Doubletree Suites by Hilton Hotel Columbus Downtown

Certainly not what I expected. Time for a makeover at this hotel. Room was large with a great view but also poorly lit with mostly drab color everywhere. Windows were filthy. Furnishings were also a bit dated. Wifi was a challenging connection so finding things of local interest was especially tough as no guide to anything in the hotel or nearby could be found. Thank heavens for the Gideons. At least they did their job. Hampton at least has an in-​room guide that always tells me about the free breakfast, where I can get a pizza and other items of local interest.
Our stay came with a free continental breakfast. We arrived at the restaurant reception desk and were NEVER seated. We had to find staff and we were told we could just sit anywhere. After we realized that the continental breakfast was little more than toast we opted for the up charge buffet only to find NO PLATES. We solved this by sticking our heads into the kitchen and taking some off of a cart. We filled our plates and had a seat. Halfway through our meal we were finally asked if we would like some coffee. Coffee was good. The fact that we were so poorly treated at 10:00 AM on a Sunday is unacceptable.
Like many downtown hotels this property is not cheap. Maybe it should be.

I’ve stayed at this property several times now and never found it to be anything but great. The service is always excellent, the staff is friendly and is very customer focused. Of course it doesn’t hurt at all that this property is only suites.
The food is good, the fact they’ve got a nice restaurant, full Starbucks menu and room service make it so you don’t have to leave if you don’t want to. They’ve also got a great all inclusive gym.

Check-​in was E-​Z, no issue, except they fixed our A/​C within 10 mins after we reported. When we checked, I paid $ 22.00 for parking and the parking garage only charge $ 17.00 for overnight! Be aware!!!

Rooms are spacious. Staff is friendly. Wifi works well. The area around the hotel is pretty and it seems like a very safe neighborhood. I liked the warm cookie I got when I checked in. Note: no radio or device to plug in your Ipod was in the room. Breakfast service in their café was painfully slow and expensive.

I had a horrible experience staying at a doubletree several months ago and was given a certificate for one night to give them another try. My experience was worse than the last time! Doubletree apparently has really gone down hill… I will never stay at another Doubletree again.
This particular location is a good walk to downtown where north market and the restaurants are so just be aware when making reservations. We arrived and the parking situation is not that great, you share a public parking garage and it costs $ 22 per night with no valet. It’s hard to get your luggage to and from the car due to the location of parking. You have to go up to the lobby and then another elevator to the main floors. I could live with that .the issue was the cleanliness and the service.
The king room was a very nice size but very dated and our room was not clean. Stains on the walls, bathroom was not clean, shower still had hair in it!
The bar in the restaurant is fine, if you are lucky enough to get the good bartender otherwise you have someone that doesn’t know the first thing about making a drink. Which leads me to the free breakfast from the restaurant. I was not expecting 5 star dining but again cleanliness and service horrible! The breakfast buffet was laid out with over cooked sausage and bacon, stale bread and bagels, eggs were never brought out. We sat down, lay our napkins out and were appalled to have hair all over our napkins! As if that wasn’t enough that evening our neighbors decided to have a party until 6 AM. We awoke to very loud yelling and laughing, etc. about 3 AM. We called down to the front desk continuously but no one ever did anything about it. These walls must be paper thin because it was as if they were in the same room with us! Sorry, will not be staying here again. I love Hilton properties but I am done with this one!

This hotel is not what it used to be when stayed last in 2009. Not what we expect from Hilton. The good: location. Spacious rooms, very comfortable beds. The not so good. The room was not very clean. The glasses on the bar had what appeared to be dried alka seltzer in the bottom of the glass. Lights in the bathroom were burnt out. Toilet seat broken. Towel hook fell off the wall. Bath tub won’t drain. The couch very hard and uncomfortable. We used the pillows from the bedroom. Our Amex was charged $ 100 dollars after we checked in, we only found this out by our email alert on that account. We called the desk and it was explained it was anticipated charges on the room. The must be physic. Did not like that what so ever. Okay only four more nights and we are out of here and won’t be back. Takes too much effort on our part to stay here.

