Dream Body Boot Camp

Matt Johnson accepted paid in full memberships and now can not pay us and several other members back because he is bankrupt. I have reported him to the FTC and he will be under investigation for fraud. Don’t do business with him.

Time for me to call «7 on Your Side» with Michael Finney to help get these Con Artists to pay up!

Just as others have stated, Matt closed the doors with only 1 week notice. Claimed he was looking for other space. Now he claims he can’t open because of lack of funds. I know I paid for 6 months and had 5 months remaining. He is ignoring my requests for reimbursement. Horrible thing to do to others. Going to file with Consumer Protection Agency.

If possible I would give NO stars! I did the Groupon thing etc. They make you use your credit card to secure your consultation which is a joke! If you don’t show you get charged. Matt the RUDE owner and trainer doesn’t care what you have to say or what you need. All he wants is the waiver/​release of liability signed. And omg don’t talk about any health issues cause he looks at you crazy and makes you feel stupid. I have been meaning to write some kind of review about him for a year now. Better late than never.

Matt Johnson stole everyone’s money and closed this business. He is a liar and crook — beware!!! He has done this before and shut down a bootcamp in San Diego with a BBB rating of F.

The business closed with short notice. Matt (owner) would not refund annual memberships that had been paid in full. In some respects, these were the most loyal customers of the business. I understand if a business suffers hard financial times, but be honest. It shouldn’t be a risk if not in business anymore. Caution if it pops up somewhere else.

This place isn’t that good… It’s small and has really inconvenient times to workout. It doesn’t have a shower. The prices are way too high for the kind of workout you get. The workouts are also repetitive and I don’t feel much of a challenge at all. I bought the groupon which was for 6 weeks. Total amount of days I went was probably a week total. Just that unimpressed.

Great quality boot camp but they unfortunately lost their lease on the space. Bummer because I am out the rest of my prepaid gym time but more because I gotta start from zero all over again on the search for a good workout in the CoCo area. And right at holiday season, too.

I highly DON’T recommend this place. Came here for about a month and was enjoying the workouts in the beginning but did notice the workouts can be very repetitive. Thought I’d give it a try for another month since there are slim pickings for bootcamps in the area. When I went to renew for a second month, they double charged my credit card! Instead of handling the matter in a professional business manner, they took over a week to even aknowledge my complaint which forced me to report it to my credit card company. Because I did that, they ended up sending me a really nasty email accusing me of being a fraudulent customer because I wanted them to clear the charge… hello?! YOU double charged me! Still boggles my mind. On top of that they never apologized for their actions, very poor service, and just plain rude. Never ever again!

There is not another gym like this in the area! (Trust me, because I have a girl friend who used to go every day, then moved to Alameda county, and was even debating to come to night classes, despite the long commute! She tried other gyms and boot camps in her area, but none like Matt’s.)
I have yet to meet somebody, who I recommended to this gym, and didn’t get the best full body workout they’ve ever had.
Matt Johnson and his wife Tori are very positive and energetic, (I love them!!) which makes going to class fun. Your body will be sore day to day, but you will be addicted to the soreness and classes!
I’ve been going to Dream Body for over a year now, and let me just tell you, that I have never been in the best shape of my life, and same goes with my boyfriend, and my best friend. We were already pretty active people, and in good shape, but Dream Body got us those definitions and cuts, we never thought possible. (My boyfriend never had abs in his life, and he is a gym rat, but within a few weeks, his abs were peaking through! We were both very impressed with our results).
I would say Matt’s classes are like a more intense P90X, because you get more cardio in. I prefer Matt’s classes over at home DVDs though, because you have more accountability, and are shown the correct ways to make your exercise more efficient.
There are no ellipticals or complicated machines at Dream Body, and you don’t need ‘em ladies… just bring a water bottle, positive energy, a towel (cus you’re gonna need it!!), and some good gym shoes (I reccommend minimalist shoes, because the floors there are very padded) GO!!! You won’t regret it. :)

I am giving this fitness boot camp five stars because they are most challenging work outs I have ever done. When compared to what I have done at my best, in a regular gym, these works are FAR superior. Each time I go I leave knowing I have worked on my entire body. I hurt from calves to shoulders. My abs have never ached post work out to this degree.
You will love to hate these workouts. Matt is great. He gives us modifications as needed and is there to guide, encourage and correct as needed.
If you’re ready for your best fitness challenge yet, come try it out.
My husband lifts weights everyday (he is in extremely good shape) and is sure he knows the pain I am feeling. I call bullshit and am dying for him to join me for just one single work out with Matt. I think he will have a whole new respect for what I AM doing.
Anyway, regardless of your fitness level (I am a beginner, after years and years away from really working out) you can do this. It will push your body and mind to limits you probably have never even dreamed yourself capable of. Even though I have a long, long way to go I feel amazing just for dragging my butt in there and truly pushing myself time and time again.
Go hard or go home! Just do it!

