Two for two: West Loop Auto Body exceeds expectations again. Excellent customer service (big nod to Janet who is wonderful). My car looks great, and they handled all the paperwork with State Farm to make it easy. Thanks guys–

My girlfriend took our car in on the recommendation of a friend to have some servicing done here. They are located a block away so we were very hopeful that we found a permanent mechanic. We asked for the basics: oil change, tire rotation, check the tires, and change the cabin air filter because we were experiencing an odd smell any time we used the AC.
After taking the car in, they noticed that the brakes needed to be replaced so we moved forward with the work. It was reasonably priced and done that day.
When picking up the car they noted some issues that would need to be done in the future as part of the inspection of the vehicle as well as some pricing on repairing a couple locks. My girlfriend then confirmed that they had changed the cabin air filter and they said, «No it wasn’t needed». That got me a bit annoyed, knowing the filter hasn’t been changed in over 2 years. So I decided to take it upon myself to Google where the filter was located so I could replace it myself. The picture is how I found our cabin air filter… this to me looks like it needs to be replaced.
Three days later the check engine light turns on. We won’t be returning customers.

Walked in for estimate on scratched doors. The agent immediately intimated that it would be expensive. He then punched in the computer the make, model while showing all the work that had to be done. He quoted 1300.00 for both doors when I showed him a previous estimate that was $ 500.00 less his manager stepped in & said he could give me that price but it wouldn’t be warrantied. If that’s the case then why wouldn’t I just go to the other place that will warranty it? Duh?
Big show & dance. Way overpriced.
Update, received nice email from Ed stating he would work with me on warranty. I’m not sure if it would have worked, but I will give them the benefit of doubt. I have found another location and my car is being serviced elsewhere. Will upgrade from one star… would have been nice if offer was given right away?

I can’t comment on their workmanship as I did not have any services performed, this is purely a review on customer service.
Went in here to get a couple of estimates for some minor dings. The service writer informed me there paintless dent repair is outsourced and without them being there he couldn’t provide me with an estimate. Immediately thereafter he to ask me who my insurance provider was and informed me that I should claim these dings under comprehensive coverage. 30 minutes later, he gave me an estimate to have the entire door removed, repaired, and repainted for a whopping $ 950.00. For minor dings? No thanks.
The following day I had the dings repaired by a mobile PDR professional who was able to remove 100% of the damage in 15 minutes for $ 90.

Please read. This is my first review ever, and it’s for West Loop Auto.
Three weeks for a knee replacement. Don’t spend your money here. You’ll notice several comments similar to mine, so this happens WAY to much.
I understand that auto body shops can either be good, bad, or in-​between, but beware of the hot headed mechanics here. Here’s my situation, and their response.
I came in after an accident and the mechanics noted that I had knee damage (spring replacement) and also noticed a few other issues not related to the accident. I chose to move forward only with knee replacement. They ordered the part, wrong part, and reordered the correct part. My car is a sport edition, it’s written all over the vehicle. Anyway, the reorder cost me a few extra days, so now a week total at this point.
I received a phone call from the estimator saying they got the spring in and that they could have it done Wednesday during the day. I told them I wouldn’t be able to pick up the car until Thursday evening, so no rush. Appraiser said, «ok, I’ll see you Thursday evening». I ended up coming in Saturday morning and found out my car was not completed. Had a terrible conversation with 2 people working behind the desk. At this point its 2.5 weeks and basically the entire shop knows me and my car.
On Monday morning I received an email saying my car was ready, and it wasn’t. It was ready Tuesday afternoon. At this point I just wanted my car, and didn’t care to argue. I left the auto body shop and I noticed some trembling on my steering wheel, so I drove back to better understand the situation.
I spoke to the person who signed me out, and calmly asked about the situation. She went back to ask the mechanic and he’s basically getting very angry at her, and doesn’t even bother coming out of their back room, so she’s goes to the next mechanic, and again the same happened. A few minutes later, a mechanic comes out hot headed (looks like he’s ready to fight). Asked him the simple question, got my answer and left. This was not a comfortable situation.