I was pleasantly surprised by the Double Tree. Considering the low Unilocal ratings I reserved rooms with low expectations. However, my room was clean, plush, spacious, quiet, and comfortable. I spent 4 days here on business and would definitely return. My only gripes were with the elevator system and lack of continental breakfast. Also, the
workout facility is really top notch. Puts places like planet fitness to shame.

I’m a longtime Hilton HHonors gold member, and this location is not up to par with others. It’s not run down yet, but definitely shabby or well-​worn. Water stains on the ceiling tiles in the hall, frayed carpet, the usual signs that either maintenance is not being kept up or a capital upgrade is needed. I requested extra pillows through the app three days before u checked in, but either the app doesn’t work or this hotel ignores those requests. I found only one bath towel in the entire room so I called the front desk for more. 30 minutes later I still had nothing, so I called again. They acknowledged the original request and said they would tell housekeeping again (I’m not holding my breath). Usually I would just grab one off a housekeeping cart, but when I poked my head into the hallway at 9:30 AM, there was no one in sight. As a person who spends 40 – 50 nights per year in a hotel, I know that is very odd. No housekeeping making the usual rounds first thing in the morning?
The only good thing I can say is that the suites are incredibly large, at least on the reserved HHonors floors.

Had to place a $ 50 per night hold on our credit card for a 4 night stay for incidentals??? I have stayed at this hotel a few years ago and this new policy change did not go over well with any of us. Also had to hold the entire price of the room on our card even though she wouldn’t let us just pay cash at check in. Our room that is supposed to occupy 6 can only have 5 people on the check in and we only received 3 towels. I had ordered a few requests for our room on their website and none of those things happened. Staff was nice but not at all understanding of our situation. We are here for a conference and I know they cater to that but seem unprepared.
Hotel itself is very nice, nicely decorated and our room is pretty large, but I would probably not stay here again.

So I gotta give praise where praise is due. Jim and his team have completely turned around my impression of this Hotel. We arrived and immediately were taken to our room which had a great view of the river, city and the Fireworks. The room was amazing and once we got settled, a bottle of champagne and desserts came to our room for our anniversary. Jim took care of our room, parking and more importantly memories of our 17 year anniversary. What a great surprise tonight has been. Jim thank you and your team for your Hospitality.

In reality, I would probably give this hotel 3.5 stars for various reasons. It is recently renovated and has a clean welcoming feel; but there some flaws that could be fixed.
Pros
–Large room size, especially corner rooms
–quiet and tranquil
–Wonderful full fitness center (racquet ball, spa, sauna, steam room, locker rooms, clean quality athletic equipment)
–Friendly service
–Central location in the city
Cons
–Expensive restaurant, food not worth the price
–House keeping isn’t could be more through (dusty furniture, no sheets for fold out couch)
–Central heating/​cooling isn’t very reliable – as of March 2015 – air that comes in makes rooms feel warm and stuffy. Staff states that the air conditioning doesn’t come on until April
Over all, it is a decent hotel centrally located downtown with great access to Short North, OSU, CCAD, German Village, and more.

It’s not worth it. I spent $ 220 for a Deluxe Suite (per night). Probably the 2^nd most expensive room that they have.
1. parking is expensive and confusing.
2. stale cold cookies upon entrance. They also claim there are no nuts, but there’s definitely nuts mixed into the cookies.
3. I reserved directly with the hotel and told them 3 people were staying. Nothing was set up for 3 people. Water, cups, towels, etc…
4. bathroom fan didn’t work
5. refrigerator didn’t work.
6. heater hardly worked. Woke up 2 days in a row shivering. (During winter storm Linus).
7. No free internet.
8. rude, unhelpful staff.
9. Place is old and needs to be redone/​refurbished.
This is the exact conversation I had with the front desk:
me: «Hi, just an FYI room 916 has a few issues. The refrigerator, bathroom fan, and heater don’t work.»
Man at desk looks at me funny. «have you informed maintenance about this?»
How am I supposed to inform maintenance? I’m the guest.