I am absolutely appalled that this place gets any good reviews or has customers.
I adore boot camp and was an avid boot camper in Livermore, but when I moved out this way I had to find a better place. I do not need or want to lose weight but I enjoy the structured and fun atmosphere of boot camp.
I was excited when I found this place because it looked like it would be so good. And having my company willing to pay for any gym I join I thought this would be great place to try. When I went to the first day the trainer was nice and the work out was fine, I had definitely experience better but didn’t want to hold anyone to high standards. I had gone two more times and each time the workout consisted of at least 2 of the same exercises working the same muscle groups.
Not only do they not switch up their exercises so the workouts are boring they also do not correct form. I’m surprised they don’t have law suites yet for negligence.
Matt, the owner sent an email with a survey. I said nothing but nice things until the comments section where I politely stated I was disappointment because when I tracked my calories burned it was only 200 where my old boot camp was 900 in only 45 minutes. Instead of making helpful suggestions or offering me to come to a class he was instructing he told me I wasn’t pushing myself and it was completely my fault. I agreed that maybe I was bored and didn’t push myself. I can not believe the service!
I would NOT recommend this gym to anyone!

I hate this bootcamp. I hate it for how AWESOME IT IS! I used to live in San Francisco and now I live in Oakland. I was trying to find myyyy place because that’s half the battle when figuring out a schedule and routine for working out. I was introduced to the amazing Matt from my coworker and I went twice. But the LONG drive to Concord made it so inconvenient!
So I decided to be a bit of a bootcamp hizzoe and try them all. The first one just wasn’t giving me that same «good soreness» that I got from DBBC. The second one was really far away and started at 6am and 7am. No evening options. The third one had cute little moms that were doing basic workouts. I just wasn’t getting my fix. My coworker also tried other ones… but there’s something about DBBC… it’s a monopoly!
A couple more things about Matt and his bootcamp:
1) He’s funny and motivating! He pushes you, but not to the point where you want to quit. His workouts are reasonable and you leave feeling very accomplished.
2) He authentically cares about your progress. He emails tips, tricks, and food lifestyles to help you keep on your weight loss goals. He’s definitely all about the entire package.
Cons:
–It’s in Concord but I guess there are people out there so yay for them…
–I would LOVE to see a 3^rd evening class at 8pm for us commuters
–There are no showers but there is a restroom
Pros:
It’s the BEST. THE BEST. Trust me… I’ve been arrrrrouuund! But there is no other bootcamp that gives such awesome results. And the crowd that goes there is fabulous! Authentic real people that are so awesome and inspiring to workout with. And Rachel?! The other workout instructor? Don’t get me started on her. My arms are still sore from mountain climbers and pushups! But I love that feeling! I feel so accomplished!

This is hands down the best bootcamp in the bay area! Matt is great, energetic, and motivational! The whole dreambody team is awesome! I work out sometimes at 5am and other times after work and Matt and staff are always ready and pumped to give you a great workout. I love the location it’s central to work or home. Everyone that comes there are all different and are focused on there personal goals, no show boats just real people. I am happy to have found this place. I’m hooked!

Seriously the best bootcamp you can find. I’m terrible about being consistent, and I love trying everything — so I don’t say this lightly. Even though I don’t come often, it’s one of the best workouts you can get. Cardio, weights, HIIT, everything at once. I’ve tried a bunch of different bootcamps in the area (and out of town) and this one is seriously the best.
Admittedly, this was the first bootcamp I tried, so I wanted to try everything else that people said was the best. BUT, after trying all of those, I guarantee this one is top notch. You get the best workout, in a group setting, and you never feel judged. Matt is there to help, and he’s really serious about trying to make you the best that you can possibly be.
WIth other bootcamps, the trainer just comes around and yells numbers, and when to change. WIth Matt, he takes the time to provide individual attention, and roots everyone on. You never feel shamed because everyone is supportive.
I still hate working out, but this is one of the best places, and most effective ways to do it. I’m repeating myself, but seriously, if group workouts is your thing, try this. Feel free to try everywhere else, but you’ll quickly realize Matt has the best bootcamp by far.

Don’t let the negative reviews hold you back from coming here!
Initially the negative reviews turned me off to this place. Then one day I decided to just try it out for myself, found a great deal on groupon and went. I’m so glad that I didn’t pass on giving DBBC a chance! I only go to the early morning 5:30 class on weekdays it’s always challenging, the trainers are great and it isn’t too crowded or warm in there at that time.
Yes, the workouts are challenging with a lot of jumping/​aerobics. I have a shin injury but have found ways to modify so it doesn’t stop me from doing my thing. Also, the trainers (at least Matt) DO give you simple modifications you just have to listen to what they are saying!
An added bonus are the little emails during the week filled with information and encouragement that will keep you motivated.
If you’re on the fence, just go for it I promise you won’t regret it.

