The Westin Columbus

Cordial front desk. The room is tiny but that is typical when you use Priceline bid. A wonderful view of a wall but again my Priceline bid was $ 75. Not going to complain. Very comfortable bed, clean but small shower. This review is about 5 months old.

Beautiful historic building, the lobby is truly beautiful.
The rooms suck.
Tiny — and I mean can-​barely-​skootch-​around-​the-​bed itty bitty — musty, bright at night (the blinds cover only the middle of the window), thin walls, old loud plumbing that runs constantly.
The bathroom is the highlight of the room, it’s been updated (other than bad internal plumbing) and the shower is heavenly.
The front desk staff are trained to check you in and nothing else. They really can’t help you in any other way. They took two days to find a fax that other hotels usually have waiting for me. They were slow to get me help when the events staff failed me. They couldn’t find boxes that I knew very well were there. Then they brought me an outgoing box, clearly marked. Ugh!
The events staff truly stink. That is, if there is an events staff, I’m not really sure, since I had to keep tracking people down for silly things like water service, a projector screen, and electricity. It took two hours for them to finally remove the dozen or so extra chairs lining the walls. No one checked on us, ever. I had to go back to the front desk several times to ask for more water.
I also would not recommend the conference room because of the giant pole right in the middle of it.
Parking is valet only and $ 25+ per day. There is a lot down the road, use it. Valet guys aren’t that friendly and aren’t quick to figure things out like needing a luggage cart or letting you know, as you wait forever, that they have come back with your car and parked it (running) around the corner where you can’t see it.
Fridge in room, no microwave. No free breakfast, overpriced café. Food OK, not exceptional or anything worth the price. All in all, a really expensive Meh.
By the way, when the ballet is going, you can’t get anywhere near the place.

Beautiful hotel. Quick valet. (Although we would prefer to have our own parking; but it’s not a big deal.)
The rooms were quaint but sparse. No mini fridge? That’s being a little too selective on amenities.
Being that the rooms are tiny, the voices from the hallway are basically right in your ear.
The bathroom was fantastic though! Everyone was polite.
We booked on Hotwire and were assigned this hotel and we ended up happy with it, but we probably wouldn’t purposely choose it again.

Definitely a historic building in its day which was renovated to some degree. Actually I would say the building itself has remained the same except the furniture which itself was very cute and trendy like the Westin or W brand. Booked this deal on hotwire, so the price was not too outrageous. We paid $ 24 for overnight valet (with in and out privileges). Service was definitely on par with what I would expect form a 4 star hotel. So friendly, helpful, take their time with you to tell you what’s happening in the city, how to get there etc. We had change our first room because the air conditioner was too loud. The bed and pillows were ultra plush, slept like a baby. Hotel is also walkable to bus stations, restaurants, bars and a cool outdoor concert area.
Had some extra time and went for a quick work out in the 24 hour gym area. There were maybe 10 treadmills and six ellipticals, vast array of weight and some exercise machines. They also give you complimentary headphones so you can sing eye of the tiger on your 99^th mile on the treadmill.
Sad there was no pool/​jaccuzi. But, free starbucks coffee in the morning made me quickly forget that.

So it sounds like the Westin Columbus is a historic building! Overall the staff is friendly, neighborhood is cute — just walking distance from the river and feels like a college town, very quiet. I stayed in the Deluxe Room, it’s adequate… but fairly tight. You can’t even fit a suitcase through when the bathroom door is open! But it was good enough for me, just one person staying for business. They charged for wifi, per device which was annoying and it wasn’t a very strong connection. Lastly, room service was good — had a yummy breakfast sandwich, burger and chicken wrap while I was there. And it comes quickly!

The valet staff was very kind and helpful, especially when I just needed to grab things out of the car.
The Barista was my favorite. I spent a lot of money there. The hotel has a licensed starbucks stand.
The hotel breakfast is pretty decent. $ 15 for the buffet. Go hungry!
The shower stopped pumping hot water. It was fixed in 5min.

I have stayed at lots of Starwood properties over the years and while this historic building maybe one of the prettiest properties that I have visited it is definitely not the best. On the night of our arrival the air conditioning was not working and our tiny room was extremely warm. Maintenance attempted to open our window, but the latch was broken and it was unable to stay up. They did provide us with a small fan, but it didn’t do much. The room was small and claustrophobic especially for the high price and the bathroom was one of the smallest hotel bathrooms I’ve ever seen. The staff was helpful and courteous, the location was okay, but I probably wouldn’t choose this hotel again if I had other options in the area.

Hotel History: The place was built in 1896 very historic — so the style of that time period is women wearing Hula hoop dresses that were really wide.
With that in mind the hallways for your arrival to your room are very wide. Yet we as humans were slightly smaller so the rooms were smaller.
The Westin apparently bought it and tried to take it over and make it their own. NICE TRY Westin this is the worst attempt I have seen by this company in any city

This hotels lobby is cool and the staff very friendly.
The furniture in the room is ok at best, the rooms are very small, the carpet needs upgrading in and out of the rooms and hallways, the bathrooms are fairly cool.

