Ryo Sushi

This is a great lunch option for the loop area! Reasonably priced and very fresh!

The location and lack of patrons may seem like a great spot for people in a rush to get some sushi, but be warned; for a group of 6 people, the wait time was around 50 minutes for the food. 5 rolls were ordered among the party, and gyoza, along with miso soup for everyone. The food tasted great, but the server was absent for most of the time, not even in view or able to ask us how our meal was going. Several groups of other patrons were able to come in, order, and receive their food, long before us. Two couples were able to get in and out before we even got all of our food. Even a simple order of tuna sashimi took about 10 extra minutes to be brought out to the table. In other words, if you’re trying to find a sushi place with a really cool interior design, and delicious food, and you have an hour or more to spare in the restaurant, then come to Ryo Sushi.

Very clean place. Sushi was very good. Week come back again. Great location downtown.

I ordered a Party C for my roommates. The chef puts a wasab-​made dragon head in the platter. What a Surprise!

A quick, late and light lunch, we were not at all disappointed.
A nice staff, they treated us to a great, fresh selection of rolls, as well as a nice miso soup. All very refreshing and it hit the spot. Had the under control, Philadelphia and spicy tuna rolls.
I’d certainly recommend this place for quick, fresh sushi.

Food tastes great, waiters are friendly, and food is served fast. This is probably one of the best sushi restaurants in the area.

I work just around the corner from Ryo Sushi and I’ve been wanting to eat there for a while. The interior looks really cool; the décor is much more modern and interesting than most sushi places in the Loop. However, it’s hidden by the construction right now so I always forget about it. The other day I made a point of going for lunch.
I wasn’t very hungry, but I wish I had been. If everything is as good as the Under Control roll then they definitely deserve five stars. I usually don’t give five if I’ve only tried one thing from a place, but I would here. The food absolutely gets five stars from me. The roll I had is a simple spicy tuna roll topped with a tempura shrimp and tobiko. It’s also drizzled with eel sauce. The eel sauce with spicy tuna was an interesting combination. I tend to like food really spicy and I might’ve preferred spicy mayo or sriracha on top but it was really good nonetheless.
So the food is great but the place isn’t perfect. I was alone so I sat at the counter facing out to the street and the stools are very uncomfortable. They look nice but they’re very narrow and don’t have a back. If anyone from the restaurant reads this I’d really encourage you to get different seats for the counter. Also, they charge two bucks for a can of Coke. I never drink soda but that day I wanted one. I don’t know if two bucks is common for a can of Coke downtown but it seemed ridiculous to me. I’ll definitely go back but I’ll sit at a table and stick with water!

This spot is so perfect for those working in the area. Their service is fast enough that I can have a sit down meal during my one hour lunch break.
I have been here twice now, during lunch hours. They offer very decent lunch specials. I ordered the spicy tuna and shrimp tempura combo. The rice to sushi ratio is great. The ingredients are fresh and the rice is soft.
Overall, the prices are very reasonable. There aren’t too many seats inside the place, but again, it’s conveniently located so you can easily grab and go.

A surprising little place to pop up downtown and making people smile. I came here with a friend who had a Groupon and we ordered a couple rolls each and some water. It was empty on a Monday night, and so the service was polite and attentive. We were seated right by the bathrooms, but the place is small and the bathrooms are camouflaged so it was ok.
I chose the rainbow and red dragon rolls because of the diverse amount of fish in each of them. I should have known the crab would be fried, because it always is in rolls, but that slipped my mind somehow and I wish they would have indicated so on the menu to remind me, because I was surprised when it came out. It was delicious, however, and I thoroughly enjoyed that and my healthier, refreshing, rainbow roll. For the prices and selection and freshness of the food, and proximity to my work and basically, everything else downtown, 4 stars is an easy choice.

This is the best place to get lunch in the loop.
Price was fair. The fish (I have tried but tuna and salmon) were fresh, which is priority to me. It didn’t taste like it has been sitting around for a while. Also, the cuts were precise and the meat was sharp.
The house salad and soup are the two sides that I always get, both very good and worth the charge.
They gave me a free side of rice upon request, also were fast to refill drinks. The service overall was great, didn’t wait long at all for order or food.
The environment, being fairly new, is elegant and clean.
The bathroom was very tidy, #1 sign of a restaurant that cares about hygiene.
Overall it is the best sushi restaurant in my opinion in Chicago.
Definitely worth a try, both lunch and dinner.

This is the second time I’ve been to the sushi place. I have no idea where this place is not crowded. Literally some of the best sushi I’ve ever had. Very cool atmosphere. Good value. Will try to make this place one of my regulars.

The service:
Maybe they were busier than they expected to be on a Saturday night in downtown Chicago… But it took 20 minutes after we sat down before someone took our order. Food took another 20 minutes to come out and they forgot an item. Never refilled our drinks or asked how we were doing. Had to flag them down for the bill.
The food:
Way over priced. The traditional sushi pieces only come with one piece. Maybe I’m spoiled by California food, but the sushi didn’t taste like anything. At all.

The sushi was pretty good. There weren’t any sushi items that made me really go «wow» per say and the service was a little slow.
The interior is pretty slick though.

Reasonable price with good quality of sushi and rolls. I ordered spicy tuna roll and Chirashi. They were tasty and with just the right amount of stuffing fish. Fishes were fresh. I think that’s the most important thing for a sushi place.
I think they just new opened. Everything looks clean and nice. Service was just ok tho. I will def come back for pick ups since I live so close by.

Sushi was fresh & well prepared. The service was inattentive and curt despite the crowd being pretty light. Our waiter wasn’t interested in refilling our water, being at work and definitely not a tip. I’d go back to give them another chance or for take out.

For carryout or casual dining sushi in the Loop this place is all right. What drew me in were the clean windows and crisp décor. At around 1pm on Sunday I was the only person in the place. When I walked in, I saw a cooler and assumed there would be prepared sushi for a grab ‘n’ go experience. Alas, there were only drinks, but I did end up ordering a salmon avocado roll off the menu. Service was polite and my roll came out lickety-​split. I liked that ample ginger and wasabi were provided and will definitely be back here, possibly eating in the next time.

It was nice to see a sushi place pop up in the loop that is a casual dine in or quick take out for lunch. For loop sushi, Ryo ranks about average. I wish their lunch menu was a bit more inventive and had more roll combination options at different price points.
I ordered the L3 which consisted of a spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and spicy Kani roll. 3 basic rolls for $ 15 and no soup or salad included. I know it’s the loop and that automatically allows every restaurant to jack up prices, but this is a bit excessive. I was disappointed to see that the spicy salmon was similar to spicy tuna — chopped up fish mixed with spicy sauce rather than fresh pieces of salmon with sauce on top. All 3 were way too drenched in spicy sauce, masking the taste of the fish. Overall freshness was average at best. The edamame was a nice surprise as the pods were fresh and steamed and salted perfectly. But it’s not good when edamame is the highlight. Service was friendly and prompt. I will check this place out again and try other items but more because sushi is so limited in the loop.

Some of the better sushi I’ve had. Red Dragon and Rainbow roll — just yummy! Seaweed salad was also delicious. Fresh and juicy. And all so affordable! No beer though.
Anyway, will definitely come back should I be in the area again.

Ryo Sushi is fantastic! Fresh, generous and artfully prepared. The rolls are big on fish, not on fillers. The beef & asparagus appetizer, tasty and tender.
Ambience is calm and welcoming. Beautiful, creative décor.
But shhhh, don’t tell anyone about this new gem; I want it all for myself :)
