Headmasters Salon and Spa

As of October 1, 2012 Headmasters Salon and Spa no longer is in business! This location and space has been completely renovated and remodeled and is under new management as an Image Consulting Company and full service salon called Lake Point Spa. The renovations are gorgeous! All clean, white, streamlined and modern. The service is totally different and the residents in the building can sense a major change.

I used a groupon for a spa mani and pedi. The woman who helped me (Zehyna?) was great, she did a great job. It’s almost a week later and no chips.
The salon itself is a little weak and a bit dated. It’s inside the Lake Point Towers Condo and it’s a bit out of the way. I went on a Friday at 5pm and the place was dead. Not sure what it’s like at other times, but it was a bit Twilight Zone like.
I wasn’t that impressed, but if the area were a bit more convenient then perhaps I would go back and give other services a shot. But, there are so many other places in the city…

I DO NOT RECOMMEND!!! When I made my appointment with groupon now deal they ask for Groupon number first. They called me 30 min before the appointment and told me they don’t take Groupon now deals anymore. They booked regular customer on my slot and refused to take me. Seriously is this how they do business???

The male, Indian-​sounding owner/​phone operator is a total asshole who aims to rip people off like a Nigerian prince.
He took my girlfriends’ groupon codes, scheduled appointments, then called later to say he can’t keep his word.
My guess is that he redeemed the codes with groupon, got paid, scheduled a full-​pay customer and simply called to cancel and tell them to get their refund through groupon (a company that cares a ton and will refund no matter what).
He is a disgrace to his people and should not be trusted to be running a clean, hygienic operation.
I would give no stars, if possible.
Because we were already in the area to make the appointment, I’ll stand outside this place and actively turn potential clients away. THAT’S how ridiculous his behavior was.

I used my $ 60 Groupon for a Microderm abrasion and signature facial and was disappointed.
I’m giving the salon 1 star because–
15 minutes late on starting appt
Facial scrub was all over my hair at the end of appt
The lady giving me my facial kept laying her arm on my hair when she was putting on masks.
Facial itself seemed like it was just ‘layered’ on without the same serum again & again.
Nothing was pleasant or relaxing about it at all.
She tried to sell me on some electrode for your face and it hurt terribly when I said no.
Save your $ and go elsewhere.

I had a groupon for microderm and a facial… If you still have to use yours– I HIGHLY recommend you request Puja as your esthetician. Puja took care of me and was amazing. Her hands were gentle and her massages were excellent. She was so easy to talk to and I honestly had such a great experience with her. I felt like I knew her for such a long time. My face was radiant, shining, and smooth after I was done. I have super sensitive skin so I was worried that my face would react later, but 24 hrs later, it is still doing just fine :) I must say though that their microderm machine is quite weak, so I’d recommend going elsewhere for microderm.
I gave 4 stars because it took me a good week and a half to finally reach someone to make an appointment with. I literally called everyday and honestly I cannot sit there and call twenty times a day and wait for someone to answer. Where the heck is the receptionist?! I left two messages which were each returned 2 days afterwards… I just don’t think its very professional. They have on online appointment maker but it doesn’t work, or at least did not last week. Puja– if you are reading this and ever decide to leave this place for a more professional salon– you better message me!
TIP: This salon is located inside the big condo building with the Cite restaurant. parking is 24 bucks for the first hour… I would suggest doing 2 hr parking a few blocks down from them– 7 bucks is a lot better than 24!

