Maternal Child Connections

I was having a lot of pain breastfeeding my newborn which was causing me to fear and avoid breastfeeding, and the feeding positions I was using also aggravated my back and wrists. Before deciding to quit breastfeeding after only a week and a half of trying it, I contacted Lisa at Maternal Child Connections on a Friday night and she promptly set up an appointment for a consultation at my home the next morning. She was very thorough and took my health history, inquired about my birth experience, asked about my breastfeeding concerns and goals, and evaluated my baby’s weight before and after I breastfed her, her suction, whether she had a tongue tie, physical indicators of dehydration, etc. She also observed me breastfeed the baby and then showed me a bunch of strategies to make it more comfortable and less painful, and gave me some sample packs of nipple cream for the soreness I was experiencing. After the 2 – 2.5 hour long appointment, we developed a plan together and she encouraged me to follow up with her via text after feedings for a few days to see if we needed to make adjustments to the plan. I think we texted for at least a week or a week and a half with my various breastfeeding concerns and she was very patient and answered all my questions! She also runs a monthly support group for breastfeeding moms which I found immensely helpful. It’s been over 2 weeks since our appointment and breastfeeding is way easier and less uncomfortable. I am so glad I decided to call a lactation consultant instead of giving up on breastfeeding. Lisa is super encouraging, knowledgeable, and friendly, which is exactly what I needed as a brand new mom. My wife and I are so happy that Lisa was our lactation consultant. She made the effort to find out what was important to my wife, and I was impressed that she paid attention to my concerns as a father. Although I couldn’t nurse our baby, she understood that I had an important support role to play in the process. Lisa was very thorough in preparing us, and made time to meet with us before the delivery, while we were in the hospital, and after we came home with our daughter. I was so happy to see how she put my wife at ease and answered our million questions. Lisa was (and still is) available to talk/​text with us anytime we had concerns or questions, and having that kind of accessibility gave us a peace of mind that was priceless. If you’re about to be a new parent, I highly recommend Lisa to you. It will be one of the best decisions you make!

Lisa is an amazing lactation consultant — so supportive, knowledgeable, responsive, kind and helpful! She has helped me several times for a wide range of issues, from painful latching to preparing for pumping at work. Lisa is incredibly responsive. The first time I spoke with her she listened to the problem I was having and was in my home helping to correct it the very next day. I feel very supported by Lisa — she has made this often challenging experience so much better for both my little one and for me! I highly recommend her!

I hired Lisa as my lactation consultant when I was having trouble with milk production. She was wonderful and exactly what I needed to help me with my concerns. Lisa came to my house the day after I called. She took a thorough history. She was very detailed oriented and made several quantitative assessments of my milk supply. It turned out I was making enough breast milk for my infant, but she gave me some great tips to keep my supply up and I continue to use her advice. After her visit, Lisa continued to follow up with me to ensure my supply was adequate. A couple times I had concerns she spoke with me over the phone and we were able to resolve my issues together effectively and efficiently. I would highly recommend Lisa to anyone needing help with breastfeeding issues.

Lisa was SO helpful with my milk production and latching issues! I contacted her one morning and she was at my home within a couple hours. She was really nice and answered every question I had. She gave me great tips for increasing milk supply and did some hands on work for helping with the latch. She even made time over the next several days to keep in touch and help me along the way. You can’t beat her level of knowledge, professionalism and experience. She’s a great choice, for sure!

I hired Lisa to be my postpartum doula and it was the BEST decision I have ever made. Lisa is a real life Mary Poppins and made the transition to Motherhood an amazing experience. My husband and I would have no idea what we were doing and now feel confident that we can take care of our little one successfully. My son had lost 10% of his birth weight after the first week as newborns usually do, and thanks to Lisa he gained 4 ounces in 2 days! I was nervous about breastfeeding, Lisa made the experience smooth and enjoyable for everyone. She clearly knows what she is doing, as the pediatrician mentioned what an incredible weight gain he accomplished in such a short time. He is now well on his way to being one healthy and hungry boy! I felt extremely comfortable with Lisa from the moment I met her. Lisa has skills that exceed well beyond being a fantastic lactation consultant and nurse, she also has the ability to make you feel completely at ease. I have learned so much from her on newborn care that would have been nearly impossible to know on my own. I highly recommend Lisa to all new Moms!

I can’t say enough great things about Lisa! After giving birth to my first child this past February, I was going through the very discouraging and worrisome experience of not producing enough breastmilk for my little one.
