Curvaceous Couture Bridal

I found THE dress at Curvaceous Couture. I had a 10am appointment on a Saturday and we got started right on time. Mychaya was my consultant, and she was amazing. She talked with me about what I was looking for and I showed her some photos. Then she had me and my bridesmaids pick out a few dresses to try on that were in my budget. They have the dresses organized in rooms based on budget, which was REALLY helpful.
The first dress I tried on I fell in love with. I thought I had found the one the day before at another salon, but this one just blew me away. And it was nothing like I thought it would look like. We tried on several more dresses, but I kept going back to that first one. Mychaya was very patient and cheerful and asked me about my fiancé and our wedding planning. One of the best parts is that they have dresses in your size in the store, so you can try things on and they will actually zip up, and there were women in there of all sizes trying on dresses.
You could tell that Mychaya enjoyed her job and was excited when I finally decided — at least 10 dresses later — that the first dress was THE dress. She «jacked me up» and I had my embarrassing bridal moment. The other consultants were also so sweet congratulating me and telling me how beautiful I looked. Exactly what you want to hear when trying on wedding dresses.
Mychaya took my measurements, we picked a size and I handed over my credit card. The dress should be here within five months. I’m so excited!
Wonderful experience, big bright show room, lots of dresses to choose from in my budget (under $ 2000). It was exactly what «Say Yes to the Dress» told you was supposed to be your experience. I’ll have to check out their TLC show now! I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a dress.

My wedding is fall 2016 but my friends told me I needed to start looking now! After watching them on TLC I decided to make an appt. I went in only to try on dresses and see what I liked/didn’t like but little did I know I was leaving with my dress. Being a short plus sized bride I was nervous/​sacred rather than happy/​excited. I literally did not want to go and try on dresses. It was so bad I cried as the appt got closer and closer. I don’t want to reveal too much about my dress incases my fiancé stumbles on this review.
I walked in with a strange request, a black dress and my heart was set on a black dress. My consultant Autumn was amazing! I told her how I felt prior to the appt and she was so supportive. It was so nice to have a consultant who went above and beyond her «job.» She listened to what I liked and what I didn’t like… she pulled beautiful dresses for me to try on. I loved some, didn’t like others but her sense of humor really made the appt relaxed and enjoyable. I recognized her from an event I went to (she was working there) and she remembered me! She was also kind and helped me make a decision there. It’s awesome to know that her kindness and support is beyond the salons doors.
As for the dress; I walked in with my necklace and said I want the dress to go with my necklace. If I loved a dress and it didn’t compliment the necklace I knew I would get it. Walking around the salon before my appt I felt a sense of relief because I could literally try on any dress! The first dress she pulled I knew it was the one but I tried on others just in case. I told her what I wanted and she pulled dresses that fit the bill and others that she wanted me to try. I knew I would HATE a fit and flare but she told me to try anyway… I was right I hated it. I am happy she told me to try it on so I knew what I like and what I didn’t like. She taught me a lot about my body and what would look fabulous and what would hug me in the wrong places. We tried on a lot of dresses but in the end I went with the first dress she pulled. One thing I loved, I didn’t feel rushed throughout the appt.
Price: I am all about the deal! I walked in with a 3,000 budget (including the altercations.) The dress I wanted was $ 2600 before tax and altercations. It was a little high because I knew it needed some work since I’m only 5 feet. She said she might have a sample dress in the back. She went to look and came out with the same dress but with some altercations, it was changed to a corset back (which I loved), it was changed from the top ending at the waist to one that ended at my hips and most important it was fit for a short bride like me! IT WAS PERFECT! She told me it was a «sample» dress because the bride that ordered it didn’t want it anymore because of a super minor stitch error which was not noticeable to the naked eye. She had to point it out and I still didn’t see it! I said it was fine. She told me that this sample was $ 799. I just saved over 2 grand (this is why I was able to get a second dress.) I’m pretty sure I screamed «YESSSSS, I’LL TAKE IT!» I went back out to my family to say yes to this dress. Since it was a sample and it fits me perfectly there are NO altercations needed which is AMAZING! I LOVE IT! I am so excited to wear it!
The only thing I didn’t like about this bridal salon is; they don’t allow kids under a certain age. My daughter being there was extremely important to me and she couldn’t per their policy. Once I got there I could see why. Personally, my little girl would have behaved and it would have been no problem but I respect their rules. They have them for a reason. I ended up getting a second dress from David’s Bridal and she came so it all worked out: D