So the last time I went, I was offered the same deal if I prepaid. I took it, thinking I’d use it before my anniversary or something. I haven’t gotten to it yet because I haven’t had much time or money (for tip, since I always tip on the original price, which means at least $ 20), but I’ve called twice to schedule appointments, and been angered by their practices.
You see, I come from learning to schedule beauty appointments in advance. You know-​you want to make sure the person you want to see will be available when you need to come in. I’ve tried making appointments to see Puja in advance twice now. The fist time I wanted an appointment two weeks from then. I called and the rude person on their end told me to call back closer to the appointment. I figured I’d gotten someone who was having a bad day. I ended up not having time to go, so I didn’t make an appointment (it’s also kind of far from me). I tried again a couple months ago, and was met with the same reply.
What the heck, Headmasters? I mean, I get it. You’re not busy enough that it warrants appointments being scheduled a month or whatever in advance. However, it’s not cool to downright REFUSE to let someone make an appointment in advance if they want to. All I wanted to do was guarantee myself a spot when I had the time, but you were unwilling to do so. If I could, I’d ask for my credit card co to reverse the charges, but it was several months ago and the bill has been paid.
I can’t say I’m surprised that they haven’t sent me any reminders about the appointment I’ve paid for. They probably figure I’ve forgotten and they get that $ 60 without having done anything. Nope! I’m going on a cruise in March, so I will set my appointment closer to that.

My friends and I bought the October Pretty in Pink deal and booked ourselves for $ 31 massages. They have two massage therapists and since there were four of us, we had to wait for two to finish.
We were all very satisfied with our therapeutic massages. They were thorough and gentle but still managed to get all the knots out. Each of us were suffering from some issue or the other (neck, shoulders, lower back etc. pain) and we all came out feeling much better.
The spa is clean and the staff is friendly. I wouldn’t go here on a normal day because everything costs a bit more than I’m willing to pay. But if a great deal like this comes along, count me in.
PS — They prefer cash tips.

Heather is excellent as using pressure points where no other masseuse dared. Every pore is massaged to relaxation. Every muscle got attention. Maybe I should get a 2 hour massage next time. It was a terrible idea to go home after treatment.

Just got back from Headmasters Salon and Spa and I’m quite satisfied with my experience. I went for the October Pretty in Pink deal, $ 31 Women’s Haircut with customized deep conditioning treatment. I decided last minute to make an appointment this morning and was able to successfully get an appointment. During the day I also received a confirmation phone call from Maria, my stylist which was nice knowing that they received my request.
The place was a little difficult to find since it was inside the Lake Point Tower but not a biggie.
Maria was nice as she made small chat with me while washing my hair. I felt a little awkward sitting underneath the drier as my conditioner was settling in. Kind of wish I had something to read or do rather than hearing the loud drier and look around the salon. I was left unattended this whole time as my stylist was a little preoccupied with something on the side as I had to wait about 5 minutes after the drier was done. little awkward.
The rest of the hair cut was great. She was nice and took her time cutting my hair. She gave me tips on how to style my hair as I do very little to it daily.
All in all, I got a decent deal for my new haircut for $ 31 however I wouldn’t go paying the full price ($ 40 for the cut and $ 30 for the conditioning). It’s not that much of a connivence when it comes to location as it’s near Navy Pier not close to my work or where I live. However if you live near the area, and it’s still October or you have a Groupon, why not try it out.

So I bought a Groupon for the Spa mani & Spa pedi and today I called to make an appt. for Tues coming up she asked what services and I told her then I mentioned I had a groupon like your suppose to then she says hold on puts her hand over the phone mumbles something to someone then comes back on the phone and says I’m sorry the girl who does those is only her on Wednesdays or Sundays! I’m like what it doesn’t say any where in the fine print about only being able to do mani/​pedi on a certain day! So I called Groupon they looked through the fine print as well and said don’t know why they are saying that! I’m waiting for Groupon to get back to me after they contact them but now I just want my money back! They left a bad taste in my mouth and after reading a recent review about how someone recently went in for a mani/​pedi services and it wasn’t sanitary etc. I think I’ll pass!