Beautiful lobby and friendly staff, and that’s where the charm of this hotel ends. Yes, the rooms are small, but I accept that given the historic nature of the building.
I’m more concerned with the paper thin walls and uncomfortable beds which was surprising given the «Heavenly Bed» thing. Maybe I just got unlucky with an Earthly Bed. I can clearly hear my neighbor’s TV along with the fact that someone just took a shower. Last night it was conversation (not loud mind you, just two people talking.)
This is probably the worst Westin I’ve ever stayed in outside of a bad one off the strip in Vegas. If you need the Starwood points, do your thang, but otherwise, you might think about going elsewhere.
BTW, if you do stay here and are driving, there is ample parking within a block of the hotel that is less than half the price of the valet.

My sister-​in-​law and I stayed at The Westin this past weekend to celebrate our birthdays. First we went to a Spa Day at Square One then we checked into our «suite.» Overall the room was nice, included a treadmill and some workout equipment, but for $ 208 we expected to have at least a room with a view. The beds slept well and the rooms were updated. We enjoyed room service at a reasonable cost in the morning and comfortable robes to lay around the room in. We valet parked overnight ($ 25) and took an Über to the Short North. Über was super cheap at $ 5 there and $ 5 back.
Great room and hotel overall, probably wouldn’t have spent the extra money for the «suite,» but I would stay here again!

Love the location. Easy drive to anywhere downtown Columbus.
The hotel has a lovely flair to it. Great dining and a few nice small stores located inside.

We had a wonderful experience at the Westin. The staff is very friendly, and gives the impression they are happy to be helping you. (Jacob greeted us at the front desk and was so nice and helpful!)
We had the chance to grab a snack and cocktail in the restaurant, which was also great. The bartender was able to suggest dishes that were vegan, which is always very appreciated.
Ordered room service in the morning; pleasantly delivered, warm and as-​ordered.
Oh-​and free upgrade on our room at check-​in! Yes, rooms are small, but it’s a beautiful historic building. Just no complaints about The Westin. :)

Lock your items up! My husband, mother and I upgraded to a 2 bedroom suite for the weekend. We stayed here for a concert at LC Pavilion Friday February 6^th and Saturday night Feb 7^th. After the show, we returned to a hotel room that had been robbed. My Cash, and jewelry were taken, my mothers cash was taken, and my husbands favorite watch was stolen. I will never stay at this hotel again. I would look very closely at your valet or housekeeping. Those individuals that knew what we had in our room, and when we would be gone!
The front desk was very helpful and refunded our stay, but that doesn’t put my hard earned money back in my purse, or my husbands special watch back on his wrist. I feel disgusted and violated. I will never stay at this Westin or any others again!

I was assigned a preferred room with two beds. It was spacious for two people.
Room was well equipped.
Clean, comfortable beds, fridge, gigantic shower head, bath robe, even mouth wash… lol.
Starbucks Coffee and a plate of fruits??? Whoa i feel so special… first time i get a plate of fresh fruits in my hotel room, includes raspberries and black berries. .so fancy…:)
My friend parked at a close by parking lot to save money on parking (kinda inconvenient but save enough money to buy 2 margaritas… lol.;))
Would’ve been perfect if free parking and wifi were included…

My stay at this hotel was great. The check in staff was genuinely warm and friendly providing great information to add to my stay and make me feel welcome on my first trip to Columbus.
The lobby is amazing. I was told there was free breakfast, but due to other plans, I didn’t get to check it out, but would definitely look forward to that on another stay.
I was surprisingly upgraded to a suite, which had a full living room area with a separate door to the bedroom area which I liked as it helped block more of the hallway noise. Aesthetically, I felt the rooms could use some touches to make it softer and cozier. The rooms had very high ceilings with plain square décor that made it feel a bit cold with the hard square room. For me, the space was way more room than I needed for my stay, and I didn’t spend any time in the living room area. I did enjoy the free bottled water!
That said, the bed was amazingly comfortable and the shower had a Westin Heavenly Shower faucet that has two shower heads which was AMAZING. I could have stayed in the shower forever. So outside of the appearance of the room, it was actually a very comfortable stay.
The room was also immaculately clean and in great shape. I was greeted at the door by staff politely as I was in and out of the hotel, and when it was time to head back to the airport, there was a cab ready to go.
I would very much stay here again!