She said yes to the dress! It was one of the most precious experiences we’ve had. The place is intimate, private, and the ambience is spectacular! The staff were absolutely professional, warm, and friendly. They have a huge selection of styles and sizes with VERY competitive prices, the dressing areas were spacious, and the «gold room» (for the reveal) is elegant. It was the most memorable time that we will cherish for years to come. I highly recommend them.

The store has a great collection of dresses we were able to find my mom a dress for the wedding. We bought it from the rack because the sales lady told it this way we would have plenty of time for alterations. They weren’t able to fit me mom in until a month later. She brought undergarments that ended up not looking good with the dress. They refuse to pin any of the dress without and were so extremely rude saying next time she can come but we can’t get her in until late October, mind you the wedding is in November. They also said if she does that we are going to charge you a fitting charge. They were so rude the owner was the worst. Also not only that but they sold the dress to my mom for $ 500 and alterations are $ 400… Really. We should I have just ordered one that was to her size. I mean all the care about is money. We took the dress and even if we had to pay more for alterations at least it would be with someone that is making this experience a fun one bit a terrible one

I found THE dress at Curvaceous Couture, and I am so happy with it. With less than two months to go until my wedding, I had purchased a dress that didn’t work out and I couldn’t return it. CC was the last place I went to look for a replacement dress. I was welcomed on a busy Saturday morning, and the staff took time to listen to my ideas and my price range, reassuring me that there were plenty of possibilities. I had a chance to pick some sample dresses off the rack, and my consultant Mychaya went back to the warehouse to grab a few more potentials.
Mychaya and the rest of the staff were positive and attentive, and I tried on several dresses. I couldn’t have imagined the dress that I ended up choosing, but Mychaya could, and I’m so grateful that she took the chance to bring it out from the back. After a little consulting, we determined that it didn’t need too much alteration and what it did need was possible. The longer I spent in the dress, the more sure I was that it had been waiting there for me. I could not have dreamed that I’d find a dress like this. I almost cried as they were getting it ready. They were also willing to work with me to squeeze in an appointment with their in-​house tailor. I opted to find someone a little closer to me in DC.
FWIW, they’re not filming right now if that’s not what you want to walk into (or if it is, maybe wait until next season if you can…). It sounds like they’ve made adjustments since some of the previous reviews, but just ask when you call for your appointment and make sure you communicate what you’re comfortable with so that there are no surprises. I believe that the staff and owners really do want you to have a great experience there.
I will absolutely attach a picture from the wedding to this review in a couple of months. It means so much to me to have a bridal experience that I didn’t think possible. I love watching Curvy Brides now and feeling connected to Curvaceous Couture and they work they’re doing. Thank you!

It’s amazing to find a great dress; however it’s magical what this family brings to the bridal world! I haven’t had the honor to meet them yet… but, from what I experienced watching them through the TLC program «Curvy Brides» it was pure electric! I found myself cheering & tearing for the brides & loving the exchange be Yuneisia & Yukia!
Their mother & auntie are a sincere testament to what these two sisters should look forward to becoming as «Golden Girls»!
One of my Bestfriend’s live in the DC area & I am looking forward and excited to go visit the Curvaceous Couture Bridal shop… I can since these consultants are the genuine article & God bless them on their journey!

