We serve patients from age 4 to over 100. We have our own lab so we can make your glasses with a fast turn-​around, high quality, and very reasonable prices.

We stock many types of trial contact lenses from daily disposable to long-​lasting lenses. Dr. Kamkar is certified Kerasoft and SynergEyes fitter with years of experience in treating keratoconus eyes.

Our office is equipped with the latest ophthalmic technology, including Optomap camera, so we can examine the peripheral retina without dilating drops.

History

Established in 1946.

The office has been the oldest optometry practice in Costa Mesa. Dr. Robert Crawford started the business in 1946 and Dr. Martin Dales joined him in the 1950s, and Dr. Thomas Nelson joined in the 1960’s. Dr. Babak (Bob) Kamkar purchased the practice in 1993 and adopted the name Newport Harbor Optometry. Maggie joined the staff in 1994 and is currently the Office Manager. Various optometrists and ophthalmologists have worked in Newport Harbor Optometry over the years, including, Dr. Khodai, Dr. Yoo, Dr. Beletti, Dr. Morton, Dr. Kim, and Dr. Dastgheib.

Dr. Kamkar has been a California licensed optometrist since 1986. He is licensed to diagnose and treat a wide variety of eye conditions, including glaucoma. Additionally, he is a member of the Flying Samaritans, serving the underprivileged population of Baja, Mexico, along with other health care volunteers. He is an active member of the Southern California business and cultural community. Dr. Kamkar is currently the only optometrist in California with the additional credential as a Qualified Medical Evaluator. He is the inventor of the APD Tester, a device used for detection of abnormalities in pupils from nerve disease, various tumors, and sports concussions. Dr. Kamkar has served as an expert witness in courts, including a criminal case.
