Thrifty Movers

I hired these movers to help me move my half of a 2br townhouse. The movers, Scotty and John called me when they were on their way, arrived on time, and did a great job moving everything. They were friendly and hardworking and took good care of my belongings. I had to empty a 55 gal aquarium as they were moving, and they were great about letting me put the tank and stand in the truck last with 5 gal buckets containing the fish. They unpacked everything quickly at my new place as I set the tank up, and I couldn’t be happier with their service. Their prices were very affordable but they did not compromise on quality. Highly recommended.

THE SERVICE.
We used these guys for our move into our new house. The move itself went really well, the only exception being a broken set of glasses and a mattress pad that got lost in the process (we had them store our stuff for two weeks before taking it to our new home). All in all, we were pleased at this point as our movers were very pleasant, engaging and incredibly hard working. Had it ended here, I would have given these guys 4 Stars. But it didn’t end here. Instead, shit got really weird.
THE POST-​SERVICE.
At the time, this company had their general liability certificate posted on their website. The thing about general liability certificates is, you give them to people so that they can have access to your insurance carrier. So rather than bother these guys, I assumed they just wanted me to call the number listed on the certificate to file a claim — which I did with regard to the glasses and mattress pad. Silly me.
I received an email back from this company that was easily ten paragraphs long. Easily. I skimmed the first and last couple of paragraphs, which basically took issue with me contacting their insurance carrier directly. I replied that I didn’t care who paid for it, we just wanted our broken stuff replaced.
SHIT. GETS. WEIRD.
That’s when shit went seriously sideways. Shortly after hitting send on that email, my phone rings… at 11:00 am on a Tuesday. It’s the movers, and I don’t answer because I’m working. So they call again. And again. And again. And then like three more times. I shit you not, I had six missed calls from them in less than forty-​five minutes. Then they email me. That email mentions their deductible policy and references the first email they sent me (the epic poem that I didn’t read). Sure enough, buried in that email, is an explanation of their deductible policy; the long and the short of which was that our loss was under the deductible we agreed to pay for lost/​broken items when we signed our contract. Naturally, and still to this day, I never read that contract.
Fair enough. I waived my right to be reimbursed for the $ 200 that we lost. That doesn’t mean I still can’t save a little face. So I sent a reply email asking them to send me an electronic copy of the signed agreement (who wants to trudge through records just to prove that they can prove that they don’t owe me anything?), and that proposed to resolve everything by letting me hire them for another move with a discount thrown in (my pride would have accepted just $ 10 off at this point). Wins all around, right? Right guys?
Wrong. Wronger than Bobbi Christina’s dating choices, and with consequences that were just as strange.
I immediately get another phone call that I still can’t answer. I get a third email which asks me to call them, to which I respond that I would after the conference call I was on. Then I get another email from them saying «Great. I will have your lead mover, Scotty, in the office when you call. thanks [sic].» I don’t respond, and I don’t know why that’s relevant. Two minutes later I get another email from them (that’s five emails and seven phone calls, all during my conference call, in case anyone’s lost track) saying: «…With any complaint, regardless of how bit [sic] or small, it is my job to investigate possible mover neglect or possible customer insurance fraud…» …What? Maybe I’m just sensitive, but I think he just implied that I tried to defraud the insurance company out of a whopping $ 200 (side note: it’s the insurance company’s job to investigate insurance fraud, not the insured’s. so there’s literally no reason for him to say that other than, you know, the implication). That’s when I get an email from my wife asking why she just got a call from the movers (five emails/​eight calls/​less than 1.5 hours).
Finally I’m able to call this dude. Here are the highlights:
1. He says he’s never, in nine years in ‘the business’, heard of a mattress pad costing $ 150 dollars (do you even macy’s, bro?
);
2. He says insurance claims are treated as complaints. When they have complaints, they automatically suspend the movers without pay. Scotty (apparently on the call) hasn’t been paid since I decided to complain;
3. He says he’s never, in nine years in ‘the business’, had someone call their insurance company to file a claim. He asks why I did (again with the implication), and I tell him because the insurance certificate’s on the website, so why wouldn’t I? He responds by saying they just took it down from the website.
4. He says more things.
5. I (yelling) call him a fucking amateur, partly because I mean it and partly because it’s the perfect time to quote Walter Sobchak.
6. I hang up on him.

