Renaissance Columbus Downtown Hotel

I like the Ren so far
Here are the pros/​cons:
Pro:
Modernized room
Bathroom has modern sliding doors
Comfortable beds (better than Sheraton)
Typical Marriott options of service requests and wake up calls via phone
Lobby refreshment, i.e., iced tea
Starbucks across the street
Spacious lobby
Swimming pool and sitting area

Still not well-​lit; typical hotel lighting
Restaurant is not so great; took longer than expected wait time
TV does not have easily-​found (if at all) TV guide
Pool is small
Gym is smaller than Sheraton’s
No snackshop
No complimentary wifi

I’m so completely unimpressed by the professionalism of this hotel. A day before I arrived to photograph a couple and their bridal party of 8, I called to see if we could use the pool deck area for their first look. They advised me to tell the front desk when we arrived. We did so and a man told us a guard would go up and unlock it for us. We got to the floor, went to go out to the deck and the door was locked. We went to the front desk AGAIN, (now behind timeline to get their pictures done) to get it unlocked. We were told again that the guard would be up ASAP to unlock it. We had now waited 20 minutes with no guard. Finally he arrived and wanted to interrogate the groom (and guest of the hotel who had bought numerous rooms for his guests) about why we hadn’t had a permit from a manager and we shouldn’t be allowed to be on the pool deck. I advised him that I called ahead and no one mentioned this. He was trying to threaten us by locking it back up and standing in the doorway, lecturing us. It was so beyond ridiculous and abuse of his power.
Take your money else where. Just a FYI, I ended up taking the couple and their party to the Hilton and they welcomed us, allowed us to take images in the skywalk, lounge and lobby without question AND WE WERE NOT EVEN STAYING THERE! I’ll be telling my clients about this experience and we, whether for business or pleasure, will never stay here ever.

Disappointed. Have been just as comfortable at lower end Marriott chains such as the Fairfield Inn. Bathroom is the worst design. Awkward with little to no privacy, bad lighting and awkward placement of fixtures. Commode is the lowest I have ever seen! We kept asking for more towels but they never appeared. We literally had two towels for two people. I have never experienced that in a full service hotel. I could have complained while I was there, but I was trying to enjoy my weekend. Also, I think the overnight parking is pricy for a hotel in Columbus. Overall a terrible value for what we paid.

What a lovely hotel. The rooms are clean, the beds are comfortable, the bathrooms are spacious, the lobby is super nice, and the location is very convenient (close to just about everything). Would definitely stay here again.

The Renaissance in downtown Columbus was the perfect choice for our business trip. The staff was friendly and accommodating, and even had some recommendations on great dining and night life, which just happened to be within walking distance. The room was spacious, elegant, and filled with amenities like USB plugs and a quick and easy coffee maker. Everything was impeccably clean, too! I would definitely recommend this spot, and can’t wait to return.

To start the hotel was actually very nice, clean rooms, large space, beautiful bathroom.
However the entire stay was ruined by great little hidden fees the hotel was SO quick to not tell us about. I got told that they needed my card for «incidentals» just in case. To make it clear incidentals (at least at normal hotels) means you didn’t steal or break anything, etc. But this was never mentioned that it included things such as room service and valet parking. VALET PARKING. You pay separately for valet. If you’re driving you are probably 98% chance you got the valet before you even checked into your room. The «incidental» charge is $ 35 and valet is $ 26. This means that just for valet alone before you’ve even stepped foot into this hotel you’re out $ 61. Amazingly nobody mentions that to you. Im very sad that I’ll have to find a new hotel for my trips to Columbus, beautiful hotel but absolute worst hidden sneaky fees that make the stay absolutely not worth it. Be wary.

Worst hotel ever.
They closed their kitchen on a Saturday night because they felt overwhelmed. We waited more than an hour for pizza and a hamburger and what we received was cold. Tried room service but there was no room service as they closed their kitchen.
Room was not cleaned. Clothing of mine was thrown on the floor.
A horrible stay and the bed was uncomfortable as well.
We will never stay here again.

