Lacquered Up

My Pitzer daughter recommended this salon for a pedicure and I agree with many of the other reviewers that the salon was quiet, peaceful and there was certainly a lack of upselling of any kind. In fact, I would have liked to have known there were different add-​ons to the basic pedicure — I would have certainly tried them, had I known. As it was, I had a very short, basic pedicure for $ 20, but the technician (Tara?) was skilled and did a superb job filing down my thick toenails with an electric sander. (I did not have polish so I cannot attest to that). They were on time and ready when I arrived.
My only two negatives are the chairs — while big and soft, I didn’t find them comfortable when your feet are up on the technician’s pedi-​stool. I miss the massage chairs other salons have where your feet are more down on the stool so you don’t push the technician away from you when you put your weight on the stool. The second negative is that the chair was dirty when I arrived, with black something or other on a towel next to me. It seemed like it had not been cleaned from the last guest. That said, Hoang was helpful and kind, not pushy, and it is a calm and comfortable place for manicures and pedicures. I ended up getting a gift certificate for my daughter, as it’s her favorite place for nails.

This nail place is pricey but they do an excellent job. No acrylics – just regular polish and gel. They actually work by appointment unlike many nail salons where even if you have an appointment you have to wait because they took walk-​ins. The salon is very peaceful and immaculately clean. Easy parking, and right by Starbucks. If you come on Sunday afternoon there is live music outside that you can listen to while getting your manicure. My gel manicure lasts for 4 weeks without chipping.

Loved my experience here. I made an appointment for a Wednesday at 11, and there was only one other customer. It was nice & quiet, and best of all clean. I got a gel manicure for my wedding and I love the result. Will definitely be back.

I love coming here! I’ve been coming here for a few years now to get a mani/​pedi and my nails come out perfect every single time, seriously. I live in LA and I wait to come to Claremont just so I can get my nails done here. The location is quiet and relaxing, not rowdy like some other places, which I appreciate. I highly recommend this place, it’s clean, comfortable, reasonably priced and everyone who works here is wonderful. Shout out to the owner, Wang, for squeezing me into most of my last-​minute appointments!

First, they are all very sweet here and you don’t get the feeling they are annoyed that you are here like other salons. Love the big comfy chairs because I hate the spa chairs with the uncomfortable massaging things. They have a huge selection of colors but I can’t really comment on any fancy nail designs because that’s not really my taste and I haven’t seen any. Lastly, I love that this place gives you a 4 week guarantee on your gel. Any chipping, breaking, peeling within 4 weeks they will fix. Not that you will ever need it because their gel really holds up since they are using the high quality gelish brand.
I definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a great gel pedi where you know the equipment is clean! I do recommend making an appointment because they get busy. They have been accommodating to me on a couple occasions when I didn’t have one but holding up appointments in important to them. If you have an appointment they won’t make you wait like some salons!

Loved the service and the people! For once I didn’t feel like the people doing my nails were talking bad about me. Here it was an amazing atmosphere! I had a great conversation with not only everyone that worked there, but also the other ladies getting their nails done. I also was honored to meet Buffy the dog – He was very sweet and cute! He liked me too! ;-) As far as the quality of their work, it’s very good. I went there about a week ago and my gel nail polish is still holding strong and I’ve received many compliments on them even though I didn’t get any type of design done. I will be coming here from now on!

Honestly the best place around!
I’ve been coming here sporadically for 2+ years and every visit is the same. Phenomenal!
–Wang and his team are incredibly nice and professional. No gossip, no attitude, no up-​selling. They will talk to you if you want and they will quietly do their thing if you just want to zone out.
–They have a large choice of colors that seem to change according to season. Also, they aren’t rude if you bring your own color.
–It’s clean and quiet.
–Their chairs are comfy and I personally prefer that they bring out little personal soaking tubs for your feet with plastic liners. Way more hygienic!
You should definitely give Lacquered Up a visit. Just call ahead and make an appointment because they get busy. Still worth it!

Wow. Where do I begin. FANCY! But without the fancy prices! It’s a little more than your average local nail salon but this is definitely not your average local nail salon. It is totally worth a few extra bucks! First off, for your pedicure they do not have your average nail salon large massage chairs with the large bin in front of you to dip your feet in. And they do this for sanitary reasons and cleanliness. If you think about it you do not know how well they scrubbed down those foot tubs after somebody has just used it before it is your turn. Blech! At Lacquered Up they use disposable liners in their buckets for you to soak your feet in. Hopefully they really are tossing these liners! LOL maybe one day after hours we’ll have to go check their trash bins! hehehe
I love that throughout your pedicure, the nail technician continuously asks you how you’re doing and if you like something or not. «Is this okay?» So sweet and nice! It’s also nice that they do not speak in a foreign language throughout your services making you constantly wondering if they are talking about you! ha ha. you know what I’m talking about.
Next up, gel manicure. Hands down the BEST! They are so meticulous and careful at the art of your manicure it turns out so perfect! I am anal/​OCD so for me to say something is perfect means a lot! ^_​^ It’s been almost 3 weeks and everything is still perfect but I’m still going to go back because I want to change the color.
I don’t live near Lacquered Up and there are more than enough nail salons around where I live but Lacquered Up is definitely worth the drive! Hoang (pronounced Wang) is awesome! Highly recommended! :). Enjoy! And you’re welcome in advance! :P hehe

so, it was my first time getting a pedicure and my wife (who found this place) had been telling me how much I would like it, and how awesome Lacquered Up is. SHE WAS RIGHT… This is more of a spa than factory farm mani/​pedi nail salon… get comfortable chairs (as some people note, not like in regular nail places… which for me is great as I love these big over sized more like furniture chairs. Music is perfect, not elevator music, but still mellow, and the service was attentive, friendly, and wonderful. Since my first time (which is the review up to now), I have returned to get another pedicure and added the manicure… no difference in how much I enjoyed this, and how great this place is. I am now spoiled and will continue to get routine Manicures and Pedicures as I am totally spoiled with the service… You got to go here!

