Phoenix Games is a diversified game store with an emphasis on the retro and vintage platforms. Got a scratched disc? Then stop by because we offer disc resurfacing too. And If you’re in the mood to play the old school Pac-​Man or Neo Geo arcade games then bring some quarters because we’ve got the original cabinets still for the low price of .25 cents per play (just like in the 80’s). Enjoy pinball? We’ve got 14 machines on site and we rotate new ones in monthly. Or have a seat in one of our state of the art gaming chairs, fitted with speakers in the head rest and a force feedback system that lets you FEEL the explosions as you play using a wall mounted LCD TV. And for the competitive gamer we offer video game tournaments, call the store for details on the latest one. Phoenix Games, enthusiastic employees hopelessly addicted to games and no high pressure sales, we’re the place where games come back to life.

Phoenix Games was created by a fanactical gamer who was frustrated with the endless quest to find classic games from the past and who longed for a store that had more than just the current platforms.

Video games and me go a long way back. They were a fascinating pastime… dropping endless quarters in arcade games, racing over to a friends house after school to play a new video game, staying up late into the night (when I shoulda been sleeping) unlocking new levels, beating the end bosses and coming out as top dog during an online match. But then, I grew up and games sorta got left behind but I always remembered them fondly. Then, one day I decided I wanted all the games I ever played back and that’s how Phoenix Games was born because I was tired of searching EVERYWHERE for old games and simply wanted a store where I could find what I wanted. And I knew I wasn’t the only one who felt this way. And now, I play games all day and interact with other gamers who feel the way I do, it’s great. And to say I love my job is an understatement. Seriously, how could you not love owning a video game store? It’s fun to be a kid all day.

Very impressive store. Unfortunately, it’s too out of the way to get to.
The customer service was awesome. Very friendly and helpful.
Large variety of current and vintage games. I really appreciate the organization and neatness of everything. Also, I do appreciate seeing the pricing on each game. I didn’t have to bother the sales associate about the price of each game unlike other game stores I’ve seen. Lastly, I was amazed by the nice gaming area in the back of the store. The pinball machines and retro arcades are a nice touch to the gaming environment.
Nice spot I would frequent if it wasn’t so far away.

If they don’t have the games you’re looking for leave your name on the wait list. They call back about availability same day and offer 1 day holds on desired items. Very friendly staff. Most used game stores employ snarky, elitist gamers. That isn’t the case here. Every time I’m in they make me want to come back.
Not to mention a large collection of pinball games, this place could turn a quick stop into a multiple hour game session.

I had heard one of my favorite pinball machines (Batman) was located here. When we walked in we thought we were mistaken… But as soon as you walk in the back, you’re thrown back to the days of a classic 80’s arcade (though most machines are now more than a quarter, which is true anywhere these days. Very clean, very well maintained, friendly staff, and a place I’d be perfectly comfortable bringing the family! Thanks for the experience!

This place is like GameStop on steroids! Unlike GameStop which only features modern games, this place goes all the way back to the pong home controller. Not only do they sell old games, but sell old consoles too! Not only that, but they also have a mini arcade in the back. The arcade has pinball and arcade machines. Whether your a hardcore gamer, collector, or even a new gamer, this is one of the best places to go to!

Ok, this place is pretty freaking amazing. I usually go to Gamestop for all my gaming needs, but since I found this place GS will not be seeing me as much.
The games are organized by section (no brainer), but they are displayed in a much neater fashion, showcasing most of the games with only a few having their spines displayed.
The prices are incredible too. Leaving the store with two awesome games in hand for under $ 10.00 is a steal.
The staff are friendly, and they have a bunch of pinball games in the back to play.
Probably my overall favorite thing about this place are the collections of old school games, mainly NES and N64 for me.
They don’t have DVDs as I was hoping for, but for any game lover this place is a must visit.

Very cool retro game store. Although, I live no where close to here (took about 40 minutes to get here from Suisun) I dropped by with my friend today to check out the selection. And boy do they have a selection of classic games! They have a ton of SNES, Nintendo, Game Gear, Dreamcast, Genesis, Xbox 360, Wii and PS3 games. They’re a little light on newer stuff, but I wasn’t shocked since it’s a retro store. They sell consoles as well that’s really cool. My friend picked up a copy of a GBA game with the box still and a few older Wii titles. The owner of the store is very knowledgable and nice as well! They had a Smash Bros tournament going on and in the back they have pinball machines! It’s a fun place overall and although I didn’t pick up anything this time around I will definitely revisit this spot again!

I was very impressed with this place. Not only do they have massive back-​catalogs of all the standard retro gaming platforms to sell, but they’ve also gone the extra mile to put in a small arcade in the back of the store, fostering that hang-​out-​and-​chat atmosphere that us gamers love so much. There is even a small area with two TVs where you can pay-​to-​play by the half-​hour ($ 4⁄30 mins). They have an Xbox One, Dreamcast, N64, Genesis, and original Xbox available for play. Staff were knowledgeable and entertaining. Heck, they even have a working Vectrex available to play for free! If you’re a gamer, you owe it to yourself to hit this place up at least once. You won’t leave disappointed.

