If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. I strongly advise you to find another storage unit in the area. The management staff (this includes the top mgmt in Utah) are unprofessional and the company policies are only
self serving and not in the customer’s interest. They attract you with lower fees and then they hike up the rate to over 3 times the original amount and then they have policies in place to help them sell your things, which should be illegal. There were no phone calls, no emails, no communication at all. This is my first Unilocal review and I’m only doing this to help inform others. Thankfully, I was able to fix everything in time, but with their recent staff turnover it was a miracle.

We have used Extra Space Storage on and off for about 4 years and have had practically every size storage unit. We have received nothing but the BEST service from John and his staff. The building has been totally remodeled and the facility is so clean and we would highly recommend to anyone looking for storage needs.

Great place, John is an ultra-​helpful and gracious manager… highly recommended.

I had a great experience with renting a storage unit with Extra Space Storage. It is clean, reasonably priced, and conveniently located. John and Alex were friendly and professional.

When you need that extra space this is the place. After moving from a suburban home into the city, space became a huge challenge. John helped us find just the right size and the first month was free. He and his assistant Alex are professional and reliable. The site is accessible and convenient for the area in Chicago.

I have been using this facility for the past 2 years. Recently I found I needed more storage space and upgraded to a larger unit. I have worked with both John and Alex, and find them to bevery professional and helpful. Both have gone out of there way to be helpful. It is this kind of personal attention that makes the experience a pleasant one.

I decided to rent a 5×10 foot storage unit from this Extra Space storage location on Wabash and 13^th st. The facility is fine but there were some serious discrepancies in the price I was quoted by the salesperson on the phone and the price I eventually had to pay. Alex, the manager at this location, only told me about a $ 22 «administrative fee» as well as a required monthly insurance which you are required to pay once I was already at the location and at the check out counter. The unit itself costs well over $ 100 monthly and it was upsetting to find out after I arrived at this location that the cost was significantly more than I had been told on the phone. Again, the facility itself is fine but there are plenty of other storage companies in the area that may offer more competitive (and honest) rates.

Just adding my high praise for John and Alex to the fray. We needed a small unit for packing up a college student for year end. It is freshman year and we are 1000 miles away so didn’t know where to start. S Wabash was close to the dorm and after the high praise from this site and others I visited in person. Alex couldn’t have been nicer showing the facility and answering all my questions. Jump ahead to this week when we are ready to pay and sign contract in Massachusetts (John explained over the phone that it could be done at any location, but must be done in person) for the unit in Chicago. At the MASS location, the person was a nightmare to deal with. Couldn’t get the computer to work but somehow was able to sign us in 19 times and charge us (4) $ 22 service fees, along with not being able to get the contract to print so we could complete the transaction. We are at the 14 day deadline so it had to be completed. Once again, John to the rescue. Straitened out from 1000 miles away what the guy in front of me couldn’t do. My daughter and her roommates were able to go to the Chicago location yesterday and get their lock (that we purchased from Mass) and they are good to go. You can’t go wrong here, Folks!

They do a nice job here, I just rented a space and Alex and John went out of their way to make sure I was happy. Very easy load in load out, clean bright facility I am more than satisfied with my choice so far.

I read about the great reviews for this storage facility — it sounded too good to be true. BUT IT IS! The location, access, lighting, temperature, the fantastic layout of a 8×7 locker (like you’re walking into a small room), and the friendly staff. John & Alex are extraordinary. I have rented at 2 other spots nearby and each facility pales in comparison to Extra Storage Space. Would I recommend? You betcha’

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING STORAGE FACILITY!!! Cannot say enough amazing things about this place, the manager John is FANTASTIC! He’s so professional and actually appreciates customers doing business with him unlike Public Storage! I moved here after a horrible experience at the Public Storage on S Wabash and John was incredibly accommodating and helpful. This location also has a free parking lot in back! So convenient and is even cheaper per month than public storage! Can’t believe I didn’t come here sooner, you will be so happy you signed up with Extra Space storage and specifically at this location! They’re so nice and professional-​John and Alex are the best, be sure to ask for them!

I had a really great experience at Extra Space Storage! I needed to store my stuff for the summer while I worked at a summer job in Maine. It was very clean and the employees, especially John, we not only helpful but friendly and very patient. It has been a very smooth process, and very affordable as well. I will definitely be using them again next summer and I would recommend them to a friend!

In my industry (pharma sales), I visit a lot of storage facilities and deal with a lot of managers. In terms of service, this place is still the very best, as is the general manager, John, who has worked here for years.

This is my first time renting a storage unit and due to the kind and comfortable environment created, it was a great transition. I recommend anyone looking for a storage unit in the South loop to use Extra Space.

I had a very positive experience with Extra Space. When in transition with my move I needed a storage facility nearby. This isn’t the most exciting endeavor and I figured it would be as irritating as the rest of the moving process. I was pleasantly surprised by this facility, however. Shaun (sp?) was always very friendly and helpful, she’s great. The other staff I encountered were also very friendly each time. The rates and rental process is straight-​forward, easy, explained clearly, etc. Move-​in and out was a breeze. The only issue /​‘head’s up’ (and this is just a result of being a storage facility in the middle of a big city probably) is that sometimes during busy move times (beginning/​end of the month) the loading dock gets busy and the free carts they offer to help move items get snatched up quickly. I wasn’t a fan of the placement of the huge dumpster in the back of the facility RIGHT at the base of the ramp. so if you’re moving things to your car, for example, with a cart or dolly, you sort of have to dodge the giant dumpster positioned horribly at the base of the ramp. When it gets crowded you can’t maneuver around the dumpster very easily with large items. The energy saving lighting throughout the facility is probably good for the environment, they turn on when motion is sensed on each floor’s hallway, but they sure turn off quickly! So when you’re moving lots of items in and out of your storage unit, you’re forced to stop what you’re doing when things go pitch-​black, walk a few feet down the hallway, do a little dance to get the lights to sense your motion and turn back on, and then go back to what you’re doing. Maybe these could be set to stay on more than a couple minutes at a time. Otherwise, this is a great facility. Piping classic rock into the hallways of every floor helps make the otherwise mundane task of moving things in and out more enjoyable :)

I called extraspace after receiving recommendations to rent with this particular facility. I spoke with the store manager, John, who was very nice & informative. I went down to their facility & he showed me around and he keeps it very clean. They have 24 hour surveillance here which I love. I do recommend to rent at this facility (other extra spaces are not as clean) & to ask for John!
