I needed a gum graft due to the side effects of having had orthodontia 20 years ago that led to gum recession. I was expecting a terrible, painful experience but Dr Goodman is a total rock star. The only slight pain I felt was the numbing shots — I didn’t feel any pain from there on out! Even hours and days later the pain killers he prescribed did their magic and I was never in any pain or discomfort. Keep in mind he took tissue from the roof of my mouth, giving me a stitched up wound there. Still, no pain during procedure or after. His fee was also half what other guys wanted for a procedure to use AlloDerm donor tissue that doesn’t last. Highly recommended!

Dr. Goodman is excellent. My general dentist referred me to Dr. Goodman for a graft procedure. I was in the chair for my 11 am appointment at 11 am and was at my car at 12:05. He numbed me up for the procedure were I felt no pain. He called upstairs to the pharmacy for the medication making this process extremely easy. The minor soreness I’ve experienced post surgery was easily treated with anti inflammatory meds. Also to note is the high level of experience Dr. Goodman has and the high level of customer service from the entire team.

Doctor Goodman is a great dentist. Customer Service is everything to me in addition to being a good dentist. The wait time is good. He gets you in and out of the office. The office personnel are friendly and professional. After having not been to the dentist in a while my gums were smelling and bleeding. Ive visit the office afraid of rejection like I experience with other dentist negative treatment. He treated me very nice and acted as if it was nothing and gave me very deep cleaning and extracted a tooth. I didnt feel anything. He is very reasonable when it comes to price. Thank you Doctor Goodman for treating me like a human being and not like a diseased animal.

Dr. Goodman and his staff are amazing! Dr. Goodman inherited me from another perio who botched my procedure. He was kind enough to clean up after the other dentist and make sure I healed properly. I ended up going back to him for follow up procedures even though we moved out to the suburbs because I really trusted him. He is fast, efficient and has a very light touch. His office staff is also so accommodating. Since I no longer live in the city, I have been 30 minutes and 1 hour late for appointments and his staff fit me in both times and they were so nice about it. This is about as pleasant as you can get for otherwise unpleasant dental work.

Dr. Goodman is the BEST! My dentist referred me to Dr. Goodman as he suspected I needed a gum graft. Dr. Goodman’s friendly staff got me an appointment as soon as possible… that’s always half the battle! During my initial consultation I made fast friends with the office staff, assistants and Dr. Goodman. Everyone was so personable! Dr. Goodman examined my teeth and did confirm that I needed a gum graft. I scheduled the appointment for the following week and the day of I panicked! Many people had shared their horror stories about gum grafts (4 – 6 week recovery) so I called Dr. Goodman to discuss potentially pushing it back. He explained to me that this was a simple procedure he had been doing for years and he would have me as good as new within the week. A little hesitant, I went to the appointment and within 3 days I was pain free with nice, plump gums! I am so happy that I went through with the gum graft and, even better, I now know who the best periodontist in the city is! Thanks Dr. Goodman :)

Granted, I haven’t been to a dentist for awhile. After a introduction chat, he got down to business with the impressions and all. Created a plan regarding my gums and teeth meanwhile keeping a positive attitude.
The office staff including his assistants are very nice and attentive.
After couple very detail teeth cleaning. I’m on the road to a great smile again.
I would highly recommend Dr. Goodman.

When Dr Richard Welles retired many years ago I thought I would never find such a kind and skilled dentist again. Guess what — I found him!
I went to Dr Goodman today and ‘was worried about a weird problem I’m having with a tooth. No need to fear, My consultation with him was «5 star» all the way.
I might not be seeing him in the future as I’m headed to the endodontist now but I would be happy to be his patient.
His office manager was welcoming and totally delightful.

My dentist sent me to Dr. Goodman for an osseous flap procedure on my gums on the left and right lower quadrants. I was nervous, but Dr. Goodman told me that after he numbed me, the procedure would be painless, and he was absolutely correct. I felt the shot fire up my nerves on the left side for about 30 seconds, but after that there was no pain. I went home, took an ibuprofen, and waited for the pain to begin as the numbness wore off. But no pain! Sure, there was soreness from having someone work on my mouth, but nothing I could actually describe as pain. That was several months ago, and my dentist tells me now that my gum tissue looks nice and healthy.
I went back for the second side to be done, and told him I had been worrying about that 30 seconds of pain when the nerves had reacted to the anesthetic. So he gave me the anesthetic in a few smaller shots, and I had none of the nerve reaction that I had felt the first time. Then, liked the first time, he proceeded with making an incision in my gums, cleaning out the area and preparing the bone for him to reattach the gum tissue. And again, no pain! Less than an hour.
I could not recommend anyone more highly than Dr. Goodman. True to his word about what to expect, good listener, concerned for his patient, and nice to talk with. Go to him if he does the procedure that you need!