Let me tell you about my terrifying experience at this hotel.
I usually come to Columbus twice a month and stay at the Hilton Hotel on North High street but that hotel was booked at the moment. So I decided to stayed at the Double Tree hotel from July 14^th to the 18^th. The building itself was bit outdated but has been kept clean. When I checked into the hotel on July 14^th around 6pm, I got the vibe the front desk staff are not as friendly as the other hotels I’ve been to in the area. When I checked into the hotel, I realized the toilet in my room didn’t flush well. I had to hold the handle down for about 10 seconds to flush the toilet well. It still worked and I’m very OCD about maintenance or housekeeping in my room so I decided not to make a big deal.
Here is when it gets worst. It was July 16^th, around 10pm. I was taking a shower with the music on. While I was still in the shower, I heard someone’s voice. I thought it was next door, but I heard the same guy’s voice again. I knew nobody would be in the room because I had the «do not disturb» sign on my door knob. I turned the water off and yelled «hello!!!». And the guy yelled «maintenance!». At that moment my heart sank to the floor because I was so scared. Imagine being a petite female in the shower and hearing a random guy’s voice in your own hotel room. I yelled back at him to ask him to please leave my room but I did not stop hearing his voice. He was obviously trying to tell me something but I did not care anything but my safety at that time. (I don’t understand why he didn’t immediately leave my room when he realized he invaded my privacy) When I didn’t hear his voice anymore, I heard the phone ring. It was the front desk to let me know that the maintenance was in my room because the water leaked to the floor below me. I was so shocked at that time I was shivering and shaking. I went downstairs to speak to the front desk. They apologized and explained that the maintenance knocked on my door once they received a water leakage complaint from the floor below me. When I didn’t answer my door, the maintenance decided to open the door. I asked for the manager because I was still shocked and furious at this situation. They said the manager was not here at the moment. Which doesn’t make sense to me because I thought there were night shift managers on site ²⁴⁄₇.
Anyways, to conclude my long review. I will list everything that went wrong at my stay.
1. Privacy invasion.
2. Maintenance guy — poor judgement of the situation. He should have left the room immediately once he realized someone was in the room.
3. Front desk — Instead of calling me after the maintenance barged into my room, they should have called me ahead of time to confirm if I was in the room.
4. Manager off duty — Does this exist? No night shift manager? If it does, the manager should have contacted me once he/​she was on duty the next day to check up on their customer. Obviously they don’t care how their customer’s stay was.
I made sure to tell my story to everybody I knew in Columbus, OH to ensure they don’t experience similar situation. My colleagues travel a lot for work and I made sure to tell them this is not the hotel they will be safe in.
If you’re looking into staying here, please think again.

The rooms here are very large, if you get a conrer, the rooms are enormous.
The rooms are quite nice.

My husband and I had a romantic city getaway at this clean, cool, and quiet hotel during the Rib and Jazz festival. I used 12,000 Hilton Honors points and $ 50 to reserve the room, and because I booked online I was well aware of the $ 22 daily parking fee, which included in and out privileges.
Our room was a king 2-​room riverview suite encompassing about 625 square feet, which I believe is their standard room. The living room had a sofabed, chair with ottomon, bistro table and chairs, large desk and chair, tv, and wet bar with sink, mini fridge, and microwave. The bedroom was separated with double French doors and had another chair with ottoman. There were plenty of dresser drawers in both rooms.
We found the size of the room and the view to be luxurious, and the furnishings and décor were new and modern. We do tend to book Hilton family hotels, and we will definitely be staying at this Doubletree in the future.

