resistor, I observed that the AC compressor was still working so my leak fix was good.
Came back after the fix and he filled what he thought was enough freon. I saw the gauge pressure read 200 psi and he got mad saying I didn’t fix the problem. I was sad and thought it was the pressure switch to turn on the fan that was broken, but on a whim I went and bought freon from the local auto store to check if he added enough. All it took was a $ 20 bottle and the fan kicked on. The mechanic here didn’t put enough freon in. I did all the repairs, and he charged me $ 100 for the first visit where he didn’t put enough freon in. He then argued with me when I was explaining my diagnosis and told me to ‘just go’ in the end. All while I was being very kind and informative of the situation.
I will give him the benefit of the doubt that he didn’t know the pressure on my AC had to be high, so two stars. He did know the fan should turn on. But I did not appreciate the attitude, the cost, and his request to short my system to fix it the wrong way. He was about to short the fan with a box staple when I stopped him. Luckily I did because that would have ruined the terminals and the problem he thought existed I already fixed.
Honest mechanic? I think not. He was good the first visit, but the second was a shame on him for not knowing his Air Conditioning basics, and for treating his customer with disrespect. I would not recommend him since you can find many other AC shops that state their charges up front and do more work properly for a decent price. I will be taking my car elsewhere for future work.

I consider myself lucky to have found this place online. I have a 2007 Infiniti G35 that the AC compressor went out on almost two years ago. I have been hesitant to get the part replaced as other places have quoted the parts and labor to be close to $ 1,500 to repair. I found this shop via Unilocal and after seeing the reviews, decided to give the mechanic a shot. Not only did he take care of my car in a day, he did it for $ 950 after everything. Don’t be fooled by the appearance of this place, the owner is as trustworthy as it gets. Would highly recommend.

Overall great work, went in to get AC checked out because it stopped working after my car was involved in an accident. He recharge the AC freon and checked all AC components without charge. Found that my fan motor was no good and did not turn on due to a broken fan motor. I already knew my fan didn’t work but got him to also discover it and inform me that my car overheats was a reassurance that he knew what he was doing. I recommend him to my family and friend. Only charged $ 40 buck for the service.

Great mechanic. Went in to have him look over my a/​c that would cut out occasionally. He tested the system and identified that it was over charged. Fixed it and then wouldn’t take a dime from me. Great guy, great shop.

This guy is great. I had my compressor replaced on my 528i bmw 1999 along with a couple other ac parts that were broken. He got it all done in a day and gave me a great price. A true man of his trade as his shop will tell you.

I’m very happy with Mr. Young’s service. My car had developed a rattling sound from the hood, and the cold a/​c was no longer working. It turned out that my AC compressor needed to be replaced. Mr. Young was very thorough in explaining what the problem was and how it needed to be fixed. His price was fair and reasonable. I would go back to him anytime. Thank you!

If you are having AC problem with your car this place is the best place to take your car! This shop looks like a junk yard inside Culver City but his work is awesome and genuine!
He is a one man team so there could be times that he will be working on multiple vehicle at the same time.
This guy knows what he’s doing and will provide you options on brands to use if you need to replace any parts.
His English is not that good so try to be patient when you talk to him.

Got my air conditioner repair at this place. Very satisfied… I walked in with no appointment and got the work done within 3 hours. Young is awesome. Don’t judge the place for its looks. It reminds of Sanders and Son’s from the old 70’s show. It’s full of junk and discarded old car parts… Young (think he’s the owner) is fair and know’s what he’s doing.

BE AWARE!!! This guy is hiding behind his bad English and he takes your money pretending to do some work. I took the car to fix the AC, he did some work which resulted in a short in some other area, which when fixed resulted in a chemical melt down and back to no AC. He also did the regular tune up, and I had to go somewhere else for the oil change to find out that the filters were not changed and the engine light was still on.
I was without a car for 10 days and given the run around, and when I asked my money back he did say NO in good English. I am taking him to court.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRETEND MECHANIC.

I’ve taken my car back 3 or 4 times because my car continues to overheat, but he doesn’t stand behind his work. He seems clueless as to how to fix it when it’s obvious that the radiator he put in is defective, but it’s easier for him to just him-​haw around tell me to bring it back tomorrow. His English is very bad so you really can’t even communicate with him. Overall, the onus on is me the customer to figure out the problem… I guess… I dunno, but I’m just DONE with this guy. Go elsewhere!

