Ocean View Inn

This was the best little hotel in crescent city! My husband and I went for a weekend get away and it was a perfect escape. The hotel was clean and quiet. The room we reserved had a jacuzzi tub that we could both fit in well. From the tub you could watch tv, see the fire place or gaze out the sliding glass door. From the balcony was a beautiful ocean. In the morning we had a free breakfast nothing fancy normal hotel continental breakfast. The staff was nice and friendly. My only complaint is that the pillows on the bed were cheep and flimsy and there was not enough towels in the room. Other than that it was cool the décor a little dated but all and all a great place to stay.

What a really lovely room for a great rate. The room was very clean (and I mean corners in back places included). The woman at the front desk was so nice and accommodating for my ADA needs. I wasn’t shoved in a corner room which happens so often. I was given an upgraded room at no cost since we came off-​peak and there was availability. My husband and I were very impressed by the overall experience at this place and highly recommend it to anyone looking to find a place to stay mid trip, or if this is their destination area.

We chose this hotel based on the amenities listed for the jacuzzi room… ocean view and jacuzzi bath tub. The room technically had all of these amenities, but did not live up to our expectations. The hotel room was adequate. I can say that all of the staff seemed kind and the manager provided good customer service.

From where it is and what it costs, gosh that´s worth five stars! My priorities: it should be super-​clean, and that´s what it was. I always thought a little bit of mold is what you just get — being so closed to the sea — but not here, no mold smell AT ALL! Totally clean air, totally renovated or new everything :) The bathtub/​shower and toilet where super clean, our cleaning lady (Arielle) just got ready when we entered the room and she was very sweet when asking us if we thought the room was clean. The beds were super comfy and we really slept good. Well, the neighbor room was occupied and someone was having on the TV and/​or was talking louder on the phone or so, but you know it, it´s a hotel place, there´s nothing you really can do about it. It wasn´t all too loud as well. Stay here if you´re in town. The breakfast was alright too, with a big pot of Philadelphia cream cheese and all kinds of bagels or bread to choose from, as well yoghurts, marmelade, fresh fruits, coffe, tea. What I liked as well: Coffe & tea were available to take on the go when you´re walking through the dining area, for free, anytime.

I was going to give this hotel a five stars for making accommodations for my child when we had to unexpectedly go to the ER while camping nearby. They don’t allow pets but made an exception. JoAnn was very sweet on the phone and very sympathetic. The gentleman that checked me in was also polite and accommodating.
My issue was this morning when I walked out of my room to walk my dog an older woman (manager) mentioned she smelled marijuana. I told her I smelled it to last night as well. As I was walking my dogs I was hoping she wasn’t thinking I was the offender. After walking my dogs I went down the hall to speak to the front desk and she saw me from a side room and was talking to another woman. She said she had a couple issues. One was about my dogs but we cleared it when she confirmed I was the one who came in last night with my daughter from the ER. She then mentioned something about me having a pipe and it smelling like marijuana in the room. I immediately wanted to clear my name because it had become obvious that I was being accused of smoking. She mentioned her and the maids smelled it outside my door. I told her to please come to my room and she could see that there was no smell in my room. I told her I have three children in my room and I wanted to clear my name. When we were about to go in my room she hesitated and said it was ok but I insisted. I opened my door and my children were sitting on the bed watching TV including the injured one laying in bed. Nothing. She smelled nothing in the room. We couldn’t understand where the smell was coming from but there is an employee door next to our room?
Even though She apologized many times and shook my hand after I tried to help her track down the smell upstairs… I still after the fact feel quite offended. My heart was racing thinking that someone would even consider this of a mother with three kids. I felt it was an attack on my character. She even called me on the room phone to apologize. When I mentioned that she accused me and asked me about a pipe she backtracked and denied saying anything about a pipe.
So up until this morning I was completely happy with my experience. The rooms were clean and the breakfast was awesome.
Next time if you think you have people smoking marijuana… call the police and let them track down the culprits… don’t play the police and accuse/​imply that your hotel guest are guilty.
I hope to one day laugh about this but at the moment all I feel is sick to my stomach and the it was the last stress I needed when spending 6hrs at the ER and not going to sleep til almost 2am trying to care for my injured daughter.
Tried to contact the owner, called the front desk and asked to speak to the owner and never heard back.

