This is the only place to get your hair cut and colored. EDIT. it’s what they do. They customize your experience tailored to your specific needs. I can’t imagine going anywhere other than Patrick to get my haircut. I’ve known him for many years and he is a true master of his craft.
Spike Lee said it best, «Do the right thing.»

One word: GIL. No matter what kind of hair you have, trust that Gil will cut it beautifully. I have been seeing Gil for over 4 years, including at a previous salon. He is not only an amazing stylist but an amazing person. I love the fact that I really don’t have to say much and can simply trust that he will make my hair work.
It is also easy to make and reschedule appointments via email, which I appreciate. LaRae is very helpful to this end.
As an aside, edit has also been very supportive of my philanthropic endeavors over the past two years in donating a cut or color for fundraisers I’ve hosted. It means a lot that a salon supports its customers in that way for a good cause.
Bottom line: if you are not 100% satisfied with your current stylist, Go.See.Gil. He is a wizard!

Finally, I have found a great Salon for myself! At first, I usually don’t like salons to be honest because I can’t trust any one cutting my long smooth nice hair, not even trimming it, that’s just big NO to me. especially when they use the RAZOR technique convincing you that’s the new special technique and would give you a nice style! NO don’t believe that, it’s not true! And not healthy for the hair! It will give you more split ends!!! I definitely recommend Edit Salon for all.

I’ll start off by saying that I usually hate salons because my hair always turns out terrible after. Since my last horror experience, I hadn’t done anything to my hair for two years. A few days ago, I decided I wanted to try highlights and based on the Unilocal reviews, requested an appointment through their website. They responded very promptly (2 business hours) and I came in the next day.
As soon as I arrived, I was seated instantly and began consulting with Allison about what kind of highlights I wanted. I came in with the vague idea of ash-​toned highlights but I had no examples (not even any pictures), and I wasn’t even sure whether that’s what I actually wanted. Basically, I was the difficult customer who is picky but doesn’t know what she wants. Allison recommended warmer, dark caramel highlights (I’m a brunette) because it didn’t require bleaching and was less of a hassle for first-​time highlights. I didn’t want my hair to look too brassy, but she sounded like she knew what she was talking about so I let her do her thing. On a side note, she’s pretty attuned to people. I was exhausted so, while I had a few questions, I was quiet almost the entire time and it didn’t feel awkward. She seems like the type to happily talk to you the entire time if you’d like or just leave you to your thoughts.
Two hours later, I was handed off to Mila who was very friendly and talkative. (Bonus: She speaks Russian!) I told her that I was trying to grow my hair out and to please PLEASE for the love of god not to cut off more than, like, half an inch. Even though she would have preferred to take off an inch because of the split ends, this girl is the first person in years who LISTENED and did exactly as I asked! And she’s not the type to insist because she actually suggested I get layers at first (I agreed as long as she kept the longest layer actually long) but then changed her mind because my hair was a bit too thin on the ends. It’s nice to know my hairdresser doesn’t have itchy fingers to cut cut cut. She also gave me tips on how to keep my hair more hydrated.
Final thoughts: The highlights look really nice and natural like I wanted. I should have gone with the ash-​toned ones though because that’s what I came in wanting. However, for my first time, I’m glad I listened to Allison and went with the warmer tones. It would have taken even longer with the bleach and I wasn’t ready for that. Besides, I’ve gotten multiple compliments since I left. Mila listened to me and didn’t cut off more than I wanted which puts her at the top automatically, hands down.
They’re definitely pricey but what’s great is that on their website, they have full highlights listed as $ 150+ so I assumed they’d charge me more since I have long hair but no, it was $ 150 on the dot. My trim and blow-​dry/​straightening was $ 55 (which reflects what their website says). In all, I was expecting to spend way more than $ 205 pre-​tip so I was pleasantly surprised. I’ll be back!