After reading positive Unilocal reviews, I brought my car here after a minor run-​in with a parking garage pillar. The wait for work to be completed was about a week longer than they estimated. I was not contacted to be notified of the delay after the estimated time frame passed and and had to do a lot of phone tag to see what was going on. When I went to pick up my car the repairs were completed but my car had small damages that were not there prior to dropping it off. Ryan and staff were very polite, apologetic, and accomodating. They fixed the damages that they caused and covered the cost of the rental for the additional days of usage. Their actual work is satisfactory, prices are decent, and they’re easy to deal with when face-​to-​face, but the lack of care they show for other people’s property is why I can’t give a good recommendation.

Someone hit my car and their insurance recommended I took it here. They were quick and responsive when I made an appointment and they took care of all the insurance stuff for me. It was a quick drop off and pick up for my car, and I was impressed that they were able to make it look like new even when they didn’t replace anything. Enterprise was great too… quick and easy!

Fairly priced, professional, timely.

We have been going to West Loop for twenty years and have known Ryan both as manager and friend of my son, who recently spent 14,000 on repairs on his Infinity. I called Ryan about a leaky tire that he said he would have fixed while I wait if I came in at 11. In the meantime I had him give me an estimate for the repair of a scraped rear door on the Venza; I didn’t question the $ 2500 because I had confidence in their integrity. After an hour I was waiting for the tire repair and, told the mechanic went to lunch and to come back at two, left to run errands and came back at two. At three-​thirty and still waiting I walked out, searched for nearby repair places and found Wizard Werks at Lake and Racine. Tirre fixed in five minutes for $ 15 and an estimate in hand to repair the door for $ 1100 at half the billable labor hours … HELLOW WIZARD WERKS … Good Bye West Loop … like so many successful operations, Fox and Obel and you name it, they are outgrowing their britches and maybe even morals.

As an update to my previous review, a manager contacted me after my initial Unilocal review. He addressed the issues I had in a very professional manner. I really appreciated this and as a result have updated my review. The work done on the car we great in the end, so with improved customer service I’d give them ⁴⁄₅ stars.

Girl moment — tire pressure low on all four tires on the coldest freakin day in Chicago. Not that I couldn’t just take it to a gas station but I wanted to check n make sure the tires didn’t have any other major issues cuz the car is brand new. And did I mention it was cold outside!!! Front desk was very helpful and the mechanic explained the whole process of tire pressure in the winter and the psi levels. The best part is they didn’t even charge me! Now that’s some nice folks y’all! Thanks WLABS!

Brought our vehicle to this facility after an accident. After the «repair» of the vehicle, the vehicle still has the same issues it did as a result of the accident. Called several times to speak to a supervisor, and was told that the supervisor would return our call. That never happened.

Although their upfront service is professional and speedy, in the end we found out that West Loop Auto Body is dishonest and shady like so many other mechanics.
We brought our car in for a tune up and brake check, and they got us for $ 1k worth of minor repairs, including repair of a gas leak. We never had problems with the gas mileage so this was a surprise.
Not even two weeks later, the gas mileage was ¹⁄₁₀ of what it was before the repairs. I was going to bring the car in when the brakes suddenly failed.
I returned the car to them to check out these new problems, both of which should have been addressed during the aforementioned tune up.
They wanted $ 115 more for another diagnostic, which we refused because come on!
They finally called us with a quote for $ 1200 more work on the car. Thank goodness we had the car towed to another mechanic we trust but farther away, and was quoted $ 200 for the same work.
Total ripoff, dishonest practices.