Blown away. For whatever reasons, i’ve missed this place and recently visited. Very impressive that they even have all the various retro consoles and games. Very well organized and clean. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. Love pinball too and was even more impressed with the passion these guys have with the machines and upkeep. Definitely best place in EastBay that i’ve seen. First class.

Best location pinball in Concord & the new location holds even more pins! If you are interested in pinball, drop by any time and check out the games. They are well-​maintained and in good shape and a great selection of really top titles.
There’s also a «super league» that anyone can play in any time so ask about that as well as their regular league nights. Pinball is super fun and Phoenix Games is tops!

When it’s time to move, it’s time to clean up, get rid of stuff, donate, sell, do whatever it takes to move less crap. And old video games that don’t get played anymore do nothing but collect dust. So, why not sell them here! Or trade them in for new ones.
Now, before initially coming here, I organized about twenty different video games that I had sitting around: PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, and a few PC games. I first went to a local GameStop, and was pretty much offered pennies for my games. Booooo!!! They didn’t accept PC games, nor does anyone I believe, but GS only offered me $ 3 in total for 8 console games. PASS, I’ll keep them. Then I had a thought, why not see what Phoenix Games would offer?
I arrived and my eyes were just amazed by the huge library of every game out there, as well as seeing the old consoles they carry. It was similar to it’s competitor GameStop, only not as flashy and modern. Relatively about the same in store size. Only GS relies heavily on newer titles to sell quickly, and getting more of their value out of trades. Understandable. Phoenix Games felt more like an old baseball card shop. A feeling I miss from the early 90s. Not to mention seeing the vintage Vectrex console and PONG.
So, I present my games to the lady at the register, Cai. Mind you she gave me excellent service. I had an offer, and we came to an agreement; 10 games, $ 17 of store credit or $ 10 cash. Whoa, I thought! Were they for real? This offer versus crappy GS’s offer of three bucks! Cool deal, I took the cash. Had I not been moving away, I would’ve definitely taken the store credit. No hassle, no fuss, no problems.
While waiting for Cai to go through my games, I gave the whole store a rundown and was taken back even more. Why? Because they have an old school arcade and pinball section in the back! Really cool, it’s like the 80s all over again. You wanna relive playing TRON with a joystick an paddle, they’ve got it! Pac-​man and Joust, it’s here! Or if you’re just modern gaming fanboy, they’ve got little tournament chairs set up as well. Really RAD! Check it out if you can!

This place is pretty good for retro games. Some selection is good, some bad. depending on the console.
GB/​GBA, bad.
NES, decent… lots of commons, some hidden gems.
SNES, bad.
Genesis, bad… lots of sports titles.
PS1, ok.
Dreamcast, ok.
It also seems they don’t go actively looking for rare/​collectable/​hidden gems and that they rely only on trade-​in luck. Would be nice to see some more collectable or sought after stuff here.
I’ll be coming back regularly.

I was up in San Francisco for one day, and I could only visit Phoenix Games for about 10 minutes, and I have never cried more about not having enough time to stay at a store. I looked through for about 10 minutes, and picked up a couple things, but I could’ve easily picked up more. On top of which, I was disappointed that they didn’t have any more of the rare games that which I was looking for like Strider 2 or Skies of Arcadia.
That being said, this was one of the best stores I have ever been to. I mean a boxed Sega Dreamcast for $ 65? I didn’t even have a chance to ask for the boxed Virtual Boy, which I should’ve gotten.
They have a great stock, their prices are extremely fair and are in favor of the customer, the service there is very hospitable, and they have a Play-​Choice 10. That alone is enough of a reason to stop by and say hello.
Honestly, I have no complaints. Other than the fact they were out of stock of the rarer titles, which not only is that expected as their prices are great, but if you’re local and don’t live 400 miles away, odds are they will have those rarer titles in stock.
I’ve been to many video game stores in California, and while my personal favorite is still Luna Video Games in San Diego, CA, this is not just a close second. This can arguably be the greatest retro video game store in the ENTIRE state of California. With California being the third largest state in the United States, that is an accomplishment.
As a hardcore gamer, I felt so much at home, and I only wish I could’ve stayed longer. I might have gotten that Virtual Boy.

Very engaging staff and store. There are classic arcade games, like pinball, available to play. The nostalgia is strong. They also offer resurfacing services and I believe repair services as well.
My personal favorite part was the amount of space dedicated to classic Nintendo games. When they learned I was a classic Nintendo collector they offered to give me a call when anything unusual for N64 came through the store. And much to my surprise they actually followed through a few weeks later when they had an orange N64 available.
Great shop but FYI their location has moved a few blocks from where Google says it is.

This place is a hidden treasure for me. There’s no place that can take me back to when I was 15 years old, & enjoy that Arcade feel. Those 2D sounds, old school arcade machines, pinball. Black lights, just like those underground arcade stores. On top of it all, its a store that sells games, trades, repairs. Even the location is great, many places to eat right on the block. The staff rocks, great customer service, helpful, & know their stuff. Really enjoy spending time with my 10 year old, or going alone. Like I said, goldmine !