I hate what was done to my hair. The stylist was a total sweetheart and I did what I never do: relax and just let the person ply their trade without my anxious commentary. I have a terrible layering job that I didn’t ask for. I always say to please preserve my length, that I wanted only to cut the dry parts off my very long hair. I cannot even believe how short the outer layers are and how absurd it all looks now that I’ve washed and dried it. He even said, «you won’t need to blow/​brush it out like this» taking care to respond to the comments I was making about needing to remain super low maintenance, wash and wear. To fix this cut I am going to need someone to cut my hair short short. I’m pissed, really. What did I just drop $ 75 on? I know this guy must know what he’s doing, but not with my hair. I just look awful. It’s blunt and all one length underneath and over this he cut off up to three inches. If you Google «bad layered haircut» it comes up with chop jobs like the one I have. I want my money back, honestly. I really, really, hate my hair right now and I’m pissed off that I will be living with this for a long, long time. Two stars because he was nice, because there is a salon dog, because it’s a decent location, because I was given water, and because the place was clean. I really like the stylist as a person, but why in the hell he did this to my hair I cannot know, unless he was secretly trying to be mean.

I’ve been going to Edit Salon since 2012 and have continuously had a positive experience! I see Amy for color and Johnny for cut, and I always leave the salon with a fabulous, on-​point color and cut. Both Amy and Johnny are awesome and I hope they stick around!

I don’t have words to describe how great this place is! Johnny has been cutting my hair for about a year, and I’ve tried some crazy colors with Allison (blue and purple!!!). Great service all around.

My mom and I came here while in town. I looked up salons in the Chicago area and went with this one based off the good reviews. I had a cut with Johnny and my mom was with Mila. We were offered wine as soon we we checked in. Johnny was super sweet and talkative. Made you feel real comfortable. And my mom said she really liked her haircut with Mila. I liked that they aren’t a pushy salon with the products. That’s one thing i hate when going to new salons, but i didn’t have to deal with that here. I’d definitely return next time I’m in the area.

I went to Edit my first time yesterday and I can’t say it was an experience I would recommend to anyone. Amy did ombré on my hair and she wonderful and nice, but the results was not really what I expected. I took a picture of my hair before and after I did my hair and I was trying to go lighter but I honestly did not see much a difference. All I think was done to my hair was bleach and it was not worth the 200 $ that I paid. On a side note, the receptionist was not very friendly to me. She looked very disinterested and when I told my friend she said she noticed that she was friendly to her but not to me. I was told that I wouldn’t the color I wanted so I did understand that but I felt like 200 $ just to bleach my hair was too much. I didn’t achieve ombré.

I really like this place in the West Town. Easy walk from CTA blue line stop and a cozy place. They work late hours so its easy to come after work, though you still need to book early. I choose Mila for hair cuts and Amy for color and they both do a really good job.

I have been going to Edit for over a year and I can’t believe I haven’t written a review yet. After living in the city for a few years, I still hadn’t found my «groove» as far as a colorist. Low and behold I met Yvette, an angel in disguise. Every time I go, I tell her what I want and she always nails it to a tee, which is so hard to find. It is so typical to tell a stylist what you have in mind and they try to sway you in another direction but she take what I want and makes it look even better than I imagined. I have been doing Ombré with her and the bleached part lasts so long and looks fresh even after a few months. Also she is so sweet and gives THE BEST head massages when she washes your hair!
The salon itself is beautiful and very clean. Definitely has more of a «hip» yet comfortable layout. I have only used the color services but I am planning to start getting cuts there too.

Let me tell you about Mila :) I hadn’t had a hair cut in what felt like years, but she brought it back to life with some layers and was still able to keep the length. I LOVE my haircut and will definitely be going back. Great stylist and a sweetheart!

I made an apptmt online which is basically a request. What I liked was that they emailed me about my preferred apptmt. YES! Thank you, if I am trying to book online either I am antisocial and dont want to talk to you OR I am unable to realistically talk on the phone during work hours (these jobs do exist).
I loved the salon! Beautiful décor. The staff was super nice. Unpretentious but an upscale, relaxed vibe.
Yvette did my color. It was PERFECT. EXACTLY what I wanted… no joke. I have gotten so used to mediocre hair salons, but this is it! Perfect blond tone that I asked for. Plus, she has a fantastic personality.
I havent tried any cutting people yet. That will be on my next visit. I am not crazy about the compartmentalized departments, but it makes sense. I hope its as seamless as the color.
Only other thing is… dont expect to get caught up on smut people or OK magazine… only nice magazines here :)
And selfishly, its convenient for me to get to. Easy to make an apptmt and easy street parking if you must drive

Their lemon herb tea is great! Try that if you are a tea lover. The store is bright and clear, bad wifi and phone signal. So prepare for a very focused haircut experience haha. My hair cut last an hour long.

