Suites at 249

Our favorite for a weekend get away. The Verde Suite is beautifully decorated with a great view of downtown Culpeper. The iron deck overlooking the rail station is a great place to enjoy a glass of wine. The large steam shower is a great treat. This is our second stay at this boutique hotel and we’ll be back, hopefully soon.

My boyfriend and I had a fantastic stay here the weekend of October 23, staying two nights in the Acqua Suite. The main room where the bed is located is huge, and the bathroom is long and a nice size. I felt like the room plus bathroom were about as big as my one bedroom condo in Washington, DC! There is also a balcony where you can enjoy a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. The rooms also have their own thermostat that you can control; the TV is very generous with the amount of channels it gets; and our room had books and magazines in it for reading. We checked in during the late afternoon on Friday which was a quick process. Parking is available on the street or in the lot across the street — just know that if you park in the lot on a Friday night, you have to move your car before they start setting up in the early morning for the Farmer’s Market on Saturday. The hotel is conveniently located in downtown and it is easy to walk to everything right in the immediate area that you might want to do. Despite its proximity to the train station, I didn’t hear any train rumblings while in our room.
I would highly recommend people to stay in this hotel for a weekend stay in Culpeper!

We stayed in Halloween weekend, and checked in after 6 pm. Victoria was great at walking us through the self check in process. Our room was immaculate, and well appointed. We stayed in the Violetta suite, the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom is huge! Each room has their own thermostat, and the hotel is located downtown, in walking distance to several shops and restaurants. We can’t wait to go back!

Love this place. It’s not your typical hotel (no breakfast, fitness center, etc), but that’s the charm of it. It’s like have your own studio in downtown Culpeper. Parking is a bit tricky, and I wish they had a lot of their own. We stayed a Fri and Sat night, switching from the Verde to the Acqua suites. Verde is right on the Main Street, and you overlook the shops and such. Both rooms have balconies which was nice. Rooms are spacious, super clean, and bathrooms are amazing with double sinks, 5 shower heads and a steamer in the shower. We barely even left the room the 2^nd night it was so comfortable. Staff was great. Only downside was the parking. Had to move my car every 2 hours up until 6. Sunday I didn’t have to move the car. There is a free lot a few blocks away so that is always an option. Farmers market on Saturday was near. Brew Pub right around the corner as well. Great location. Definitely recommend and will try to come back!

My boyfriend and I stayed in the Verde suite this past weekend and didn’t want to leave! The room is quite large with tons of natural light and a private balcony. The steam shower alone is enough reason to come back — it was like having a personal spa! I liked staying at the front of the hotel for the people watching and it was nice to see all the holiday decorations at Xmas time as it got dark. There is a fireplace that works with a remote control and a nice sized TV if the weather isn’t agreeable. We paired our trip with a weekend of touring vineyards — we visited 12 in the 3 days we were in the area all of which were a close driving distance from the town. By the end of the weekend my boyfriend and I were coming up with a list of things we didn’t get to or places we’d go to again just so we could come back to the Suites at 249 in the next few weeks. We are both going through Suites at 249 withdrawal — take us back!

Unfortunately, for a high end establishment, found the customer service to be subpar. Asked them if they had space for me to take a 45 one-​on-​one meeting. Was offered space at a local catering establishment they also own, but I would have had to pay for the space. Pretty tacky, should have just said «sorry we don’t have space available».

REALLY GREAT STAY! We had the double suite in the bottom floor… Easy in and out access. Great for staying with a toddler Private parking. Giant king sized beds with pillow top mattresses! Would defiantly stay again!
Culpepper is a trendy little town to walk around in! Wish the boutiques stayed open a little later, but it was still nice to walk around at night.

It was clean, stylish, and well appointed. Booking, arrival, and departure were a piece of cake. I especially liked the liberal cancellation/​change policy and the free wifi.
My only criticism is a taste issue, that the beds are too soft. Also the view to the back alley wasn’t the greatest (Violet room). Also it misses the uniqueness of the Thyme Inn.
But for the price quite good and functional. I would go back.

What a great place! The bed had to be the best I have slept in for I don’t know how long! I travel all the time and this was such a treasure to find. Great ownership and quaint location. Beautifully decorated.

Best place to stay in Culpeper.