Great job, Puja! I went in with a Groupon and did not know what to expect, especially that this was my first microdermabrasion. I was in very good hands. Puja was gentle, extremely knowledgeable and very kind. I am glad I was in her hands. My skin was not red at all after my over an hour procedure, where Puja was done exceptional job on the facial. Out of the whole salon, I would only recommend her and her services!

bought my 1^st Groupon and it was for Headmasters Spa at the North Lake Point Tower — Puja was a wonderful facialist and really does a great massage. The manicure and pedicure was perfect and Puja took her time — no rushing! imagine that! The spa is quiet and has a nice location away from the noise of the streetlevel…
This spa is realy worth a try — the regular prices are very good and service is superior!

It’s a quaint little salon in a luxury residence building on Lake Shore. It’s not the most easiest place to get to, but I walked to it from my job in Streeterville, and crossed Lake Shore by going through the underground tunnel on Ohio and Lake Shore Street.
I brought a Groupon for a one hour combined microdermabrasion and signature facial. Laura was very sweet and welcoming. She gave me a very quick consult and went to work, while maintaining small talk. The most discomfort I experienced was when the steam machine was blowing in my face for a good 15 minutes. I had a hard time breathing, but I survived.
However, Laura did a good job massaging my face, being very gentle, even incorporating a neck, shoulder, and arm massage.
I’m not too experienced with these types of services, but I think I would have preferred more natural and gentle products. The products used felt harsh and slightly stingy on my skin and it did not smell that great.
Three stars because it was barely a 40 minute facial, not the 60-​minute as advertised, and I’m sure the products used are not very healthy for sensitive skin like mine, which I made sure to write on the questionnaire and state directly to Laura. I originally was going to give it 2 stars, but Laura was very gentle and kind.
My face does feel smooth, but not firm or tight, and my pores look larger than usual. After a few hours my face began to feel itchy and it became irritated (splotchy). I fixed that myself by using my Clinique products.
At least I tried a facial and it didn’t cost too much, but I wouldn’t pay the original value price of $ 120 to do it again, or invest in a discounted 5 sessions.

I went for the mani-​pedi that was offered recently through Groupon.
My experience was «ok.»
I was really happy with the nail polish colors I chose and w/​the eyebrow & upper lip threading (I paid extra) — however my feet hurt today & my fingernails still have hang nails on them!
Since I don’t often (we’re talking like once every couple of years) get a pedicure in a salon I didn’t realize the manicuritst should be using more water with the callus wand. It did feel a little «dry and scratchy» but I guess I thought that might be normal. Although, when she went up on the outsides of my feet it definitely hurt but I thought I should just suck it up — and I guess I figured she would realize she was «going to town on my feet.» How was I to know I’d end up with abrasions on the outside of my foot the next day?
Additionally I have to admit that yes I did «warn» her of two fingers that had «sore» spots on them so she’d be careful, however she had free reign to remove cuticle on my other fingers… and I’m still left with dry skin around my fingernails :(
A note about cleanliness:
I noticed multiple hairs (not my own and all diff lengths) on my feet/​legs from the «clean» towel that she used to remove the spa masque from my feet and legs. Eeew!
The floors looked somewhat unswept and unmopped & other materials just did not look clean — like the outside of the foot basin… If my feet are going inside something that is supposed to be hygenic/​sanitized I think the outside should be clean when she puts her hand on it.
I’m not going back.

So happy I found this hidden salon. Quiet, comfortable and unpretentious.
I’ve been here twice for a no-​chip manicure, and was very happy with the results.
The prices are also pretty reasonable, especially for being in Streeterville.