I found my new hair stylist… Pat! This is a very professional and fun salon. The staff is kind and accommodating. I got the keratin treatment which I love love love! Thank you Edit salon for making me look (more) beautiful ;-)

When I moved to Chicago last year I was extremely nervous about finding a new salon, so much so that I waited a LONG time and my what had been vibrant pink/​purple hair looked like a sad mess of worn out violet by the time I found Edit. I made an appointment for a cut by Johnny and color by Alison. It was the best choice I could have made! Johnny took all the gross dead ends off and made sure I actually had some shape to my hair again. Alison took the great challenge of being my colorist lol, I get extremely bored with my hair and by the time I got to her decided I wanted to take my hair bleach blonde. She made it happen and now we’ve been through a few colors together! I’m at the salon just about once a month because I hate having any type of roots growing out and recently Alison had me come in to try a new treatment they got called Olaplex. I’ll be honest, I have NO idea what it actually is. What I do know is that my hair is like silk now for the first time in ages because of how much I put it through (curling irons, blow drying, flat irons, coloring once a month, long days in the sun, you name it and I’ve probably damaged my hair from it). I was skeptical of my hair actually staying nice and silky after it went through a few washes but it’s still great. My hair was knotted and dry from product and sleeping on it, got in the shower and as soon as the water hit it it smoothed out and was tangle free and silky again.
All in all I can’t say enough good things about the salon and everyone in it, from Patrick, LaRae, Alison and Johnny, they all are fantastic and will do pretty much anything to make sure you’re happy when you leave. It is worth noting that there IS a dog there from time to time, Herb, who is a sweetie pie and will come up to your chair to get pet while you’re being worked on haha
I’m dreading the day I move from Chicago and have already forewarned my fiancé that I will be traveling back to Chi JUST to get my hair done because I trust these guys so much. Go here, you won’t regret it!

I can’t understand all the great reviews about this salon. I decided to try it because of the good Unilocal ratings and was very disappointed by all three visits.
The first time, a saw a stylist who is no longer there. She was very professional and the cut was ok, though not really what I asked for. It was difficult to style and did nothing for me.
I came back and saw the owner. I have a lot of hair and specifically asked him to remove a lot of the weight. He refused to do that and instead gave me lots of awkward layers that just accentuated the thickness of my hair in all the wrong places. I came back once more, and this time his attempt at removing weight left me with a poofy shelf halfway up my hair that I spent months growing out and having another stylist fix. It seems there is just a lack of technique and understanding of how to manipulate different hair types.
On top of this, both haircuts with the owner left a chunk or two longer than the rest of the hair that I had to fix when I got home. I understand that mistakes happen, but at this price point I expect at least the basics to be done right.
The experience left something to be desired as the owner kept gossiping about former employees. Again, at this price point I expect better.

I’ve been trying to grow my hair for the longest time, with no success. It becomes brittle, dry, damaged, and everything else you can imagine. I tried micro-​loop hair extensions but they only made matters worse — I ended up with thin, lifeless hair.
So after some research here in Unilocal I decided to go with Edit salon because I read many good reviews from my fellow Unilocalers, and also had a friend who’s a regular this place. I didn’t pick a stylist, as I wanted (NEEDED) an appointment today. They placed me with Johnny, this extremely friendly Lebanese stylist. And he did a PERFECT job! I am so happy with my result! Johnny is extremely skilled. He explained to me how he would ideally «fix» my hair, step by step. Oh, and you haven’t lived until you experience his scalp massage. I was in heaven! And on top of it all he is the nicest and sweetest person! In love with him!
I feel so pretty right now. This was an incredible salon experience (relatively quick too! As I hate spending hours in a salon). Best of all they are located in my hood, which will most definitely contribute to make me a regular!
I’m almost holding my compliments because I don’t want everyone going to book with Johnny, just because I don’t want him to be all around busy and with no time for me! Lmao! But seriously, the guy is an artist! Thank you Johnny!!!

So, I very rarely write reviews, just because I never have experiences that are overly wonderful or horrible. Last night, I got a haircut and blowout by Johnny, and I was just completely thrilled. It is one of the best cuts I’ve had in years, and after trying tons of new stylists, I’ve finally found one who I will come back to every time. He is sweet, and talented, and funny, and knows what he’s doing. I’ve never understood people who pay for blowouts without a cut, but after Johnny’s blowout, I totally get it.
So talented, so worth it.