This was a nice hotel with SOME luxury hotel options. Beds were great but still has quite a bit of old style, low budget hotel. You have to pay for internet at $ 269! HowI have to say that the staff was super nice and exceptional

I stay at this hotel 3 times a year for business trips and the outcome is always the same. While at first it feels comfortable, décor modern there are few things that make this place very uncomfortable after a few nights stays.
1) it sounds like water is running all night. Not sure if it’s because of the elevators or what but the noise is constant.
2)the showers have a half door that make it impossible for you to turn on the water without getting your entire arm wet.
3)housekeeping never does a good job of cleaning in the morning (fresh towels, replacing things ect) my bed was barely made this trip. I also did not have a single trash can in my room until I requested.
I’m still giving the Renaissance 3 stars because of the staff– restaurant-​bar– and front desk. Just wish they could get it right the first time!

Very nice hotel but the internet isn’t free, we paid 300 $ for a room and don’t get free internet. The parking is valet so if you don’t wanna pay for that you will have to find somewhere on the street to park. The rooms are really nice though, beds are super comfortable.

One of the staff at the small restaurant they have there was snide and rude and implied racist tones and prejudice values. I don’t know how business is done in Phoenix and I’m sure that doesn’t reflect the whole of Phoenix however this man was clearly in charge of things and if a hotel, any in fact employs such a character you can be sure that I, nor any one will want to spend money there. I am sick of this attitude people thrown out at others. What kind of person works in an area that serves others and as someone who fights for the equality of others, I am disappointed in this company that is part of an esteemed company. Is this the sort of values placed in this hotel?

As a loyalist to Marriott, I take issue with this hotel being branded as a Renaissance. It is still has way to many signs of the old branding of the days when Ramada owned the brand, from the sign on the hotel, to some of the questionable design of the bathroom, and décor.
This is not how I think of the «luxurious hotel with upscale amenities».
First off, the room was dirty. Yes, I know that housekeeping doesn’t have that much time to turn over a room, but massive encrusted stands on the bathroom door, sink, table side bed, and other common areas is wrong.
It looks like they tried to remodel the rooms at some point, but they really just added the standard quick designs enchantments, i. e lamps, bedspreads, headboards, etc. The beds, queens, are shorter than what I would expect and the bed is more typical to a cheaper brand because it was a pretty standard mattress that was on the harder side.
The bathroom was a throw back with half a glass for the shower and no actual door. The room I stayed in ended up having a door that would fold in half and was cramped.
The price charged for this property is not worth the quality of the hotel.

Sometimes I would get a room with two queen sized beds instead of the 1 King requested, so that was kind of disappointing but not a deal breaker. Would definitely stay again

I haven’t written a 4 star review in awhile, and it’s definitely not going to be now. For 270 bucks this place is a joke. Cons: valet parking only 25 bucks each night. the room was dirty. It had a cup of beer still in the mini fridge. The walls are paper thin, and we weren’t even by the elevator but this is not a place you want to stay if noise bothers you. The grout in the shower was stained like it hasn’t been cleaned. There was crud built up around the perimeter of the bathroom floor was built up with crud. The toilets are attached to the wall and are comically low, like I felt that I was back in India. The décor was kind of Art Deco mixed with early 1990’s. Pros: comfortable mattress and our room had a view overlooking nationwide stadium. Pleasant staff overall. 9 dollar über ride to short north. And bar open until midnight serving snacks.

— the only drawback is the tv channel selection. It’s not as good as the Hilton’s in the area.

Comfy bed, decent bathroom and satisfactory service. If that’s all you are after for a hotel, then this place has you covered.
Please note that they will rape you on WiFi costs. So ridiculous that it’s something close to 15 dollars for 1 day of terribly slow internet. It was a joke. Also the forced valet parking was annoying as well.
You don’t get much for your money for the New Years Eve bash here either, though I think the party organisers are to blame for this and not the Renaissance itself.

