Dr. Shea rocks! Me and many of my family have been a patient of his for at least 15 years. He really goes out of his way to help. When I was a broke college student with no health/​vision insurance I stopped by and asked if he could sell me a pair of contacts to get me thru the year. He gave me a set for free! If you’re looking for a great optometrist look no further.

Always a great experience. The dr here is awesome always able to get me in at the last minute and always helps me with whatever problem I have with my eyes! he is very friendly and even came in once when he was off to help my husband with a eye issue he was having.

The doctor is awesome. They have so many frames and the staff is so pleasant! My boyfriend recommended me to come here 2 years ago and they have been taking care of my eyes since.

Very happy with the service I had at Nuview. They fit me in right away for a last minute appointment. The staff was friendly, professional, patient, and respectful. They answered all of my questions, volunteered the total costs right up front before the exam started, and offered me copies of my prescriptions for both contacts and eyeglasses in case I wanted to shop elsewhere for the best deals before committing to buying from them. When I considered buying contacts on site just before leaving, the staff even encouraged me to take my time, try out the new pair I had just been given for a day or so to see if I really liked them before committing to buying a year’s supply. Wow! Having dealt with some less honest optometrists in the past, some of whom threw in hidden charges, this honesty and respect was such a fantastic change. Kudos to the staff. There is a very nice selection of frames, and the office is clean and roomy. I also liked the fish tanks.
Dr. Shea is awesome. He is so friendly and upbeat. I could tell he really cared about helping me understand everything he was doing and what my options were. He answered tons of questions and took his time with me. Other pluses for the exam itself: he used a machine that does the glaucoma test without the unnerving *puff* that blows in your eye. He also used a new light machine (it looks like a light saber) that allows him to see deep into the eyes without needing to dilate the pupils. It all was super easy, efficient, and effective.
I had researched online – including on Unilocal – before trying out a new eye doctor (having recently moved and not wanting to drive all the way to Long Beach to see the former one). Based only on reviews, this place wasn’t my first choice initially (it was my third), but the after phoning the first two – one of which didn’t take my insurance, despite being listed as one of their providers, the other not having an appointment open for weeks – I am really happy with this outcome. The professionalism, friendliness, and honesty here will bring me back again. Thank you Nuview!

Dr. Shea is the best. He is the first, and only, person to fit me with contact lenses on the first visit in 50 years. Great comfort and vision. He tells you like it is and has a great sense of humor.
Five years ago my wife had a tragic stroke and lost all of her vision except for the right hemisphere in her right eye. No vision in the left eye. So no peripheral vision at all on the left side. Right hemesphere vision at only about ²⁰⁄₁₀₀. So she is legally blind.
Four Ophthalmologists have told her there is nothing that can help her vision. She was examined by an ophthalmologist’s onsite technician in Laguna Hills stating, no help possible.
Recently, while I was with Dr Shea for my second yearly exam, I asked if he thought there was anything that could be done for my wife. She had not been able to read any magazines, newspapers or most importantly letters and email from her mother, who is 97 years old, since the stroke. He said, «Let’s try.» What a great attitude!
Taking unscheduled time for her, in his very busy office, he began his analysis. In about 30 minutes he said he thought he could make it possible for her to read her mother’s email and letters. Also maybe assist in distance vision a little.
After we picked up her new glasses and got home, she sat down and immediately started reading Westways magazine! What a great sight that was. She can also read information from the television, computer and email from our iPhone. Also her distance vision is better.

I was missing the little screw that holds my sunglasses together and came in to Nuview Optometric Center. The staff took care of me right away and my sunglasses were good as new. Knock on wood my eye sight is still ²⁰⁄₂₀ but the day I need eye glasses I will be using their services!

Experience was really great. The environment was super friendly and upbeat. My contact lens eye exam was really fast and one of the staff that helped me take my lens off and put back in, was very patient considering it took over an hour. Dr himself, was overall amazing! Definitely coming back!

Dr Shea is hands down amazing!!! My husband, daughter and I have been his patient for over 3 yrs. We used to come to him even when our insurance didnt cover him, we would come in as cash patients… so worth it. He is one Doctor that totally loves what he does. Super up beat, friendly, always with a smile. Also, his staff is always willing to help and answer any insurance questions we may have.

I just went in yesterday for an examination for myself & daughter. The doctor is super friendly! He is very talkative, friendly & makes you feel very comfortable! Me & my family have been going to his practice for the past 5 – 6 years. The staff get you in the same day & there is no wait. The doctor explains your insurance benefits & what it covers! He explained it so well that I go every year to buy my prescription sunglasses & glasses. My 10yr old daughter absolutely loved him! I definitely recommend you to this place!!! Dr. Shea has been my optometrist for a long time. Since my glasses/​contacts days, and post Lasik per his recommendations. He is compassiona, cares about his patients, and his staff is always friendly and professional. Highly recommended!

I was scared that my eye sight would be 10x worse than before since all i do is sit in front of a computer monitor all day long. Luckily that was not the case. :)
Dr. Shea is one of those doctors who really goes the extra mile. He will tell you what’s going on while he is running eye tests on you. He will explain the machines if you ask.
As far as prices for the glasses, it ranges from 120ish to 400 bucks for the ultra fancy brand named glasses. Thank god for insurance, which brought my pair of ray bans down to about 25 bucks. They have a decent selection from choose from, but if you want choices, i’d suggest you go to a place in rowlands heights or arcadia.
His receptionists are super helpful! They will answer questions regarding your vision insurance if you aren’t too sure how much the deductibles and copays are.
I highly recommend this place.

After a nightmarish experience with Spectrum Optometry the year before, I was desperate to find a good, honest optometrist who would not rip me off.
I dropped in randomly one day while in a neighboring shop to see if Nuview Optometry was contracted with my insurance and made an appointment on the spot. They didn’t seem too busy, which was sort of disconcerting, but what the heck, I needed new frames.
I walked in on the day of my appointment and was promptly greeted by the very enthusiastic and personable Dr. Shea who led me to the exam room. Awesome — no wait time! The exam was quick, easy, and accurate. While I selected my frames, he was very detailed and transparent about the exact amount/​features that my insurance would cover and what my out-​of-​pocket costs would be. He advised me to maximize the benefits of my insurance (e.g., lens coatings, transition lenses, etc are all covered so I should get them) and even told me that it was not unusual for businesses to mark up frames by 300%. At least he’s honest! Before I left, I knew exactly what I was getting and what I would be paying. This is how it should be, but perhaps my past negative experiences lowered the bar somewhat and eliminated any faith I had in the decency of optometry offices.
Nonetheless, Dr. Shea sets the standard. His office never looked busy whenever I’ve passed by, probably because it’s somewhat tucked away in a corner of a large strip mall and not too visible from street and not because the business is lacking in any way. If you’re looking for an optometrist with integrity who is honest and professional, Dr. Shea’s your man.
