I called a few days ago to make an appointment. I mentioned to the man on the phone that I had purchased a groupon for a full color, cut and style. I am new to Charlotte and thought purchasing the groupon would be a good way to discover a great hair stylist that I could see every 6 weeks. When I arrived today at 1pm, the girl Jennifer came over to me and said she was running a bit late. She then asked me how was I going to pay. I told her I had a groupon and she said in a very snarky tone that she doesn’t do those anymore! I told her I had mentioned it when I booked my appointment and she said there was a mistake. She said she would be WILLING to do my hair anyways at her full prices. It seemed like she was looking down on me because I had a groupon. I didn’t feel comfortable and felt like her attitude around groupons was unprofessional. I told her no thank you and left. This was my only day off in 8 days. I am a very good tipper and would have been a regular client had I enjoyed the experience. Instead I was made to feel like a less than person because I bought a groupon. I left this salon feeling very upset. Groupons are great ways to establish good clientele and yes I know that sometimes they attract a lot of cheapskates but this was not the case with me. I had even asked when I called in for my appointment what the price originally would be to get this service and made sure that I had enough cash in my purse to tip 25% –30% of the original price. I am disgusted and I hope this salon owner speaks to her employees about how to treat people. Do the math, one groupon would have equaled a cut and color every 6 weeks plus tip. Hopefully I will find a stylist that appreciates and values new clients.

I have lived in Charlotte from the age of 5 up until last year. As you can imagine, I have had my fair share of bad experiences at hair salons in Charlotte(stylists who are late, ones that put too much oil in my hair, bad color jobs, etc.). While I lived in Charlotte, a coworker(whose hair always looks great) recommended that I give Sarah Chambers at 90 degrees salon a try. My first visit was for a blowout and a trim. Sarah was on time for my appointment and she was very professional. The results were amazing. My hair wasn’t too oily, wasn’t too dry, and she was extra cautious about how much heat she added to my hair. She was also great about helping me pick out the best hair products for my hair for at home use. Since my initial visit, I have had amazing color jobs, and lots of amazing blowouts. I recently moved 3 hours away from Charlotte, however, I still make a it a point to come to Charlotte a few times a year to sit in Sarah’s chair(yes, she is THAT good). As far as I’m concerned, this place is one of the best hair salons in Charlotte. If you want a great blowout, color, cut, or hair extensions in Charlotte, Sarah is your girl!

I guess I’m lucky because I’ve had very nice experiences here. My stylist is Maria, she’s awesome. I have very long, thick, unruly hair. But Maria is able to tame it every single time! She’s a magician. Everyone I’ve encountered there is very friendly. The salon itself is very clean and always looks like everything is in it’s proper place. The only thing that didn’t make this a full blown 5 star review is that I think the prices are a little bit steep and sometimes when I go in I do feel a little overwhelmed because it’s always slammed, it can be very loud and distracting.

Got a haircut here the other day. After I got home, showered, and was finally able to see how my haircut I was pissed. I made an appointment with the owner thinking that was a solid bet. However, that’s like thinking any NFL coach can go into a game and be the quarterback. When I looked in the mirror at my hair I could see she did a horrible job blending the sides in with the top. There were pieces up top noticeably longer than the sides. On my left side, there was a spot that she cut WAY too short and you can see my scalp. My sideburns weren’t even with each other and they weren’t cut straight by any means. The back of my neck was so bad, my coworkers noticed it the following day. It was cut way to high and was crooked. This was by far the worst haircut I’ve ever had and that’s saying a lot considering I used to go to places like Super Cuts. If my wife hadn’t gotten home when she did, I would have shaved my hair off. That’s how ridiculous this cut was. I think the next time I want an experience like this, I’ll pay a 5 year old chimp $ 10 and then toss the other $ 32 down the toilet. That’s right, this experience cost $ 42. The cut itself was $ 35 and then I gave a $ 7 tip. I tipped because I had no idea how bad it was until after the shower. So, needless to say, I will be finding another place to go.

