I’ve used this location twice for contracting Uhaul services, mostly due to the proximity to my apartment. Both times I was disappointed with the quality of customer service and friendliness of staff.
The first time I rented a short truck and was able to get the truck on time and in a clean condition. The customer service was lacking, however. Because I would be returning the truck after hours, I was quickly told to throw my key in a dropbox and pointed to a gate where I could enter a code to get in and leave the truck in the evening. The staff member rushed through the whole process, even when I asked clarifying questions to make sure I would do the right thing in the evening and have no problems. He seemed annoyed that I didn’t immediately see the drop box and in a rush to get back to sitting at his desk. Later that evening, I had trouble with the code that I was given for the gate to the lot. There was no number to call after hours in case of difficulty and several other passersby tried to help me get in the gate with the code I had been given to no avail. I ended up having to take the uhaul back home with me and return it in the morning, missing work in order to do so. I could not have been met with a more rude response. The staff member tried to charge me for an additional day and for the level of the gas tank and extra miles I had used. He did eventually agree to not charge me for the gas, but I still paid the extra mileage I had had to drive in order to bring the uhaul back for a second time in the morning. No apology was given to me for the issuance of an incorrect code and the staff member made me feel «stupid» for not having been able to open the gate.
I was assigned this location for my most recent uhaul pickup. I had some reservations, but decided to give them another shot. Customer service was more or less the same — they are in a hurry to get you out the door, don’t explain insurance policies, and quickly rush you through checking the mileage, condition of the vehicle and checking the gas tank. When handing over a $ 50,000 vehicle to a stranger, I think they could be a lot more thorough and customer-​oriented. As contractors for Uhaul, they just don’t give a crap. There are better places to pick up your Uhaul. The staff at Uptown Uhaul is so much nicer!

I rely on Unilocal for finding the best businesses based on people’s reviews but I never felt the need to write my own — until today.
I made a reservation with U-​Haul on ⁷⁄₅ to reserve a truck from this location for my move on ⁷⁄₂₅. I received a confirmation the same day stating my reservation was made for the time-​slot I requested. I got a call today from Fred at High Point saying that my reservation would be for HALF the amount of time I was previously confirmed.
I need the extra time I was previously confirmed for because I have a bad back and need to be careful while moving.
When I called him to tell him that I had been previously confirmed for the amount of time I originally requested, he began cutting me off repeatedly on the phone, yelled at me, and even HUNG UP on me! It took another 3 times calling him to try to get him to answer my questions and he said he didn’t care about my previous confirmation and hung up again.
Fred was harassing me and said he would not honor my reservation but said he did not cancel it, so now I have to call U-​Haul to get everything figured out so I don’t get charged for services I won’t be using because Fred wouldn’t tell me if he canceled my truck or not.
Do NOT give this shop your business. Fred runs this place and is extremely rude. No customer deserves to get yelled at and berated for something like this.

I’ve taken my car to High Point for work a number of times. Their communication, work quality, and rates have been excellent.
When I needed to have my car serviced before emissions testing and re-​registration, they volunteered to — and did — take the car through emissions testing for me with no additional charge.
I originally brought my car to High Point because I lived nearby and they had a good reputation. After having moved out of the neighborhood, I still rely on them.

Horrible customer service. From start to finish the employees acted like it was a chore to do their job. I DO NOT recommend them.

Great and friendly service for my 97 Corolla. My car was done quickly and at a good price for the work that was done. Will be going back again!

I brought my Mercedes coupe in to Fred after hours on Monday and it was ready for me Thursday evening. I had a LOT of work done – my car was barely running. He was kind, thoughtful, and explained everything he did on my car to me. He showed me pictures of my completely warped tires (I brought it in to fix a flat & get a tune up) and happily answered any questions. The price was absolutely reasonable, and my car runs AMAZING! The difference between before and after is incredible.
Please bring your business to Fred, he’s a good man. I’m a 23 year old woman and he didn’t try to rip me off or treat me like a buffoon. Before this experience, I actively avoided anything car related because I’d get treated, talked to, and looked at, like an idiot in car shops. And rightfully so, honestly, I know nothing about cars. Fred didn’t take advantage. From what I can tell, he has good business from the Uhaul rentals already. Bring your cars to High Point!