What a disappointing experience. This place is very close to home and like many others below, it’s a State Farm recommended location, so I thought it was an easy choice. Unfortunately, this whole process was a larger headache than the accident itself. From the first day, every deadline was missed, and every phone call they promised never came.
First, they said it may take up to 48 hours for an initial estimate. That seemed reasonable to me, so I waited. After these hours passed, and I still hadn’t heard anything, I called to ask for an update. Two days in a row I called, and they were not able to give me an update and told me the person in charge of my file would give me a call. No one called. I finally got an email with the estimate 5 days later.
Second, after I received the estimate, I was given the date my vehicle would be ready (1.5 weeks from that day). They made a point of telling me they often get things done way earlier, but that they would «certainly» give me a call with any delays. I heard nothing for nearly a week, so I emailed my contact to ask for an update (as he instructed me to). I got an automatic reply saying he was on vacation for another week. Yet again, for three days I called once a day asking someone for an update on my car. Each person could not give me any update and promised to call me later that day with some sort of information. Again, no one called.
The day came when my car was supposed to be ready, and no one called to give me any sort of update, so I called yet again. This time they told me my car «probably» wouldn’t be ready that day, but they would call me back before noon with a full update. Again, no one call. I called again, and the last answer I got was «Oh yeah, it won’t be ready, someone MIGHT give you a call on Monday to let you know the status.» I talked to my contact on Monday and he said NO ONE made any decisions or progress on my car for the WEEK he was on vacation.
That following week they told me there was even more damage to the car that they didn’t know about until they test drove my car, and some damage they caused when they removed a part from my car.
I got my car back more than FIVE WEEKS after I turned it in. Everyone understands that sometimes these things take longer than anticipated, but I would have responded much differently had they communicated throughout the process. My car seems to be in good shape now, so that’s why I upped my review to 2 stars, instead of 1, but the headache and lack of professionalism throughout the process will keep me from returning.

These guys have come through for me multiple times through several cars, and just did so again. They are not the cheapest you can find, but they are very honest, they do a great job and they will do everything they can to work within your budget. I have been ripped off before, and I trust these guys completely.

Had my car repaired here following an accident. The damaged ended up being fairly severe. The cosmetic damage was fixed very well but a mistake was made on my transmission. However, when this issue was brought to their attention, it was resolved fairly quickly. Mistakes happen. I’m happy that they made it right.

I had a wonderful experience here! One day on the way home from work I noticed that my brakes were making very strange noises. Typically, for mechanical work, you need an appointment here, but I called and they let me drop it off without an appointment. I left my car there on a Thursday night & it was ready by the next night! I was very impressed by their customer service, pricing, and efficiency. I also received flowers on my way out, how chivalrous!
I will always bring my car here from now on!

I took my brand new (250 miles) car here after an unfortunate incident with a dumpster in my alley. If you are the gentleman from the recycling company who decided to put that dumpster there on that given day, I am not very happy with you.
Anyway, I live a block away from them and they’re a preferred State Farm vendor. Oh, and they have an Enterprise car rental inside their building. Seemed like a no-​brainer.
When I went to pick up my car after the first round of repairs (more on this later), there were multiple significant issues with the end result. One of the newly painted doors looked like it had been opened up into a wall (gouges on the door edge), there was paint overspray on the black plastic trim, a chip in the side skirt and a large scuff on the leather interior. Again, this is a brand new car we’re talking about.
Obviously this was concerning, but the sales folk were accommodating, offered to fix it for free, and put me in a rental while they were getting it right. They said it would be another 3 days – they basically had to re-​do everything.
Three days go by, and no call or any update from them. It wasn’t a big deal that it wasn’t done yet, but it would’ve been nice to receive a call. Instead, I had to track down my contacts to ask them.
Here’s the worst part: during the second round of repairs, I was walking my dog and noticed my car in their secondary lot. Oh, cool, let’s go check it out! Not cool. The car, with fresh paint, was sitting outside and missing the rear quarter window. And it had been raining all day. I don’t know how long the car was out there, but I let them know, they moved the car, apologized, and made sure it was relatively clean when I picked it up. Still, it made me wonder what other questionable decisions were made…
This is getting long, so I’ll wrap it up: they got all the repairs right in the end, but it took way longer than it should have and the customer service, while friendly and helpful, wasn’t very communicative throughout the process. Hopefully I won’t need a body shop any time soon, but I’d shop around more the next time around.

I recently had a door repaired from a minor collision. They were exceptional on service and did a wonderful job with my repair. I would hope they could speed up their repairs a bit in the future, but I would definitely return should the unfortunate need arise.
A service advisor named Ryan Tamblyn was especially impressive.