Meredith Hoke has cut my hair for years, which is very unusual for me. I get tired of a hairstylist and move on. But not this time! I have the cutest little short haircut without looking frumpy. It’s pretty much wash and wear, too. I get several compliments on it every week. I knew she went to school at the Aveda Institute, then had lots more training(a couple of years, I think) at Carmen Carmen Academy. That training and her own artistic talent mean I get a NY haircut at Charlotte prices. And she’s so nice and so funny, getting a haircut is actually fun! Very professional and courteous.

Recently i have been looking for a new stylist and i finally found him. His name was Alex, i got the idea of going there from group-on and wasn’t to sure about going there but after walking in I was immediately greeted and welcomed in to 90 degree salon. The receptionist kindly greeted me and told me my stylist alex would be right with me. After waiting only about 5 minutes he greeted me with a smile and a hand shake. I told him my past stylist was doing my hair for about 4 years. He said not to worry cause he could make sure i was taken care of and happy before i left. He gave me some ideas and took control once i was done i felt like a new man. It was one of the best styles i had ever had. Once again thanks for the help and i will make sure to send everyone to you!

Hi– I wanted to give a heads up to folks out there looking for a colorist. I’ve worked with a variety of lovely, talented colorists across the country and unfortunately, my last experience w/Kristen at 90 Degree Salon was awful. :( I had been to her a couple of times prior and received decent service. The major bonus w/her is that she has great availability and flexibility in schedule which is quite helpful. I typically frequent Fresh Salon but my fav colorist was booked a month out and I needed color sooner than later for an event. I can now say that I have definitely learned my lesson about being impatient when it comes to hair and will NEVER make this expensive mistake again! lol I went in with my natural blonde hair with the goal to transition to dark brown w/subtle chestnut lowlights for the winter season. I have done this before and appreciate the process typically takes 2 visits to achieve the desired results in order to preserve the quality of my hair. I brought in a pic and explained what I wanted and she said she understood and could do that. However, I kid you not, I walked out of there w/atrocious dark purple hued hair and bright orange highlights. It was scary. As far as the details– she put the color on me in addition to the lowlights, and left me w/out coming back once… for 30 min. I appreciate color has to sit that long, but she left me in the back at the washing stations and never checked on me. Every other salon I’ve frequented I’ve sat in a comfortable chair typically near the dryers and was always asked if I needed anything given the extended amount of time I’d be «cooking» lol. I got zilch here! I stood up and saw that she had gone off and was working on another client’s hair. I respect her desire to work hard and multi-task but it’s standard to check on a client @ least 1x. She eventually came back, opened up my foils and went, «ok so we need to put a toner on to take down these lowlights.» Awkward! She put the toner in, rinsed everything out, and my hair looked heinous-it was dark with purple-ish hues with brazen orange lowlights-and this was AFTER the toner! Needless to say, she also ruined my earrings in the process. I expressly asked her if she would like me to remove them prior to starting the color, and she responded nope, it won’t be a problem. I should have used my better judgment and just removed them but I did not and they were speckled in brown dye. They weren’t expensive but I adored them. She took $ 10 off the bill. She blew out my hair and she always does that well. However, it came time for the bill and this was the kicker– Prior to our appt she said that she could give me a discounted rate as I’d been a customer of hers before and I explained that I wasn’t working at the moment. I never saw that discount. She charged $ 120 just for the botched color and that was w/the $ 10 off for the earrings… I was appalled. Needless to say, I accepted it as a hard lesson learned, paid and tipped, and left. I urge anyone going to this salon that I have seen some lovely work from other stylists and please don’t write this place off entirely, but I would be weary of Kristen. She did not honor her discount she promised, ruined my earrings, and ruined my hair. I had to go back to Fresh Salon(my original salon) and have color correction 2x… I’ve spent several hundred dollars to rectify her disaster w/out ruining my hair in the process. It’s all worked out in the end because I’ve found a new colorist Jennifer @ Fresh who is talented, has a flexible schedule, and actually cares about my hair!
