Fifth Third Bank

Went into this branch to add my wife onto my checking that I had with ⁵⁄₃. First time there checks were ordered wife’s name added and new debit cards sent. Except that we ended up never receiving checks and when we went back in to see why we never received them, they said it does not show that any were ordered. So we ordered them again. Then we got the new debit cards with my wife’s name spelled wrong. I went in again and they ordered her a new card. Then we get the checks and they are not the checks that we picked out, so I go back and had to order the new checks again. We get the next new debit card, and my wife’s name is still spelled wrong. We go back and they said that there was no note or change made before. New card was ordered again. New checks came in still wrong. Called and complained and just said screw it and are using the wrong checks. Her card came back again with the wrong name, and we have just washed our hands with it, and will soon be moving to PNC and closing all of ⁵⁄₃ accounts. They are so incompetent at this location that it should be avoided at all costs.

I like when the branch manager is chomping his gum in my face telling me why he can’t do something (even though every other branch has done it for YEARS). Then gives me the condescending «I’ll do it this ONCE» like I’m some sort of a criminal. I think they don’t need to worry about customer service because their branch is so far removed from the real world. Either way, it’s located directly behind my office – yet I will never go there again. After two terrible experiences (the first involved a banker who was clueless on how to problem solve or even console a panicked customer and the second described above) I will never go back.
I’m embarrassed that those two gentlemen still have a job. They would seem better fit in a frat house than in a bank dealing with the public.

I reported this branch to the Illinois Attorney General and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau regarding false material promises, hidden fees, never-​materializing promotions and unauthorized account drafts for financial products I never signed up for. They knowingly commit fraud but are given incentives at the individual level to do so.
Never-​ending story made short: Eventually, after 10 months, the Illinois attorney general’s investigation resulted in a letter of apology from the VP’s office of ⁵⁄₃^rd.
Then I closed the accounts and took all my money out, confirming with the manager at different branch that all was square. End of story right? It was– until a letter appeared in the mail that they have turned me over to a collection agency because after I cloud my account they began to charge me monthly for not having money in the account! Those fees resulted in other fees for not having funds in there to cover their «you don’t have funds» fees! There were more fees for not ‘making the account positive’ when it was negative before the end of the month too!
Three months of more phone calls. When I called their 1800 number, an agent put me on hold, and I could hear a customer giving their account and social security information over to a bank representative. I tried getting their attention, but they couldn’t hear me, and so I hung up and called them back. When I informed the new representative of the problem– no apology– she said they were already aware of the phone problem and when pressed for disclosure, could offer no guarantees that someone could be listening to our very conversation as well.
Another letter of apology after this new fiasco finished. Moral of the story: RUN from this bank!

How to find this Fifth Third? Starting from Upper Wacker, walk south along Columbus until you reach the CVS directly across from the Aon Center’s east entrance. Turn left just past the CVS and walk towards the back of it. When you reach the end of this sidewalk, look to your right, and you will find stairs. Walk down these stairs. Once you’ve reached the bottom, walk straight (north), and follow the street as it curves around to somehow become South Water Street. Continue along South Water past Waterside Drive. This Fifth Third will be conveniently located on your left. It’s that easy!