This is THE place to get your car repaired on the Northside or Uptown neighborhood. Fred Hassen is knowledgeable, professional, and fair. He has MANY years of experience and knows cars inside and out. He is kind, courteous, and will not BS when he reviews your car and tells you what it needs. His prices are fair and he does quality service back by a guarantee. I first met him 8 years ago when my old 1994 Chevy Geo Metro needed service. He kept my car running until I decided to purchase a new one (Chevy Cruze… a SUPER CAR!!) when it was first introduced on the market. Even then when I told him what I was going to purchase, he told me to wait awhile (roughly 6 months) to see if there were any defects and to see what the reviews were on this new model. The reviews came in and they were all superb. I love this car, but Fred gave me good advice. This is the type of practical no nonsense advice one will receive when they visit his shop.
On a personal note, Fred has a been a good friend to me. I have been thru some major stresses and changes in my life the last 6 years, and within the last month, but Fred has been there to listen and offer advise. I will NEVER forget that. He has a FRIEND/​BROTHER for life in me.

Working with Fred at High Point Auto is always a pleasure. I haul items two times a year for an event I help produce, and his trucks are always clean and well maintained. Thanks to him and his crew for helping to make my job easier! I had to keep a rental truck for an additional day, and they were able to amend my reservation on the fly. Very happy with their customer service and definitely will return again next year if not sooner.

Great personable guys and will quote you a fair price. This place is on a street with many other mechanic shops and they hold their own.

Initially I had a great experience here with an oil change and a Uhaul rental. However, when I went back for my next oil change the owner tried to charge me $ 64 instead of the $ 25 fee written on all the flyers around the office. This made me uneasy. The next time I went to get my oil changed at the actual car dealership they told me the oil pan bolt was stripped and that it was going to cost $ 500+ to replace. I’ve been told that this stripping can only happen by incorrect removal and replacement of the oil pan. I will not be going back and would not recommend to others.

I rented a U-​Haul and everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. I will definitely use their services in the future!

My wife was driving 60mph when the hood of her car flew up, smashing her windshield and shaking her up quite a bit in the process. I had never worked with Fred at High Point before, but when I called to see if we could tow the car to High Point late at night, the first thing he asked was, «Is your wife ok?» That said a lot to me about the service they provide. High Point was fast, courteous, and above all human through a difficult repairs process. Thank you so much. We will most definitely be back.

FRED IS AWESOME! Their prices are reasonable and not typical for Chicago. Not only do I get my auto work done there, but I rent U-​Haul vans to move my art. It’s nice to just be able to call up and say, «Hey it’s Adam, can I reserve a van for 1 today?»

I was introduced to High Point by a trusted friend and now I refer all my friends to High Point. It is hard to find a mechanic whom you feel will give honest estimates, but I trust Fred to be fair and honest with me concerning any work which needs to be done on my car.
I live in the Southshore neighborhood of Chicago which is quite a bit of distance from High Point, and I will gladly pass by the hundreds of other repair shops to have Fred work on my car.

What a Mensch. I call 8:23 Monday morning, Fred answers the phone & tells me, yes, I can buy Just the bar for the wardrobe box I’ve got despite the fact that they normally do not sell them separate. And then he charges me 3 $ for it. Really super customer service.

I’ve used these guys for their U-​haul service 3 times in the last couple months and every time I’ve been able to reserve the truck I wanted for the amount of time I needed without having to pay an arm and a leg. Plus all the trucks I’ve rented have been in great condition and ran great.
The owner has been there every time and he’s always been polite and fun to deal with. I’ve recommended this place to several friends and will be returning as needed in the future.

Called these guys up at 6 PM. on Saturday, June 1^st – one of the busiest moving weekends of the year looking to rent a 10′ U-​Haul truck the next day. Surprisingly, Fred, the owner answered the phone! He answered all our questions and confirmed availability. We reserved our truck online.
Showing up the next day and the place was busy with many trucks coming in and going out. Sam, one of the other employees, got our truck ready and went over the entire exterior with small stickers to mark dents and dings they already knew about so we weren’t liable. After a few quick pointers, we were out the door in 15 minutes.
Returning after posted hours, Fred was still there and took the truck off our hands. I received the invoice later that night and it was within $ 5 of our estimate.
End-​to-​end service was excellent and U-​Haul makes renting a truck a breeze. The truck itself was fine and easy to drive. The two employees we worked with here, Fred and Sam were great and didn’t give us any grief for the last-​minute rental.
Only con, and not worth a downgrade to 4 stars is that the location is tiny and on a fairly busy street. I’m glad we didn’t have to get the truck into the lot after hours!
Overall: great service, no-​hassle, would rent from this location again.