This is the first boutique hotel I have ever stayed in and I cannot wait to go back for my anniversary!
We stayed in the Sienne suite, which is on the ground floor of the hotel. It was decorated very tastefully and classy. The colors are a muted burnt orangey color and very nice. The ceilings are VERY high and gives the impression of a much larger room. The bathroom seemed to be almost the same size of the room! Very large and the shower was gigantic! I also really loved the blinds on the windows. A weird thing to write about, but being on the ground floor, I feel uncomfortable leaving blinds open and people possibly seeing in. The train depot is right across the street and people are coming and going a lot. I liked the blinds because you can actually pull them down so that the light comes in from the top of the window and they are HUGE windows so you get plenty of light this way.
I mentioned the train depot being across the street. Even though I am from Culpeper, I didn’t know how loud the train may be coming and going several times per day. I barely noticed it. They cannot blow their horn in town limits which is great and the noise of the train rumbling down the tracks is very muted and there is no shaking or vibrations inside the room.
If you want a top room, I suggest booking early! I called on Monday to reserve a Friday and Saturday night in the Verde suite (seems to be one of the favorites!) which is on the top floor along with the other larger suites (all suites on the top floor have steam showers I hear and all larger suites upstairs have a balcony. there is no balcony for the ground floor suites) and ALL ROOMS were booked except for the Sienna. So we’ll be calling several weeks ahead next time.
As this is an older building, your floor creak quite a bit. I never once heard anyone upstairs walking around and the only time I heard anyone at all was when people were talking in the lobby in the afternoon and when people from the suite next door were walking down the hallway to their suite.
Once you arrive, you will be given a code that works for the lobby door and for your suite, which I liked because I didn’t have to carry a key. If you’re going to arrive late, call ahead because it is NOT STAFFED overnight. The staff will give you your code to get in if you’re coming in late. If you need anything while you’re there and staff is not there, just simply call the number you called to reserve and someone is on call ²⁴⁄₇.
Great hotel, great location, amazing rooms. Will be back!

The beds are SO COMFORTABLE between the Italian linen sheets, feather comforter, and feather bed cover. we plan on calling the establishment to find out the brand of bedding that is used.

This place was amazing. My boyfriend and I decided to go to Shenandoah National Park for the weekend but instead of camping, we looked into Culpeper — a town just 20 miles away. Very quaint town with a great coffee shop that serves gourmet baked goods and breakfast meals, interesting boutiques, and good restaurants (we ate at Sophie’s — delicious).
I saw the pictures for the Suites and immediately booked the place. We had the Violetta suite on the ground floor. It was super comfy and had a nice fragrance to it. King size bed with feather bed, luxurious sheets and towels, great water pressure in the shower, flat screen tv and fireplace in the room. I travel a lot and the suites were topnotch. Gilchrist and Soames soaps and shampoos. Also, key-​less entry to the suites are very convenient. The suites are located in a convenient location, right on the main town street. The coffee shop is just outside your door. Great coffee.
The suites even have larger suites for larger groups. One suite downstairs has 2 king sized beds. Could be great for a family.

Just a suggestion… if you are going to stay in Culpeper, skip the usual chain hotels, and give the Suites at 249 a try. While it is a bit pricier than most other hotels and the like, it has more charm and comforts to offer.
Located right across from the Train station, I found this a warm and inviting little place to stay around the winter time. Each room has a theme, and the one I stayed in was decorated in modern orange hues. There was a flat screen TV above the cozy fireplace. In front of the fireplace sit 2 comfy chairs to relax and warm-​up fireside.
The bathroom was spacious, and offered all of the amenities you would expect from a fine hotel. They supplied the wonderful Gilchrist and Soames toiletries, and even had 2 bathrobes ready to keep you warm while drying off from the shower. Let’s also not forget how comfortable warm the bed was, with the plush mattress, comforter and pillows.
I really loved staying at this modern bed and breakfast. I loved the contemporary and minimalistic décor, and found the check-​in and check-​out to be quick, easy, and painless. You are supplied with a card to let you in and out of the building, so you feel safe knowing that only guests are able to enter the small building. It sits right in the heart of town, and is close to all of the great restaurants and little shops. I will definitely come back to the Suites at 249 if I make any trips to Culpeper in the future.

What a wonderful luxury in Culpeper… the Suites at 249 is just that and more… it manages to be sophisticated, luxurious, and indulgent while still giving you the warm, welcomed «at home» feeling. To top it off, the design and décor are modern and stylish.
My husband and I planned a weekend getaway for my birthday and drove up from Richmond. I think Culpeper is a fantastic weekend destination from DC or Richmond, and if you come you should not miss these Suites.
We stayed on the top floor in the Verde suite, which I have declared my home away from home and quite frankly wish I could live in. I love the soft green and neutral hues, the exposed vintage brick of this restored commercial building, and from the tall, original windows I enjoyed the nice views of the activity on Davis Street below. There is even a wrought iron balcony on the side with a table and chairs, overlooking a park and the Culpeper train station.
The bathroom is large bordering on huge, with a double sink/​vanity, softly enveloping bamboo fiber towels and bathrobes, and a spacious glassed in sauna/​steam shower. The bed is a snowy white king-​sized retreat and extremely comfortable.
When you are not out enjoying the town or the nearby mountains/​National Park land, you might just want to relax in the sitting area with the gas fireplace or flatscreen HD TV.
If I haven’t raved enough about this place, let me just add that world class fine dining, eclectic boutique shopping and casual coffee shops are just steps away from your door.