Amazing amazing amazing!!! I can not say enough about this salon and the staff. I happened to find this place online when my friend mentioned that she was nervous about finding a gown in her size. Curvaceous provided my friend the dress experience that she deserved! She glowed from the moment she walked into the door until she walked out after finding the gown of her dreams! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!! Your staff was wonderful! We all cried when she put on that amazing gown. Your salon allowed my friend to actually look at herself and see nothing but BEAUTY!!! Seeing walls full of gowns and not hearing «well, we don’t carry your size» was a huge weight off her shoulders!
There was a HUGE selection of gorgeous gowns in all shapes and styles! Every bride in the store had on amazing dresses. She walked in thinking mermaid and walked out with a sleek «Harlem Nights» vintage gown. You guys are doing a amazing job and your staff is trained well!
I wish I could send you guys a hug! You made my friend so very happy! Now she is going to walk down that aisle and see her hubby swell with tears of joy. She is so beautiful on the inside and now she knows she is even more beautiful on the outside.

If you go to this shop you are walking into a reality show — literally, no joke. My visit was totally not about me and I didn’t buy my dress there due to my negative experience. But, the collection is good and it was so helpful to try on multiple styles of dresses in my size (regular dress size 18).
The positive: The dresses were beautiful. The manager, Shannon was helpful and knowledgeable. It was awesome to try on so many things in my size. Truly.
The negative: Unfortunately, the experience was SUPER WEIRD. They are filming a reality TV show about the shop which they did NOT mention when I booked an appointment. REALITY TV?! When I walked up to the shop there was a poster on the door that said that by entering I was agreeing to be filmed. I had no idea, but I had taken off work (weekend appointments were not available) and rented a car (I live car-​free in DC) to go to this place, so I was on a mission. I work full time and go to school part time, so my time to spend shopping is precious and limited. I just felt steam rolled by the end.
The owners were present, but didn’t greet me until I had been in the shop for almost an hour because they were busy running after the camera team. The camera team was soooo aggressive with me and I was not assertive enough. They kept wanting to film me and taking up a ton of my time. Not to mention my bra was totally showing all over the place while they’re filming, which was embarrassing.
I finally asked the owner and camera crew what I was going to get out my participation– if they would give me a discount on my dress and they laughed. My friend was much more assertive than I and I am forever grateful to her. She saved the day with sass. Manager, crew and owners all apologized, but frankly it was just so weird and disrespectful. I was so upset when I got home.
I had to be nice to all in case I was forced to purchase there because there are so few places where I can actually find a dress that fits. Fortunately, there is another much more professional plus size wedding dress shop in DC. See my review.
I came out with good information about what styles look good on me. They have amazing dresses, but they are still growing in professionalism.

This was everything I wanted and MORE!
In September I was sitting and watching Say Yes To The Dress and after it was over a new show called Curvy Brides came on. The dresses they were showing were beautiful and the sisters who owned it seemed fun and down to earth. Having been engaged for almost a year at that point and knowing that I would be trying on dresses in early 2015 I was all about these shows. When I heard them say that this dress shop sells only plus size gowns and happened to be only 40 minutes from me I knew I had to go. I called the next day to get an appointment for January 3^rd.
When that Saturday morning rolled around I went in with my family and was blown away by the shop. It is so beautiful and instantly I saw several gowns that I wanted to get a closer look at. My consultant was Sophia and she was extraordinary. She started by sitting down with me and talking about what I comfortable with price wise and what features I liked in a dress. I showed her my pictures that were of things I liked and she seemed to get a clear understanding quickly of the things I wanted.
She went off and pulled 4 dresses and then called me in. Sophia was so sweet and helpful and genuinely seemed interested in my wedding and plans with my fiancé. She never made me feel plus sized or different in any way. In fact she told me not to worry about size because it is all about fit and for the first time in my life I tried on dresses without ever knowing the size. She had everything organized well. One dress would be ready to step into while we were taking the other off so there was never any time where I was standing around waiting. Each dress my family and I loved more than the last. She pulled dresses that had all of the things I was looking for and I noticed even picked up on things I said to my family that I liked or didn’t like and pulled dresses accordingly.
I tired on 8 dresses and loved each of them but ultimately found one that stood out more than the others and gave me that bridal glow, the dress of my dreams. When I said «yes» to the dress everyone including the people who were having an appointment next to mine clapped and cheered. I felt like me and the other woman trying on gowns were the only people in the world and we had fun seeing the different dresses the other would put on.
I am so happy to have found my gown and to have had the perfect experience that I have always dreamed of.
Another huge selling point and kudos for Sophia is that she completely and totally respected by budget. She showed me 8 gowns all which were under my budget. The most expensive gown I tried on was still 5 dollars under my max and yet I didn’t feel like I was missing out on any or like she was holding back. Just the experience I wanted!