My husband and I were on a business trip & stayed here many times on our visits to Columbus. Their staff service is always great no matter how busy they are they still do their best to accomodate. It is always very clean which is a MUST for me. The lobby is on the 2^nd floor separate from the main doors… really weird lay out. The parking is a little weird too. There aren’t too many restaurants walking distance, esp ones that are open late.
This review is for my most recent visit. This last visit I am giving them 4 stars but it usu. would be 5.
When we checked-​in my husband (he’s a social butterfly) hit it off with one of the receptionists which scored us extra cookies. Great way to turn my tired traveling frown upside down! We later nicknamed her «Cookie».
When we got up to our asssigned room we couldn’t open the door. Seems as if it was locked? We went back down and quickly got reassigned.
The week we visited there were multiple conventions and parades going on so they were super busy and I think the staff handled it as best they could. You could tell they were a bit overwhelmed because my calls to the front desk would go unanswered and when we did request for towels, etc. it took awhile to get them but no biggie. Seems they were short staffed.
We booked our reservations through expedia and was already paid for. We checked out and had no charges to our room. When we returned home there was a charge on our credit card for our whole stay at Doubletree! Man, how do you mess that up? Unfortunately, that is a big mistake that didn’t sit too well with me. If I am to be a returning customer I need to be able to trust the staff to take care of things like this no matter how busy they get. We have been calling between Expedia and the hotel and both firms have been transferring us all over the place. We finally got it resolved today.
Keep in mind, even though we had difficulties all staff members we talked to were very courteous. And even though they remained courteous while frazzled, it seems they were short staffed. The staff we encountered did the best they could with what they were given and we really appreciate that. Having a leadership development background, it may be likely their staff is struggling in areas due to management issues but who knows!

The rooms were large and nice, and I was able to get mine very cold which I like. The breakfast for elite members was awful. No eggs no hot foods. Not even a pitcher of cold water for people who don’t drink juice or coffee. I’ll find myself a better breakfast next time I won’t be staying here.
On my second day, I waited for 30 rings before the lobby answered. When I told them I was checking out they said ok briskly and hung up. Very short and rude. I went down for my lame breakfast at 6:22 and both the full and VIP breakfasts were CLOSED (they open at 6a). I mentioned this at the lobby. They said, oh we can open it for you. I said its 22 min late. Don’t open it for me. Open it for all your guests. I am leaving now.

My laptop was stolen from the room and the staff did NOTHING to help. They aren’t even apologetic.
If you stay here do it only out of necessity and keep EVERYTHING in your safe!

I like this Hotel a lot. The rooms are huge and suite-​like. There’s a kitchenette in every room, coffee pot, and huge couch. The bedroom has a comfortable king size bed and a great view of Columbus.
The lobby is several floors up and that’s a bit of a pain in the neck but that’s because there’s a big Parking garage under the hotel.
There’s free complementary drinks and snacks in the lobby and the workers are very friendly. If you’re planning on attending events at the veterans memorial this is the closest hotel you can stay at

My cumulative experience here, over the course of three different stays, probably warrants four stars, but three is fair. On my last stay, I arrived to an empty registration desk at around 6 p.m. It honestly felt like I was on that «Hotel Impossible» show as a secret shopper who found poor service. The front desk woman arrived after a good 5 – 10 minutes, wearing a jacket and saying she’ll get right with us. She seemed annoyed that she couldn’t relax after what I assume was a smoke break. She checked us in quickly but stiffed us on the cookies, which was par for her surly course.
The rooms are incredibly large, but it took my husband literally kicking in the door to see that. The electronic key was working, but the latch was sticking. That fits with the décor, which is dated. Yeesh… this is sounding like a one-​star review, which it shouldn’t, because the rooms are giant, clean and updated in the important ways. That is to say, modern TVs and comfy clean beds. Older bathrooms but with good showers. Lastly, and importantly, it’s cheap and a great location if you’re doing any business in downtown Columbus. I just wish they’d make some updates to the rooms and maybe some updates to the staff.
