I cannot say enough about these guys! My 2013 Toyota Highlander was towed to Davila, suggested by AAA, because my engine wasn’t running right and some dash lights turned on. I was hesitant because my car had only been to a dealership, my experience was great! Turns out a rat (welcome to Chicago) had made its way into my engine and chewed some of the wiring! They showed me everything (gross) and assured me they would inspect everything and replace what was necessary. I called back a couple of hours later — they had fixed everything and the charge was $ 210!!! I thought this was a steal — I’m sure the dealership or a dishonest mechanic would have taken me for a ride. When I picked up my car, they were so concerned that it not happen again. I’m so thrilled with my experience with Davila. Go there.

I’ve taken my car to Davila several times over the past few years and have always been treated graciously. They quickly give me estimates and have almost always had my car ready the same day I dropped it off. Their prices are fair and their service is reliable which is why I keep coming back.

Great neighborhood mechanic. Everyone at Davila– from the receptionist to owner– is welcoming and professional. I have been here several times for work that has involved: Oil changes, tune-​ups, and catalytics. Turn around time depends on the type of work and previous business work load. However, you can always call ahead to make an appointment and establish time expectations. Prices are reasonable, though certainly less than corporate mechanics. (AAA members still receive a 5% discount.) Equally as important as price, the mechanics are *knowledgeable and trustworthy.* They are also sympathetic of tight budgets. For example, they will gladly separate their recommendations into primary and secondary repairs. The key here is dialogue– Talk to them!

Took my car in last week because some lights were on that were causing it not to be able to pass Emissions. Other than the lights being on the car was driving perfectly fine.
They kept the car for a day and called me and said they were trying to clean out a filter to fix it. I called back the next day and they said they weren’t able to get it fixed but they were able to get it to pass emissions somehow for the brief moment when they got the light to go off and that it would cost $ 350.00 for the work they did. My husband paid them and then when I went to pick-​up the car in their lot after hours and drive home the car was practically undriveable! It was cluncking when I shifted from Park to Drive, or from drive to reverse and then it was barely shifting from 1^st gear to 2^nd gear and it kept surging when I hit the gas. We went back the next day to ask what had happened and they tried telling us that we brought the car in in this condition and all we got from them was a «I’m sorry my friend…» I mean seriously!!! What a bunch of jerks not to own up to the «work» that they did. We had to go on a trip the next day for Easter and ended up having to rent a car because our car that we just paid $ 350 dollars on to pass emissions was now undriveable!
The next week I had to drive the car for work and I was so upset on the condition they gave it back to me in that I called back and spoke to the owner, Davila. He told me to bring the car back in and he would look at it. I went for a test drive with him and he said it was a simple fix on the motor mount that was causing the cluncking noises. I asked him how much it would cost and he told me «don’t worry about it, I want to make this right». I left the car with him in hopes he was actually going to help this time and with fear that I might come back and have a car that didn’t even run or something. He called me that day and said he needed to order a part and that he would have to keep it over the weekend. Again I asked him how much and he said it’s not a big deal. I was prepared to offer some money when I came to pick it up if he was actually able to solve the problem. Then when I called on Monday to ask if the part had come in and if the car was ready he called me back and said it would be $ 342.00 dollars! and that he actually spent way more in labor and he was giving me a deal and wanted to keep me as a customer!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME???
After bringing in a perfectly running, driveable car, paying them for trying to fix it but then getting back a car that barely ran because of something they had done that they wouldn’t own up to, they then have the nerve to try to have me pay them AGAIN! No way! Not happening! I went to pick up the car and ended up talking to the owner and after going around and around and fighting for my rights as a customer he finally agreed that I should just take the car. He never admitted that he or his mechanics did anything wrong though or apologized for the situation. At least I got my car back in the condition I dropped it off in and the lights got fixed. I don’t know why they couldn’t be upfront with me from the beginning. It’s appauling that someone would charge you money and give you back a broken car and then ask me to pay again.
Unless you want an ulcer and $ 1,000 drained from your bank account stay away from this shop! They are total scammers and not trustworthy of getting your business.