They have far fewer than the «hundreds or thousands» of dresses they claim in the promos for their new TLC show. They do not carry anything by some of the designers that they list on their website (Rosa Clara), and have only a handful of styles in the ones they do carry (Terani Couture, in particular). Nearly every style looked similar — either lace or ruched. There were no simple/​plain dresses, there were no illusion sleeves, there was nothing even remotely architecturally interesting. Apparently most larger girls have the same taste, so that’s all they carry… Perhaps that’s why we all have the same taste — because YOU’RE not giving us any options. The sales consultant was pleasant enough, but the whole experience was very disheartening. I came in with a list of 40 dresses from designers they claim to carry, and they did not have a single one for me to try on. Really upset that I traveled 4 hours for this false advertising.

All of the sales associates are lovely. After an exhaustive wedding dress search where most of my dress shopping experiences ended in tears (the bad kind), I finally decided to give this place a try. All dresses are 1200 and up. The salon was exactly what I wanted out of the experience and the sales women were not pushy. They allow you to take pictures and the fitting rooms are roomy and spacious. I would come here again in a heartbeat and would recommend that every plus size bride give this place a try.

I cannot say enough good things about this place, specifically Shannon. When I walked in the store, I was taken aback by how beautiful and well organized it was. Then, Shannon found me a gorgeous Allure dress and made it work with my small budget. She even found the perfect accessories to pull it all together.
I have struggled all my life with eating disorders and body image issues. Shannon was patient andsensitive to that and worked hard to hide the size and help me feel confident. Because of her, I actively enjoyed an event that has been making me nervous forever. I cried happy tears when she put a veil on me. All brides, regardless of location, NEED to go here first.

I visited Curvaceous Couture after receiving an email from The Knot and I couldn’t be happier that I got that email. This bridal shop is a relief to plus sized brides that worry about fitting into the «standard» sample sizes at other bridal shops. Sophia was the lady that assisted me that day and she was wonderful. She stayed within the budget and offered helpful tips on how the gowns are customized. She was detailed and didn’t rush the appointment. I haven’t made my final decision and will likely return to try on a few more gowns before making my purchase.

Curvaceous Couture is amazing! As a size 20, I was not expecting to enjoy my dress buying experience, putting it off as late as I could. I wanted a happy experience getting my dress and had heard so many horror stories about David’s Bridal. I didn’t want that added stress around my wedding.
I met with Sophia for my wedding dress and she had me try on numerous ones that I liked. She really listened to my style and we clicked right away. I had broken my foot two months before, still in a walking cast, and Sophie got me and my cast in and out of these gorgeous gowns. I ended up with the first one I tried on there. I really got my «say ‘yes’ to the dress» moment. I still loved my dress as much as the day I picked it. I am trying to find ways I can still wear it.
I also chose my bridesmaid dresses at CC, as I was there and half of my bridesmaids were size 10+. A month later the designer had discontinued the dress! Yukia to the rescue! She calmed me down expertly and took care of everything. I got my dresses and they turned out wonderfully.
My mother also bought her dress at CC. Her dress was stunning and she was thrilled with it.
Amy with alterations is fantastic! There were a few ways the dress was laying that bothered me and she fixed it, no problem. She also made a beautiful jacket for me that completed the look. All my bridesmaids also had chiffon jackets made for a Jewish ceremony, and they were wonderful. I plan to use her for my future alterations.
At CC you become part of a family. No question is stupid, no concern is minimal. They provide the best service you can hope for.
A special shout out to Yenisia. She was with me every step of the way, from buying with Sophia, the bridesmaid fittings, the alterations, and then the final pick up.
It really an amazing place! If you can afford to spend a little more than DB or AA, or are a 10 or higher and want to have an memorable experience, go there, you won’t regret it!