Highly recommended radiator and AC shop. Called him for a new radiator quote, got there at 2:30pm, told me to come back in 2 hours. By 4:30 it’s done and tested.

This guy gets to the point. Took it in at 1pm and it was ready that day. Significantly less than other shops. He also took the time to show me the broken part, explain what went wrong and how he fixed it. I will use him again in the future. Work done on a 2009 Altima.

I had called the dealer to inquire about recharging my AC and they wanted 250 – 300 $. I looked on Unilocaled and masterad was the first to popup. I called and Young answered the phone and I told him that I needed to recharge my AC, he quoted me $ 100. Like the others post say don’t judge a a book by its cover. His shop looks a little run down. Needless to say Young recharged my AC and charged me only $ 60. He was very knowledgable. I’ll gladly refer people I know to him. Thank you Young

The mechanic is great with Toyota Pick Up trucks.

I needed some major cooling system repair. I called around for estimates and I heard everything from a couple of grand to «I don’t know» to which I suggested they look it up and their reply was to bring it in Monday, click.
I am extremely suspect of most mechanics because they earned it. After review a perfect 5 stat Unilocal score on Masterad I decided to call. Young took his time, asked me questions, gave me a very reasonable estimate and said he would be open Saturday and to bring my car in at 7:30am which I did. Btw, call to ask if he’s open on Saturday as sometimes he is not. Play by play;
I got there at 7:20, Young pulled up at 7:40
I told him I needed a water pump, he looked and said I did ($ 200 out the door)
8:30am he called to tell me I need the following;
Timing belt
Water Pump
AC belt
Break Pads
I knew I needed break pads, a water pump, my AC hadn’t been working well at all, I knew I was close/​shortly over-​due for a timing belt. I asked how much and could all that be done that day. Young said he would do it for $ 500 total (parts/​labor and tax all included) and that he would have it done by 1:00pm that day which he did.
All cooling leaks have stopped
Now starts immediately
Breaks are much better
AC blows cold air (this was a pleasant surprise)
His shop looks as though it were pieced together over the years with scrap metal. If you need to have gourmet coffee and valet parking offered from your mechanic then this place isn’t for you. If you want solid quality work at more than reasonable prices from an honest guy, Masterad should be your number 1 choice!

What a great guy. Called and asked if he could get a radiator for my car.
He then informed me that there are two different units for my car and told me how to tell the difference. I checked and found out which unit to order and he ordered it. His price was as good as any I could find ONLINE, but no shipping charges, as I could pick it up
directly from his shop.
I was on the way down to pick up the radiator and he asked me to bring the old unit.
Why? Because he wanted me to be sure it was right one. So I brought the old
unit and made a comparison, it was slightly different but we both knew it would work.
Paid him on the spot (credit card) and he said he would keep the old unit for a couple
days in case something went wrong. The new unit fit just fine, dropped right in.
His shop will not impress you with its neatness, but he is busy and clearly a hard
working fellow who knows his business. He even reminded me not to use tap water
and to mix the anti-​freeze ⁵⁰⁄₅₀ before pouring it in.
As a former mechanic, this information was unnecessary for me. To a do it yourselfer, it would be helpful.
Good guy, good prices, helpful and honest. What more do you want? I am impressed.

Be aware that he does not answer the phone «Masterad». He just picks up the phone and says hello. Don’t let it throw you, that is just how he is.

The a/​c on my BMW X5 has not been getting cold on the passenger side of my car. After reading several forums the first item of business should be to check the refrigerant/​freon level. It finally got hot enough for me to deal with it, and so I called Masterad based on the stellar Unilocal reviews. I spoke to Hyong Yoo who said that he would not charge me a diagnostic fee (very unusual in LA), and to just bring it in and he will check it out.
I drove over immediately, and he did a few interior a/​c checks, then checked the pressure of my a/​c system. The pressure was low, so he charged it, and I was on my way in about 10 minutes. Hyong Yoo took the time to explain why my pressure may be low, what to keep an eye out for, and a reasonable time in which a freon leak may manifest itself. I had a fantastic experience there, and would highly recommend Masterad!

I really called around to get a decent estimate. Masterad was by far the best price in my area for a new radiator and hoses. Most places wanted twice the price.
Did a great job and was very quick as well! It’s a sorta messy looking place, but don’t let looks fool you. This is the best service I have received in a very long time. Great job!