I went in for the Pretty in Pink special and treated myself to a massage, facial and a haircut. The massage was great and I have zero complaints about it. Then I moved on to the facial with Puja. She was the nicest lady ever. I did feel however that I was being pushed to buy more products when I just wanted to lay and relax. Then comes the hair appointment. First off Maria was running very late because of a doctors appointment. I understand things happen so I just sat staring at the wall since there are zero magazines to look at. The bald guy kept telling me she should be there any minute…25 minutes later Maria is there. In the description you are supposed to get a scalp massage and this should be relaxing. Wrong. More like wham bam move over. While I am sitting with my hair wet, a extra special client called and needed in right away, so Maria said «you don’t mind if I take care of her first? I always said I would take care of her, no matter how busy I am.» Um ok, rude. The woman came downstairs and she honestly looked like she could wait… but instead she did not give a crap either, because I looked like a small time person with no money and she was talking about how much money she had. Little does Maria know, I LOVE to overtip the hell out of people. After I FINALLY am done, Maria tells me since I was a client sent from heaven that day, she will leave me with a goody bag since I was soooo nice; well it seems that EVERYONE gets a free goody bag. Then I was pushed out of the building by the old bald man because my parking ticket was going to go up in price… perhaps you could have PAID for it since I sat and did not complain about waiting for Maria. I would NEVER get my hair done there ever again. The massage was good, but its not worth the trouble of going back there. Also the facial was nice, but I have a place that I enjoy going to. The only reason I am giving two stars is for the facial and massage.

I recently went in for a swedish massage with Emily and thought she was awesome! The salon itself is very clean and they have great customer service. The only thing I didn’t love was the location, it’s in the Lake Point Towers which is right in Navy Pier. You have to valet… you know how that goes but other than that, it was great!

I also took advantage of the Pretty in Pink specials and would have given them 4 stars but there were a couple things that occurred that I had to give them a lower rating.
I’ll start off with the good parts:
1) The salon was clean and organized well.
2) Everyone who worked there was friendly.
3) Swedish Massage with Emily — this was so relaxing. When you come to the salon, they ask you to fill out some paperwork and ask what kind of pressure to apply. Emily definitely read this as she applied the appropriate pressure for the massage. It was also from head to foot which was a nice surprise.
4) I liked that they confirmed the appointment.
5) If you are not pleased with your service, they will try and make up for it.
6) They participated in the Pretty In Pink promotion for Breast Cancer Awareness.
Now, for the not so good parts:
1) The massage rooms are still close to the manicure/​pedicure area so if people are talking, you can hear them. There is a door to separate the salon part from the massage area, but the employees need to make sure that it’s closed.
2) They did not inform me that my hair appointment was rescheduled to a later time … so of course that was not a good surprise.
3) As a result of the mixed up scheduling, my haircut with Maria was fast and the cut was not even. I had to go back to get the cut fixed, which she did and did it well. She even said that I could go back to her for a complimentary blow-​out or any touch up, which I thought was great.
Unfortunately this place is hidden from the public so I’m glad they advertised themselves and participated in the Pretty in Pink promotion. Overall the prices are reasonable and I would definitely go back for another massage.

I love love loved this salon!
Granted, I went with the Pretty in Pink promotion for breast cancer awareness month, so I was getting a bargain — $ 31 for a haircut and treatment. But I got fantastic service, so much so that I’d be happy to pay full price — and have already booked my next appointment, in fact.
Maria was lovely. She also did an excellent job on my hair, trimming it just enough while diplomatically chopping off the ends that ‘looked a bit lonely’ (i.e. were as ratty as a rat). Then a meticulous blow dry.
The Alterna Ten treatment I had was also fantastic. Apparently it contains ten exotic ingredients — I only remember caviar and champagne grapeseed oil, and have no idea if these are renowned for their hair curing properties — but it did the trick. Maria told me that the shampoo conditioner and treatment cost over $ 200 retail so your hair is getting a real treat with this stuff.
Finally, Maria gave me a ton of samples. This might be because she was overwhelmed at how dry and neglected my hair was! But she was extremely generous and seemed genuinely interested in me going back to let her know whether they worked or not.
And I will return! They also do facials and waxing etc., the salon itself is quiet and relaxing, and it’s handily inside Lakeshore Point (the entrance of which is on Grand, by the way, so don’t wander all the way around the building as I did before finding it!). Their prices are reasonable.
A bit of a new hidden gem, I encourage everyone to go.