Staff great and lobby very nice (and atmosphere much nicer here than at the Hyatt).
Rooms are just OK. Water pressure not great, and room cold and hard to heat (in fact, the entire floor was very cold).
Pool outdoors and so only available in the summer.
Didn’t love this hotel but I’d pick here instead of the Convention Center Hyatt (about a 10 minute walk from here to the convention center).
Very good restaurants nearby (G. Micheal’s Bistro, Wolf’s Ridge Brewing) and so if you don’t need to leave the downtown area no need to rent a car (walk or take a taxi).

My husband and I are moving to Columbus, Ohio and stayed at the Renaissance for a night while we met with a realtor. I’ve stayed at probably over 100 hotels in the last 3 – 4 years… and I can truly say that the service at this Renaissance is on par with high end 5 star hotels.
Pros:
* The Gold member lounge is one of the best. Not only did it have an incredible view and pretty good food, Kevin, the manager, MADE our experience! When he found out we were moving to the area, he gave us his personal cell phone and encouraged us to call if we had questions. He was awesome!
* Rooftop pool. Enough said!
* Room was spacious and offered every amenity you would expect from a Marriott
* Front desk service was exceptional as well. They made check-​in and check-​out a breeze
* The lobby area has some beautiful intimate seating.
Cons:
* I hate paying for parking. It annoys me that hotels tack on extra room charges (internet, parking, etc) after you reserved your rate.
* The hotel is located in downtown Columbus. It’s pretty central and easy to get to– although there isn’t a lot within walking distance.
Bottom line: This hotel is PERFECT for a weekend getaway OR a business trip. You will not be disappointed.

My stay at the Renaissance was good, uneventful, and smooth. I checked in Wed, July 23 – 25. There were 2 large conventions going on, which I partook in one. The other conventions participants were rude (not all of them, but maybe half of them), which didn’t help my stay there. Besides that, the employees were always very helpful, friendly and smiling. I requested a room on the floor of the pool (4^th floor) because I was hoping to use it, but the water was too cold for my liking. They did have a hot tub.

I stayed at the Renaissance Columbus Downtown Hotel for a couple of days when I was in town for business as it was close to the client that I had to meet and we had a corporate rate for the rooms.
As its name suggests the Renaissance Columbus Downtown Hotel is located bang in the middle of downtown and has a plethora of dining options within a two block radius. It’s about 10 miles form the airport and a taxi can get you here for about $ 25. I had a rental car so had to fork out another $ 25/​day for valet as that’s the only parking option available here. If you are only going to be in the downtown area I would recommend that you simply take a cab to the hotel and walk rather than taking a rental vehicle.
I had booked a room with a king bed but as they were out I was given a room with two queen beds for the first night. The room was good but you can see that it is dated. In-​fact the entire hotel looks dated and can surely do with a complete make over specially considering that the average nightly rate is $ 250 + $ 25 for valet + $ 15 for internet + $ 20 for breakfast + tax. For this amount I would expect a much better property. Fortunately I had a corporate rate so paid significantly less than they rack rates at-​least for the first night. Unfortunately my return flight was cancelled and I had to return here for another night when they extracted their pound of flesh as discounted rates were not available during weekends.
They provide Aveda products in the bathroom which I’m not a very big fan of. I was hoping they would have Thann like other Marriott’s but that was not to be. Another annoying thing was that the water pressure in the shower was weak. Apart from this all other amenities were standard stuff that you would find in any other hotel so nothing special to report here (steam iron + board, coffee maker, cooler, alarm clock, safe). Check-​in was as smooth as it gets and there is a taxi stand just outside the hotel’s lobby so getting around is also a breeze.
The Renaissance Columbus downtown hotel served me well given for my requirements and I would use them again if I get rooms at the discounted rates.