Dr. Goodman is the best among the best. Need I say more?! Right away his first impression was lasting. He is not here to waste your time or money. He saw me and said «Robert, I can tell you had a tongue ring. That’s your problem. I am going to fix this.» Woah! Blew me away without me even telling him! He is an expert and amazing at what he does. He will be operating on me shortly and I have confidence. A must see Periodontist.

I have been seeing Dr Goodman (Chuck) since 1987. He is by far the best dentist I have ever seen. He has done amazing things for me to treat my gum disease and help me keep my teeth. I see him and his hygienist four times a year for cleaning and exams. He is the best and his staff is great. I haven’t had a procedure in years due to the effectiveness of the procedures he previously performed. I consider him a friend and would recommend him to anyone with gum problems.

Dr. Goodman is a superstar. I had an implant done to replace a baby tooth and he was just wonderful throughout. The lab who did my final replacement tooth said they had never seen such a well-​placed implant. He knew the right amount of pain medication that I would need for each procedure (they are not the same) and always kept me comfortable. In addition to being skilled he has a wonderful personality — always friendly and positive. It’s a pleasure to go see him — aside from the fact that nobody likes to go have their mouth worked on!

I had a gum graft by Dr. Goodman, for something unwanted and horrible it was a wonderful experience. The actual procedure was not in any way as I expected, since I was awake for the entire process I was quite nervous. Dr. Goodman and his staff are wonderful at knowing how to keep you relaxed through the entire process. They know what they are doing, the entire staff is helpful. (The worst part is the healing process, however the instructions and follow up visits were very helpful.)

I want to jump on the bandwagon so to speak and also mirror what others have been saying. I had a gum graft last saturday and he did an excellent job. His staff is wonderful, and he made an unpleasant experience like dental surgery ok. One thing I really appreciated when I sat down to have the surgery was that he reassured me (even though I didn’t say anything) that everything will be ok and that he knew I was a bit apprehensive. Realistically when you are having surgery of any kind you don’t really know what you are getting in for, but it is nice to have a doctor acknowledge that. Anyway if you need to have dental surgery, I highly recommend this doctor.

Good work, but be careful. They performed a procedure that they didn’t get insurance authorization for, so when my insurance wouldn’t pay, I got stuck with the bill, even tho I didn’t know it was being done.

I’ve just had a gum graft and, as much as it is not the most pleasant experience, it really went as well as it could have. i picked this doctor because of all the good reviews on Unilocal and it did not disappoint.
The whole experience was very pleasant, from the very kind and attentive receptionist to the explanation on everything, I could tell I was in good hands.
The procedure went pretty smoothly, the doctor checking on me and explaining what was going on as it went.
I had a little incident 5 days after, on a saturday (I accidentally scratched off 2 stitches) and was able to call Dr. Goodman on his cell. He responded very kindly, took the time to reassure me.
It is so nice to have such a good experience!