I had a great experience staying at this hotel last month. The staff at the reception desk were very friendly, and check in was easy.
My room was average size and had a comfy king bed. The bathroom was nice and seemed like it had been renovated. I was having problems with the hair dryer in my room, so I called the concierge, and they brought me a new one within 10 minutes. Now that’s good service!
They have a small gym with a few treadmills, ellipticals, and weights. Towels and water bottles are provided in the gym which is so nice.
Parking is valet. It was easy for check in, but when I was checking out, there was an event at the hotel, so I had to wait ~10 min for my car which was a little annoying.
The hotel is in a great location, and if you want to explore downtown, you can hop on the CBUS, which is a free shuttle that runs on High St. I would definitely stay here again if I’m in the area.

COLUMBUS, OH: This is a lovely historic hotel that boasts nice architecture in the lobby and exterior. The hallways to the rooms are wide and spacious and it has been renovated.
The rooms are a bit small, unfortunately, with very plain furnishings and small bathrooms, unfortunately. Also, there is absolutely no self-​park option, valet only, which can be slow during a busy time.

Excellent hotel, location and staff. They are a bit less Westin or W staff then I am used too. Very Donald Trump. My Golden Retriever –Jake strutted through the lobby like a star politician. Glam.
And they upgraded us to a monster large presidential suits. Woohoo.

When it comes to urban travel, it is relatively easy to find old-​fashioned grandness, historic properties, and beaux-​arts enclaves that capture and charm their guests’ imaginations. In such a category, however, it’s hard to find hotels that manage to embrace their historic nature while also maintaining satisfaction of each of the necessary tropes of luxury travel (compare a Ritz Carlton in downtown San Francisco to one on Half Moon Bay and the difference is blatantly clear) Columbus’ Westin tries to strike a balance, and it does so with varying level of success depending on the amenity. Having stayed in numerous older hotels, there is necessarily a curve on which they should be graded. And even then, so far as Downtown Columbus hotels go, this one is the best. It’s not perfect, but it has its qualities.
Unable to procure a bed and breakfast with availability outside of town it was necessary to «bite the bullet» and stay in the urban area. The Former Great Southern Hotel channels the essence of historic Columbus — a neighborhood of refined mansions and neo-​gothic mid-​nineteenth century architecture. With the passing decades many of the small estates have been supplanted by modern office buildings, but the handsome red-​brick 1890s building remains. It’s a handsome structure, and its neo-​baroque lobby (in spite of a few head-​scratching juxtapositions from various renovations over the years) is very Ritz Carlton in style. It’s white marble with gilded railings and soaring skylight lends an aire of sophistication. Check-​in was pleasant and friendly, and by virtue of being an SPG member was instantly upgraded from a Deluxe Queen room to an Executive King Suite… worth double what they were charging… with free internet. And 4:00 PM check out. Perfect.
The rooms, however, are cookie-​cutter Westin — though that isn’t a bad thing. Comfortable, muted colors with traditional furnishings, they are pleasant places to stay. However, they are a tad disappointing after taking in the impressive lobby. My particular room looked into the interior courtyard (not terribly scenic) and possessed a slightly awkward layout — a very skinny sitting room with desk, television, and sofa, and a larger bedroom with king, second television, HUGE closet, and a very tiny (though well-​equipped) bathroom containing granite countertops and a very nice shower. I understand that each of the rooms possesses a unique layout with rather wide variation. In my case, the slightly awkward layout was not a problem (having the whole thing to myself, it was a TON of space), and everything about it was extremely comfortable. The «heavenly» bed lives up to its name, and the bathrobes unbelievably comfortable. The complimentary toiletry items possess wonderful scents and textures, and the in-​room wet bar actually possessed a decent champagne.
The stay itself was very quiet the first night. The second night a slight murmur was apparent, but the thicker walls (older hotels have their benefits) rendered the nigh peaceful nonetheless. The next morning, however, the hallways on my floor were a bit of a mess… apparently there was a wedding and the guests were a tad soused.
As far as other amenities, being an urban hotel in a historic building there is no pool (though the fitness center is very nice), and a focus on convention space (which are all VERY opulent for a four-​star resort.) The attached historic Southern Theater space, with its line-​up of classical concerts, settles in perfectly
The hotel restaurants will possess reviews of their own, but on the whole this Westin was a pleasant surprise. The service was top-​of-​the-​line five star caliber, the architecture of the public spaces opulent and extravagant, the rooms comfortable, well-​equipped and welcoming (if a bit beige and lacking in character), and the value for the expense more than commensurate (they under-​promise, but over deliver). They earn each and every one of their four stars. Should I find myself back in Columbus, I wouldn’t be upset if I ended up staying here again.

Just came back from a B-​E-​A-​UTIFUL wedding, in which the reception was hosted at The Westin! The location and environment of this hotel was so elegant and classy. Everything has a grandeur look about it, especially the architecture of the historical building. The second floor layout is a little wonky though — someone can easily just walk through your event in order to get to their rooms. The food served was well prepared, and tasty enough considering they were serving 150+ plates!
Overall, very impressed!