OK, so I just have to start out by saying I have tried several bootcamps in SF and the East Bay… three to be exact. Plus I tried Yoga Works and Funky Door Yoga. I was a member of 24 Hour Fitness for over 10 years and was also a member of Club Sport and Crunch. Out of all of those places, I haven’t seen as much as an improvement as I have in my time at DBBC.
I was going through a Groupon/​LivingSocial/​AmazonLocal phase buying up deals just for the heck of it and came across this one for the 6-​week flat belly bootcamp. With all my skeptism from past bootcamps and gym memberships, I took a leap of faith and was determined to go to classes at least 3x a week. What an improvement I noticed. I would say, it’s unfortunate that they do not do measurements of body fat or weight during your consultation, but I did for myself. In less than 3 weeks, I had lost almost 10 lbs going 3x week and am continuing to notice an improvement in the overall tone throughout my body. I loved the bootcamp so much I signed up for a full membership. I’m 3 months in and hope to continue this momentum.
The workouts are AWESOME. Some are more difficult than others, but you just have to be determined. If you’re not mentally or emotionally there, then you won’t see results as fast as you might want. The first 10 minutes are focused on the warm up, then depending on how big the class is, you generally get 2x the opportunity to complete each station. The last 5 minutes are cooling down stretches.
On top if the awesome workouts, Matt also sends out weekly motivational emails and nutrition tips. Something I’ve only ever received from personal trainers.
I have to agree with other reviewers who say that they expect a little more personalization or attention, but Matt & Rachel are helping you along the way with every station correcting your form, if needed. They are good at what they do and keeping you motivated.
I think it takes a mix of determination and discipline to see results and if you think you have what it takes, then this place is for you.

I have nothing but positive things to say about DBBC!
The workouts are challenging and fun… and you are in and out in one hour!
There is a good mix of ages. There are more women than men, but there are men.
I also love how accessible Matt (the owner) is for questions… he responds quickly and makes sure your questions are answered.
Gyms and boot camps are expensive (no matter which one you decide to try), but DBBC offers a lot of great introductory deals. I think that is helpful because it lets you really try it out before making a decision.
If you are in the market for a boot camp, I definitely recommend you check out DBBC!

Ok, I am the worst person ever to do workouts and stick to it. I have found DBBC on a Groupon and decided it is time to get fit once and for all. I am in my third week of doing bootcamp every other day and I love it!
Matt and Rachael (and all of the boot campers) are amazing in their motivation and support. They never scream and shout at you, they will instead encourage you and show you the right way of doing the exercises.
The Facebook messages and daily emails are always welcomed and I am finally determined to lose all my excess weight and get fit and stick with the program.
So glad I found this place at the right time!

I’ve participated in a lot of bootcamps and fitness programs throughout the years. I thoroughly enjoy Dream Body Bootcamp. The workouts are challenging every time, you not only feel stronger each time you go but the results are noticeable. I enjoy the variety and the fact that he occasionally posts at home workouts on his facebook page.
I went to the 7am classes and was very happy with how many people were there. Usually there were no more than 10 – 20 people in the mornings. That being said I decide to get off work early one day and head to a 5:00pm class. It was so crowded that I couldn’t even find a place on the mat to do the warm up. I didn’t see how I was going to get a solid workout when I couldn’t even find a place to stand, so I left. So be wary of the evening classes and if you can attend the 5:30am or 7am classes.
There are only a couple things I’d like to see changed before I give it a solid 5 stars…
1) (my big grievance) and I’ve seen this mentioned on the other Unilocal reviews is that there seems to be no real investment on YOUR personal goals, or any personalization for that matter. I’ve been going for a month and I don’t think Matt has introduced himself to me or any of my other friends that I got to buy the groupon either. I did a class the other day that was only 3 people and he still didn’t bother to ask our names. Personally, if I were to invest the money into a bootcamp like this I would want to feel like my trainer was taking a personal interest in my health and well being. I did crossfit as a guest in Concord once and the trainer spent more time with me than Matt has in a month. Now don’t get me wrong, matt is a great trainer, does a really good job but I would like to see him at least try to remember ANYBODY’S name haha!
2) I really wish they offered a morning class every day. Especially after experiencing the chaos and cattle calling that was the evening classes. I LOVE the 7am class and think it’s the perfect start to my Monday’s, Wednesday’s and Fridays :)
Overall I recommend purchasing the groupon or doing the Unilocal deal. As for after you’ve completed the deal… I’ve been told it’s upwards of $ 200 a month. Not only is that unrealistic for pretty much anyone, it’s thievery. I know of plenty of other bootcamps that offer more class times at just a good of value for around $ 75. I’d pay $ 75 hands down for this bootcamp.