Feel free to use these guys if you want cheap movers. Never. Ever. Contact them with any critical feedback. Ever.

I used America’s Choice/​FastGood4Cheap Moving Service for an out-​of-​state move (OH to PA). They are awesome! They respond promptly to emails. They’re VERY punctual upon pickup and drop off, friendly, professional, and most importantly, took good care of my stuff. The credit card option was great too, for people like me who don’t always have cash on hand! (There’s a convenience fee of 3 or so percent, which was reasonable)
Don’t judge their no-​frills website — they don’t need the frills!

Nick and Scott just left my new apartment and I have to commend both of them. They started promptly at my house, then unloaded a storage unit and moved everything into my new place in under 2 ½ hours. Really friendly and super efficient. The price was half of anything I had been quoted before. I’ll recommend you guys to anyone. Thanks again!

I don’t think I’ve ever seen 2 guys work harder in my life! Romance and Chris didn’t let any challenging piece of furniture or narrow staircase defeat them. They were friendly and maintained a positive attitude. The whole move had become exhausting and at one point, both of them gave me a pep-​talk and made me laugh. I have no idea what bigger, fancier movers have that these guys don’t! Don’t spend money you don’t have to and be prepared for hard-​workers and moral support! Thanks to all!

Wasn’t too sure about this company, based on the no frills website, but everything went smoothly. Scheduling the move was easy, and they answered all of my questions quickly and thoroughly. I was kind of concerned that a company this cheap would have something wrong with it, but the service was fantastic.
Scotty and Jake called before arriving, then proceeded to move everything out of my third floor apartment (king mattress/​box springs, washer/​dryer/​couch and loveseat) within 45 minutes. They explained all charges, which matched up with the internet quote I’d received. Moving objects into my new apartment was a bit trickier, as the couch wouldn’t fit downstairs, but they were happy to set up the couch in the upstairs living room and move an older couch out to the garage.
Don’t let the bare bones website fool you; this is quality and professional service at an amazing price. I was getting quotes of over $ 500 from other movers in the area, and this ended up costing $ 160 (before tip)!
They take cash and credit (additional fee for credit card processing). I will recommend this company to my friends and family and use them for all of my future moves.

Any predominately cash only business in the 21^st century is a bit sketchy but hey you can’t beat their prices (processing fee with card). Truck and supplies might have seen better days but they did the job, well for the most part. The flat rate is the way to go as it gave us cost certainty.
Few issues, they showed up about 2 hours earlier than we were told which left us scrambling to finish the packing. Also, couldn’t get the box springs upstairs which after some measuring we were able to get through the windows after they left.
Overall, worked out well for an in-​town move.

they also zig zagged around the large chocolate lab, 5 year old that wanted to help get stuff off the truck and 1 year old that roamed around. we went back for a second load and this was the only time they say down — as the drove the truck!!! what an amazing deal!!!

I was very pleased with the movers from thrifty. They were professional and efficient and got my move from a one bedroom on a third floor landing completed in 2 hours. I highly recommend them and feel that their rates are very affordable.

These guys were incredibly efficient! We had Brandon and Daniel come to one apartment to haul out a washer and dryer then went to the house I was moving from. All of that took about an hour and a half. They were so incredibly strong and efficient in loading up the truck and doing so in a way that protected my belongings. My new place has 32 stairs to go up… and they didn’t even slow down! I was so impressed with the ability to load up the new house with heavy furniture, boxes and appliances. Not only were they efficient, but they are a very affordable price at $ 60 an hour. For $ 300 (with a $ 100 tip — they were awesome!) we were done with our moving in under 3 hours. Money well spent!
