This past April, Peoples Gas found a leak and shut off our gas service after my wife smelled gas. In order for the gas to be turned back on, the line needed to be repaired or capped and pressure tested to ensure that was the only leak. I had a flyer for Action Plumbing & Service. The flyer said«we have a truck in your neighborhood» and«60 minutes service.» I called Action at 11:30 a.m. and was told they had a truck available that would be at our house within the hour. At 1 p.m., there was no truck, so I called back. I was told they had just dispatched the truck and it would be there in an hour. They had no answer when I asked why the truck was just dispatched when I was told it would be there in one hour. At 2:30 p.m., no truck, so I called back. When I asked why the truck wasn’t there yet, I was told«things come up.» I was assured by Action there would be a truck in one hour. At 3:30 p.m., I started calling other plumbers at that point; unfortunately, it was too late in the day for any other companies to come. At 3:45 p.m., the truck finally arrived. Due to their tardiness, I had to take a half day off of work. The plumber said that the charge for capping the leaking gas line and pressure testing the lines was $ 375. I felt that the price was high. However, since it was 4 p.m., there weren’t any other plumbers available. My wife and I also have a newborn baby; we needed heat and hot water in the house. They capped the leaking line and quickly pressure tested all of the lines and were gone by 4:45 p.m. I later called to complain about the fee and the tardiness. I asked for the supervisor and told her that I felt the fee was excessive for the amount of work and time the plumber was at my house. She said it was a fair price and she had no response for my complaint about the truck arriving 3 hours after it was first promised. She said she would have the owner call me. I never heard from the owner.