I visited this bridal shop today and had a wonderful experience. It’s one of the most beautiful bridal shops I’ve seen in person. Clean, friendly and a great selection of designer gowns. Never mind that’s its specifically catered to plus size dresses, I’m a size 12 and I was able to try gowns on and they had no problem clamping them and making them look good. I found my dress here and would suggest any bride that isn’t a size 6 to start here! Their prices ranges from $ 2000 and up. Forget David’s bridals for your wedding gown, mothers dress or bridesmaids. This place is amazing!

I meant to write this review shortly after my wedding (Sept 1 2012), but life happened and got very overwhelmed! But nonetheless after 6 months I am very thankful for my experience and coudln’t have asked for anything better.
I worked with one of the owners, Yukia, who made it a point to make me feel special. I was already overwhelmed with the idea of getting married and the dress shopping portion was the one task I didn’t want to tackle. In fact, I came in right in the nick of time order with time for alterations. I went in with some ideas of what I thought wanted, but really didn’t know what would look right for my body type and within my budget. We tried dress after dress and I hadn’t found the one, but Yukia pulled one more dress and there it was… Enzoani Fabi — my dress. I felt gorgeous, she dolled me up and made it a point to focus my party on me. I felt exactly how I wanted to feel — gorgeous.
Curvaceous Couture definitely impacted my big day and couln’t have asked for anything more. I definitely recommend making an appointment and giving the boutique a try — it was more than worth it.

I am a little delayed in writing this but I had a fantastic experience at Curvaceous Couture! I was looking for a dress in $ 1000 – 2000 range and they had many many options and had many on the higher end probably over $ 8,000! I felt very catered to and special while there, it was my first dress shopping trip and Yulesia (one of the owners) told me to try various styles. I originally had no intention of buying my dress there but I tried on an amazing Manuel Mota by Pronovias gown and they sold me the sample! My mother and future mother in law have bought their dresses there too. So far it has been a great experience and I’m staring my fittings soon! I’m a size 14 – 16 and had plenty of dresses I could try on I recommend it to all brides!

I can’t speak for the experience IN the store, because I was not ALLOWED to make an appointment. I am going to be a bridesmaid in a wedding this fall and wanted to try on a dress that we found online. The store representative that I spoke with confirmed that they do have the exact style and size I would need to try on, but when I tried to make an appointment she refused me because the bride did not buy here dress there. The bride bought her dress at Kleinfeld’s and they do not sell bridesmaids dresses. These people are loosing any business I could have given them or referred to them over a ridiculous policy.

This is a hard update to write. I went from loving this salon and everything it stood for, to being disappointed beyond belief. I had such a positive experience at Curvaceous Couture on my first trip there (when I found my wedding gown). However, after they had my money, I felt like they no longer cared about anything I wanted/​had to say/​asked for. I was so saddened by the drastic drop off in customer service that once my dress came in, I had it shipped to my house and found someone else to do the alterations.
The salon has a great concept (ie — every woman should be able to try on bridal gowns), but the execution is lacking.
Someone had recommended that I try on gowns at CC, but buy my dress at another salon. Now I know why.

This is an awesome bridal salon! It carries all plus sized wedding gowns in various price ranges. After being humiliated by other bridal shops because I was «too big» to try anything on, I went there to shop for my wedding dress. (I wear an 18W).
They have a Reem Acra salon within their salon that houses all Reem Acra plus sized gowns! I tried on other gowns too. They had a huge selection, and many different styles. I tried on gowns by Jasmine, Enzonai, and Pronovias. One gown I tried on was by Ian Stewart that had lavendar roses and silver lace that was gorgeous! I ended up with a Reem Acra gown that was beaded and absolutely stunning.
The salon is huge and gorgeous and the dressing rooms were large and very elegant. The service was excellent and the ladies there were very friendly. They had bridesmaids and mother’s dresses too! I highly recommend this place.
