Great local dive! Checked this place out last week. Folks hanging out there were all great peeps just chilling and talking. Reasonably priced drinks and beers. Clean place, great tunes, pool table, couple dart boards. Also has a back space that’s perfect for a more private get together. There’s a bunch of free parking on the side but when I got there it was full although I found a street spot in a few min. Recognized a bunch a people from the neighborhood. Good times here. Defiantly going back.

Stopped in and saw that the place was undergoing some renovations and looked really nice. Good to have a neighborhood bar wedged in between Evanston and Rogers Park, in close proximity to public transportation.(You better not DRINK&DRIVE around here!) Nice selection of craft beers, bartender was knowledgeable and got us served stat. Good pool table and lighting, definitely a classier joint than other’s in the neighborhood! We’ll be back!

I really wanted to like this place. I wanted to find a neighborhood bar that I could walk to. I went in one afternoon and was greeted with… no one. Four other patrons were sitting at the bar– two pair of elderlies that were obviously trying to make a love connection. I sat there for maybe 5 minutes and the bartender came from the back and asked what I wanted. A black russian. He looked at me like I was from Mars, then asked how to make it. I told him in 6 words and it was put in front of me, and I laid down a 10. He then instructed me that it «was a shot and beer joint,» and I got some change. Oh, too much trouble to put 2 liquors in the same glass in equal proportions, I guess. Then he waked away again, to the back room maybe. I would have liked another, but he was no where in sight.

I hate seeing a place with so much potential go to waste, but that is exactly what you have here. Awful selection of beer. The Beer on tap is not fresh or is being improperly kept. Bartender neglected to mention the same beer was on special in the can so I feel overcharged and uninformed, not cool. They have a map on the wall locating many of Americas craft brewery locations but have none of these beers in stock??? This place needs a Cicerone. The only saving grace, a nice pool table

American Ale House is your dive bar on steroids, it is massive and almost barn like in dimension. Quite dark and divey inside. Featuring a myriad of seating options and pool table. Plenty of television screens for catching sports(or for watching Rocky movie marathons). Jukebox music reflecting the tastes of the customers and our server. On a Saturday night the crowd was at best 10 locals in the 40’s to 50’s variety all clustered at one of the bar. Jeans and t-shirt crowd enjoying the Blackhawks game. The beer range is terrible with your standard dive bar draft options and with the pick of the bottles the last few bottles of Sierra Nevada we consumed. It is not too hard these days to at least carry a few local craft beers, how about some Goose Island or Half Acre? The three stars here are pretty much for our server Antwon(?). He was absolutely brilliant, made us feel welcome, kept our beers coming and provided great entertainment. It beats me how this place opens so late, 2:00am?

Stoners playing Wii golf. Blue-collar joes talking music. Very friendly bartender. Loses a star for mediocre beer selection. But I will be back.

American Ale House took over this older bar that had been in RP for many years. They’ve cleaned up the interior and the beer selection is great. Katie is the manager and she made us feel so welcome to be there. She is hoping to add Three Floyds on draft soon and also is considering doing some beer and cheese pairings one Sat. a month. They don’t have a kitchen, but you are allowed to bring your own food or order some to the bar. The crowd was very diverse and there was a DJ playing old school style soul. He was awesome – DJ Saladin. It’s a classic neighborhood bar, so if you live in Rogers Park or south Evanston I highly suggest you come on over. I’m very happy to have it within walking distance! It’s just what you’d want out of your neighborhood pub.