Please avoid. We went to Davila due to a friend’s referral. However, the service we received was disappointing. The mechanic suggested we change about 6 different parts including an air filter and the spark plugs which he claimed were not even the correct plugs for our car. After giving an outrageous estimate for this laundry list of items, we asked if it would fix our car’s original problem with intermittently dying due to heat. He said he would have to check the car again to see if something needed to be changed. This was the reason we brought the car there and communicated this at the start. We left and received a second opinion. Their claims were unsupported and unhelpful. And those spark plugs were the CORRECT plugs already.
Beware… Don’t get swindled.

These guys came recommended to me by AAA. From start to finish the entire process was one of the most pleasant one’s I’ve ever had and I have never said that about taking my car into any auto repair.
1. They have a tow service available (cheaper than if you have to pay for AAA)
2. Someone called me right a way with an estimate that I thought was only for parts but turns out for parts and labor.
3. I asked him to check on something else for me and he did a free estimate. He was completely understandable when I told him I would have to come back for that.
4. AAA members get a 5% discount.
5. The customer service was unbelievable from start to finish and that goes a long way in my book.
Yea. Im never going to take my car anywere else.

We have an old car and had it fixed — new alternator and transmission to steering column cables. Just two weeks later, we had another problem. They fixed it for no charge even though the issue had nothing to do with the previous problems. A service center with a Heart!

It is rare that I walk away from a mechanic feeling that I didn’t get ripped off. Not only did these guys do the repair for less than half the amount of another shop quote, they took the time to show me the part that they swapped out and explain exactly what the problem was. Two thumbs up!

I’ve had a good experience every time I’ve gone here. People are extremely friendly. The work they do is honest, timely, affordable and thorough. If there are any problems, they honor their warranty policy, no questions asked.
I would highly recommend them to family and friends.

These guys are great and super honest. I don’t have a garage so somethings have to be done there. My wife took her car there for a brake pad replacement and they only replaced what needed replacing. Told her it needed nothing more than brake pads and that was it. Another time, my brakes failed and I had to go there ASAP. I was strapped for cash and Gabino was super honest. He got my car on a lift and showed me that all it needed was a brake line that had ruptured. He fixed it and the owner accepted a check. 45 minutes is all it took. I sent my buddy there and they were totally honest and let him know that his truck needed no repair as it was just a common noise from his truck. NO charge for the assessment. When you go there ask for Gabino. This dude is rad and so is his boss.

I’ve had several jobs performed there, pretty much because it was recommended by a friend and close to my job at the time.
Davila is somewhat pricey. For instance, I had front brakes and disc rotors replaced, valve cover gaskets and oil pressure switch-​COST $ 1324.12. This was performed in August 2007.
And just like all the other prior times (4x) I went to them, I had to return a week later because something wasn’t totally fixed. However, Davila honors it’s warranties but for the prices they charge, I shouldn’t have to go back a second and third time for the same thing to be refixed. For isntance, I just had my brakes replaced in August 2007 and 2 months later I had to go back to have them replaced, but for free. Now, I’ve moved to Atlanta and their acting up again! I was charged $ 300 for that brake job.
Why, did I keep going back? Again, it was close to the job and car dealers are so expensive; however I think I was better off going to the original dealer.
P. S.–Davila left my car out on the streets during no parking hours and got a ticket on my car, but they paid it. They lost my keys one time!
Sorry, I can’t recommend this shop, but very friendly people.
Just Beware!

I went here for the first time after my car got broken into and the steering column needed to be replaced; it was the only auto shop that AAA would tow to for free. They tried to tell me that it would be around $ 500 to replace the steering column. Luckily, my father is a mechanic who was able to talk them into doing some re-​wiring that cost $ 40 (although it meant I had to start my car with a screwdriver, but for that price I didn’t care).
I went back when I had an exhaust leak, and the Ashland location told me they weren’t equipped to fix that. They sent me to the location in Summit (63^rd and Harlem) and I went along with it because they said it would be a quick, simple procedure. It wasn’t. I got there at 9AM and left at 2PM, and I was very glad I brought a book with me because there is nothing to do in Summit.
A few days later, I realized they had forgotten to completely solder the exhaust pipe to the car, so every time it hit a bump in the road it would bang and clang. It took me a while to carve out enough time to go back to Summit for them to fix their mistake. They told me then that they had used the wrong size tailpipe for my car (an Oldsmobile, shouldn’t be that difficult) and I would need to come back again so they could switch it out. I said no thanks! All I can say is try to stay educated about what your car really needs, or you will get taken for a ride.
