I love this BBQ joint .it’s right down the road from my house and they have the best breakfast tacos ever. they aren’t skimpy on portions either. its super affordable and if you go for lunch or dinner they have a different special for every day. so far every special has been delicious. just get there quick cause they always sell out. so if you are heading down 71 from Austin and need a smoky meat fix, this is the spot.

I have my favorite BBQ venues within the Austin city limits but sometimes it’s a pain to go to the bank to get a loan for lunch, then stand in a long line and whilst standing in line, there’s a board being updated to let everyone know what has run out and once you’re up near the order window, the guy in front of you is getting the last beef rib and then you have to wrestle him to the ground for it. This past Saturday I was cruising along Highway 71 in Cedar Creek when I spotted Benny’s Texas BBQ, an ol’ skool venue that I couldn’t pass up. I walked right up to the screened order window and order a 3-meat plate. BBQ pork ribs, sliced beef and sausage with sides of pinto beans and cold spicy corn and the warm BBQ sauce was served on the side as well. The portions were more than acceptable, quite tasty and filling. They don’t sell adult beverages with authority so I had to settle for a Dr Pepper. And I didn’t have to rob Peter to pay Paul for lunch. They have some very inviting breakfast items on the menu that’s served Monday thru Friday from 6 a.m. until 11 a.m. Since I’ll be based out this way for awhile, they will see me again on a frequent basis.

I love this place! I stop by on my way home as many times as I can for breakfast. It’s amazing how hard it is to find good breakfast tacos but lucky for me I found this place. The hot sauce they give you for the breakfast compliments the tacos perfectly. I haven’t been able to try the BBQ yet but if it’s anywhere near as good as the tacos, then you won’t be disappointed. Also, they recently added Sausage and Chicken Gumbo that I highly recommend especially with the cooler weather coming in. Thank you Benny’s BBQ for the great food and excellent customer service! What’s up Unilocal Fam. This is a review I must say is predominately based on the breakfast tacos. I moved to Bastrop in 2013 so the review is based off May of that year. I think I was hitting this little dive weekly. Benny’s is a true stop and get Tx relic that harkens back to the days when you got roadside food… stop, hop out and pig out. You can smell the smoke from the«real wood» he uses on his pits. Benny himself is friendly enough but has a no nonsense attitude from my interactions with him. He made small talk with me and served me good, huge breakfast tacos… I mean that’s all I could ask for right. Wrong if I recall after having seen me for the third time in as many days I believe he gave me a free taco. I love the sausage tacos because they remind me of summer sausage a little place in my hometown makes. My Wife is all about his brisket taco and truthfully I can do both. I had to pull back from his place… not due to anything he did but because my doctor said so. His tacos are hearty and very fulfilling and not for the faint of heart. I’m telling you now you eat two and your going to need a confessional booth. I won’t lie I’ve done that twice and was no good the rest of my work say. NO problem come dinner I was hungry again because lunch is an after thought when you eat 2 of those monsters. One cool thing is that Benny accepts credit cards which is convenient for non cash carriers. If you’re on 71 west bound and pass the dollar star be sure to start looking for Benny’s place on that side of the hwy. Go support the man and do your stomach a favor with a smoked and rich tasting meat taco!

Chopped beef and spicy cold corn were great. They give you a huge cup for iced tea which is nice in the heat.

This is my favorite place in the Bastrop area to get breakfast tacos from. Their BBQ is awesome, I can call ahead of time and order my food and pick it up, or order there and I don’t wait long at all.

It is really hard to see, but there is a turn lane that’s helpful. Nice outside area with fans, we brought our dog. Food came out fast, I got the chopped beef sandwich and thought it was really good. Large portions, but the sides were just ok.

OK; It’s a hard-to-see«shack» if you’re speeding west on 71, but slam on those brakes(with care) and get ready for some of the best BBQ around. Really! I have tried salt Lick, Black’s, County line etc, and I like the food at this place better. I have tried the chicken, pork and beef ribs, turkey legs, and brisket. All but the brisket was top-notch … but then again; I never have liked any brisket much. But«seriously folks», If this place is open when I’m in the area; Im gonna stop. Great service and wonderful friendly genuine folks who stayed open for me to pick up my order when traffic threw a wrench in the works. Prices are good too! Only thing; They need to put up a little shade screen. The outdoor seating and the fans are fine, … but that late afternoon Texas sun gets you in summer.

Best bacon, egg and cheese breakfast taco ever! Don’t skip the green sauce, it’s the bomb. Haven’t tried anything else here yet but the breakfast tacos are not to be missed!

I worry i’m to negative but I think i’m just to trusting of Unilocal reviews, Smelled like a great bbq joint but the sauce was really bad… tasted like salted ketchup and the brisket was overcooked and very dry and not cut against the grain… had to spit it out. it’s really not good

Amazing little family owned bbq joint. Food was fresh and on point. Chopped beef was tender and just the right amount of sauce. Even my picky 1 ½ yr old ate most of her sandwich. Recommend stopping by just get there early. They close when they sell out.

Visited this morning for breakfast and ordered two breakfast tacos: brisket and potato/egg. The cook started making the eggs when I ordered and the place smelled delicious. The taco was great in that every inch of the tortilla was covered in delicious substance. I had to hold it with my hand wide open so one taco per person is ample! The cooked-right-in-front-of-you eggs picked up the flavors of the potatoes which were nice and soft. Perfection! The salsa is hot(spicy) and flavorful. The brisket taco was packed with meat and topped with a little pico. This isn’t a normal breakfast taco offering so I’d choose something different next time. We just wanted to try their brisket. The total for the two tacos overflowing was less than $ 6.00!

I’m addicted to Benny’s legs. It’s true… The cowboy style turkey legs are smoked long and fresh, served swimming au jus with bell peppers, jalapeños, and onions. Give me a few napkins and leave me alone with my meat! The service can’t be better. Get your own legs. Leave me alone for a few more minutes. This experience is near sacred. Mmmmmmmmmm

I wish I could say I’ve been here for the BBQ, but I haven’t. I’ve only had the Big Ben and that’s because a coworker brings them in to the office. That said — the Big Ben is absolutely, ridiculously awesome. It competes with the Don Juan at Juan in a Million, and the race is a dead heat. Eggs, potato, beans, chunks of link sausage, and a huge strip of bacon served with a jalepeno salsa(that’s okay, not great) and an extra tortilla. You won’t need much for lunch after you have this. One of these days I’ll drop by for the BBQ, because if it’s anything like this taco, it’s got to be great. Benny’s is on the westbound side of 71.