The many five star reviews speak the truth. This is an excellent nail salon for a number of reasons:
1. Laquered Up is immaculate. All tools are sterilized, every customer gets a new file, buffer, toe separators. Fresh clean towels are plentiful and your manicurist is not reusing a dirty paper towel on which to do your nails.
2. Lacquered Up does not smell like nail product or wax because, no, Hoang does not provide acrylic service (and it is a cheap shot to give this place a 2 star review for not doing acrylics — call a new place first!) and you won’t be able to get wax or a cheap facial here. The lack of upsell is one of the many reasons I love this place.
3. The environment is calm and peaceful. Hoang frequently needs to wake me up after my service because I will normally fall asleep. This is one of the few times during the week when I truly stop and relax. It is most definitely a quiet and professional climate but customers are warmly greeted and treated with care. The furniture is comfortable and clean, no huge pedi chairs making noise here. Like reviewer Joanna V, the rolling chair during the pedi sometimes worries me — I don’t want to send my tech sailing across the room. But again, that is not a deal breaker. The pedi is flawless.
4. Appointments: Book ahead. Do not expect to walk in and get your mani/​pedi. Hoang’s loyal following know to book ahead. In the year that I’ve been going to Laquered Up, Hoang has only run behind once and could not have been more apologetic.
5. The gel manicure: Exceptional! I stopped going to a place I’d been going to for nearly 10 years because I prefer the drop and foil method of removing gels rather than picking and scraping. Hoang and his techs do it the correct way. There is a wide variety of quality product to choose from for gels and pedis. Bottom line, my gel nails look amazing and last, as do my toes.
6. Hoang runs his business well. He is a professional and treats his employees kindly and respectfully and his customers like treasures.
Gels cost $ 34. It is well worth it. You are paying for much more than the gel service. You are paying for cleanliness, professionalism, quiet and nail service.

I am very happy with this salon. It is very different from your run of the mill nail salon. I was used to going to those places that will take walk-​ins, even if that means making you wait for an hour by the door. The ones that have the huge massage chairs, a million no name nail polishes, and an ambience that is not relaxing in the least.
First off, the owner is very nice. I make appointments and when I get there, I am greeted by name and they get started right away. There is no waiting in line. While I was there the first time, I noticed a lot of clients calling in for appointments and discovered that that is the way to go. He turns down clients if the workers are busy or if that time slot is booked and I appreciate that because the workers don’t rush, there is no line out the door, and it prevents overcrowding.
This salon has no massage chairs and I love that. They opted for comfy lounge chairs with lots of pillows and they bring a freshly lined foot tub for you when you get there. One complaint I have is that the nail tech sits on a rolling chair in front of you and if you are getting a pedicure, you feel like you might push her away from you. That part leaves me tense instead of relaxed but it is not a deal breaker. Otherwise, my pedicures are always flawless and I am always more than pleased with their work.

First time here, all I have to say is AMAZING. I have been to many nail shops where I feel like I wasn’t fully satisfied and overcharged but this place made me feel like a queen. I simply came in for a manicure to test out the shop and I received the best service from the front desk man and the woman who did my nails. First time here, and I’m SOOO glad I took a chance on this place! I made an appointment and they took me in on time. The staff, Wang, Kimmy & Theresa were so friendly and easy to talk to. Theresa did an amaaaazing job on my nails and she did exactly what I wanted! I’ve never had black nail polish before and Theresa and Kimmy made my nails look flawless! I’m so happy with the results! AND! They guarantee no chipping for 2 weeks– if it happens they fix it for free! Who does that?! Totally happy and will definitely be comin back before my bachelorette in March! Already made my appointment! Wooo!

I made the appointment the night before my friend’s wedding dress rehearsal dinner. My plan was to go in during the morning and have my nails ready to go for the next two days of events.
The plan worked thanks to the diligence of Lacquered Up. They took me in in a timely fashion and took just the right amount of time to do a thoroughly detailed job on my french manicure. I was really nervous as to how long the nails would last considering I opted out of the nail-​ruining gel manicure, but I was pleasantly surprised to see my nails lasting through the next few days flawlessly.
Since this is the best rated nail salon in Claremont, coincidentally, a few other girls in the bridal party also came here to get their nails done too! The owner actually remembered the name of the bride when I mentioned that I was going to a wedding. Overall, not a bad experience for me!
Tip: If you live around there, they also have stamp cards to encourage you to come back. They also have an email system for discounts and offers.

I have resisted writing a review for Lacquered Up because I view it as *my* personal salon — if I rave about the place, will others come there and make it harder for me to get my regular pedicure?
That’s a risk I’ll have to take. I wish I could give this place more than five stars. It is rare to find a personal care salon that provides it all: incredible service, first-​rate quality, great hygiene controls. Lacquered Up is a model for customer service. It is small and has limited seating and few technicians, but that’s because Wang, the owner and manager, has such high standards and not many measure up. You’ll find none of the usual nail salon issues here — only an unhurried, personalized, relaxing experience in expert hands. My daughter and I are regulars at Lacquered Up and we are always greeted like family, but every client is treated with the highest level of respect and care.
