Steve started his real estate career in 2002 after leaving a successful trading career in the steel industry. He has built his business largely on referrals from his past clients. Every year since he started selling, he has been among the top producing agents among his company and city wide.

Steve was raised in the suburb of Elmhurst, Illinois. He graduated from York Community High School and Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana with a degree in Japanese Studies. He studied in France and Japan and is fluent in both French and Japanese. He worked as a trader for Sumitomo Metal Trading and then Mitsubishi Corporation. He was responsible for importing flat rolled steel from Japanese steel mills for use by Japanese transplant automotive companies in the U.S. His clients included Toyota, Honda, Subaru-​Isuzu, and Mitsubishi. He eventually left the trading companies to work for two separate online steel trading sites.

In 2002, he got his real estate license and starting selling residential real estate. He has been with Keller Williams Realty for his whole career.

He continues to be recognized as one of the top and most well respected agents in his company. Every year since he has started, he has been recognized as a Top Producing agent by the Chicago Association of Realtors.

I had the pleasure of working with Steve Acoba in 2015 when selling my condo. I found Steve to be knowledgeable, trustworthy, honest, forthright, punctual, engaging, thorough, prompt and realistic. Steve is very good at setting expectations upfront in regards to what clients can expect from him, what he expects of clients in return and what clients can realistically expect to find in the real estate market given their needs, wants, budgets etc. My property was a vintage 2 BR, 1 Bath condo with an unattached garage in a 100+ year old building. Steve’s expertise was critical in identifying my target buyer profile so as to be efficient and effective in executing appropriate marketing campaigns as opposed to a marketing approach of trying to appeal to every buyer. His targeted approach was instrumental in selling my condo in a timely fashion. I would not hesitate to enlist Steve’s services again and recommend him wholeheartedly to anyone seeking a real estate agent.

We enlisted Steve’s help after our first realtor fizzled out on us. Steve was everything we wanted in a realtor – responsive, knowledgeable, personable. We were tricky clients, for sure: first timers, co-​buying a multi family with another couple, FHA financing, 203k loan, trying to compete in a crazy Logan Square market. He worked hard to find us the right property (no small feat), and worked with the other realtor to make meetings and viewings happen. He also made renovation recommendations on where we could get big bang for our buck… All in all, I couldn’t imagine hiring anyone else next time we need a realtor.

Steve Acoba is, fair man, kind, and logical, he works to make both parties in the negotiation feel well treated. My husband and I have bought and sold about eight houses in our life so far. The transaction is usually stressful and unpleasant. I could never have recommended any realtors that we have dealt with in the past either as buyers or sellers. He is the absolute best! I can’t say enough good about him.

Steve is amazing!!! My wife and I were looking for our first home in the Lakeview/​Lincoln Park area and Steve came highly recommended to us by my wife’s brother. Steve was extremely patient with us as we looked at various types of condo’s and town homes to determine exactly what we wanted. As we looked around the neighborhoods, we found Steve’s insight invaluable as he would point out things would have most certainly overlooked had we been with a lesser broker.
Steve’s guidance in regards to the offer process was great as well. After we found the unit of our dreams, Steve was honest with what he believed it would take to get the unit and helped us land exactly what we wanted. He helped manage our emotions and made buying a house for the first time as easy as possible. Steve also has great connections in the real estate world and has helped us all the necessary parties to make closing on the property easy as well!
One of the best things about Steve is his prompt replies to any emails or calls. Regardless of the time or day, he would get back to us lightning quick which is very important in the Real Estate market these days when properties move quickly. We were also amazed by his knowledge of all of the different streets/​areas no matter where he was showing a place.
Overall, we could not have been happier! Steve is the best in the business and we were so happy we got a chance to work with him.

We bought our place (a condo) through Steve in 2012. He’s calm, patient, and professional and very «no pressure.» We were first time buyers and with all the information to absorb, I credit Steve’s knowledge and demeanor with the fact that we had a good understanding of the process and did not get completely overwhelmed.
I want to second what the first reviewer has said about Steve’s promptness and commitment. Indeed, he was always good with returning messages and has helped us with recommending everything from a legal team to repair services after we moved in. The most recent being just a couple of weeks ago. So, yes, he is certainly dedicated!
I love that Steve was always willing to show a place even if it looked like it was more likely to be a no than a yes. I’m thinking in particular of a Victorian greystone that had a beautiful façade and some amazing original features still intact but pretty much needed a gut rehab. (Note to new buyers– if the listing only shows the exterior of a building, there’s a reason.) For our budget, all of the needed work made it it totally out of the question, but Steve still took the time to show us the building, let us ogle leaded glass windows and built in hutches and talk about what we liked and how someone might go about rehabbing the building (if one had the budget.)
Basically, Steve really made buying a home an enjoyable and educational experience.

Steve worked with me when I was looking to buy my first condo in the fall of 2011. While I did not know Steve prior to working with him, he came highly recommended from a number of my friends from a sports league, so I put him on my list of agents to talk to… and boy am I glad I did! While I think there are always going to be stressful moments when purchasing real estate, I can honestly say that I couldn’t have imagined that my first time through the process would have gone as smoothly as it did.
Once I found a place that I loved, Steve guided me through the bidding process (not the simplest thing, since the property had been foreclosed on and multiple purchasers were interested). His advice proved to be priceless, as I was able to beat out the other bidders while still getting the property for a ridiculously low price. I’ve been living in the condo for about 8 months now and absolutely love it.
Perhaps the best thing about working with Steve is the dedication he showed to his client: he always answered my phone calls and e-​mails promptly and comprehensively; he was always able to recommend extremely skilled individuals to help me with my needs (from legal to flooring to HVAC etc.); and, even months after the purchase, he’s been super-​willing to field my questions.