Stayed here for 4 nights in June in a room facing the parking lot and highway 101, décor of the room was nice with some San Fran and NYC pictures. The breakfast is pretty good, the employees working at the front desk even had some newspaper to start a campfire down at the beach which was a nice. Made smores on the beach and gathered a bunch of free driftwood for the fire. There are car tracks that make a trail to the beach to the left rear of the Motel. I found a kite on the walk to the beach that was in working order so flew that out on the beach which had a good steady breeze.
Biggest issue was the toilet was unsealed at the base so it smelled like sewage and there was obviously water damage on the door frame. I called the front desk and housekeeping immediately showed up and bleached the bathroom and they got a hold of maintenance and they came in and sealed the toilet but the odor never went away. The carpet was brand new and the beds were very comfortable. Housekeeping was professional and friendly. 40″ flat screen is nice with HBO and other cable channels.
On the first floor by the elevators there is an ice machine, a soda machine $ 1.50 and also vending machines with snacks, and they have coffee available in the lobby 24 hours a day along with eight different types of tea and they also have fresh filtered water in a jug. There are 2 washers and 2 dryers that cost $ 1 a load if you need to wash some clothes. With the window open you can hear a bit of the traffic noise from the 101.
There is an ok mexican restaurant across the street called Perilitas and they have chicken mole’ which is good, fajitas not so much. FYI if you take an early walk in the morning, Perilitas has a black bear that sometimes dines at their dumpster early in the morning which is cool to watch from a distance.
¹⁄₁₀ of a mile down the street south on hwy 101 u can take the back way into Jedediah Smith Redwood National Park by taking a left on Elk Valley Rd and go 1 mile and take a right on Howland Hills road for 5 miles which becomes a dirt road and takes you into Stout Grove in the Redwoods which is a nice 1.5 mile loop hike.

Great for big families. There were 3 queen beds in our room, a large vanity and a spacious separate toilet and bath.
The beds are comfortable, one pillow per person in case you like two. There is a table with 2 chairs and an easy chair. The kids took note of the big flat screen TV. I opened the window to get an ocean breeze in the room.
The vanity has lots of space for toiletries, etc. At the end of the vanity there is a microwave and fridge.
The separate bath and toilet has lots of space, too. There are 6 towels, enough for everyone. I have been to hotels that have 3 towels for 2 queen beds. How does that figure? The shower has lots of space for shampoo, conditioner, soap, razors and for the ladies to place their foot when shaving. The bathroom has a fan and a timed heater.
I like the nice touches that the hotel has provided.

I stayed for 4 nights (⁵⁄₂₂ to ⁵⁄₂₆). The staff is friendly and helpful. The price per night is reasonable, I asked for a room on the first floor and got it. Very quiet — no loud people, so I slept like a baby. The curtains don’t close all the way, but I was able to kind of overlay them and it was dark enough.
The next time I visit Crescent City I will be back.

My husband and I stayed here in July 2014 and July 2012 but neglected to write a review. So better late than never. If we are in need of a hotel room in Crescent City, this is our go to place.
This is one of the newer hotels in town. Each time we stayed here, we enjoyed our time there. Our rooms were clean as was the common areas. We must have lucked out because our rooms were not decorated with mismatched home furnishings as mentioned by a couple of Unilocalers. The furnishings were just the basic matching bland furniture that I would also find in a HIE. Staff was kind and efficient.
Things to note:
Remember you are in Crescent City
— Overall clean newer hotel. Clean bright hallways. Safe place.
— Comfy mattress and bed linens.
— Large parking lot. Plenty of spaces and large lot to park RVs.
— If your looking for ambiance and a hotel on the beach, keeping looking. But there are rooms with a distant ocean views.
— No pool or fitness center.
–Complimentary breakfast is bare bones. On the lines of Costco muffins and breads, and portable fruit.
— No AAA discounts given. But from the various Unilocal reviews, pricing is all over the place. Maybe you can negotiate on the prices.
— I’m not sure if this is the case in every room, but the rooms that I stayed in had the sink in the bedroom. There was no sink in the bathroom. This was not a deal breaker for me. I just washed my hands using the shower faucets, no big deal.
