Luis is very smart– he solved a tricky
problem with my Mercedes for which
neither I nor the Mercedes manual had a working solution. By manipulating computer commands while driving at highway speeds he successfully burned off a blockage of carbon in a diesel exhaust particulate filter, saving me several thousand dollars replacement cost. He has many training certifications and even set up his own business server and security system. He is hands– on with his mechanics to resolve technical issues. Car mechanics is sometimes complex. Having in-​depth knowledge and a good network of expert contacts makes Andres owner, Luis, a go-​to problem-​solver. I should also mention that service fees were very fair for all the effort put into my vehicle and the outstanding result.

I couldn’t me more happy with an auto repair service. These guys are fantastic, they are extremely professional and very helpful. I had a lot of questions and Luis was more than happy to explain and help me understand everything.
They fixed our car quickly and everything worked better than before we bought it a couple of months ago.
I highly recommend them.

‘Dre hooked me up when Pep Boys stripped all my lug nuts. Great service for what I thought was a low price. He’ll work with you if you’re on a budget to find cheaper parts.

This place is amazing! They came to pick up my car in DEERFIELD and fixed a lot of big issues for a fraction of what Lexus would do it for. A few months later, I came back for a cracked side mirror. Lexus wanted to charge me $ 375 just for the part while Andre’s checked all of their vendors and got it for $ 40! Andre’s is very attentive and appreciates your business, which is a welcome change from the dealerships.

I really like Andres. I especially like the owner, Luis. He is the difference between coming here or going somewhere that MIGHT be cheaper. He doesn’t come at you like, «Hey, ah, you got some issues wit ya car! You’re gonna need dis and dis and dis and it’s gonna cost ya!» No sir, Luis is the most calm, understanding, rational, educated, and comforting mechanic I’ve ever known. He is like the, dare I say, Mister Rogers of mechanics. He works you through all the issues your car may have and explains the processes involved in repairing those issues. He makes eye contact with you so that you feel like you’re a friggin’ human being. I’ve had it with mechanics that talk to you while walking the other way or while shaking their head looking at a computer monitor.
I have taken my car to Andres about 5 or 6 times so far and I also know a lot of people who use his services, and I haven’t had or heard of any issues. As long as I’m in the neighborhood, I’ll continue seeing Luis at Andres for all of my automotive needs.

Luis at Andres’ Auto is great, as well as the staff. He had it towed to his shop from another shop that could not fix my car, which didnt start. Many mechanics don’t like working on small diesels like my 2001 VW Jetta. I had some very special problems due to a conversion of the car to run on vegetable oil and diesel or biodiesel. they took the time and found and repaired numerous problems, and gave a more than fair labor price. (Parts were a lot, but that’s not their fault) After having gone through 5 shops, only Luis and his staff came through for me to help with the special problems I had. Shops like this are a rare breed. Finally someone who takes the time to do it right at a great price. I hope they stick around for a long time for me

If you have an old Bimmer like me, you’ve found your new shop. These guys will make short work of BMW problems that baffle your average shade tree mechanic. Now I’m confident I can keep my 96 740il as long as I like without getting raped at the dealership. Luis has me on a maintenance schedule and can monitor all the systems. They’ve got all the specialized BMW equipment. They appreciate these vehicles.

Luis, the owner of this business, services the vehicles of two other members of my family, including my beloved 1995 Buick LeSabre.
I trust this cat so much, I can give him a blank check, and am never surprised by anything, except by how less expensive the total ends up being.

After many bad experiences with other auto shops that claimed to have proficiency in imports repair. only to find out they might have made the problem worse and more expensive. I found this shop on a local Saab blog. I had work done a few times on my Saab here. not only was the staff professional and courteous but the work was done asap and at a fair price. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this auto shop for your import.

I used to live near Andres Auto and I always took my cars into Luis every time something was wrong. I since moved to Lake view and after several disaster visits to other mechanics i now happily drive my car back to Andres for any repairs.
I would recommend to anyone in Chicago looking for a honest, educated mechanic outside of the expensive dealers to go to Andres Auto Service.

I have been having my cars handled by Andres for years and they are fantastic. Louis is the owner and has always been honest, upfront and fair. Having a good mechanic is one of those valuable things that you dont really appreciate until you’ve been to a non-​honest shop.
I believe they’ll work on any type of car, but they specialize in foreign which is great. Having a European car worked on by the dealer is insanely expensive. BMW, Audi, etc. Andres has all of the computer systems required to «plug in» to all of these foreign cars and is about ½ the price of the dealer.
They dont wash your car when it’s in service like the BMW dealership, but while it may seem free you’re definitely paying BMW handsomely for these added touches. I’d prefer to pay ½ on the actual service work and take my car to be washed down the street for $ 20.
I’ve recommended them to a few friends and their feedback has always been positive. You wont regret using these guys.

HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE! I called the day before and set up an appointment to take my Honda Civic in to get my AC re-​charged and to determine cause of check engine light being on. When I got there (on time) I told him (Luis) I had a 12pm appointment. He asked me all the same questions he had asked me the day before as he obviously hadn’t put any of my information in or scheduled me for an appointment.
Needless to say they were lots of cars there and I was told I’d have to wait an hour and 45 minutes just to be pulled in! Then I was told it’d cost me $ 75 to run a check on the engine light and another $ 75 for AC re-​charge. I asked if the $ 75 check for engine light would go towards my repairs he replied, «no that’s additional». Needless to say, I left as I didn’t feel I should have to wait nearly 2 hours when I made an appointment and neither did I feel I should have to pay the additional charge. If that was the case, I might as well had taken it to the dealership.
So if you’re looking for economical pricing and people to consider your time this is NOT the place to be!

I took my VW in for its 80k service and to have a few other small issues checked out last week, and was pleasantly surprised at the level of service I received. One of the main reasons (besides the proximity to home) for choosing this shop was the ease of scheduling an appointment online via their website, which is definitely cool.
My follow-​up phone calls from Luis were direct — I understood easily what needed to be completed, why, and how much it would cost. I didn’t feel pressured into having any work done I didn’t want to pay for right away, and felt valued as a customer and not just like I was being jerked around. I was happy to see that they had even taken my car to the car wash before I picked it up.
The only reasons for one missing star is that there is a lack of parking if you need to drop off after-​hours or early morning (your only option is really to park in the back alley, which may or may not be the safest place for your car).
Overall, I’d highly recommend Andre’s if you have a European (or other) car and need to find a knowledgable and trustworthy shop for repairs.

Luis and the guys at Andres Auto are the Best.
Clear, consice communication about the work they’re doing and the issues your vehicle faces. Prices are NOT CHEAP, but they ARE fair and lower than the ridiculous estimates I got from BMW dealers and Shops in closer to the loop.
Yes, they’re a bit out of the way, but they do the job right the first time and do it with integrity.
They are my 2004 BMW 325xi’s physicians. And they make that naughty little sports sedan do very naughty things indeed! LOL!

This Place is the bees knees. My car broke down and the mechanic by my house said I needed a new fuel pump and they were going to charge me 800 to fix it. I called around and andres quoted me 600. I get my car towed up to the shop they call me and they pull it off the truck and low and behold my car just decided to start right up. They were honest the called me to come get my running car and there was nothing wrong that they could see, Three years later no fuel pump needed, I guess all I really needed was an honest mechanic. Now I am eight hundos richer!

They did a good job fixing my (admittedly major) problem. They also gave me a loaner (for free) to use as a daily driver until I could get my own car back. The loaner was definitely at the bottom of my list when it comes to cars I would choose to drive (it was a Pontiac Bonneville), but it got me to and from work for the most part.
«For the most part???» Yeah, the defroster kind of overheated and stopped working during the biggest snow storm in December. I was less than thrilled with the prospect of having no heat to speak of, and having to peer through a tiny portion of the windshield that didn’t get iced over.
I could live with the loaner car, since it meant I didn’t have to go rent anything. The reason they get 2 stars is that it took them over a week to do the repair, and I was the one who had to call them every day to get an update on my car’s status.
Overall, the shop is technically competent, but it suffers with efficiency and service hiccups that are, frankly, unacceptable — especially when people are paying the kinds of prices they charge.

So I’ve been having some major issues with my car-wouldn’t start for one– and finding a new mechanic after moving here from Texas was not something I was looking forward to. However, after seeing tons of positive reviews on citysearch for this place, I called and within the hour my car was towed there and was ready the very next day. Andre, the owner, called me several times, was very nice throughout the process and very knowledgable. The cost was 700-​ouch!- seemed very steep but what do I know about cars? I had to get a lot done-​tune-​up, oil change, new serpentine belt, battery change, etc. I am taking 1 star off, though, b/​c of their towing charge-​90 bucks! I have had to get my car towed a few times to other mechanics in the past and was never charged a fee since I was getting a lot of work done, so I was surprised to see such an expensive charge for only a 10 minute tow. However, my car is running fantastic, so check this place out if you need a good mechanic.
UPDATE:
I realized after reviewing my bill that I was charged for a battery change when it wasn’t done, and one of the windshield wiper replacements was not working properly. At first I was a bit annoyed, as I imagine anyone would be, but I called and spoke to Luis-​he apologized profusely-​it was a miscommunication about the battery-​and asked me to bring it in. He removed the charge but changed the battery anyway, replaced my windshield wipers, and also checked coolant fluid. I am BIG fan of businesses that own up to their mistakes and go out of their way to correct them, so I bumped the stars up to 5. I will definately be back to this place, they are honest and reliable!

I thought twice about writing a review because Andre’s was recommended by a friend of a friend. But, this is business so here goes. I took my car in for an oil change; a $ 65 diagnostic test for the Check Engine light; a quote to fix my speedometer/​odometer and the driver’s side window. Luis was really nice and accomodating when I had to change my appt several times. He called me back in the afternoon with a list of estimates that did not include the speedometer because, as he says, it would involve extra labor because of the location and what was involved. After paying for the diagnostic check, I decided to take my car back so I could get a 2^nd opinion. My boyfriend, who is quite handy, offered to change the spark plugs and wires, something he’s done on his own vehicle. I popped the hood and seconds later he noticed that they left the spark plug wires unplugged — not cool! My bf managed to fix the speedomoter/​odometer by simply changing a fuse. I also had my window fixed for $ 85 somewhere else — $ 165 less than what it would have cost at Andre’s.