I do not regularly Unilocal bad reviews but I am extremely disappointed and upset with the way this doctor’s office has conducted their business and I feel victimized in this situation.
I needed a gum grafting surgery, as I was told by my dentist Dr. Lamb, who referred me to Charles H. Goodman in Lakeview. So in January, I came in to meet with him. Dr. Goodman is a nice and friendly man and made me feel very comfortable about the upcoming procedure. I was at the time preparing to leave for a 2 month trip out of the country and recommended that I wait until I return from my trip to do the surgery.
I scheduled an appointment for early March, which was solid 2 months after my initial appointment. The doctor’s office had all my information on file, including all my insurance information as well as my father’s because I am on his insurance. I also disclosed that I was a student at DePaul and work at a bar.
The day of my surgery, I called my father and he asked me if there was a co-​pay or anything I was going to have to pay upfront. I told him that I figured that since January up to this point the doctor’s office would have contacted me to tell me something like that. But no, I had to call an hour before my surgery and ask, which then I was told I had to pay $ 171.60. I was a little thrown off because I honestly don’t have money like that lying around. And I thought that was a lot for me to pay out of my pocket. I also realized that they never talked to me about pricing or how much this was going to cost or walked me through payment options or if I even wanted to get the surgery done because it was going to cost this much and my insurance was going to only cover a certain amount. But whatever, I needed the procedure done, so I asked if I could pay it next time because I did not have it on me that day and they said yes.
After the surgery, they scheduled my post-​op a week or so from my surgery date. I did not go to my post-​op. I also did not schedule my post-​op for a few weeks. I finally came in on April 18, almost a month after my surgery. They checked everything out and it was fine. I went up to the counter and paid the $ 171.60 in cash, asked if they needed anything else, and they said nope, and I was on my way.
I then received a statement in the mail a few weeks ago saying I have an outstanding balance of $ 182.40. I was in complete shock. It also came with a huge pink sticker saying my account is 60 days past due. Which makes no sense since I have been in that doctor’s office within those 60 days that my balance is supposedly past due? I called the office last week in the morning and left a message, I did not get a call back. I called again and again but kept getting their machine. They did not contact me until the following week on Tuesday.
When I talked to the receptionist, I explained the situation and she told me that they only received a check from the insurance a week after my post-​op for $ 304.00. Which I completely understand but what I did not agree with or think was fair is that they have had my insurance information since January so why could they not find out how much my insurance was going to cover and how much in total I was going to have to pay within that whole time? I did not even have the procedure until March and did not even come in for a post-​op until mid-​April?
The woman was very condescending and made me feel like an idiot. She kept saying over and over that they did talk to me about pricing and that all this information was shared with me before and after the procedure. I told her that I am a broke college student that works at a bar and I would remember information like that, especially because my father made me call him before and after I went to see this doctor that we have never had any previous history with. Also, if I knew my insurance was only going to cover about 40% of the surgery I probably would not have done it. I got very upset with her on the phone and she did nothing to try to ease the situation.
My dentist, Dr. Lamb, always tells us how much things are going to cost and how much my insurance will or will not pay. So does my physician and my gynecologist.
I have never in my whole life have felt scammed by a doctor’s office. I will never be returning to this place and I will discourage people from coming here. I am also contacting my doctor who referred this place, which I’ve been going to for about 20 years and so has my father, what this office did and how they conduct business.
Withholding costs information from patients is a horrible and unethical way to conduct your business. I will be paying my balance because all of this is not worth it hurting my credit.

Dr. Goodman is the best! He is very professional and personable. The office staff is also very nice and helpful.
After a couple bad experiences with doctors in Chicago I was less than thrilled to learn that I needed a gum graft done. Dr. Goodman however restored my faith in Chicago doctors! The procedure went very well (Dr. Goodman is a saint with Novocaine shots, they don’t hurt at all because he takes his time). My healing so far has went off without a hitch.
I would recommend this dentist to anyone.

Dr. Goodman and his team are amazing! I recently had to have two gum grafts– so much fun! I was impressed with Dr. Goodman from the consultation. He detailed the grafts and what to expect withouth making me more nervous that I needed to be.
Upon the grafts, Dr. Goodman and his hygenist’s chair-​side manner were great. They took the time to tell me what they were going to do, what to expect to feel, etc. The procedure, from numbing to leaving the office took only 30 minutes! They took the time to explain what to expect over the next several days and were available to take calls between visits.
His team of hygenists is very friendly and helpful with the bills!
While I’d rather not have to go back for any dental procedures, I will definitely choose Dr. Goodman if I do!

Dr. Goodman and his staff are the best — I actually LOVE going there to get my bi-​annual cleaning in between my regular dentist. They are amazing and so friendly, and take care of the insurance billing, etc. etc.
Seriously, they don’t make you feel bad when you fail to floss — priceless.

When I learned that I would need a gum graft, I was less than pleased. Never having seen a periodondist before, I chose an «in-​network» periodontist who received good reviews on Unilocal.As my rating would indicate, Dr. Goodman was excellent. He explained the procedure during the initial interview (no charge) and perfomed the procedure on one tooth. Probably could have done more, but limited it to one. After insurance, the surgery was very cheap. Two follow-​up appointments (again, no charge) and my tooth is safe and sound. His staff (hi Sara!) is terrific and friendly. While I hope not to return, if I do need more work done in the future, I would not hesitate to return.
